College Football MTSU vs. Jacksonville State

welcome to Jacksonville Alabama a hidden gym a few miles from the border of Georgia and home to the Gamecock of Jacksonville State where these fans are fired up for this showdown about to play out on verg snowfield and this one two teams from Conference USA squaring off in a weekday class to set the table for the weekend ahead the kickoff team out there getting set from a couple of yards deep he'll bring it out rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 the Gamecock offense will have plenty of work to do after that return was bottled up and here comes the big fella a staple of this aerial attack Jesse and he's a guy that can line up all over the field David there's matchups out there waiting to be taken advantage of yeah and it's so nice to be able to do that it makes it easy to play quarterback when you can feature a guy like this that's fast big and strong well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward nyd pickup on first down and now they can take a shot on second and short hand off from the gun and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more and he was loose and out the gate and doesn't go down until he gets to the 48 yd line the Gamecock headed quickly to the line for the off [Applause] HS and fires complete I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game Power football with the Run tackled but he has a first down I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early you know the beautiful thing about being a quarterback is you can throw a little drag route and they can take it 16 when you got fast Playmakers in the outside that you can get the ball in their hands really quickly great things can happen Oney passes can turn into 60 it's beautiful be quarterback they knock him down at the 21 it's a pick up of five yds on the play and enough for a first down on the ground it's Wiggins they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one they're trying to run the ball on first down guys but just nothing doing up front their offensive line got blown up on that play there was nowhere for that guy to go out of the gun they'll run it inside nice gain of six leaving them with third and four gain of seven and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his pads wants to throw it's Turner can't hang on to the ball he had it right in his chest and it'll be fourth down and they'll have to settle for a field goal [Applause] try absolutely perfect and with that they break the seal on the scoring it's three nothing after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away well this team knew coming into tonight's game they had to get momentum early playing at home they want to get the crowd into it so you get a beautiful drive here to start this thing you would have liked to cap it off with a touchdown but listen you set yourself up for a field goal did not get through the uprights you've got the lead everything right now looking good the blue Raiders offense will go to work for the first time today as we take a look at our impact players this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up the these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football game finds that creas and he's got four out to the 29 I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up for a good third down he'll have enough to move the chains it's first down at the 38 and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yardage well you're making a positive out of a negative and that time quarterback nice job buying time he's trying to throw the football downfield nothing there so instead of throwing it away getting the complete just get what you can get and make this next down more manageable here comes the offense on second [Applause] down looking for a man it's battiato looking to the big tight end just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab man I I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the receiver and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop they've moved to the 16 it's first and [Applause] 10 they'll try to get the edge with the toss play here and he'll step into the end zone touchdown Middle Tennessee the offense goes as go so really no surprise on the opening drive they keep feeding him the football he showed you all of his ability on that TD and the extra point is good and it's a four-point lead lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive and he's coming out of the end zone not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on own and to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they'd love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here D yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points he's one out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down you know they Pride themselves on being physical at the point of attack dominating at the line of scrimmage nice job there picking up the first down quick release on the RPO he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down the quick passing game does several things one it doesn't let the pass rush get you those great defensive linemen the ball's coming out so fast they can't get there and then what else it gets me ahead of the sticks I don't have to worry about getting in Long yardage and predictable situations they make the Stop and this running game moves to change as they get the first down and the Gamecocks have their offense in high gear Ed the play fake now to throw b a little time lets it Go quickly to the tight end and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 the gamec in the hurry up well it's a nice job to of the quarterback after the play fake there getting his eyes down the field he had to get that to his tight end quickly knowing he wasn't going to have a lot of space to run with after the catch small game I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this to the air it's Turner throws toward the end zone and it's picked off and the senior just snatched the ball out of the air and gave it back to his offense QB's got to pick and choose their spots when they want to be really aggressive and try to fit balls in tight Windows great job by the DB making a big play getting the ball back to its offense and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and [Music] three leaves it with the back defense fills those gaps he's got one to the 28 and the running back getting much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and limiting his carries nothing but green ahead ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds and first for the how about these two running game so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter stats they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first [Applause] down Ed the play fake now to throw they're bringing heat strong pass rush gets to the quarterback and they get him at the 46 the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned back and it'll be incomp complete this defense is physical and pass deep this is a third and long looking to throw and he needs a chunk play stands in and takes the hit and that pass picked off looking for more room he's done the 40 running inside the 20 and he will roll into the end zone touchdown game cop the number one job in the F quarterback was making him feel uncomfortable physically hitting him nice job by the defense the pressure the hit on the quarterback forces the int and then oi as soon as you catch that thing everybody start blocking get to the near sideline take that thing back to the house on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 let's see what the blue Raider offense can get going this possession will be a test after squandering that long drive throwing a pick six Jess you're right ree well I think this is really dependent too on the leaders in this huddle right now to step up and help this offense get back on Pace here on this drive yeah and this defense is froing at the mou they're excited they're jacked up they just made a big play they got all the momentum so they're ready to hunt dropping back it's battiato he makes a catch major gaps in that defense and he got loose and they finally knock him down at the 41 the offense set for a first down play oh he's looking to throw feeling some heat it'll thr incomplete a little creativity on first down but it doesn't work it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again trying play action finds his man and it's Stewart and he's running in the open and he'll run it into the end zone touchdown NTSU each and every week I think this coaching staff does such a good job of scheming ways to get this guy the football in the passing game and defenses can't cover him with that last catch this is now his 10th receiving touchdown on the season he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 Jacksonville State has it back in the game Cox will go to work boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed them yeah and those mistakes are going to happen you're going to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I did in the first part of that drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right on this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the and that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the rad and the quarterback caught up two and sacked at the 12 awesome job by the defense not only getting the fast quarterback on the ground but understanding what he wants to do he can take off I got to make sure I got good Pursuit angles and I got to make sure I build rails I can't let him outside I got to keep it in the pocket he tries to get outside they get the sack and get the huge loss on that play well that time on Third and long they just took what the defense gave him nothing down the field they were hoping maybe he could make somebody Miss after the catch wasn't able to do it so now it sets up fourth and the Gamecock will bring the punt team onto the field and the returner goes down the middle Tennessee offense will go back to work Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing po yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place Pockets going to take a shot and that's going to be incomplete going for broke on second down but third Downs coming up DB does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away passing complete Ball's up to 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long and he intercepts it got some room to run and they'll close in on him after for a good return on the interception this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision [Music] making guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on o after punting the last time they had it they ought to be set up for a much better result with this drive this offense better be licking their chops you're not going to start with better field position than this all game did you ain't lying forget about the last possession of what we did you're already in scoring position take care of that football make sure you get some KS they're down to the 20 first and 10 they'll give it to him again he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover pick up the first looking downfield it's Turner throws to the wide out he got and he's into the end zone touchdown game one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the Patch if this quarterback gets through his progression David HS you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play good job by the coverage unit to stop the Return Man first down here for the offense wide receiver shows motion L to throw on first down off the play fake and the quarterback is knocked down back at the Third often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on to the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass Pro a bit longer against this athletic front seven on defense it's going to be tough third not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their [Applause] 20 looking downfield and he needs a bunch going deep deep and trying to put points on the board on third down now they're staring at Fourth Down the punt team makes its way onto the field three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball this guy is a daring part return man he's not going to settle for the fair catch a solid return gets a little bit of ground for the offense Jacksonville State has it back in the game Cox will will go to work boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right there fires to the wide out and that's going to fall the ground incomplete that was a physical match up there third down coming they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on Third and long trying to have a big completion here they stripped it out the D Scoops it up and everybody reverses field and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its o here's this offense with a fresh set of downs trying to find his man on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again looking to pass it's battiato makes the grab nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down you know it's a nice throw by the QB there when you're throwing to running backs you got to make it easy so you want to put it right on their body make the catch simple and let them go to work like they did just there getting that first trying to get to him he's got an open [Applause] man e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e way and they're on the move all the way to the 44 yeah this defense is going to have to have a plan for this tight end especially when he lines up in the slot because there's a lot of different routes he can run and because of his size and his wing span he's very very difficult to cover just a short pass to the tight end and this defense has its work cut out to get this dude on the ground he was shedding serious tackles on his way to picking up the first offense picking up steam first and 10 from the 31 looking to throw it again now he's going to Glide away from pressure couldn't find anybody to throw to he'll just toss it away it'll be second down and that goes down as incompletion but that's a smart play and the QB coach and the OC would be very happy with the decision of the quarterback he got outside the pocket he obviously so he's outside The Tackle Box as he knew he could throw it away as long as he got it past the line of scrimmage nothing there nothing open Live to fight another down it's complete and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end well this defense is being challenged in this secondary in particular and I know a DB made the tackle there but we're only in the second quarter and already this quarterback has over 200 yds passing it's first down from the 11 [Applause] they'll run it from the gun the carrier is the running he's tackled at the 9 yd line Second down coming up going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone they'll go right back to the Run that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage and he's picked off again his night vision hasn't been up to speed his third interception and they made the play to stop the scoring opportunity just before the end of the half linebackers have tough job right their first responsibility is to stuff the run but you can see he does a really good job seeing pass getting back into his cover two drop breaking on the football and making the [Music] [Applause] interception just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime looking for a crease it's Wiggins and the defense snows him under after a very short game that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the half time update the gamec will boot it away to start the second half on the run from inside his own five he gets a block got a little room wide open and it's a foot race he will score touchdown blue Raiders we just went in the half Drew up all these adjustments and things we got to do different lead to take advantage how about the Special Teams coming out to start the second half and setting the tone taking the kick all the way back for six you don't draw it up any better than that getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point is good and it's a fourpoint lead so a dynamite play there 99 yd he took it back for the touchdown and he's going to bring it out of the end zone good job by the coverage unit to put a stop to that return guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on own this drive will open from the 15 trying to set the tone with the Run nudges ahead for one out to the 16 he at the 16 yd L brings up second down didn't get much on first down it's second and nine on the option he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three I'll tell you this is a hard defense to run against if you're going to go sideline to sideline because of that guy's speed at linebacker he can get all the way to the perimeter chase the quarterback down on the option and make the tackle behind the line of scrimmage impressive looking downfield it's Turner he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline and they can't hook up on the big play and that brings up a fourth down every defense in the country talks about getting offenses in predictable third and long situations where I can bring on more speedsters and I know the pass is coming so I can have more success and the Gamecock will punt this one away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away on the return it's Kelly makes a move really explosive when he gets his hands on the ball and he found a couple of crevices and made a nice game before being run out of bounds let's see what the blue Raider offense can get going that last Drive was promising for a but you just can't mess it up at the end with the pick Jesse no you got to be able to finish drives especially in this game if you're going to win in David they've got to be able to eliminate the mdle mistakes yeah and I don't think you get conservative or play it safe you can trust your guy I think you put the ball right back in his hands and let him do his thing coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that mind as well KCK with him they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one man what a spectacular play by that defensive end to come up with the tackle there and you see those guys get off the football so fast most of these guys are 250 to 275 pounds but they get off the ball fast low and the offensive line they have no chance to stop those guys as quick and as fast as they are and on fourth down here comes the field goal unit he's got it showing off that big big leg from 47 yds out so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather he'll return it and now the head backs it Loose it's recovered by the kicking team and they'll steal a possession the Middle Tennessee offense will go back to work they've got the lead here last time they sett him for a field goal but David got to find that balance between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got to take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then exploring he's got his man they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker third down verions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off looking to throw it's FTI got takes it to the house touchdown Middle Tennessee mlee the offense flexes its muscle a bit and widens the Gap take a little exhale you know you did your job you got points now you put your defense in position where hey go out and get another stop we're in great shape so the offense definitely taking care of their business 17 and he'll just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 Jacksonville State has it back and the Gamecock will go to work this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so Palmer no need to panic I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely different he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what call so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty line getting set on second [Applause] down they'll run it out of the shotgun they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks really nice play call there on second and long by the offensive coordinator he was able to get a lot of that yardage back by running the football and now of course it sets up a third and manageable situation he L it high and deep down the left side you see it in football all the time right I get a match up on the outside you want to try to play Man coverage I'm going to let my wide receiver try to go up make a play a lot of times the wide receiver wins not this time running it back it's Kelly he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot all right guys so here's the offense back on the field Again David they'd love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they executed and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well and I'd love to see that here on the next drive too just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their gears they'll give it to the back they'll give him a couple that leaves him with third and eight the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical snagged in the middle it's Stewart he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down and now a fresh set of downs for this [Applause] offense out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back and the Freshman does a great job using his technique in getting the man on the ground picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down from the gun they'll give it on the inside crosses the 30 he got away and he'll take it in they couldn't get him on the ground touchdown Middle Tennessee they've extended the lead and taken control here in week N I am a great play caller when I can hand it to guys like that and he can go that far to the house create big plays showed you a little bit of vision showed you a little bit of burners when kicked it in gear and got the long touchdown run and he's going to bring it out I imagine he's going to get an near full on the sideline after bringing it out of the end zone and being knocked down at the 11 guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on home trailing by three touchdowns if you're going to get back in it David the time to start is right now got to start now defense giving up points on that last possession again the offense is going to have to score and Jesse probably score pretty quick yeah you got to go Tempo you're going to have to try to fit in as many plays as you can throughout the rest of this game but I think more than that you got to eliminate the negative plays no more penalties and no more turnovers from the gun the ground game B just enough Running Room he picks up four to the 15 y third down and this offense is already in a world of trouble they can really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores scanning the field it's Turner going to try to pop one on the screen and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage the Gamecock will send out the punt unit not able to pop the big ter and they've got the ball back and ready to go with the fresh possession let's see what the blue Raider offense can get going this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they've wanted to do build the lead now Palmer is a different animal now you got to protect it you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now on the same page that one did not go well tackled in the back field for a loss of six he's looking to throw unloads to the white out complete to the right big big gain on that one as he steps out of bounds with a first down well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they got enough space touchdown MTSU and the Ping has started well let's count them up one two three three is the magic number for touchdowns yeah it's as easy as ABC goodness gracious he's been getting whatever he wants whenever he wants however he wants I might want to change something up or maybe focus on that guy that's getting the foot be a Touchback the ball will come out to the yd line here comes the offense on first [Applause] down he's looking to throw it grabbed in the middle it's brown and they'll move the change with the first down that might be it for the third quarter [Applause] that's at end of the quarter guys it's Middle Tennessee on top let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping up it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line back to pass it's Turner takes his shot and you'd like to think this sophomore wouldn't make a habit of trying to force passes into double coverage like that after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 we he's looking to throw makes the grab over the middle they make the stop not a whole lot of ground picked up there and they'll have work to do to get the first down they've got some work to do on this third and long from the 40 he'll set up to throw and it's incomplete on third down got to give this defense credit guys because all game long they have forced their opponent to be one-dimensional they haven't allowed anything to happen in the passing game as a result we're here in the fourth quarter they barely allowed over 100 yards passing and it's incomplete a missed opportunity for the offense listen with the aggressiveness of offenses and Taking Chances a lot of times it's going to put your defense in a hole and this defense is going to have to come through in the clutch right here because you're trailing they can't get more scores they got to get a stop on this possession and the offense is going to have to do better than they just did quarterback making adjustments with his receivers didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they're trying to crease them off the left tackle they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one it's going to be tough sleding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game but the defense knows the runs coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did interesting to see what the offense does on this next one so they're going to send out the field goal unit to try a long one this kick would be hard enough straight on 57 yds he's also on the left hatch oh that one will leave a mark no good because no game is perfect something has to go wrong so the coach will have something to gripe about it thing Jacksonville State has it back in the game Co will go to work grabbed behind the line it's Rudolph and make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down and here comes the offense on second [Applause] down he's looking to throw fires into traffic intercepted not a lot of room on the return but he'd already got the most important thing the ball and they have it at the 46 offense set on first down they'll run it they want to take their time here and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 out of the gun the running back has it really nice stop there from this senior leader a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass he's right on Target and a nice grab there big pick up down to the 35 yd line line defense is about feeling out the offense and what they like to do what are they going to do in third and short third and medium third and long so far the offense is winning defense is going to need to make some adjustments we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away of Victory running back searching for a hole he had all kinds of company as soon as he got and he had to fight his way back just to get to the line of scrimmage got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 the give from the gun and they pick up just one it'll be third and nine and I'm a fan of this man run the football keep the clock we got the lead this offense has put together a nice day man like just balance Rhythm timing play calling everything is worked that's why theyve built this lead they've had a great day today now on fourth down here comes the field goal team looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt never a doubt one and they just tack on a little more to this gargantuan lead the last thing you want to do here is give up a big return pin them back and then the defense can just stop them from scoring a touchdown and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on own not a lot to feel great about in this one Jesse but I'm sure they'll try to seek out some positive this might be an opportunity to we to go back they watch this game just find the plays and the schemes that were working weren't a lot obviously David but maybe an opportunity for the coaching staff to condense The Playbook a little B I was going to say there's not a lot of good to go back to that' be a quick film session because there was more negatives than positives but when you look at this this week youve got a week to figure it out figure out what your offense is going to be moving
