Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees | MLB The Show 24 Game 144

[Music] and welcome in everybody glad you're with us a great night for baseball ahead on the show it's the Kansas City Royals going up against the New York Yankees first pitch coming at you right after the break so just about set now and starting this one Carlos rhon and singi that may be his name but the strikeout is his game well Bo I can tell you've been working on that one but yes you are right this guy strike out for nine over 11 I mean that's just getting it done there are a lot of strikeouts in that other line up and when you look at what he's able to do man it's going to be a fun one to watch today the o1 fast ball for a strike on the ground out to short throw on to Rizzo one up one down and here now the lineup for the Royals one thing these guys do very well is stay out of the double play they've hit into the fewest of any team in the league Chris well boo we don't see situational hitting as that art as much as we used to because guys are slugging the ball they're hitting it over the fence but when you see a team that has the ability to shorten up hit behind Runners and go first to third or first to home man that just adds to the element of what you're able to do this one swung on and hit well way back there and C the warning track one of my favorite stats all time 1997 the Hall of Famer Craig viio played in all 162 games for the Astros on astro turf and he never hit into a double play gets under it and Pops it up Torres sizes this one up brings it in for the third out Royals bats are quiet there and now the Yankees will see what they can do no score this is Yankees baseball on the show NYC back for more from the Bronx and on the mount in this one Seth Lugo what do you have on him well that whip is just below the league average and that's a good thing in this case not allowing too many base runners so most days he's going to go out there and and put his team in a position to win and I expect to see that from him in this one today now it's the second Torres right through there for a [Applause] strike fall off foul [Applause] here comes a pitch and that one is lifted in the air flashes the leather on the running catch one away and time now to check out the New York Yankees lineup and a big factor for them in recent games Austin Wells and boo you know he's happy seeing a righty out there on the mound in this one I mean over 300 against righties on the year so definitely you expect him to try to tack on a few more points of batting average with a couple of hits should be a good matchup for him in this one Juan sto in the box with one away as he takes ball one one out base is empty [Applause] next offering upstairs when you get ahead in the count there's no doubt that the success rate goes up and that's what he's been doing it's made a big impact for him in recent games and now to one good pitch to hit on a te up in the zone I think he was looking for something else right there [Applause] the two one and another [Applause] ball on the ground right side gets it to first they get the out on sto batting third The desicated Hitter Aon two outs B is empty Here Comes Aaron judge singing when the year's over he'll have a new career high for RB's in a [Applause] season first pitch doesn't find the zone two out Bas is [Applause] empty next offering is in for a [Applause] strike judge rips that one is Bel settles underneath it caral it and that's the inning scoreless after [Applause] one new inning getting started head to the pl for Kansas City Nelson Velasquez Vasquez the wine of the pitch Rhone multitime Allstar he features a forseen fast b a slider a curve and he Works in a change up swing in a Miss nice change up Gary Simmons are played onire today sort of has a reputation as a pitcher umpire yeah a little bit of a wider Zone than most I'd say and a wide Zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter cuz you have to start expanding what you're looking for covering both sides and with the stuff pitchers have today you're just not going to have a lot of success that's a really good take right there slider down and in very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with battling here as he fouls it [Applause] away the one two swings and misses hold the string and the change up definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes it pretty textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the Box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage and that one fouled off and the 01 right side hard hit Torres fires over to first two up two down batting the second B Michael M and now m [Applause] Massie and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter looks like a really good fast ball today you can hear that catcher mitt popping looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one and that's in for a strike [Applause] swing and a miss and he got him and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three nothing doing for the Royals we'll go to the bottom of the second no score back now in the bronos here's the catcher Austin Wells C Austin [Applause] and here it comes highfly ball out at the left center field Melendez going after it he's got it and there's one down the third B ja J Jazz Chisum Jr now and singy we already know he's going to finish the season with a new career high in home runs first pitch just misses I think it's very important to establish the inside part of the plate early sets the tone for the rest of the game nothing nothing here in the bottom of the [Applause] second that catches the outside corner and the count one and [Applause] one one down base is empty fouled off he was [Applause] late spoils a two- strike pitch and he'll see [Music] [Applause] another kicks and fires that one ripped and it's off the wall throws to Second and that's a double so close to blasting that one out of here the other way but that's very tough to do when you take on the out Gap like that beautiful swing though let the ball get a little deep and drove it to the opposite field runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game next to hit Jason Dominguez inside almost got [Applause] him and a pitch wouldn't chase that time chisen the runner at second with one [Applause] away Lugo checks the runner and he's back in on a dive and it's second that one ripped left field and it's off the way R scores easily and it's one nothing and into second with away that's a double well when you fall behind in the cow you got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there and it's second with one away here's the veteran first basem Anthony Rizzo another solid power season and that one p foul one run acrossing the frame so far you're in game one of this three game set Runner takes off pitch in for a strike and that's a stolen base not even close when a guys got that kind of lead at second base somebody's got to call timeout pitch got to step off the catcher got to ask the Y for time or something you can't let him get out that far when you don't have a good throw behind the plate he's going to Ste third almost standing up that's a really good job of being aggressive by the base runner hard hit left side throws across the diamond there for the out runner scores from third so important to really lock in on it at bat like this it seems easy with the infield back but You' got to make sure you put the ball in Fr put it on the ground that and now the short stop Oswaldo Cabrero definitely scuffling at the dish lately just one hit in his last five games that one way outside ball one two runs across in the inning bottom half of inning number two fast ball for a strike [Music] [Applause] swung on B that's back there that's long gone home run number 10 of the year and they add to the lead it's three nothing maybe he's starting to break out of this mini slum that's the type of swing that makes you think good things are coming his way lightning fast hands to be able to hit that velocity fast ball on the inside part of the plate in my experience when you're looking out over the plate allowing the ball to travel it's pure reaction to hit a pitch and not location that's a tremendous swing here's Alex Verdugo Homer in the ball game yesterday afternoon and there's the strike [Applause] [Music] righty delivers that one misses and that's ball one back door breaking ball just missed right there and boy umpire didn't give him the call I bet you if he throws it again hitter knows he's going to have to swing it there's a hill so the two out Knock extends the inning and sends them back to the top of the order could have timed it up any better than that we'll often hear the phrase short long and that's a great example it right there got the Barrel in the H Zone early squared it up with the well time swing and came away with a beautiful Line Drive in center field here's glamer Torres swinging a miss going one [Music] [Applause] righty to the plate now Fly ball to Right Center squeezes it and that's the third out three runs for him here and they move ahead we played two full Yankees three and the Royals nothing all set for the start of the inning now it's going to be MJ Melendez and rodone back to work swing in a Miss as he was late that time well the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there have a real quick inning get those guys back into the Dugout so those bats can stay hot Odon ready here comes swings through it for the K some high chees for strike three with that kind of velocity an elevated fast ball even if it's still in the strike zone can be tough for hitters to get on top of that one to First and he handles it himself for the outting the first two outs Bas is empty Mike braso steps in for the Royals he's done a great job making contact recently hits in each of the last six games first offering and it just misses good spot there but didn't get the strike at the knees and doesn't seem too convinced by the call out there in the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the Umpire Strike Zone and now it's even [Applause] up the Yanks leading by three we're here in the top half of inning number three and a change up Clips the zone for a strike [Music] the pitch swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K KC down in order they Trail in this one three nothing ready to go for the last half of the inning here's woto singing you can't ask for anything more this guy checks all the boxes offensively he is the ultimate professional and it doesn't just start at game time it starts in the afternoon the way he prepares and gets ready for the ball game I tell you what his teammates feed off of the leadership that he shows on and off the field you know these Yankees doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side they're hitting everything thrown at them their contact rate is in the low 90s it's like they know what's coming and that's just pretty ridiculous what they're doing right now those numbers are well above the Major League average 2 right through there for a strike [Applause] two two now and they'll do it [Applause] again here's a two- two hit hard that gets through so a runner aboard to start the inning and that knock bumps his hitting streak into double digits Chris he's hitting 10 straight yeah and on a nice trajectory average going up OBP everything he's doing at the plate right now just seems to be working so man aboard here is Aaron Judge first pitch [Applause] misses and the righty deals that one sizzling on its way through to the Outfield throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out up the Austin wellis digs in now he's over for one that one fouled off next offering is downstairs [Applause] and the pitch swing and a miss and that strike two pickoff throw soda back on a DI and the pitch lifted in the air right center [Applause] [Music] field isbel makes the grab on the Run third Jazz Chisum Jr getting ready to hit one for one with a double and a run score hard grounder into the outfield for a knock around third now a long throw home he's sick wasting no time he's two for two now on the night and just a trickle and home run away from the cycle seriously we're starting with this already one away Runners it second and third Jason Dominguez now at the plate foul ball [Applause] there traffic on the bases with one already in here in the last half of the Third [Applause] [Applause] up the middle boots it one one is in a g shot to get him at first is to a board and they almost caught him but he's back in [Applause] time new pitcher in the game for the Royals Dani L he doesn't get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him they'll have to be in their toes with him on the bump one down and here is Anthony Rizzo 0 for one so far and the first pitch misses for ball one Runners at the corners one away here in game one of this three- game [Applause] set snap throw to first Dominguez gets back easily left the out of the stretch Runners at first and third safe it's second and he easily steals the bag to third tag got [Applause] him in the dirt blocked and the runner holds two outs and one in scoring position next offering upstairs really good take especially with two strikes swing and a miss struck him out that ends the inning and they limit the damage so two runs on four hits no errors and one left on three Innings complete it's the Yankees five and the Royals nothing back of the Bronx here's the third baseman number 11 when you talk about Elite defensive third baseman this guy is at the top of the list as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live arm delivers this guy plays Third Base like he's a shortstop and he welcomes the the difficult play can throw from so many different angles and makes really tough plays look very [Applause] [Music] easy swing and a miss struck him out and there's one down oh there's a three- pitch strike out he can do whatever he wants with the baseball right now so up down for Kansas City drone Blanco flyed to right his first time swing and a miss so what are the skills you look for that make a really good defensive third baseman that Elite well boo one of the things I think about immediately are just the feet does he have good feet is he able to quickly react and when you have Good Feet you've got soft hands and soft hand Defenders are able to make tough plays look easy now anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning got to be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction table Setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you're dealing with the number three hitter any distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot it's a two or three-run Homer hey seven straight strikes to start the frame he's got a chance in an Immaculate inning splits the plate and the count is 0 and two the Royals hitless so far in the game and a liner out into right center for a base hit so a two out not keeps the inning alive just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field here's the Royals designated hitter Nelson Velasquez just missed the pitch swing and a miss and the count one and one I think he was sitting off speed there rhon sets and deals that one at the knees for a strike and this guy's got a great feel for his break the ball today [Applause] down to the dirt swing and a miss gets to it on the first in time the two3 strikeout ends the inning so one left for Kansas City it's 5 nothing back in the Bronx John chabby and Chris Singleton with you and leading off the bottom of the fourth Oswaldo Cabrera the wi of the pitch that one's in there that's strike one SC to Center no doubt about it that is long g a gigantic blast his second home run of the game and they add a run it's six nothing that one just sounded different yeah it might have been the loudest moment yet man my ears are ringing I can feel that swing from the booth when you're working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not Fool by the location or the velocity he was all over that fast ball so up next Alex Verdugo first pitch and that's in for a strike [Applause] pulls that one foul the Yankees up big in this one we're here in the bottom of the fourth pitch in the dirt one and two the [Music] count that's inside the two- two out towards right center field Isbell has a beat on it calls it in and there's one away now back second Bas glaver here's glaver Torres well he's been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip and the matchup is very favorable Now One [Applause] Missed oh he doesn't get the call and that's ball two one down base is empty and a strike to glaver nasty two- slider there for a strike that tells you he's got a lot of confidence in that pitch [Applause] to third Dives but it kicks off his blow not in time great effort but it's an infield hito now one for two swing at a Miss strike one left hand batter Waits swings through that one for strike two good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it step off throw to first Torres back in safely man at first one away and there's a ball well he's not afraid to fall into a two- strike count knows the strike zone very well so much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it's a ball or strike if he swings or not that misses two and two it's a good take two two on the way and another ball he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he's walked Torres the base runner at first with one [Applause] out cuts on it and misses that's a strike out well done behind the dish oh that slider was way out of and for me it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand not tracking into the zone and then also being a little bit anxious not confident in your two strike approach and so when a guy's in that position you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and Miss as you did right there got him on the off-balance throw what a play inning over solo Homer extends the Yankees lead it's now a six nothing ball game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show and we're back and now it's Salvador Perez to the plate well every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice but it can be challenging for some pitchers I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse go after hitters and get quick outs well these Royals as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate they've been chasing pitches outside the Zone all game and it's led to some frustrating moments they've been fooled quite a bit today bounced and that got the pitcher and they get the out after the Ricochet and now they'll hustle out to check on him that was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee yeah clearly in some real pain but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn't have to it's looking to me like he's going to try to shake it off and continue here's the second baseman Michael Massie 0 for one he's struck out swinging last time that Clips a corner Massie measures 6 feet even 195 lbs and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2019 Bas is empty one away and we're at the top of the fifth ground ball Rizzo picks it up he handles it himself and the first two set down in the top of the F well he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution two outs faces empty and now MJ Melendez pitch misses there and it's w to know I can't play around with him here it's a six-run lead at this point got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot Off the Mark there now two and0 the rest of the lineup could learn a thing or two from this at bat right here he's been patient and now he's in the driver's seat with a the 20 count two down nobody on that missed by a lot now three and one oh they have had a hard time scoring in this one the pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking make sure that they don't get any confidence and that's Ball Four close pitch there but you got to forget about that call if you're out on the mound can't let it you going forward you got to get out of the inning first and then if you want to be frustrated take it out in the Dugout Isbell batting for the second time and that's strike one this guy is just filling up the strike zone right now don't want to get yourself in an 02 hole you better be ready to pull the trigger on the first pit at the belt and fires swing and a miss he was late strike two a head2 in the count sure You' got four pitches you can work with but throw something you can command and get this at bat over with as quickly as possible two outs swing and a miss dropped him out out number three Royals leave one they still find themselves down six Z bottom of the inning and now here is Austin Wells the wind to kick the pitch and that one is lifted in the air tracks it down for the out one down almost a loud start to the Inning on that first pitch man he's going to walk that one back no doubt down the third baseman Jaz jism [Applause] Jr swings through that one for strike one on activity in the Kansas City Bullpen Alec Marsh the young right-hander up at throwing bich getting loose as well next pitch is downstairs late on that fast ball he's been able to go inside as well as outside effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat the Yanks up big in this one last half of inning number five one down BCE is empty caught him looking for the K well I think that was just a case of a hitter quitting on a pitch he was looking fast ball and didn't see it out of the hand and just left the bat on his shoulder that was a change up right over the plate probably not the location he was looking for but the change of speeds is what fooled him and he got the out Dominguez the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one [Applause] this Ball's chopped on the ground now the throw to first on the Run not time he legs it off well he did all he could at Short to try to make an amazing play and almost got it done but good hustle down the line and that's an earned infield hit two outs runner at first Anthony Rizzo stepping in down for the runner on the go strike in there save at second and that was not close well I'm sure that steel will raise a couple of eyebrows because of this big lead but I think it's more respect for their opponent knowing that they've got to continue to add on if they're going to win this game don't take it as an offense take it as a sign of respect man on second two down swings through that big time Jam right there I hate it as a hitter but standing in center field you can't help but chuckle a little [Applause] bit o and two now slide misses outside runner at second two down swings and misses struck him out one left for the Yankees they lead it though six zip back here in New York top six stepping in Mike bro Mike as the Lefty gets to work swing and a ground ball at the middle that's a base hit and that turns the lineup over only two hits allowed so far tonight so I don't think that one will disrupt his momentum all that much you know he's really been on top of his game commanding his pitches all night long number 11 in the Box here lets that one go for a ball just missed braso aboard here at first with nobody [Applause] out foul ball the pitch down the right field line in a base hit bro ground second on his way to Third and now Runners at the corners nobody out backto back singles I love that swing and I'm sure his hitting coach does even more took the pitch right on the low outside corner of the zone and just ripped it for a base hit and that's easier said than done could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game Blanco into the box again takes a strike the pitch that's in there oh and two now it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but they've not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there goes down looking well that's just a great job of playing catch with the catcher exactly where the catcher set up is where he threw that pitch and probably F the Umpire a little bit because there was no budge at all two on with one out now here's Bobby Whit Jor first pitch and he just [Applause] misses right through there for a strike Whit Jr is one of only two players in Al NL history to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons Boo the other player julo Rodriguez next off an in there for a strike going to count one and two well in this situation with a runner on first less than two outs some say hey get the ground ball double play with two strikes some people say get the strike out I think you just execute your pitch make the best pitch you possibly can and let the result be whatever it's going to be two on one out swing and a miss struck him out and there's two down pretty Electric stuff showing up on the mound right now I mean in the double digit strikeouts he should be able to rack up some more before he's done in this one and not many of these hitters have had much of an answer for what he's offering out there Velasquez now at the plate as he swings through strike one so far this guy's been able to tease the strike zone gets those swings and misses somebody's going to have to shorten up be a little more patient and make this guy working the Zone a little more fast ball in for a strike and a count is 0 and two [Music] [Applause] got that's at number three make it six shutout innings for him out there now Yankees six and the Royals [Applause] nothing next for New York Oswaldo Cabrera and the way he's going in this one we've been waiting for his spot to come around again all right listen everyone stop with what you're doing right now this guy's got two home runs already now he's going for number three Lynch back to work wild Drive face Hill man aboard on the leadoff single well thly he was ready to hit right there I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league just a nice line dri drive into center field man at first here's the left fielder Alex Verdugo that's in there it's 0 and one you know these Yankees digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking they're getting a lot of loud contact right now nine hits have gone 90 Plus milph off the bat which puts a lot of pressure on the defense to make some tough plays under it and puts the squeeze on that one and there's one down and on the mound they can't be feeling too comfortable either with the way these guys are hitting the baseball it makes it harder to come into the strike zone for fear of getting hit [Music] hard that one hit to right Blanco makes the grab and there's two gone oh the throw is wild and now it's woto one for three [Applause] right Fly ball down the line Blanco settles under this one he makes the grab and that ends the inning they get a lead off single but leave them stranded we're through six full yany six and the Royals nothing here at new Yankee stadium in the Bronx and the batter now Salvador perezz changing speeds has this lineup completely off balance in this one we've seen a lot of mistime swings and it's been a challenge for these hitters to get their Rhythm right tosses to first that's the first out the top of the seventh Michael Michael Massie steps in for the Royals well on the mound very efficient able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every atat that pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track Bas is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven on the ground to short throw on to Rizzo and two away to start the seven up two out space is empty now the left fielder MJ [Applause] Melendez on the ground oh great stop to First nicely done for the out Royals bats are quiet there still up against the six nothing to [Music] deficit bottom of the seventh now it's Aaron judge up to the plate he's a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today's game this guy hits for contact so he delivers average but there's on base and slugging too and a pitch swing and that ball smashed out the line Melendez makes the grab one down clearly ready to hit right there first pitch of the inning hits a bullet and it just is one of those bad luck ABS Austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees 0 for three with three fly [Applause] outs and a strike Bullpen action for the Royals Josh Taylor up and loosening in the pen Stratton warming up as well bounced out to short with slings it across and a couple of quick outs the third basem number 13 and up next for New York Jazz jism [Applause] Jr first pitch not close [Applause] [Music] two down nobody on here the bottom of the [Applause] seven and one and two well two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here and that's not something that's come easy for this staff in this one cut on and Miss struck him out and is a three up three down inning Yanks held in check but they're on top by a count of six to nothing back in New York ready to begin the eighth and now the center fielder Kyle Isbell here comes the pitch fast ball for a strike Rhone still out there to pitch the eighth and working with a big lead he's been excellent really on his game in this one and at this point he wants to finish what he started and that's a base hit and the lead off man aboard oh you never like to cut it that close but the hitting streak will live on at least another day little bit of a tense moment singy looked like that might be the end of it I don't know the way he's been going his confidence must be Skyhigh so even if it takes until has lasted bad you get that sense that a hit's coming from this guy one way or another nobody out runner at first bounce to third into the Outfield base hit berdugo quickly throws it in and it's now first and second to start the inning couple of singles back to back just one of those seen High BAC hits through the infield just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock [Applause] now at the plate number 11 on the line base hit Coming Home Fires it to the plate safe stringing him together that's three hits in a row everything was on time and fluid in that swing got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock those always feel good drone Blanco steps in for the Royals first pitch just misses the Royals down five trying to battle back and we're in the top of the eight next offering in there for a strike one ball one [Applause] strike in the air to left Center makes the grab now B short Bobby two on with one out now it's the short stop Bobby Wht Jr we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offense aside for just a second Chris it's the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the [Applause] Most Aaron Boon makes his way out of the dck out and he will make a move to the [Applause] [Applause] bullpen new arm out of the bullpen Ian Hamilton should be a good first match up for him here he's been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season they've had a lot of trouble squaring him up see the velocity 97 with that fast ball a short stop takes a ball well he gets the balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there's certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away and it falls runner from second crosses the play it's 62 comes through with the RBI that ball right there landed in what they call a No Man's Land meaning it's not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily I mean it's a tough play going back for the short stop but also for the outfielders trying to come man they got to go a long way as well now Nelson Velasquez and that's downed [Applause] away the one- one is fouled off got him and he's gone for the fourth time tonight wow just great bite to that slider broke hard out of the zone and he just couldn't hold up the swing you know as a hitter that pitch is really hard to take and there's just not much you can do with it you know that but you don't want to get rung up by the Umpire and next up for the Royals Salvador Perez and there's the [Applause] strike and there's a foul ball and the right hater deals and down on strikes that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand so it's two runs on four hits no errors and a couple left on home half of inning number eight Straight Ahead Yankees six and the Royals two back now new pitcher on the M as we roll into the bottom of the E Josh Taylor he last pitch two days ago Jason Dominguez stepping in now for the Yankees three for three with two singles and a double [Applause] [Applause] down and he deals hit hard on the ground to shore fires across the diamond and that's one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth Anthony Rizzo steps to the plate oh0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground [Applause] out Taylor 31 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season there's a strike 95 of that one meanwhile activity in the bullpen Carlos Hernandez appears to be getting loose and it's fou [Applause] away now Fly ball to Right Center sizing this one up puts it away for the out and there's two down now two out Bas is empty and stepping in for the Yankees Oswaldo Cabrera three for three with a pair of home runs and a [Applause] single right side Massie tosses to First third out so the Yanks go in order they lead it 6-2 and welcome back to the ballpark now it's the second baseman Michael Mass MTH pitcher for the Yankees play holes he has a great slider with tons of the pitch on the ground to Jazz and a quick out number one the number one and he's two outs away here's the left fielder MJ Melendez way inside the Royals down by four near the top of the night b a strike the pitch fouls one off out of play back to our left [Applause] out to short Cabrera the throw to first two up two down good slider inside right there batter fighting to get there just rolled over it got the ground ball so it's their last chance in this one and now it's Kyle Isbell that misses and that's ball one [Applause] there's a strike the Yankees leading by four here in game one of this three- game set they're down to their final strike one strike away that one not close now two and two [Applause] on the ground the third into the Outfield base hit Joey gets on base and keeps it [Applause] going well that was one of those high percentage Advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it ground ball and this should do it throw to first game and the Yankees take the series opener here at home when you five in a row the confidence just goes to another level and you start to gain this momentum and you think that you're never going to lose a game again because things are clicking up and down the lineup pitchers are pitching the team is making the plays defensively this is the kind of feeling it's not going to last all season long but you want to ride it as long as you possibly can perhaps push it up to double digits and your final 6-2 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John chambi thanks for joining us our final L tonight first for the Victorious Yankees sixs on 12 hits no errors they left five Runners on Bay for Kansas City two runs on eight hits no errors they left seven Runners on Bay time of the Ball Game 3 hours and 2 minutes our paid attends here tonight at Yankee Stadium 47,300
