[Music] hello Baseball fans and welcome the show has an NL East matchup it's the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals first pitch coming at you right after the break so almost ready to get underway so here's the Lefty DJ hers Chris what should we keep an eye on here with him yeah he's definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip but he's going to have to find a way to limit the base runners put his team in a position to win a ball game so we know he's prepared we know this guy's a competitor and we'll watch how he works in this one and now for the Marlins Jazz Chisum Jr there's a [Applause] ball right side Thomas makes his way towards it he will get there that should be extra bases safe at second with a leadoff double well the first reaction was bad and it created the wrong angle I think it was a catchable Ball but because he doesn't get a good read off the bat turns it into a double Brian Del La Cruz digs in now Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads and that one wrapped foul hitter's got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the Outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit misses outside and the count even one and [Applause] one and it's second way outside and it's two [Applause] two clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast ball back that one the other way calls it in for the out and time now for the Marlins lineup this is not a team that's had much success driving the baseball so far this year they have to rely on stringing hits together as opposed to scoring a lot of runs on homers doubles and triples so it's hard to Bunch runs together and that's exhausting when your team is at the bottom of the league and slugging percentage and how much it takes Gro for you to put together a rally and put together a big inning just a difficult uh thing to do consistently over a long season so somehow someway somebody's going to have to find some power in this lineup so that they can have some easier wins and enjoy this season a little bit more next to hit Jake Berger as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed a base hit it's probably going to be a big run so you really have to execute on the m in the air right field makes the grab and that'll end the inning Marlins leave one and now the Nets get their first opportunity there's no score back after this on the show [Music] back in Washington DC and on the mound today Trevor Rogers Well you know this guy wants to be better than that I mean the ER is bloated he understands that he's got to put his team in a better position to win ball games and at this point you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that at w and if you do that you'll look up and most likely that ra will have dropped over time CJ Abrams at the plate and takes High there Rogers in his fourth year he features a four seam fast ball a change up a slider and he works in a two seamer left hand batter weights in the air right center this is smashed way back and Di a massive home run his 11th of the year and just like that they're out front it's one nothing that was blasted absolutely no doubt off the [Applause] bat for a pitcher the odds are in your favor if you keep that breaking ball down that time he got punished for it hitter just did a really good job of staying within himself and getting the barrel to the baseball here's Lane [Applause] Thomas and takes low for ball one [Applause] the Lefty fires swings and misses and that is strike one with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he's really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters right drive and that should be extra bases now he'll turn for second and that's a two bagger he was all over that one he got a pitch he could drive but he didn't get to Ed like a lot of guys do and pull off the baseball really good timing all the way through the swing and the barrel was so on plane with the ball easy drive into the gap for that [Applause] double here's Jesse Winker that one fouled off hard of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage runner at second nobody [Applause] out pitch misses there and one and [Applause] one one thing with Max Muny and it'll be interesting to see what he throws here he hammers the fast B that's offering misses down and [Applause] away and the two two ripped in left Center base hit headed for the plate he scores it's two now that's now three hits in a row for the offense anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there here's Eddie Rosario he swings and hits a Fly ball center field Chism settles underneath it makes the catch for the out and there's one down batting the second Bas as we take a look at the Nationals lineup and no doubt a big factor in this series so far Hebert Ruiz well boo there aren't many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does I mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me I I know it's not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in SC scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or [Applause] not at the Belton fires foul ball [Applause] there got him swing [Music] Bo gets talked about a lot but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation it's just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate having a good grip on the baseball those High fast balls they kind of look like to The Hitter that they're Rising even though they're not but they're not decreasing in velocity and spin rate so very difficult to get the barrel on it [Applause] he swings and fouls one off he's given up a couple of runs but the pitch count really not as high as you would think might be able to get through this one under 25 pitches that misses and the count one and two [Applause] wouldn't chase that [Applause] time two outs in the air left side Gordon sizes this one up caral it and the inning is over but two runs for them and they jump ahead second inning coming up from our nation's capital it's the Nationals two and the marins nothing back here in Nationals Park now it's going to be Jes [Music] Sanchez the wine of the pitch and ball one to the right fielder next offering is in for a strike Matthew Ross umpiring behind home plate for us in this one he's got a reputation for having a bit of white Strike Zone Chris yeah no doubt Bo he rewards pitchers when they're working the edges and sometimes a little bit beyond that so for the hitters just have to really be aware don't miss your pitch when you get it early in the count and that one is inside [Applause] and now the Lefty ah that hit him and the lead off man is AB board to start the inning I don't care what some players might say nobody likes getting hit by a pitch unless you're in an 02 count and there's a enough the baller out there on the M right ground her into the outfield for a knock throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out I'm sure he feels really good about that one get any air under it but he smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there's just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it so up next Nick [Applause] Gordon swings and lines a base hit into left field rounds third headed for the plate the throw is offline and he's in score and it's a one-run game well that was an important in this game so a great job there stepping up to the challenge takes an inside pitch and just FS it over there to left field and that's all he had to do is get something in the Outfield grass to push that run across and now it's Vidal bruhan and that one almost hit him [Applause] the 10 that's to third oh can't pick it up cleanly and everyone safe they're loaded here's the catcher n forz golden opportunity right here this is what nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation yeah Bo not sure what the numbers say but clearly in a b that could change the course of this game dramatically well this is a tough situation with the bases loaded but the healthiest mindset is just try to get outs one hitter at a time strike on the inside corner you need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something but you got to make some pitches that if he can battle and get through this he can earn some points bals that off to the left and will do it again goahead run at second and this crowd really locked in right now line drive base head one runs in throw comes into third and he's going to get to second with nobody out just a huge at bat right there nice job going the opposite way with it letting the ball travel and not allowing the barrel to hke around the ball it's so frustrating when you see a good pitch and your hands roll over it was on the outside part of the plate and he approached it perfectly back to the top of the Miami order Jazz Chisum Jr now led this game off with a double but they weren't able to drive him in that Clips the corner kicks and Deals fought off [Applause] foul and a pitch down the left field line Looks like extra bases one runs in another comes in to score it's 52 he's in with a double and that's his second double of the night got to be feeling great about that double big spot and he drives in two that was a thing of beauty he may have been a little behind the pitch but by getting that Barrel Into The Hitting Zone early on in his swing he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left runner in scoring position no outs Brian De La Cruz will hit next Way High [Applause] and that's downstairs and outside two balls no [Applause] strike that one catches the zone now two and one no outs runner on second and it's seed into Center that's a base hit around third he'll score easily and they lead by four well done drives in the run so impressive that he didn't get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside instead good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock Josh Bell at the plate now he popped out his first time way high there one and0 [Applause] snap throw to first and he's back [Applause] safely hot shot to third to Second that's one relay to First double play going gone two out Bas is empty now here's the cleanup hitter for Miami Jake burer SL out his first time popped up to the left into foul ground drifts towards it and makes the grab and that is that they bring nine to the plate and six come around to score we go to the bottom of inning number two it's the Marlin six and the Nationals two and welcome back to the ballpark here's the third baseman Nick senzel Nick senel [Applause] the wind of the pitch that misses and that's ball one sing he wasn't very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn't able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah boo he wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches he's going to need to figure it out quickly though showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extend it through the swing for the line drive base hit double play ball to Second good feed that's one on to First first double play I think four 63 double plays like that are way tougher than these guys make it look sometimes because no matter how you do it the feed from the second baseman is a tough one that's where footwork really comes into play but right there very well done on the ground out to short throws across the diamond play made that ends the inning new inning getting started and at the plate for Miami pesus sanchezes P back to work it's been a rough start on the mount for this guy this third inning so important for him to get on track Turn the Page settle in do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one so two balls and no strikes one thing with Max Muny and it'll be interesting to see what he throws here he hammers the fast ball and there's a breaking ball that drops in [Applause] there that just misses counts full three and two really good take especially with two strikes and he [Applause] walked man at first and up next for Miami Xavier Edwards one for one with a single and a run scored so far right through there for a strike that fast ball even though it's up that's the velocity you want to go after low 90s a lot better than trying to hit the high 90s roll to short possible two ball over to Second for one and that's two well almost anytime you roll over and send a two ball to short at this level you can pretty much count on a double play middle in fielders are just so reliable and they work on these plays all the time so it almost becomes like second nature Nick Gordon now at the pl right down to shoot that's strike oneall one [Applause] strike two down nobody on Good Eye in that spot [Applause] next offering is in for a strike two outs Bas is empty and that's downed [Applause] away swing and a pop off in foul ground drifts towards it he's got it and that'll do it and we're back bottom of the inning now it's the short stop CJ Abrams CJ the line in the pitch ball one no strikes and a foul ball and the pitch and there's a foul ball the pitch ball two two and two [Applause] and another [Applause] ball fouled off again and it remains three and [Music] two gets a piece there we'll do it again here's a pitch that one misses so a lead off walk in danger of losing the perfect game here it's tough after falling behind a hitter two balls and no strikes but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter but he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with [Applause] conviction Thomas batting for the second time and that's strike one that's a great take right there even though it's a strike with the situation runner on first base you want to keep the ball off the ground round and you swing at that pitch most likely you roll into a double play well the late off man gets on you want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two next offering is in for a [Applause] strike and down on strikes he goes one gone bottom of the third inning well definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn't look too convinced as he headed back after the Dugout you know those are tough ones that let go as a hitter but with the human umpire calling balls and Strikes it's always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes and here's the DH for Washington Jesse Winker Rogers checks over to First and he's [Applause] back that's out to center field under it Chisum pulls it down the left fielder number eight Eddie [Music] roario Eddie Rosario digging in for the Nationals he's over for [Applause] one line drive and makes the play and that's out number three Nationals leave one they still Trail it here it's 6-2 back in Washington DC start of the fourth and now it's the switch inning second baseman vial bruhan and here it comes now this is in the air down the line turns to the right on the move he makes the grab and there's one away now the Nick forz and now for the Marlins Nick fortez he drove in two with a single his first time up off the plate inside ball one one out base is empty next offering is downstairs two balls no [Applause] stke and a foul ball kicks and fires that one fouled off two and two one down base is empty three and [Applause] two good job to fight that one off outside and that is Ball Four number back to the top of the lineup and now the center fielder Jazz Chisum Jr that pitch gets the corner it's own and one movement in the bullpen Hunter Harvey up and throwing Barnes also throwing man at first one away [Applause] and it's fou away foul ball still o and [Applause] [Music] two just misses with that one and that's awfully close I don't know how you take that he's seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand really well right now bows it off still one and two the pitch to Second there's one and it's a double play and the inning so they go quietly there on now to the bottom of the fourth it's the mark six and the Nationals [Applause] two bottom of the fourth and now it's Luis Garcia the Nets in Striking Distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the leadoff man need a good at bat out of him right here that immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter this one popped up Burger should have this one puts it away for the out that was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate had pretty good timing on it just got underneath a little bit and popped it up and now it's kebert [Applause] Ruiz first pitch miss es but misjudges this one and it falls and just about everyone standing here in the ballark that Ball's carrying a dive and he can't haul it in makes the turn and heads for second and that's a [Applause] double couldn't have timed it up any better than that this was a really nice swing didn't quite get enough behind it to get it out of here but once he got over his head and left field there was extra bases all the way now it's Nick senzel one for one with a single so far one and0 this one in the dirt well done behind the dish [Music] [Applause] man it's second popped up Bell under this here he's been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season they've had a lot of trouble squaring them [Applause] up now it's the DH Brian De La Cruz one for two deuz the pitch swinging a foul straight back you know these Marlins showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one one thing that really stands out is their Chase rate League average is around oh nice stop and a slide and they get the out here's Fernando ta Jr he made his major League debut playing against the giant singing yeah and Madison Bum gner started for San Francisco that day and tatis singled in his first at bat you could feel the energy he brought to Petco Park in his very first game and now the switch hitting first baseman Josh Bell that Clips the corner well typically left fielders have the least amount of range in the Outfield so for her to take the responsibility in center field in this one she's going to really need her Corner teammates to help her out in the [Music] gaps Off the Mark there one and [Applause] one late with the swing there that was straight queso right there but misjudges this one and it falls and the the rally tows in full effect and that's in [Applause] dirt still two and two after the foul ball and the righty deals stays alive one down base is empty three ball two strike battling here as he fouls it away [Applause] [Music] popped up Garcia gets under it and puts the squeeze on that one and there's two down Jak Burger two outs Bas is empty Jake burer the next up for the Marlins this kid picked up in a trade a lot was offered and given to get him but he's got a real high high ceiling started to swing held [Applause] [Applause] up next offering popped in the air right field Thomas moving under it huls it in to end the [Applause] inning back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound number 71 and he's got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters Wasington here's the center fielder grounded out to Short first trip and a pitch there's a strike well these gats simply put are producing a lot of quality swings they've hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there's nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact that's almost always going to lead to positive results rander kicks deals playable bets make takes the grab and there's one away two and one swing and a pop up foul out of play off to the right side that'll find the stands the two- two that's to [Applause] Third and that's the first out in the bottom of the fif the number five AB here's CJ Abrams to hit he's already homered in this [Applause] game he swings and fouls one off right and that should do it steps on the bag himself ball game most players focus on hitting or pitching and some pitchers are extremely situational but two-way players just a different breed man it's
