to go and starting this one number 38 safe to say he's pretty stingy Chris well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion but just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side the underhand flip out on the underhand toss and now the tiger is lineup for manager AJ Hench one thing these guys do very well is stay out of the double play they've hit into the fewest of any team in the league Chris well boo we don't see situational hitting as that art as much as we used to because guys are slugging the ball they're hitting it over the fence but when you see a team that has the ability shorten up hit behind Runners and go first to third or first to home man that just adds to the element of what you're able to do in other ways with the bat so closing pitcher better not walk anybody or G them free base runners because these guys know what to do when men are on two outs Bas is empty himself in the expectations others half for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up and trying to rack up KS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting a ball over the fence and so for guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further bouns it off still one and two one down base is empty ripped to short whips it across and here this afternoon two quickly away in the bottom of the first and time now to check out the A's lineup and Chris this group has been struggling to put up runs lately well they haven't been on base a ton and even when they are they haven't been hitting very well with the runners on base so they need a player or two to really Step Up have some quality at bats hit according to the sit situation and sort of break out of this I think if they do the rest of this lineup will follow cuts and misses it's a strike out we move to the second here in Oakland no score and welcome back to the ballpark top of the second and now the right fielder carry Carpenter all around I think if you asked anyone in this organization who's the best hitter in the lineup they would say him next pitch is outside here's someone historically speaking that prefers Day games over night games so I'm excited to see what he does in this one to the right side gell on to first one out in the [Applause] second the Colt heat and now the rookie second baseman Colt [Applause] heat the pitch he swings and fouls one off second inning here no [Applause] score and a ground ball to First gray takes it himself two up two down to the top of the second two outs Bas is empty and next up for the Tigers Spencer [Applause] Tolsen late on that fast fall I think he was sitting off speed [Applause] there and another ball oh c swings and maybe the best name in the leag yeah that's a solid one no doubt I mean who's better to ask than you I kind of wonder Rusty is his actual name or just a nickname yeah no clue anyways Rusty's got a good Zone very good on the corners of the plate but he'll give pitchers a little bit above the letters and below the knees if they're earning [Applause] it rander kicks deals swings through that and it's a St strike out he didn't make it easy for him on the mound but they still get the strike out it's his first strike out at this level but it definely won't be as last so you know these early bats are all part of the process for a rookie and trust me big league pitching just looks different than minor league pitching still has plenty of opportunities ahead of him in this one though so here's Brown at the plate and there's a rocket into the Outfield round first digging for two the throw into second and his first big leag hit is a double Seth Brown with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here one out runner at second digging in for Oakland Zack gell and the rander deals two ball one [Applause] strike the two one fast ball for a [Applause] strike and that's into dirt and the righty deals foul we'll see another payoff pitch kicks and fires puts it in the air out towards left Center on the Move makes the grab after a long run and there's two down outstanding catch right there and I love the commitment that he showed he knew that the wall was close but was determined to make that catch and a nice calculation of just how much room he had to try to minimize that contact next up for the A's Tristan GRE [Applause] two outs two and [Applause] one that's hard hit in the line Meadows makes the catch and the inning is over the A's strand one we'll move to the third with no score back here in the East Bay on to the third inning here's the third baseman Jace [Applause] Young one two highfly ball down the left field line Brown makes the catch and there's one down Trey Sweeney up now for the Tigers and a pitch gets under it and Pops it up as this one sized up out number two batting done the catch Dylan dingler getting ready to hit dingler two down nobody on outside one straight wouldn't chase that [Applause] time two outs that one catches the zone that is strike two back to back fast balls in that last one called for a strike probably go away but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off 32 good play appearance there able to take the walk one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it step off throw to first dingler back in standing here's a 1-1 and another ball good spot there but didn't get the strike at the knees and doesn't seem too convinced by the call out there in the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the Umpire strike zone leftand hitter Waits swing and a ball lifted to center field Le makes the play and it's out number three one left for Detroit and we are still scoreless as we go to the last of the third and now number 12 he's someone that you might not describe as having Elite level speed but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game down the line and a foul ball Bo this guy's definitely a plus Runner but what i' love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break it's guys like that even though they don't have the Elite Speed the fact that they're consistent with it they make moves on the base paths righty to the plate got him looking and he did not like the call well just couldn't pull the trigger on the fast right there and I don't think he was taking it thinking it might be a called ball or anything I just think he was flat out frozen did not expect that location in my opinion now here is Jacob [Applause] Wilson one out face is empty pulls that one [Applause] foul lifted in the air now the left side green settles under it two down now pass the designated hit l so the Oakland lineup turns over and next is the designated hitter Lawrence butler two out space is empty and another ball though chis through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this [Applause] game there's the ball it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bull [Applause] fence why to kick the pitch headed down the line sizing this one up and that's the third out on to the fourth still scoreless and we're back now at the plate Riley green be conscious of that now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the M two two now gets a piece there we'll do it [Applause] again the wide of the pitch keeps the back going with a foul ball you can see was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speeded pitch but just a little tar on the fast ball on the ground right side throw on to Tolson and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off man he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution this is JJ bade all tied up we're up next for the A's this is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate Good Game caller good at framing but it's that big arm that really stands out the next pitch misses and the count is three and one when you got a catcher like this guy with a big arm like that behind the plate it really shuts down the running game and that is the third out of base stealer when you come into a game and you've got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm you really have to change your approach can't try to steal cuz you'll get thrown out maybe get a little bigger lead be agressive on the secondary but this type of guy shuts the running game down he's really good hitting the baseb the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him full so up next Spencer [Applause] Tolson and another ball [Applause] one down base is empty that one misses three and one here's an opportunity to do some damage and starting role today gave him some length back with the new arm after this new arm out of the Bullpen time Madden well they didn't get much length out of their starter in this one so they've got a lot of outs to eat up in that Bullpen I think they'll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it here's the second basement Zack gell kick sandal L Drive face Hill so man aboard now wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you've worked to get here and here's the first baseman Tristan gray Runner takes off it's in the dirt one save at second and that was not close you know what I like the aggressiveness right there looks like it's going to be tough to score in this one really good pitching so far so why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag get in the scoring position the next offering misses and the count is two and [Music] two he fouls it off we'll do it again don't think you want to throw him that pitch again he hammered it next time he'll make it's interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well so when you're looking at that position you're not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed but he does and I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed it makes the whole team that much better hit on the ground might be two flips to Second and that's two well the second base made that one look easy great feed to the short stop Short Stop completes the play they get out of a jam and they end the [Applause] inning and we're back and the batter will be the short stop Trey Sweeney you know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher what you tell yourself is I want to stay Square to the plate try to hit the ball over the short Stop's head next offer in there for a St now one and two what about playing another position on defense one that would require a little more range absolutely and I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game it surprise a lot of people you might even be able to put him in center field two2 now it's down on strikes and there's one away now here's a catcher to hit Dylan dingler ding next off bring is in for a strike hit on the ground to the right side and that's just foul [Applause] one down base is empty on the ground to short Wilson two quick a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never gray takes it to the bag and it's a one two three inning so he's through six no hit Innings now and we still have no score back back in Oakland now it's the short stop Jacob Wilson and the pitch swings through that one for strike two tigers Bullpen with some action Tyler Holton getting loose for AJ hinch vest a right-hander loosening up as [Applause] well struck him out swinging had him out front for strike three that's a pretty nasty pitch right there I call it a power curveball in the80s got so much spin on it and you really don't have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it's going to do before you have to Comm in it was a good one for The Swinging strike out now it's the DH Lawrence [Applause] Butler bounce to the right ke two up two down now batt the right field Brent Rooker here's a big Power threat Brent Rooker he's a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today's game this guy hits for contact so he delivers at oh now this one's blasted deep to left way back there on its way and out of here he'll touch them all and that gives him a lead it's one nothing looks like this guy was looking out over the plate but he was ready to turn on the inside fastball so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ball [Applause] car so two away with nobody on stepping in JJ Bay Fly ball to right Carpenter moving under this one nabs it and that ends the inning First Strike goes to Oakland as the A's are on top you're dialed into the show top of inning number seven here's count down in the ball game you've got to be very selective take your walk if they'll give it to you in danger of losing the no hitter here and there's ball for well it might be time to dig into that plays brings back some it's such an exciting play and it's always a great reminder of baseball being such a team sport and next will be the cleanup hitter Terry Carpenter two outs and there's a fly Ball Deep right field that's back there [Applause] gone he breaks up the No No with a homer and this game is tied it's 1-1 when you're working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not pulled by the location or the velocity he was all over that fast ball so digging in Colt Heath two down nobody on so a foul ball makes it one and [Applause] two here comes a pitch gets a piece and stays [Applause] alive and the pitch that one not close close two and [Applause] two the pitch that's inside three and two and he walked him trying to work his way back into the count right there but so much for that pretty good pitch but just doesn't get the call on 3 and it first Spencer Tolson will hit it's a good ADV back now it's the second baseman Zack gell and this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here [Applause] and another ball in the infield at the corners don't be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from [Applause] scoring swings through that one and he really sells the change up with that arm action [Applause] the pitch drive that's a base hit one from third into score it's 2-1 big RBI for him right there nice line drive to the P side met it out front but just stayed through it nice and off and ripped it into the Outfield and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion now on the bump will vest just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game one down runner at first and now the first baseman Tristan [Applause] gray the one one a swing and a miss as he chases way out of the Zone A's leading by a run here the bottom of the [Applause] seven that just miss two balls two strikes it's a good take pick off throw G Dives back in safely next offering is outside so here we go base runner at first could be little bit longer and a fast ball zipped on the inside corner just locks you up and now the short stop Trey Sweeny next offer in there for a strike and the count one and two look out and it hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit him two outs runner at first and next to hit for Detroit Dylan [Music] dingler run around the move pitch in for a strike go to Second ow and that a let in it the catcher definitely look ready for that stolen base attempt got in position quickly and a strike down the second base to end the inning [Applause] back here in the East Bay here's the short stop at the play Jacob Wilson Wilson b ball and he gets out of the way straighten him up a little bit [Applause] the 2-1 and that's outside right through there for a strike Reb strike [Applause] [Applause] and finished that really well just couldn't get him to offer out it right Ander kick steals that one fouled off two and [Applause] two nuts on it and misses that's a strike out couldn't catch up to the heater good pitch right there I mean he's attacking a location that this guy the pl tends to have trouble with and there's just so much information in this day and age sometimes too much information but the guys that can take that information process it and then go out there Boo and execute the pitch go right after that hitter and get the result that they were anticipating that's really good pitching right there and it's a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together and here is Brent Rooker [Applause] and he deals runner on the goal slides but gets by Wilson round second on his way to Third and they'll have Runners at the quarters after a one out single well that was one of those high percentage Advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher just a simple ground ball the other way they had on it man sometimes that's all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole and now the center fielder JJ bade the pitch punting gets it down to First over to Second for one and he'll eat it and be happy with the out and now a chance for Shay langers [Applause] Lang two outs and a swing and a miss and that's [Applause] that a run a hit and a man left ninth inning coming up it's the A's three and the Tigers won [Applause] back now and on the mound a closer Mason Miller he has a great slider with tons of mov now here's the Detroit catcher Dylan dingler and the pitch still two and two after the foul [Applause] ball got him and a strike out for the first out here in the nth and that right there is what you want to see out of your closure come in and close the door cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game tell you what that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs and a one one that one [Applause] miss in the air out towards right seven and there's two away hey man four pitches two outs that is an excellent face Riley so it's their last chance in this one now the number two hitter Riley [Applause] green and a foul ball one strike away and a swing in a miss and that is the ball game number 38
