[Music] from inside lone Depot Park in Miami Florida the show has an NL East matchup it's the Washington Nationals taking on the Miami Marlins John chambi Chris Singleton With You Chris one guy having a big year for this club leading the team at home runs and runs batted in Brian Del La Cruz yeah boo he's one of the pillars of this lineup and when you have a guy like that that's so consistent and so productive you want to make sure you can do whatever you can to get him to the plate get him as many at bats as you can in a ball game if you do that you got a really good chance of scoring a lot of runs so just about set now and towing the slab Trevor Rogers Chris what are you looking for from him four pitch guy he's got some options to work with in terms of keeping hitters off balance so we'll see how he decides to utilize those weapons through this start here and whether or not he's able to mix them all in early or if he wants to hold something back a little bit later maybe second third time through the order and give them something they haven't seen it's tough when you know a guy's got that in his back back pocket as a hitter you really have to stay on your toes CJ ABS stands in now and watches strike [Applause] [Applause] one left hand batter waights the short stop takes the ball this one in the air makes the grab one away as we take a look at the Nationals lineup one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Luis Garcia yeah definitely someone I always enjoy you know when I get a chance to watch him whether he's hit in a game or even taking swings during batting practice man this guy's always so focused on what he's doing on that task at hand he's got so much attention to detail that when he steps in the Box his success rate is really [Applause] high the one now Fly ball to Right Center sizing this one up he makes the catch and there's two now the left here's Jesse [Music] Winker and the first offering is not close nice warm day here good baseball weather does that change anything Chris especially for the hitters absolutely you feel so much more comfortable at the plate you're not worried about you know getting jammed on Fast balls inside part of the plate uh you can kind of be more selective instead of just looking out well plays made there and that retires the side Nationals go quietly and now the Marlins will have a crck at things no score back after this on the show back here in Miami and on the mound today Patrick Chris what should we keep an eye on here with him try to stay back for that power change up speed differential between the fast ball and the change up is huge hitters they have a hard time staying back Lis arise stands in as he turns on the rubber with that good live arm Deliverance that's off the pl [Applause] the wi in the pitch that one not close and the count is two and0 foul ball there and the pitch in the air right side and that is a foul ball and a pitch and another ball swing and a miss and he's down on strikes and there's one down Ryan Del La Cruz the next up for the Marlins thought off foul next pitch is downstairs one out base is [Applause] [Music] empty down the right field line that's a base [Applause] hit that he really shot that going down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing f one thing that was great about the approach his head was down all the way through the pitch and that's how you do it one down here's Josh [Applause] Bell swings through that when you're taking your lead over there at first you got to be very careful this guy on the Mounds got a good pickoff move Del La Cruz at first one gone next pitch is outside out front rip foul with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here here comes the pitch got him and now to G that aasil Garcia up to the [Applause] plate and that's off the Inside Edge ball [Applause] one the pitch and Garcia gets a piece and it stays Fair throw stops the lead runner at second two on and two [Applause] out Jazz Chism Jr now that one's in there and it's O and [Applause] [Applause] one two on two outs and that one fouled off [Applause] and here it comes not even close there it's a ball and two strikes first and second two down HS and misses it's a strike down sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve but that's okay as long as he's getting results and right there thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam back here at Lone Depot Park top of the second up now for Washington Joey manessis Rogers back to work that catches the corner [Applause] there's the strike 95 of that one all right now he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the Umpire calls but at this point he's going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the [Applause] zone and now the Lefty ripped on a line Del La Cruz pulls it down and there's one down and it's the catcher for the Nationals Riley Adams good power not great in the OBP Department left field gets under it two [Applause] down next to hit for the Nets ilaro Vargas [Applause] first pitch and that's in for a strike looks like a really good fast ball today you can hear that catcher mitt popping looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one just off the Inside Edge well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way he gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much out side plate coverage two out space is empty that one finds the zone and the Count's even at [Applause] two goes down looking nothing doing for Washington we go to the bottom of the second no score bottom of the second here's Tim Anderson Anderson the Lefty fires and it drops in man aboard on the leadoff single Wast no time there I don't know how he's able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it Emmanuel Rivera the next up for the [Applause] Marlins in the air right field Thomas gets there he's under it and out number one on the grab batting the third basano lope now the third baseman Otto Lopez definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an inning ending double play and fouled off with the go-ahead run at first bottom half of inning number two [Applause] that's ripped into the Outfield brings it in with a nice running grab out number two nothing instills more confidence in a team than a center fielder who makes a great play like that on the Run they can feed off the energy he brings just from his playmaking abilities and now for the mar ni Cortez [Applause] to the right side Garcia throws to first that's the third out inning over Marlins leave one we'll move to the third with no score well here we go top of the third scoreless game and now up for Washington Nick senzel the wi the kick the pitch that Clips The Zone it's own and one Rogers 26 years old a former first round pick back in 2017 that one finds the zone and it's nothing in two drilled out towards left center field that's well struck back there that's long gone and the mats have the lead it's one nothing the one thing the pitcher didn't want to happen just happened that's not an easy one to stomach no matter how this outing ends that pitch is going to haunt him for a while an 02 mistake that's supposed to be a Pitch Out Of The Zone he left it in a spot that the hitter could do some damage with and that's exactly what he did Luis Garcia in the box now no balls in a strike always exciting to see a leadoff home run and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big [Applause] inning sh missed swing and a ball lined out towards Center chisen snags it on the [Applause] Run here's the center fielder ball one no strikes if you're the pitcher you've got to go right at this guy it's the number nine hitter in the lineup you can't be afraid of contact in this situation and a base hit so that will bring up the top of the order with one away couldn't have timed it up any better than that that pretty much split the Zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion back to the top of the lineup and and now here's the Nationals leadoff man CJ Abrams late on that fast ball oh one's the [Applause] count one and one and a pitch out but nothing going on [Applause] now snap throw to first and he's back in on a dive one run acrossing the frame so far we're here in the top half of inning number three wouldn't chase that time swing and a miss that is strike two the pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to [Applause] track that one misses and now it's three and two and the pitch run around the goal and there's ball for that's a great if bat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk well that's a nice job of grinding out that at bat saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk very gritty here's Lane Thomas he's over for one [Applause] hit's got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the Outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit and a base hit throw back in holds the runner at third base is now loaded only one away love how he let that ball travel trusted his hand nice job of going the other way up now for Washington Jesse Winker golden opportunity right here that Clips the inside corner for a strike part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage now the oan good eye right there I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield in the air pretty deep out to center field drops into the glove here comes the runner from third the throw is offline and he's in to score and they lead by two well that can be a tough one with the bases loaded you can try to do too much but there he didn't he stayed within himself he got that run in with a sack fly would have been nice if the runners behind could have advanced but they'll take what they got Messes in the box now as he leaves that one up high Abrams over at second Thomas on it first with two now splits the plate and the count even at one well I know they've gotten out to an early lead but you don't want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs still lock in with a quality at bat drive in that run you may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game two outs oh he doesn't get the call two and one good spot there but didn't get the strike at the knees and doesn't seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the Umpire Strike Zone and a pinch bounced up the middle what a stop gathers and throws and that's a nice play to end the inning but two runs for him and they jump ahead we head now to the home half of inning number three it's the Nationals two and the marins nothing ready to go for the last half of the inning here's the second baseman Luis AR as the Lefty gets to work that one inside and that is ball one well the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there have a real quick inning get those guys back into the Dugout so those bats can stay hot this one in the air under it calls it in and there's one away up next for Mar the left now the number two hitter Brian Del La Cruz one for one with a single so far pitch misses there and that's ball one liner staged it first nothing you can do about those as a hitter even though you know that they still drive you absolutely crazy easy and now the switch hitting first baseman Josh Bell right through there for a strike and this guy is just filling up the strike zone right now don't want to get yourself in an 02 hole you better be ready to pull a trigger on the first pit Dives but it kicks off his glow flipped to the pitcher is in time he keeps his composure and they get the out nothing doing for the marins they Trail it here two nothing out to the fourth and it's the catcher for the Nationals Riley Adams Adams Rogers back to work that one back up the middle and it gets through and the leadoff man aboard up next to the stepping in ilar Vargas caught looking his first time up turned on but foul wide of third you know these Nationals doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient bats out of them they're doing a good job of working the pitch count and they've been able to push a couple of runs across the score as well Del Cruz calls it in and there's one away still relatively early but with a pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game now it's Nick senzel he's already homered here in this one ball one counts one and0 Adams the base runner at first with one out next offering is in for a [Applause] strike and another [Applause] ball and it's even up on the ground to First and that one finds its way through they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away oh they call that an advantage count for a reason you're so much more likely to get something you can handle not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play that's a teamate bat right there nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep and now it's it's Luis Garcia highfly ball out to center field chisen makes the grab he can get through this one put up a zero this will help in his outings to come and now the center fielder one for one with a single and a run scored so [Applause] far first pitch misses back to breaking ball just missed right there and boy umpire didn't give him the call I bet you if he throws it again hitter knows he's going to have to swing it and a foul ball first and second two down top half of inning number four next one is off the plate two and one could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming [Applause] and delivers outside love how this guy grinds out at bats I mean he's down there at the bottom of the lineup in the nine hole but he's worked himself into a really good hitters count trying to pick up a two out RBI at the belt and fires swing and a pop up arise after it and makes the play and that's out number three so the Nets leave a pair but they hold a two- nothing lead and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the fourth and now the right fielder abas Garcia the wi to the pitch right through there for a strike you know these Marlins to put it bluntly need to put together more competitive at bats and I don't think they've lived up to their own expectations at the plate they're swinging early being aggressive but one or two pitches later the atat is over that's not going to cut it if it's not resulting in hits so they might want to be a little more selective up there tosses across the first Garcia gone on the play number two and at the play for Miami Jazz Chisum Jr struck out swinging his first time B one there swing and a miss strike one it's gotten into a really good Rhythm set down seven in a row he just wants to get the baseball and delivered as quickly as possible keep the momentum going kicks and fires that's down and [Applause] in chase that time the Marlins trailing by two we're here in the bottom of the fourth and it's through for a hill so they get a man aboard with a one out single just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes it's all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole man at first with one gone and now the short stop Tim Anderson and he's is already singled in this game fouled off he was late now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that Gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it's really important to getting back into this ball game step off throw to first Dives back and he's out there's a lefty on the mount you've got to make sure you got more of a one-way lead even leaning back to the bag when he picks up his leg unless you're thinking you're going first move not sure what he was doing right there over at [Applause] first and there's a hit that's back to back singles for him nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into game but right there it did and he did it perfectly next to hit Emmanuel Rivera not close with that one and that's ball [Applause] one Anderson the runner at first with two gone just miss [Applause] [Music] swing and a line drive curling foul down the right [Applause] [Music] side close one doesn't get the call and now three and [Applause] one tying run at the plate that one fouled off 3-2 two out runner on first lot of movement in the infield hitters got to stay focused on the [Applause] pitch BS that off to the left and will do it [Applause] again outside and that is ball four well this could be the start of something they haven't found a way to score yet but now is their chance to change that so two on with away and here is Otto Lopez he's over for [Applause] one and that one ripped into right and it goes just foul two outs couple of base runners at first and second outside corner there's a strike come backer to the m what a play inning over Marlin strand a pair they're still down it's two [Applause] zip and we're back ready now for the fifth inning now at the plate CJ a little surprised they don't see a pinch hitter here at the Lefty Lefty matchup breaking ball inside and it's w to know well these gats doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side one thing that really stands out to me is how they've only struck out one time that's good discipline right there and on top of it they're producing more than a hit per inning [Applause] top of the zone and it's called a strike all those numbers mean this offense is really making the defense work by just putting the ball into play Anything Can Happen at that point under it and there's one down now right lane Thomas digging in for the Nationals there's a swing and a drive and it bangs off the out of town scoreboard Thomas into second and he's got a double well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win [Applause] next to hit for the Nets Jesse [Applause] Winker and that's down it away ball one no strike man it's second right through there for a strike sides of activity in the pen for the Marlins number 53 appears to be getting loose weathers also getting [Applause] ready clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast ball back The onew Struck him out without a swing strike three called and a slider at the knees just locked him up right there for the second out and that's an a bat he's probably going to be thinking about for a little while didn't pull the trigger not how you want to go down in an RBI spot so now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up Joey manessis getting ready to hit and there's a foul ball runner at second two [Applause] down now finds the corner and the count is 0 and two and there's a ball his understanding the strike zone very impressive that was a very close o02 fast ball I just don't know how you take that that one not close the count now two and two and another ball runner at second two down and we're in the top of the fif struck him out looking so one left for Washington but they're on top two [Applause] nothing we head to the bottom of the fifth and here's the catcher n forz you got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off in there for a strike at the bottom of the Zone liner face hit and that turns the lineup [Applause] over well he's been working out of the stretch just about the entire game boo a lot of base runners on against him and he's just done a really nice job of scattering the hits not giving up any runs but at some point your luck usually runs out so the batting order turns over and up next for Miami Luis AR off the plate inside one [Applause] and0 with the tying run at the plate last half of inning number five right through there for a strike [Applause] next offering is down low way to lay off that pitch down that misses the zone and now three and one Brian Del La Cruz in the on Deck Circle runner at first with no outs here downstairs and it misses Ball Four well now he's got two Runners on after that walk and things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations so he's going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone first and second no outs and the batter now Brian De La [Applause] Cruz ripped but it pearls foul these fans they are ready to cheer about something [Applause] so the tying run at second that one down the line and it's just foul that was close swing and a miss struck him out he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fool two on one out Josh Bell at the plate now in there at the knees and that is strike one [Applause] the pitch Off the Mark there and now it's even one and one and that one fouled off pretty impressive we haven't seen that pitch from him much but he's got a really good feel when he throws it one and two now hit on the ground might be two Garcia to Second and that's a double play to end it Corbin gets his first big league win and what a performance he put together to do it singing a complete Game feels like one of those outings you can only dream about I doubt he went out there today thinking that he's going to go the distance but he had it all working and they let him finish the job I love that that was something special very cool to see two nothing your
