Clemson Tigers Week 5

before they run down the hill at Clemson they touch Howard's Rock only because if they're not as Frank Howard himself said keep your stinking hands off my rock Death Valley in Clemson South Carolina hold so the Clemson Tigers offense will get the first possession of the game and here comes this quarterback when he takes the field he brings a certain Swagger and Charisma out there that the entire not only the entire team the entire Stadium seems to feed off [Music] [Applause] them first down for this offense [Applause] used the play fake now to throw unloads to the white out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pick up this has been a staple of the offense at Clemson get receivers let them make plays down field and has been very effective over the years yeah and good quarterback play obviously helps but when you got good matchups on the outside it kind of makes the defense very predictable like I got to give help okay it helps my running game you don't give help okay I'm throwing to my freak out wide so I think these guys on the outside with all that speed definitely are a problem for defenses and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy there's a lot of different ways this offense can attack and throw in the ball one of them is getting the running back going and the screen is a great way to get him lathered up and get the defense starting to think about him he's going for an all oh he can't hang on to the football a big play sitting right there for the taking and they can't get it done early in this one to the air it's clck he'll take another shot here he got it and he Clemson ready to dial up some ball plays they've got it on offense how about that last drive just carved him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback you gave him the ball and he delivered the goods great job taking apart the defense Jesse on that last Drive really did David I mean that was a master class in just reading coverage and being accurate the play action fake dances away from the heat he turns it Loose to the left and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass and the incomplete pass will bring up up fourth down and money down is where you see defenses really understand where the sticks are play great past defense know what's coming and get off the [Applause] field Clemson has their paws on it and they'll send out the offense here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers reys I think it's finding the guys that have been working for earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here fires to the wide out just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection and when you're a quarterback man I know wide receivers are great athletes and they're supposed to catch everything that gets near them but when you don't put it right on the center when they're running a lot of times it just makes it a little bit more difficult and I think he did that a little bit too much for his wide receiver on there he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down the Tigers come to the line with a fresh set of downs they're going to throw it again they've got the screen set up didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short game there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium back to pass it's KCK he looks that one in nicely he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch Clemson trying to put its paw on a productive Red Zone trip they'll run the screen and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker the offense knocking on the door first and goal he's looking to throw it getting some heat he's going to be able to pick up a few yards before the slide he pushed it ahead to the four they'll try to cash in on second and goal he's looking to throw reels it in in the looking for a productive play on first down quarterback reacting to what the D is showing off the play fake on first down wants to throw going to take a shot and it's caught inside the 30 and the catch and L the offense lining up for a first down play he wants to throw pressure coming hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance this QB has had a lot of success all day long throwing for so many touchdowns looking very comfortable finally the defense gets to him finally the defense gets a win they needed something to go their way got to start getting some war on this G time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line might as well give it to him again and after the tackle we are headed to the end of the first quarter we've come to the end into the quarter and Clemson has the lead they wanted to strike first and strike hard and they've been able to do that here in the first quarter as we take a look at the stats they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 dropping back it's kutnick trying to get behind the defense touchdown the offense set for a first down play [Applause] he Wast no time and comes out throwing it's complete on the right side and good coverage by the defense just a short gain still some work to do after that last completion it's second down he's looking to throw trying to beat the D deep and he makes the grab of the 20 and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop they build their attack around those big plays and they got one to give them a first and 10 in the red zone at the 18 a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop operating in the Red Zone here on second down running back searching for a hole he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I and he's sprinting H here comes the offense on first down used the play fake now to throw sends it down field and that'll be incomplete they tried to hit him with a big one on first down after the misfire now on second down they're setting up the screen really good pick up on second down there leaves him with third and two well a nice Gainer on that running back screen how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks really help out the b he tosses one high and deep down the left side and it's caught inside the 20 and he'll okay Clemson ready to dial up some ball plays they've got it on offense this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they wanted to do build the lead now Palmer's a different animal now you got to protect them you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they they have gone out everybody right now on the same page the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense and that one's incomplete well on that incompletion the quarterback and receiver just not on the same page I mean that wasn't even close that last incomplete pass has him staring at a third and three complete and looking for enough for the first down and they gave him no chance to get loose and they force a fourth down they really have no choice here this is a no-brainer you go for it here on this fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down he's got it they bur turns out to be an easy conversion for this offense as they move the chains on fourth down Here Comes Clemson with another first down he's going to pass and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming after the misconnection it's second down quarterback checking off scanning the field it's clck and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete they're close enough for a makeable field goal from the 26 but they'd love to convert this third in long he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short on fourth down they'll try to get something out of this drive before the end of the half absolute sh Clemson has their paws on it and they'll send out the offense we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah and it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for it more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish Stronger Yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get closer and closer down to the end zone they created a lot of breathing room with that first play of the drive now first down from the 39 to the ground he's got it again and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that makes the stop at the 49 giv him five yds on the play and a first down you know they Pride themselves on being physical at the point of attack dominating at the line of scrimmage nice job there picking up the first down fires to the big fell I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle quickly complete when we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make him onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense finds his tight end and he might be known for run fits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end if they don't pick up this third down let's see if they trust their field goal kicker after the Miss on the left throws toward the end zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker tried to give it another [Applause] body Clemson ready to dial up some ball plays they've got it on offense to the air on first down quickly out to the tight end and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few second down coming up wants to throw it's clck got it set up on the outside at the 45 on it way they make the Stop and not before the screen has hit him for a first down and much more really good execution by this offense get it out on the screen at the 40 there he goes they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running [Applause] back back to the air one more time makes his connection and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in pre-nap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like great down to the 16 yd line it's first and 10 from the Red Zone looking for a receiver trying to set up the screen and he throws the [Applause] interception line gets set first down smart move to keep it on the ground at the 35 loose he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense fresh legs man and it is showing of course this team had the buy last week and you're seeing it right now late in the game running the football imposing their will against the defense that looks tired of course they had to play last week and and you're seeing that right now hey this is exactly where you're want to be as an offensive coordinator like when you've got the lead late in the football game just run the football ball eat the clock man they put a that's a right ball now look what I found I'd say that's a stroke of Good Fortune the offense keeps it the offense fortunate to still have the ball but also facing a big third down only able to pick up a yard before he stopped and now it's Fourth and three Clemson will send the punt team out this will be the second time they've had to kick it away the ball hits at the Clemson has their paws on it and they'll send out the offense what a feeling this has to be David in complete control and headed toward Victory formation yeah no stress under a couple minutes left in the ball game well in hand these are the ones Jesse you like to just run the clock take a knee whatever you want no doubt they're going to love watching this game film too there's just so many positives to take away from this and this is the kind of per performance today it is really going to help this offense is confidence just complete and
