that Nevada game was pretty good Montana state New Mexico was pretty good there's also High School football on TV last weekend that was always fun to see those National High School games there's a team though it was wearing a friendship blue and yellow with a Notre Dame gold helmet it was one of the ugliest combos I have ever seen uh but more football tonight we'll talk about those games today grills guy but uh the white socks lost again yesterday and they lost twice and this so happens to be against the Texas Rangers uh big double header for the Rangers I think they needed those wins they're five and five now in their last 10 after being really bad for a while it's the only team they can beat it's the only team they can beat they been a five uh five in a row six in a row whatever it's been now I guess five in a row cuz you didn't play Monday an act of the glove Gods last night Travis Janowski was kind of the unwritten hero last year in large stretches of the Season uh he was hitting 300 and was really good this year he's kind of been a forgotten guy he's not played as much with the uh with the uh the the admittance of Wyatt lenford into the lineup and some of the other young guys Travis Jan Cy has just not played as much this year but last night he is in left field the game is tied he just got put in just got put in defensive replacement and he made the catch of the year yeah stupid and I don't know that uh it'll be on the spbs or anything cuz it's the white socks and the Rangers on a Wednesday on a Wednesday in a a back end of a double header in a game that really doesn't matter much no uh Evan Grant counted the people at the first game he said from the Press Box he literally count he counted 49 people in the first inning of the first game and it's a it's a rain out reschedule in the middle of a day on a really bad team so I guess I understand it a little bit but 49 people that's pretty bad hardcore fans hardcore I mean how how much of a hardcore fan do you have to be to be at the ballpark in that game uh but Janowski he he grabs the wall with his uh throwing arm pulls himself up reaches over the wall catches the ball got way more extension than most robberies you see because of the grab and then the cleat is on the fence so then the push off push up to basically basically it's like imagine standing on your tiptoes with one foot in a fence extending that out and you know just basically going as far as uh you can go without go go gadget arms you know I just couldn't believe how far his extension got out out over the bullpen to to bring that in we're talking you know three or four feet to to to extend it out to to grab it it looked like he almost hit uh the reliever warming up in the face that was preparing for Extra Innings I me this glove got that far into the bullpen we did have a get hit in the face and I'm going to show you during the break I didn't see this last night so this is a tweet this is I don't think I don't think people understand that when I say every White Sox game they do something so ridiculous and unique that you've never seen it before I mean it for instance Chucky Robinson just almost killed lanan Sosa in between innings you could have said any two names in that sentence and I would have believe they thought they were like chess players or something yeah who'd you say Chucky Robinson and who Chucky Robinson and lanan Sosa all right linen Len L not gonna not gonna work here anymore the the white socks are on Pace to be I mean they're already the worst team ever so it's it's not like a huge accomplishment to beat them him but winning baseball games is difficult but when they're doing stuff like that it's we have to win you know what um you have to beat the white you know what season we're currently in just for this week what season creative season okay the creatives are busting out content left and right I am you mean it's every school you know oh yeah hype Video central you know here Red Raiders you know you know I listened to Joey Maguire's press conference this week when he was giving his uh spiel about coming to the game I was like that's pretty good they put it over music in a video this week and I was like all right let's go like just a little bit of littleit Friday Night Lights music behind it really gets you going I really don't think those guys you know Patrick Clancy and and up and down the the lineup for Texas Tech I don't even think I don't think they sleep during this time of year I mean no I can see them in their little um creative caves surrounded by computers and and um and video and music and the editing software and just pounding away content because it's at least to a day two little I mean the one that was released this morning was released an hour ago it's an hour it's a minute hour it's a minute 20 long and um you know here in West Texas every second counts you'd be surprised how long it takes to make a minute video and how long it takes to you know rip down and save and all that stuff um uniform reveal generally happens on a Thursday either I think they were doing it right before the Joey Maguire show or right after last year um I wonder if they'll save it this year and just surprise the people for the first combo um do you have any you have any guesses nah on the uniform reveal nope not really I I mean I I would say black black red but that's just yeah I think they'll save the red uniform but you might get some red pants today or in the uniform reveal all we'll do headlines after this Colorado tonight Colorado tonight tonight and it certainly makes the Texas Tech football game feel that much closer uh just two days away the countdowns are at two today uh people honoring I'm sure BJ Simmons uh you can honor Baron Morton is number two today I'm blanking on many other number twos but I'm sure there are a ton of uh great number twos here in Texas Tech History BJ's always the one to think of he started as number four but uh gave it away to a teammate and uh about Buzz Aldren he was the second man to walk on the moon that's true that'll work as a Texas good Texas Tech Legend Buzz Aldren uh you know they play inevitably Sports talkers will play this game this is not where I I excel no numbers no that does not uh I remember they they tried to throw that on me back in like 2000 six when I had my first Sports Talk Show like who's the most famous uh number 72 and I'm like yeah and even the ones that you know could be construed as well duh you know famous athletes uh I I just it doesn't match in my mind I can't play that match game and it's there's just a few that I could identify when you said 72 I thought Randy White but I'm pretty sure he's 74 so I'm always pretty close all right let's take a look at the calendar your daily look at what's happening in the World of Sports birthdays and holidays let's check the calendar in in here and it rears its ugly head in certain situations and that's one of them um I think that's why I write everything down so I can just see it and try to hopefully have it stick um chop suie day uh is it bad that I go to System of a Down about to say the longer than food more than the food yeah individual rights day Cabernet day International Day against nuclear tests lemon juice Day More herbs less salt day National Swiss wine Growers day what when Miss more herbs less salt laughing at the pottery's bottle oven day okay and a thoughtful Thursday observed the last Thursday in August be thoughtful be thought think back on your year so far oh it has sucked it has sucked hopefully it'll turn hopefully a couple of birthdays today uh Elliot gold is he still around he is 86 no kidding uh the only thing I I saw his picture the only thing I think of him in is uh Oceans 11 I think he's one of the old guys I guess Riner maybe was Saul but he's the other one he could have been Saul uh Rebecca day mouret is 65 today leam Michelle of Glee Fame is 8 they worked Rebecca deor into Seinfeld um I'll just leave it at that uh would have had a birthday today John McCain and Michael Jackson couple of American Heroes there uh other birthdays today uh let's see the guitarist Kyle cook for Matchbox 20 is 49 feel like Matchbox 20 gets lots of mentions on this show um and then some athletes or from the World of Sports John uh not John Jay enre uh the Canadian broadcaster from TSN is 50 today what was his show Jay and uh they played it on Fox Sports One for a while uh they like right when Fox Sports One was like going all in on Sports they were like let's put this Canadian Show on in America and uh let these guys go wild Roy Oswalt was born in 1977 Chris Sims Tampa Bay Buccaneers Legend Texas Longhorn was born in 1980 Chris Sims on peacock now I believe the only thing I remember about his NFL career is he exploded his spleen as a buck I believe yeah I remember that too I think that's yeah I think that's the highlight of his iner he was not uh burst spleen not longstanding there for the NFL all right I want to go back to some of these games tonight anything like must watch yeah it's North Dakota State in Colorado I mean that is the game there's a couple levels of it for me um I want to see how U you know one of the best over the last 20 years now from the FCS Stacks up against um a a hyped Prime team in prime time um you I want to see Colorado's crowd I want to see they at you know I've been I've been to a game there so I know what their atmosphere is like um one of those places that benefits from just incredible natural natural beauty around the stadium I Boulder's gorgeous but um you know bison against buffalos um let me tell you that might be the same animal but they're going to be a different animal on the field uh the'll be big time contrasting Styles but North Dakota state does produce some NFL Talent um you know quarterback you it's to me it's kind of a uh prequel to Saturday in still water yes because you have number one I mean like I guess this quarterback from South Dakota State's unreal um so you know just to the whole soap opera with the Colorado and then the Bison always put out a good product so I want to see if it holds up and give me the give me the points Colorado is so fragile I think just as a program right now if they lose game one they have to go to Nebraska and that's a whole another thing somebody said somebody said uh who's keeping this guy from getting to the national college football playoff they put the C the schedule on there and circled all the teams yeah that one was funny and the it was also who's keeping Deion Sanders in Colorado from the playoff and then it was just a quot to of a picture of Deion Sanders yep both of those were funny uh North Carolina Minnesota also intrigues me tonight that's a a really close Line North Carolina is in Minnesota that's Mack Brown versus PJ Fleck I guess PJ fleck's not one of the youngest coaches anymore he's been around quite a while but that was kind of his calling card um at Central Michigan where was he before Minnesota wherever he was that he was one of the youngest coaches I think Cliff was the youngest coach and then PJ Fleck came along but he's been around a while now and North Carolina's coach obviously Mack Brown is one of the oldest in college football if not the oldest um so that's what I'm looking for minus two is that line I'll watch some early uh Kansas of course it's at the same time as those other two so I'll probably be locked into the other two more um but the rest of them I just I don't know I mean Missouri's a 47 and a half Point favorite will I tune into any of that versus Murray State the answer is no no Arkansas Arkansas Pine Bluff I mean if some of these huge lines are close I'll tune in late um I'll probably watch the first quarter of Rutter's Howard if I have the Big 10 Network I don't even know that I do just because it's the first game but if the line's over 30 I'm not watching unless it's close in the second half yeah I mean there's nothing I need Howard in the points did you I did all right just because it was the first one or I mean do you know anything about Howard I like Howard nothing like just kind of like biased growing up in that area but but um ruers is pretty banged up from what I've read coming out of training camp um so I don't know if they'll and they are playing Howard so I don't know how much starting time their starters are going to be playing so I just I don't know it's kind of one of those matchups where you never know what could possibly burning questions 2 minutes and non-stop inyou face inquiries with no end in sight it's time now for burning questions okay Mr bro who's the greatest TV villain of all time o I saw one that came up on my timeline that spurred me to do this TV villain TV V villain from HBO to the Showtime shows which you know I haven't watched a ton of that but there's some that really stand out uh what's her what's her face from uh Ozark would be in my top five Wendy bird I think she is Purity evil you know I watched the first season of Ozark but I never went back I need to you need to I've always wanted to it's just uh I've not had a continuous subscription to Netflix so I need to get back into Ozark you know I'm I'm a partial to a sympathetic villain and I don't know that people would call uh you might say the villain of like Breaking Bad is uh Gus Gus Fring but I would I would say uh Walter White is one of my favorite TV villains and then I I is he more of a villain than Gus Fring I think so I think he's more evil at the end I mean yeah once you start I don't want to spoil it for anybody I know it's been out for 10 years or whatever probably probably if you're getting it spoiled now it's your fault but you probably should have seen it already oh my gosh you may be right you may be right I mean he well more spoilers he kills Gus and uh is the villain of the last couple of seasons for sure what a scene and then uh ding ding D D D D D D more sympathetic villains I uh I the show Dexter uh obviously he's the protagonist there but I think he's also the antagonist as the the Bay Harbor butcher uh living in plain sight the entire time but I like those kind of Villains The the ones that you kind of root for Gus was the most uh I think chameleon villain that I've ever seen yeah could put on the smile on the the suit and the charm and the you know come in here and eat the chicken and chicken uniform and they'll kill you you know but uh uh there's so many great characters in that show I didn't really believe his villainous side until he you know broke out the box cutter yeah you're like all right this guy's legit is bad news this guy's legit uh most you would spend on a cold beer at a ball game you know if it's a tall boy I'll I'll spend eight bucks on a beer 10 10 I think would be my real limit I'll just uh have a $4 water bottle but if it's a tall boy I'll I'll spend 10 bucks eight bucks start bench cut I'm going second or third or fourth tier candy bars okay Whatchamacallit Almond Joy Three Musketeers ooh uh I think in that order I'm actually partial to a whatam mcalla I love what mall that's one of my favorites uh it's kind of Heath esque kind of the the snap to it what Mallet remember those commercials ah I don't remember a whatam mallet commercial I don't think I've ever seen one oh these are old and then I was going to say you ever heard of crunch taters no you ever heard of crunch taters go so that was the first cattle cook chip no I never heard of those when you said Alman Joy I was like oh that's going to get cut but then you said the uh I think three musketeers lousy yeah I would put that last I would cut that that's only if you need a sugar boost yeah it's I mean it's just air it's nothing like a little heft so now this one's going to be very uh personal okay and I I I want to get your opinion on what you would have done so last night it's getting pretty late still hadn't eaten dinner wife's doing a hundred different things I mean kids wife you know laundry put so we're going to throw a couple pizzas in the oven one of the pizzas Burns so we're down to one pizza so we you know parcel it out so I'm thinking I know what I'm doing I'm go get me some ice cream my stomach's growing right now so I go through my ice cream place and I say I want a large cuz I'm like I hadn't had much to eat today at all and I'm G I'm gonna do it large mix Heath I'm surprised at the price because it was lower than advertised they're actually on sale okay it's not often you get surprised by a lower price today exactly I get up there it's probably 65% full now look at me yeah okay look at us yeah does does the does the large guy go back and say hey Philip my I mean I'm stuck I I I literally just sat there like trying to process it I was like cuz the same lady that rung me up was the same lady that handed me the ice cream she's probably there by herself cuz it's late right and I'm like hey top me off here what are you do in that situation because I turned the corner and I saw the on the Marquee the picture of the mix and it's overflowing yeah you know you you can see the ice cream and the candy at the very lip yeah and and I kind of patted it it was almost like if you patted it down a little bit it's more like 50% full I will say you you certainly had a leg to stand on to go back and get it filled up I probably would not have I probably would have just said all right that's that's my lot in life today that's what I did yeah but I'm I'm non-confrontational especially on uh things like that if people are going to be like oh you know the fat guys coming that's exactly what it's exactly my line of thinking on the situation Lucas would have been fine he's like hey these are my calories for today I need you to fill it to the to but for me and my size that kept me from going back and asking for more ice cream yeah I probably would have done the same uh here's a burning question for you from the chat line uh for a million dollars and usually when things start off like this I'm like yes I'll do it I'm doing it I'm the opposite uh you have to use the bathroom in a convenience store for one year every time uh no yard PS or anything in or out so every time you need to use the bathroom you have to go to a convenience store now that would be an inconvenience store at that point but well that one at the corner a million dollars pretty close to your house it's clean there are some good ones out there it's clean and there's usually nobody in there um I think I might I'm in I think I might do this one I in there's one by my house that's new so I'll take advantage yeah this one's also brand new it's been open for eight months now if you're saying you have to go to the alsips and Crosbyton yeah that might be a problem but uh there's some pretty there's a lot of new gas stations in love a lot of new con convenience stores I bet you there's 40 more gas stations in LC than when I got here oh yeah in 2016 it's unbelievable oh yeah I mean you can just imagine from when I was in high school in the middle of the 2000s to now pretty incredible like when people come back like I understand if Tyler Shu played here in 2006 and he's like a lck was kind of a dump I'd be like oh well you know okay but now it's it's grown so much I just don't believe it when people say that either playing time is not required this is the end of the bench podcast from 1007 the score welcome back 100.7 The Score I we'll t97 3 from 6:00 to9 and obviously Tech talk talk and Tech uh at Twin Peaks today and at the Overton tomorrow I believe uh we'll just have bukus of knowledge for you there with Clinton Gus but I did want to talk about it a little bit today they went five- six last year three and three through conference play their final game of the season was against A&M this is ACU I'm talking about uh they lost 38 to10 and I think it was a pick six that scored their touchdown so they did not score an offensive touchdown against can say him but it was 38-10 the year prior when they were much better team they only lost games by three points I think they were nine and three or nine and four they lost to stepen F Austin twice and Missouri and it was a very close game against Missouri so AC has been competitive in the last two seasons we're not as competitive last year with a five- six record they lost to Incarnate Word by a touchdown Incarnate Word was number nine in their division uh they lost to North Texas by 14 Stephen F Austin by a touchdown tlon by one and then A&M by uh 28 28 there so uh a competitive team in the last couple of years but I would say last year they were not nearly as competitive as they were the year before uh they rushed for about 150 a game they passed for less than 200 so not exactly an electric offense last year and that is Maverick mver former Red Raider at quarterback um and they were 26 points per game which was fifth in their conference uh in conference play last year Texas Tech scored 24 points per game so about even in conference play certainly a different level of competition don't don't let me uh see on the chat line later that Rob said that they were even offenses um but I do think the style of offense is a little bit similar as to what you had last year of course again injured shoulder for the quarterback defensively they allowed 209 rushing yards a game and 245 passing yards a game and they allowed 29 points per game uh when you allow more than you make uh that's not good uh we've talked about it all week but former Red Raiders uh on the roster Maverick mver Nehemiah Martinez Trey Cleveland Hut Graham hut hut Jed castles so there is a world where there was a name of meteorologist and Tulsa Jed castles Jed castles uh week weather update four former Red Raiders could catch passes uh on Saturday uh and then an offensive linean Tayon who didn't play here but was here and then a punter Grant nickel who again did not play here but was here I guess you could also say Hut and Maverick did not play but were here Trey Cleveland had more than 300 yards for Texas Tech last year was at North Texas had more than 400 yards had a career year at North Texas and then went to AC neemi Martinez 2 years ago 300 plus yards at Texas Tech last year at Texas Tech uh was a ghost pretty much did not really get on the field again and now he is back uh playing football at ACU couple of love guys cornado grat Isaiah Kelly and Cooper grads Isaiah Johnson and Coulter Lynch as well as is the aforementioned Nehemiah Martinez uh Maverick mver threw for right under 2,000 yards 17 touchdowns and five interceptions 55% completion percentage um you know looking through the stats Axton I think the line is 30 around 35 34 34 and a half I just I don't see ACU being competitive enough offensively MH to score a bunch of points yeah physically so if you score your points which you have against FCS teams the last two times you played them uh now you struggled in the past but under Joey Maguire you've scored 52 at least against these FCS programs you should be able to cover would you would you take Texas Tech to cover in this game against ACU Regional rival ACU 32 and a half listen hey I agree they're they're in the ballpark all right I agree there's no one in our region at all okay so if you're close to our region can we just take rival and put it on there yes I mean hey I agree with you they made me sit in that closet of a press box for five straight years where Jamie and I are shoulder-to-shoulder sitting on one another for five hours doing baseball games yeah um apparently they're building a new Press Box yeah apparently oh God and not to mention the chicken wire in front of it and then another fence and then the back stop you're talking about get your eyes crossed um yeah you should be able to I I just think physically they won't be able to match up and then depthwise they won't be able to match up and then you know you have your your Ace in the Hole which is Taj Brooks which should chew up quite a few yards you don't want him to you know be the the lone guy obviously you want to you want to test out these skill guys because you that's one thing you were and Dire Straits fors skill players last year to just to get the ball to and make plays so um if you're if you're asking me right now I'm you know with all you don't to give me a score with all the pump and Circumstance that surr rounds it with the new End Zone and everything that's going on here in town um I feel like it'll be tough for abing Christian to overcome that uh they do have a pretty good returning linebacker uh Kirby Caley he had eight tackles for loss five and a half sacks nearly 50 tackles and three interceptions last year so he did a lot for the team but again this is not a team that has an abundance of of electric Talent returning uh as a as a down year last year I would say for ACU Keith pson also a defensive guy um you know if you're talking about well we expect Texas Tech to to score their points then yeah I don't see ABN Christian with more than 10 or 14 the last time Zack kitley matched up with Keith Patterson bayy zappy had like 600 yards they only scored 30 in a loss to Texas Tech at a Houston Baptist now Houston Christian driving to take the lead but they were driving to take the lead driving to take the lead in the for and that was uh they pretty much did whatever they wanted cuz I basically said the exact same thing that I just said this segment about Houston Baptist Christian oh yeah and uh uh it didn't quite go along that way that was uh first game after Co it was 2020 yep so and I think you you did like none of your the middle of Co but yeah none of your defensive backs I don't think practiced leading up to the game and that showed I think you'll be more prepared Scorch this time around and obviously you have Zack kitley this time and they have Keith Patterson but it'll be interesting playing time is not required this is the end of the bench podcast from 100.7 The Score all right win loss record gets Texas Tech in the Big 12 championship game uh 10 and two maybe some tie Breakers nine and three if you happen to drop a nonon well that's true I think a big 12 record of of six uh a seven and two probably gets you there at least in the conversation with some tiebreakers or whatever else um is shador Sanders a first round pick in the draft we's see what he does this year yeah I would say there's a decent chance today if the draft happened today yes um Travis Hunter can't be measured in games he missed three and a half if they lost those games by a touchdown or less you could certainly suggest he's an impact on both sides of the ball well they didn't lose him by a touchdown or less I guess a couple of them they did but what was the score half time with Stanford a couple of those 24 Z yeah I woke up I was shocked uh this in response to to Prime owning his losses yes kicking reporters out who has semi-critical questions and not taking questions from people who say you're the second worst coach in the Big 12 is really owning it it's a good point yeah I didn't want to go into detail but that's what I was talking about uh having a winning record in the Big 12 the water down Big 12 is nothing to brag about when you get blown out by UT that's agree to disagree on the Big 12 being watered down yeah I mean it's nobody else did it here yeah for 10 years 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 didn't happen and that's all in the new Big 12 the round robin Big 12 uh Joey's comments before the 23 season about the o line and dline being improved and the strengths of last year's team is the main thing he's really missed on I will say before last season he did say a lot more things but he's not he's been more reserved this year I just remember the quote of and again paraphrased you know if you go through that locker room and you tell somebody you don't you know we don't think you can win a National Championship you better be ready to to rumble or fight or something like that um yeah that wasn't they weren't quite ready for that prime time uh but they didn't start slow I mean it was 17 to nothing you just kind of got punched in the face there are yall installing a stage for Optimum Game Day live which is how I found y'all several years ago uh yes I believe so we'll be there on on a stage the alumni Pavilion Fraser alumni Pavilion facing Jones three years three played four games twice and uh seven games including a bowl game once it almost sounded like you said Chuck there though so be careful we've had Chuck forever yeah Chuck's been here there be more Colorado fans at the game then tech fans no if Colorado is undefeated when they play in lck there will be Colorado fans here uh a not g to happen B not more than tech fans I mean when Texas comes there's a good contingent of Texas fans but not more than tech fans there's never more of any other color than red it's not like TCU or SMU where you could have more Road fans than home fans in some ways there's a photo of a Oklahoma State game at TCU and there are huge sections of orange and it you can really tell Orange versus purple yep uh you just don't see that at Tech games unless Texas is in town but really even then it's not as noticeable as other Stadium I've always said you know talked about that with um the aowin center when Tech went in there with Bryson Williams and then Donis arms in that crew and um the the LFA game where he gave the code out and the lighting is so bad in that place that you couldn't really tell you now you could tell by sound like oh my gosh oh yeah that Roar was way louder than anything we've heard from Texas all day and the Roars continued and then once it got close to time for them to lose then you were like holy cow we had this place at 70% 65 70% would be my guess yeah of because now with all the burnt orange out I mean the Red Raider fans are going to stay there as long as they can you know because it's going to be a sweep party here we're about to sweep these guys um that's the famous year that beard came in and to hear first on February 1 and then yep went down there that Clos the Frank Irwin Center I think there's a stat out there that the the three or four highest attended events at the Frank Irwin Center are all focused around Red Raiders uh one is a basketball game with tech or one or two is a basketball game with tech the men's game and then the third is a John Denver concert so like three or four of the top five most attended things that the Frank arnson in our Texas Tech uh related uh this off the chat line I think this is the same guy he he has a runaround where he uh gets a new account every comment he says Benchwarmers does everything still run through loic you know what guy go touch some grass one time mcculler never did it teren Shannon never did it Tyler shuck hadn't said one I said some things when he was here but I've not bashed him since he left you were probably pretty pleased what he did have I bashed players and coaches while they were here I guess you could call it bashing in some semantical way but I I am like one thing to ponder now though too is it's still relatively new but when we start to see these pay stubs these guys are professional athletes now yes does it change at all how they are reacted to and communicated with if they don't perform I mean you look at Danny stman yesterday cut a $50,000 check to the Walk-Ons at the University of Oklahoma incredible had the ability yeah and the fundage to say guys go look in your lockers I've just divided up 50 grand for you guys and he's still got more now that's not I mean we're in a different era we're in a completely different era on these players they're they're now pro athletes for the most part not not the soccer girls probably but when we talking about the big football certainly men's basketball we're talking about some big dollars uh could Kirby Smart win at Tech yes yeah I mean if they recorded like
