welcome to the glass bowl in Toledo Ohio home to the Toledo Rockets a full houses in store and so too a terrific matchup in this one today two teams get set to square off in an inra conference battle in the AAC as we'll see a team looking for its first win the UL Monroe warhawks taking on the Toledo Rockets for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you along David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Music] [Music] started and the warhawks will kick it away first no chance for a return as that ball flies out of the back of the end [Music] zone the offense lining up for a first down Play We running back searching for a hole well they're trying to run the football there just nowhere to go they got dominated up front at the point of attack they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 to the air it's gleon they're bringing heat they get enough rush and it pays off a sack at the 20 and come on now o line you got to take care of your quarter he takes care of you he's the one who takes you to meals he's the ones that get you those nil deals everything happens through your quarterback you got to keep him upright that is your number one fires and picked off bringing it back he's at the 20 and he will roll into the end zone touchdown warhawks what a play by the defense coming out early in the game on the very first drive and setting the tone not just forcing a three and out not just just forcing a punt how about creating a turnover and taking it to the house pick six and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing score they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six no shot to return that one as he boomed it out of the back of the end zone too has the ball here comes the offense oh the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do happen so you've got to be able to turn the page here and Lead this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage after the incompletion it's second and 10 from their own 25 [Applause] misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air receiver looks it in it's complete they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first from the gun the ground game you're not getting him on the ground still on his his feet that defense got gas but they finally get him to the turf at the 47 and the rockets will line it up on First and 10 back to throw it's gleon got the Quick Pass finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down fresh set of downs after the completion try to get the edge with a quick touch pass and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play these touch passes it's so hard because there's always action off right if I fake this pass and I can run it up the gut or I can throw it and I just spread me out make me defend so many things you could tell they got on the edge quickly got the big first down wide receiver now comes in motion they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal they get him on the ground at the three yd line but this defense is taking some punches running backs Square their shoulders up is when they have the most power you see him Square his shoulders up break tackles be strong continue to plow his way forward just making it really easy on everybody in this offense by breaking [Applause] tackles slams ahead and he takes it in for the score touchdown too Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front and the extra point is no good no good and they're still down one almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown takes it inside the 25 chance for great field position and the coverage team able to wrestle him down first first down here for the [Music] [Applause] offense they'll give it to the back defense not budging he's still able to get two to the 29 and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knock backs and limiting his carries defense closed down quickly after a gain of three they'll mark it at the 32 and now on third down after that last run back to throw it's moty and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete and on money down defensively you got to find ways to affect the quarterback nice job by the defense getting the pressure getting to him getting a hit on him and forcing the incompletion and now forcing the fourth down this is an opportunity to show your offense you believe in them their opening drive of the game still in their own territory going for it on fourth down desperately wanted to convert on fourth down but couldn't do it aggressive you want to be aggressive you want to take chances and you tell your team about it all week and you come out you get an opportunity in the first half to to go for it on fourth down you you shot your shot the problem is now you put your defense in a bad situation early in this game where you're going to have to try to find a way to get a stop and create some moment first and 10 they're down to the 25 might as well give it to him again runs through a tackle blast his way ahead but not much room a pick up of one to the 24 quarterback will Audible [Applause] off play action the sweet feet keeping the Play Alive got it on the outside it's Stevens he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down [Music] [Applause] okay ready the rockets look to do some damage in the Red Zone from the shotgun now here's an inside GI and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown rocket this guy just has a nose for the end zone he love his ability to find creases use his speed in the open field and go score he's been really good for his offense early this year that already his fifth rushing touchdown on the season and the extra point is good and the lead is six about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stopped at the 21 [Applause] and U Monroe has it back in the offense ready to go to work he wants to start this drive with a pass he's going to throw deep right side and that'll be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter on first down but second down coming up couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they'd throw it again wants to throw it's booty coming after him and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes the warhawks will hustle to the line on third down he drops to throw he'll take a deep shot here and that pass picked off got some room to run the 30 and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick not all DBS make the play at the end right they they can bat the ball down they can be in position but they don't really secure the football great job by the DB securing the football and forcing the [Music] turnover guys let's see what Toledo can get done on offense this time Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing call yeah you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place on the option and the ball is free on the pitch defensive coordinators always preach swatting and batting at the football and trying to punch it out trying to dislodge the ball from the ball carrier and boy they did it right there this drive will get started from the 37 yd line they move the tight end all over going to the ground a confident bu efficient run gets it up to the 44 you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinat pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense takes the easy completion and after the stop that is going to put a bow on this first quarter third [Applause] down we've got this third down play to open the quarter back to pass it's moty he hurls one deep down the left side and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on man if you're going to win games you have got to hit on the home run tyght plays and that was a great opportunity right there the receiver has got to be able to look that football in and make the catch looking down the middle got his man and this Junior loves to show off that big arm and the warhawks have it with a first and 10 that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it now a fresh set of downs I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced he lost one down the sideline and the incomplete pass taking a shot on second down and they'll be left with a third down he had the Speedster loose and he just couldn't connect just a little too much juice on the pass yeah God those ones that you got a guy wide open a lot of times quarterbacks will tell you those are the ones you kind of like I I don't want to mess this up and you either put way too little on it or in this case way too much on it overthrow the speed that pass is well off Target he got hit as he was trying to throw and they can't convert on third down oh you know what time it is when the defense gets that stop on third down fist up in the air nice job getting to the quarterback putting some pressure on him hitting him forcing the incompletion fourth down baby and the quarterback stuck it right in the keyhole and they've got it down to the 30 yd line sometimes we don't give enough credit to a receiver knowing exactly where he needs to be on the field and they pick up the first down there yeah and you got to give the receiver credit obviously knowing where that is but the defender needs to know where it is too where is he trying to get that Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down need to just be a little bit more aware as a defensive guy got enough space they'll finally get him stopped at the one yd line what a run there the warhawks want to crank the tempo turning to the running game on first and goal really nice stop there from this senior leader second and goal for the offense barges ahead into the end zone he goes touchdown you El Monro I love running backs that have a nose for the goal line understand how to get there finish strong into the end zone know I get six and then go celebrate with your boys getting set for the point after the exra point and the extra point gives him the lead at 1413 and let's check in with Kevin Connor's in the studio Kevin lot of eyeballs on your game guys and a few on this interesting matchup as well Boston College is up big right now and what's shaping up to be a blowout they'll be talking about in Chestnut Hill for a long time they're up 14 over the Royals we've got our eye on this one and everything else going on throughout the day guys oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on him for us the Rockets offense is back on the field after that last drive he came back to the sideline and the coach probably said you dropped it you didn't pick it up come on get on the ball David no that's not what he said he said you're doing a great job just keep your head of yell yeah he got blasted you got to hold on the football Palmer turnovers to side games those are big plays it's tough on him too cuz he knows he let his offense down on that last drive so you know that guy's eager and anxious to come out here and make a play looking downfield it's G they're trying to get to it and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete I like the offensive idea here to try to change the launch point of the QB but you got to do a better job protecting him because guys can't complete passes when they're getting hit third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 and that is your job the o line has to protect the quarterback that's the most important position on the field you got to make sure you keep him upright you got to do do a better job this is going all in goalpost virtually tapping you on the shoulder heels almost in the end zone and you're going for it he's got it he'll get it up to about the 32 yd line before he stopped and in first down offense quick Tempo that is a huge play Early in this game we came into this thing wondering just how aggressive this offense wanted to be and there you go first half fourth and long we're not bringing the punter out on the field we've got a guy that we think can read the defense and deliver a strike and we've got Playmakers stretching the field vertically they show you how dangerous they can be on that last fourth down there b a man miss really good pick up on second down there leaves him with third and two keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game the clock has reached the two-minute Mark and they have a chance to at least cut into this lead before the break here on third down for this offense the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment they'll try to get it through the air now adjusting trying to find his man in the middle he's got it downfield for a huge game and he'll run into the End Zone touchdown too and tight ends do so much for your offense they block like crazy you pull them you use them all over the place and when you got a guy that can do this it's just a cherry on top of the Sunday making big plays going half the field plus to get the big touchdown and he puts through the extra point about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown no chance return that one a booming kickoff out of the back of the end zone it's a [Music] [Music] Touchback guys we'll see what this war hawk offense can get done this time the way this game started you feel as if you have to score a touchdown every time you have it and now we'll see if they can respond yeah and I wonder how much pressure that puts on the offense Jesse like you know this is back and forth and I got to score and every possession matters so much what does that do to you as a quarterback well it puts a lot more pressure on you for sure to feel like I got to make every third down throw if guys are open vertically down the field I got to hit them too we can't let our serve get broken couldn't ask for much more there a first down and they're down to the 42 here's this offense with a fresh set of downs M off the play fake on first down to throw can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down quarterbacks need time when they're in the pocket to complete throws that QB had no shot after taking that hit after the misfire now on second down [Applause] they're going to throw it again feeling some heat he looks that one in nicely he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the location of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch and sticking to the well I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell movement here from the tight end right back to the well and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop I think you run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success long third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw the ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down the offense will stay on the field and go for it on fourth down two for three so far in this one he'll try to throw and pick up the first down got it in the middle it's Bailey and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down they convert the fourth down but back to the line with no time to waste it's complete to the right not much working there it'll be second and nine going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone getting some heat and the pass rush is effective and they tackle him at the 19 there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a Little Closer [Applause] they'll snap it for the 10th time on this drive but they need a chunk on Third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch they're working that left side and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down there's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half on fourth down they'll try to throw it couldn't find his man and they'll give up the football on down oh that St man you you did a great job calling the play you got your guy open everything was executed perfectly the ball hits him in the hands and he just can't bring it in man those are tough those are tough to swallow drop back it's gleon he turns that loose down the right side it's complete a huge pickup we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays one more snap coming before halftime we trying to find his man on first down caught over the middle it's they make the tackle at the 33 but he's ripped off 15 yds and picked up a first [Music] down and as the clock is winding down here in the first half they'll send out the field goal team no good the lead is still six after the Miss that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the half time update [Music] 14 and the rockets will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half [Applause] coming out with it it's Evans not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 you Monroe has it back on the offense ready to go to work they start this third quarter one possession game and hoping to get an early drive going this offense is ready and they're ready to take the field here and see if they can get something established they don't have to change everything and reinvent the wheel they've had some successes in the first half so let's get that continued here on the opening drive yeah and I love getting that break at half to go talk with my coaches and pick my offensive coordinator's brain so I know exactly what I need to do to attack this defense and I get ball [Applause] first got three on first down it's second and seven looking downfield it's moty got his man on the right still running at the 40 nothing but green ahead and he ran away from the crowd and he'll take it in touchdown warhawks man how hard is it to defend when you have a weapon like this at running back that can play wide receiver you can design ways to get the football in his hand Palmer once you get in his hands he'll do the rest yeah no doubt I mean and well often times those are easier throws for quarterbacks these running backs they're just naturally so good when they have the football out in space their Vision their creativity their ability to make people miss and this guy showed you right there a difficult difficult guy to stop now for this defense and the returner is stopped too has the ball here comes the offense we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be moralizing yeah and it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for it more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish Stronger Yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get closer and closer down to the end zone one back in the back field he gets the carry they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he sought was the ball carrier yeah great job great Feld linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys are using a 245 lbs of hit seeking Miss and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker he just didn't have a chance to get loose and make his way to that first down marker I think fans get upset sometimes like run your route past the sticks so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and for in the fourth down on fourth down they'll pass for it makes a catch past the sticks turns out to be an easy conversion for this offense as they move the chains on fourth down the definition of four down territory has changed over the last few years extended into their own territory there anywhere everywhere just look at the card right that card supposed to tell us what to do but n maybe I'll go for it anyways this offense took a little bit of a Gable but they get the first down to worry about got to give the defense credit watching film anticipating they knew that this offense had this play in their back pocket they knew about the speed of this wide receiver in different ways they were going to try to get him involved everybody on defense on the same page playing together I love it he's going for it all what a snag by the defense he'll try to take it back and they capitalize not only on the pick but on the great return to improve this field position if you don't have good Vision you're not going to be a middle of the field safety you got a lot of ground to cover from hash to Hash you better be able to see the quarterback you better be able to see routes and break on the football nice job seeing the formation seeing the route breaking on it and making the interception we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them one dimensional putting in passing situations really good job by the [Applause] defense and a good solid pick up for the defense Cuts him down I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up for a good third down on Third and short they'll try to convert through the air and they took a shot on that one but couldn't make the connection it's incomplete defense did a great job third and short on the opponent's side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion this is the absolute right call they're going for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down finds his man and they convert and this junior quarterback shows you why the scouts love that big B arm of his and they are showing you their intentions early in the game it's fourth down you're in your own end we're going to be aggressive and we're not just going to do this early we're going to and the defense will Coral the quarterback and down he goes at Midfield been a little bit of a seesaw here the last two plays offense gets a chunk play and then the defense gets a sack great job by the defense there turning the page and coming up with the big one looking to throw it's booty he's got his man there to make the Stop and we played three in this one that's the end of the third quar of the score UL 21 [Applause] Toledo back on the field after the break and we'll start the quarter here on third down 325 they'll try to get the first through the air it's caught and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving and you just get the feeling that this defense has to find a way to get off the field and get the football back at this juncture of the game trailing late if they're going to win using the quick game headed to the end zone touchdown you El Monroe what a grab and go for the score number yeah and he did a really good job selling this dropping back to pass waiting a little bit of time and giving his running back a chance to run down the field he runs the Reel route he's open throws a strike gets in for the touchdown we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on Kevin guys two very different emotions inside the locker rooms of those top 15 teams who did battle today Missouri dug down deep and found a way to secure a coveted Road win and who knows how the pundits will view this one but I'll tell you this it sure beats trying to explain a bad loss iron sharpens iron and you just know a top 15 matchup like this he's going to go a long way anding the story of each of these team seasonings Kevin thanks a lot for that one sounds as if they had a good one there guys let's see what Toledo can get done on offense this time one of the most valuable things a quarterback can have David short term memory just forget that last pick you're dang right clear the mechanism it's over mve it behind some players can't do that real well and it leads to more mistakes Jesse you got to just forget about it move on and I think the coaching staff can help him too David I think you can get the running game going here and also give him some easy throws they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 give to the back and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down to the air on first down flushed out of the pocket just couldn't find an open man he'll get rid of it and it'll be second down a nice job by the quarterback there you're outside the pocket nobody's open so you throw the ball away knowing that you still have more chances to get this first down after the incompletion it's second down looking to pass it's bleon pocket starts to collapse On The Run still looking and the ball's on the ground the defense pounced on that now they're headed the other Way open space at the 25 touchdown warhawks not content to get the fumble they scored with the fumble they've built a little cushion and now closer to getting a victory here in week four and I love the way they break on the football swarm to the football this is why you do it because sometimes the ball comes out the linebacker picks it up and tell you what the big fella shows some speed takes it all the way back for six and the extra point is good they're out there to kick it off the return team must rivet that ball to their rib cage can't afford another [Applause] turnover not going to get a return here they'll bring it out to the 25 a kickoff sail through the back of the The End [Music] [Applause] Zone the Rockets offense is back on the field Wass to throw on first down going to take a shot and the DB right with him to knock it away it's great for this quarterback to take shots down the field but you just don't want it to feel like a give up or a Chuck it up and hope kind of play and I think understanding the situation now I'm on defense right if they're going to take shots down the field maybe I'm a little bit more aggressive with my Blitz understanding that everything's going to take a little bit more time to develop if they're going to take those deep shots the Rockets moving quickly to the line I think if you're the head coach at this point you're telling your offense it doesn't matter what's happened up to this point of the game obviously things haven't gone our way but we have a CH and he breaks into the open he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense man this offense is so dangerous re they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels maybe this will breathe a little life into this offense which has been flatlined in the second half here's first first and 10 fires to the middle and he throws his third pick of the day his head has to be spinning God room on the return and they capitalize not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position it doesn't get any better for your defense you know exactly the situation in the fourth quarter everything in your favor don't let him make big plays how about you make a big play nice job getting the interception it's not icing on the cake yet but it's getting pretty close guys we'll see what this Warhawk offense can get done this time this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they've wanted to do build the lead now Palmer is a different animal now you got to protect it you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now on the same page they'll run it trying to drain time off the clock nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible let's see what they do on third down 29 Phil back to pass it's Moody pressure coming and it's incomplete on third third down yeah third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three prints on the board they already have a comfortable lead up by multiple possessions but they're going to go for it here on fourth down fires to the wide out the incomplete pass fourth down fails and they'll turn it over yeah I'm not sure why they went for it but when you're up by a couple scores I think you're just kind of free and like hey let's keep scoring for let's keep the offense out there let's keep the accelerator on and I guess hey who cares we're not going to lose anyways he'll let it go down the right side and it is another interception just a terrible struggle for this quarterback taking it the other way touchdown U El Monroe and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house these guys are really hitting their stride in week four as they push out that lead he'll try to tack on one more exra point and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling it if you can do that I don't know why you don't do it reduced the risk banged it out of the back of the end zone they'll put it in play at the 25 [Music] too has the ball here comes the offense it has been a rather forgettable day that's finally coming to a close David yeah it's been an awful day I mean just not not functioning well on offense defense giv up a lot of points this is a day Palmer they'll like to forget yeah you're going to find out a lot about their character right now obviously not what they hoped this would be and that's demoralizing for a lot of these kids that have worked really hard and practice all week but at this point here you're just trying to prove your coaching staff that you're not going to quit he wants a big play here late and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built the momentum this is this is one of those days you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to like but hopefully you can learn from it and do better next time finally run out of bounds but he has his offense rolling with a first down and the rockets come to the line with a fresh set of downs unloads to the wide out incomplete he had to get rid of it before he wanted to the defense put the heat on and this defense has put a game together like it is hard to put all the facets of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man dialed in you could tell they were ready they were fast they were physical they dominated this football game oh the Freshman lucky that one didn't get picked off offenses should focus on their guys and making sure so and so guys get so and so touches and you know listen they're featuring this guy they're going to throw to him he's going to be the primary target a lot of times I can't be Reckless but I definitely have to find my way to get that that guy the ball fires into traffic picked off takes it the other way he's at the 30 oh that was a terrific return as he takes it to the nine heat up them pass rushers bringing them DBS that's what I'm doing in this situation when I got the lead by a couple scores late in the ball game in the fourth quarter I'm going to rush the passer like crazy I'm going to put all those DBS back playing the pass that's what happened great job understanding they're going to have to take shots we get the interception this one's almost [Applause] over running out the clock a mere formality between them and a victory as we have Victory formation [Applause] coming it's still third and goal the defense still has a couple of timeouts at its disposal but down a couple of possessions the offense will take a knee guys this is a really good win for this ball Club as they put together consecutive victories and in this season that's what you got to do you got to put together good weeks build on each other build that momentum continue to grow as the season goes on yeah David it's all about building confidence and it's really important for these players to go out work hard in practice and see that hard work really pay itself off on game day this is a team that's really starting to
