welcome everyone to the home of the Charlotte 49ers Jerry Richardson stadium and the fans have been filling this one up in anticipation of this Clash what we have in store today a clash between a pair of AAC squads as we'll see the two- a Greenway taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the Charlotte 49ers for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up the 49ers will kick it away to start here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so tain's offense will get the first possession of the game and here's the man they want to get the ball to in this passing game this is the type of receiver David when he's covered he's still open I'm still he's still putting that hand up in the air coach I'm still open and more importantly his quarterback knows that they're going to move him all over the field they're going to feature him on offense they're going to make sure he gets a lot of touches whether he's open or whether he's open cuz he's always open looking deep down the right side and the DB making a huge play knocking it away downfield the incompletion leads to Second and 10 from the gun the running back has it stopped after a pick up of four good run to get it out from the 34 after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again neutral on defense neutral zone in fraction will push the ball up five yds that penalty puts the defense in a bind it'll be third and one they'll try to power their way ahead looks as if that'll be enough for a two-lane first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs first the on the move it's Hughes a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior after picking up a couple at second and eight from the gun they'll try to impose their will and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs out of the gun they'll run it inside we give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up went to the running game on first down now here they come again the give to the right nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry now the eight play of the opening drive but this time facing third and long Thompson to throw finds a tight end and I love the discipline on defense right there big third down so everyone keeping their eyes on the quarterback rallying to the ball making a tackle great team defense able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 so the Charlotte 49ers offense has the ball for the first time first down here for the offense from the gun running back on the move not much there picks up a couple to the 22 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down trying to impose their will with the Run gets it out to the 25 yd line a gain of three offense breaks the h on third down that's the end we've reached the end of the first quarter and it has been a defensive battle and the stats tell the tal so far let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second so they're facing third and short from the 25 from the gun wants to pass going to throw it to the right he's got his man he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense on the ground with the counter you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense it's rever first that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five here they come facing third and long from the 40 off play action and the defense gets to the quarterback play action pass success has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play the 49ers will bring the punt team onto the field he'll call for the fair catch here the Tain offense headed back onto the field they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to start it with the first play you need to be successful and productive on that first play and it get you in less predictable situations no doubt too don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board here they finally get him on the ground but the big running play moves to change for the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs comes out throwing on first down lets it Fly he's got it inside the 30 he's thr it all the juice the Jets the moves and he's got it down to the 16 yd line all right defense are going to have to hone in here you're going to have to turn the page just gave up a big pass but all of a sudden the offense now is knocking on your doorstep they're in the Red Zone this defense they need to step up here and make a play here Comes Tain after picking up the first down caught in the back field it's Williams and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few we'll take a quick break here two minutes to play in the first half he's looking for a man on second down he's got his man they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall they're going to throw it again and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown Green Wave and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum on your side and they do it they finish it with the passing game and I tell you what heat that passing game up you can keep this lead keep the momentum and keep putting up numbers P unit on the field for the extra point and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio two very different emotions inside the locker rooms of these teams who did battle today FIU was able to cap off a close one inside Silva stadium with a narrow Victory and that's the mark of a solid program pile up wins build on games like these and remain focused on the big picture it's one game you don't want to react too much either way but I think both teams will leave this one with some things to work on moving forward yeah how about that sounds as if they had a good ball game there Kevin thanks for the update fires to the wide out makes a connection a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half they're going to go to the air on Third and short nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away and the 49ers will like enough to PL it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and he's going to get it up to about the 29 yd line before he's brought down Twain has it back in the offense coming out to go on the attack they've got some time to work with here Jesse and if they get a first down they might really get aggressive and the ball is picked off didn't get a ton on the return but the most important thing he got the ball and they've got it at the 48 what a big gamechanging play I love when you see defensive players they jump on the ball like they were the offensive guys so aggressive going and getting that pick creating some big Mojo for your team looking for a productive play on first down Brown wants to pass quickly complete love the location of the throw on that slant pass put it out in front of the receiver put it on his face mask so he can catch it and try to advance on second down he's looking down field and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage they'll hurry to the line here to try to get off that third down play caught near the sticks it's Thomas a quick tackle made but he's got ready for the first down that's another Charlotte looking to move it through the air here he goes breaking the pocket quarterback tried to scramble around for a while but the defense able to bring him down here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half couldn't find anyone open here and he'll live to fight another play it'll be third down I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop form to kick it away fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and that one will find its way into the end zone for a Touchback we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update thanks guys a first half that saw a little bit of everything there in Charlotte and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Jerry Richardson St he'll start the return inside his five and good work by the coverage team to knock down the Return Man first 10 he'll start the third quarter with the Run they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole and knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 now facing a third and long brown will throw it going to try to pop one on the screen and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short the 49ers will try to pin them back with the punt they'll get down and put a stop to this return they'll mark it at the 32 the Tain offense headed back onto the field well let's see if this drive goes better than the last one they were in and out quickly after the quick pick David yeah first play big mistake man now let's get this offense in a little bit of a rhythm maybe before you open it up again Palmer or do you trust him right away uh he seems to me like the guy maybe that just needs to kind of get into the flow of the game so maybe you get the running game going here and just give him some easy looks to let him get lathered now on first down from the 43 yd line 43 and that's good enough for a first down looking for room it's Hughes able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down after the productive first down play it's second and six pulls it and fires to the left and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain here on third down it's third down gives it to the back on the draw he's got enough to move the chains and they'll spot it at the 47 this two-lane offense has a great drive going to the air on first down unloads to the right it's complete they are on the move down to the 32 and they pick up another first down 32 he wants to throw got it in the middle it's Preston and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line makes his connection oh better check some ankles he makes a move and gets down to the 24 guys the quarter comes to a close and two lane has the lead here and as we switch ends of the field let's take a quick look at the national rankings one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory Here Comes third and short from the 24 and this offense does not want to send out the field goal unit dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down tane looking to put one on the board from the red zone for the trying to cap this drive with the pass gets it out quickly and he might be known for one pits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end second down wide out in motion quick touch pass to the receiver One Step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground boy they'd love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal third and long and he'll try to throw for it just threw that one away to avoid disaster so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot never a doubt and that will extend their lead even further and three more on the board and this kicker has starting to get a reputation starting off the season hasn't missed yet nice to have a guy that you can really really after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away to kick it he'll bring it back from inside his SP he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field their Drive chart is starting to look a little monotonous punt punt punt David and their defense is starting to get a little frustrated too they just keep putting me back on the field possession after possession Jesse this offense needs to get their heads out of there you know what the punter's on the sideline with the oxygen mask right now he's been playing so much he's not used to this this offense they just got to stay on the field they got to put a drive together and and get some balance going running and throwing the ball on Third and short they'll ride the running back here he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short on fourth down trying to find his man grab near the marker it's Olen good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch this is the moment for the this offense to put a drive together it doesn't matter what's happened up to the point of this game but and they got him for the sack and the 49ers will hustle to the line Second down coming Brown wants to pass just a short pass to the tight end tackled immediately after the catch they're going to keep this drive going they'll have to make a play on Third and long from the 26 he's looking downfield to throw complete downfield and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and even though they're trailing here in the fourth quarter they've got a quarterback that can bring them back but they need him now to play his A+ level of football we saw a nice completion on that last third down let's see if he can keep it going the 49ers will snap it on First and 10 you know you just can't coach toughness and quarterbacks this guy's been sacked multiple times in this one and on that last play he gets drilled again but he deliver time running out and he goes down at the 34 that is the last thing you want on first down as an offensive sack now it's second down trying play action how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion they'll snap it for the 10 time on this drive but they need a chunk on Third and long getting some heat quickly out to the tight end and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down down by multiple possessions you can't come up empty on this drive they'll go for it on fourth down it's incomplete and they desperately needed to keep that drive going and they couldn't make the connection turn they keep it on the ground clock is their friend and they try the middle of this defense and that is not happening ordinarily on second and 10 you might look past but here you just want to keep that clock moving and off from the shotgun he stopped again they went right back to him and he still found no Running Room at all timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch first down here for the offense he'll start this drive firing and the ball is intercepted God room on the return and he's going to take it all the way back touchdown Green Wade as they push that lead out a really good opportunity to get back in the wind column really nice drive by this offense this is a top 10 defense this is a challenge they're going to make everything difficult so when you can make some plays against this defense you got to absolutely take advantage create some momentum for your squad nice drive by this offense they'll try to add another to their lead for the extra point and that extra point is a big one as they now have a thre possession 17-point lead in the fourth they are lining up up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling it really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field they'll throw it on first down grabbed in the middle it's Thomas and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play another Charlotte they'll throw it on first down got out of trouble got rid of it and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball after the misfire now on second down Brown will throw it looking to the big tight end he makes a catch they get him on the ground but it's a first down everybody has to be set they have to get it off the offense just chooses to spike the ball second down coming up he's looking to throw finds his man it's Thomas he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down he's looking to throw it fires to the right all kinds of room to throw that one in there they get him down but this offense is set up first and goal from the nine that's another shotte quick snap and a spike to stop the clock defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw they're trying to get to it that ball is intercepted at the goal line and they capitalize not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position the number one objective for a defense is to make the offense onedimensional well when they're trailing by this much late in the game they're onedimensional they have to pass the football we can bring more speed on the field you see it we know you're throwing the football nice break on the football nice interception this one's almost over running out the clock a mere formality between them and a victory as we have Victory formation coming and with things in their favor on the scoreboard the quarterback's favorite play in The Playbook the old kneel down from Victory formation well after backto back losses this team is really teetering on the edge of disaster they got to try to hold on to the positives as hard as that is to do right now having lost a couple back to back because this team has good players and they've got good schemes on both sides of the ball just things have not gone their way they just need to make a few more plays to turn this thing yeah and and they can do it and they will do it listen you you got to get the players right you got to get those guys in there believing um this is part of what happens you got to take a few lumps sometimes take those losses
