guys let's te this one up the Golden Gophers will get us started with the opening kickoff he'll start the return inside his spot nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 so the record Scarlet Knight's offense will take the first swing of the game here he comes com and any time this guy touches the ball and he will touch it plenty a bolt of electricity just goes through the stadium David and they'll feature him they'll give him the ball like you said a lot early often and he's a guy that can make gamebreaking plays the offense is built around his ability to run the football Jesse make big plays for this offense yeah he really shoulders the low right in more ways than one the offense goes as this guy goes so what's going to be important in this one they get him going early in off four wide receivers on second and short guys a whole Playbook at their disposal a pick up of five Mar it at the 36 yd line well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run got a man in the middle nice pick up there gets him the first down and sets him up at the 45 y line if you're going to attack and have success against man covers then you've got to have great timing between the quarterback and the wide receiv really nice Rapport you could tell these two have been spending a lot of time this off seon throwing to one another find space on the right big pick up before he goes out of bounds but there is a flag we'll have to [Applause] see so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty line gets set first down give to the running back shakes off the defender they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks and the Scarlet Knights headed quickly to the line out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back tackled but he has first down and already this guy is leaving his mark on this game opening drive backto back runs where he's found away to get positive yards he was able to pick up the First on that last carry they should keep feeding in the football the more success they have it's going to open up the Play action game he brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up the first thing you have to do to make these play successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my speeder in space they didn't do a good job job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackle that guy for a loss they'll line up for a second down play they'll try the run runs through a tackle they get him stopped at the 30 but not before he gets five yards I think tackling is about effort most of the time it's about how much passion how much physicality you can bring to get your guy on the ground refuse not to get him on the ground that's not a big back you got to get that guy on the ground you can't let him pick up an extra couple yards and stay ahead of the [Applause] sticks coming to the line of scrimmage at the 30 it would be a long field goal but they'd love to pick up a few here on Third and long quarterback checking the play on third down he drops the throw oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down yeah and third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board [Applause] [Applause] they've decided to try to go for the field goal here he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 ydd out well this team knew coming into tonight's game they had to get momentum early playing at home they want to get the crowd into it so you get a beautiful drive here to start this thing you would have liked to cap it off with a touchdown but listen set yourself up for a field goal you not it through the upright you got the lead everything right now looking good after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go and no chance at a return here they'll start this drive at their own 25 so Minnesota offense will try to get something going with their first possession and these two electrifying Runners can put on a show guys we always talk about the importance of tackling on defense never more so than a game like this when you've got two studs in the back that can make people look silly you better bring hats to the football yeah and you think there'll be a lot of carries today when when you got running backs like this that you can feature you're going to see them get the football a lot early and often not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 to the ground with the back and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage well I'm sure there are a lot of emotions a homecoming of sorts as he comes back to the place where he played as the head coach of the opposition you know it holds a special place in his heart and he's right and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 and the Golden Gophers will try to pin them back with the punt doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt first one of the day is booted away they ran him out there four times in the victory last week and the punt team gets down there and gets the Return Man on the ground and the ruter offense heads back onto the field they've got the lead here last time they set him for a field goal but David got to find that balance between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got to take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then explore not a whole lot of room there on that screen passes it just never developed a third down try for the offense from the gun wants to pass fire is deep toward the end zone oh and he dropped it he had a touchdown right in his hands and couldn't hang on it'll be fourth down there is nothing to gain by kicking it away in this area of the field around Midfield going for it the wise move on fourth down looking for the completion it as he throws this time he's got his man he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch the Scarlet Knights come to the line with a new set of downs wide receiver shows motion they keep attacking through the air and the pass is intercepted bringing it back the interception stopped the threat and the return even better as he crosses Midfield and gets it to the 49 as a quarterback you've got to give your receiver an opportunity to make the play you got to put the ball on his body that throw gets away a little bit from the QB and that leads to the tip in the interception the Minnesota offense is headed back onto the field after a punt on their last possession they are set up in plus territory this time and honestly it wouldn't have mattered if this s a touchdown their last possession you've got to be able to turn the page and see this as a brand new opportunity to go get points yeah and your defense has set you up for a position to get points right away now let's get this offense back rolling again create some momentum just get a few first downs and I'm in scoring position they've got it at the 36 it's a first and 10 to the ground he's got it again and they Tred the middle of this defense and that is not happening how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 caught in the back field it's Spencer they make the stop but the sweet throw catches plenty to give him a first down and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the location of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch it's now first and 10 from the 24 yd line looking to throw it's brosmer fires to the middle he's got it on the run defense makes a stop but the change move and it's first and goal from the eight great job by the offense listen if the defense is going to sit back in zone you know what you got to do run those crossers across the formation those guys that they're looking at the quarterback they're not trying to pick up receivers all the time make he's got it in the endone gold go one of the areas they really focused on with this receiver in the off season was we need you to make more plays for us in the end zone and we're taking shots we need to be able to step up and make tough catches and dve what a grab right there and I think a lot of that has to do with trusting your guy knowing where he's going to be knowing when he's going to sit down when he's not so being on the same page and then having a guy that can go get just when the ball is near him he's going to make the play just like he did right there for six points ruter has it back they'll send the offense back onto the field boy they hope this next Drive is more productive after throwing a pick last time Jesse Yeah and the coaches did a good job on the sideline there just talking to the Young quarterback and making sure he's able to turn the page calm him down to go out and refocus this drive yeah and some people do that better than others but you got to show some trust in him maybe get the ground game going help around him a little bit with this system line getting set on second down he's looking to throw fires to the right complete downfield what a play by this offense finally out of bounds and a perfect play to wrap up the first quarter that's going to do it for the quarter and Minnesota has the lead here we've played one before we move on let's have a look at the stats now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter back at it to open the quarter with this first down play [Applause] wide receiver now comes in motion looking for a physical attack from the gun nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on ones and force a tackle for a just too much juice on that one as he air mails his receiver out of bounds nice job by the defense there taking all throws away from the quarterback he had nowhere to put that football in the field to play so that ball obviously had to go out of bounds on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the sticks and that'll be incomplete they certainly weren't afraid to take a shot there and now it's fourth down and the Scarlet Knights decide to P it away here's the fair Catch and he'll make it close to the 20 yd line Minnesota has it back in the goer offense is headed onto the field and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here from the gun they'll give it on the inside just what they were looking for to get this drive rolling they out to the 35 and that is exactly why you stick to running the football haven't had a lot of success but boom you pop one right that's what you got to do you got you cannot become onedimensional and just throwball every down love the offense sticking to the run as CH get the first down wow what a big play by that Defender and how about the hit St tackle woo that ball carrier is going to remember that after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 to the air it's brosmer he's going to let one fly down the middle he's got it downfield for a huge game he got loose almost house at finally dragged down at the 32 what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting downhill and getting in the back field and make a tackle for a l looking to throw on second down excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away you know it's so important for Corners to be able to transition right you got to have real loose hips you got to be able to change direction on a dime and in zone coverage you see the ball thrown you can break on it and force incompletions like that pocket starts to collapse and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion now looks as if they'll settle for the field goal try looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt it's good he hit that one right down the middle and let's check in with Kevin Conor in in the studio Kevin all right guys a little update on what else is happening in college football this weekend New Mexico state is down but they are not out of it not inside agie Memorial Stadium one of the more fun places to watch a game in all of college football they're trailing by 10 to Western Kentucky we've got our eye on things here and everything else going on right now and any updates you'll see them here and how about that one will be keeping an eye on everything going on elsewhere and they thought about a return and thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 and the ruter offense heads back onto the field they've been pretty much stifled on offense so far David only able to muster three points in their previous three drives and you got to find a way to open this up and create some explosive plays like the passing game is obviously the easiest way Jesse put more speed on the field find those guys down the field you know frustrated too because they felt like there were some matchups they could take advantage of to get some points on the board early and this one they just haven't been able to connect on those opportunities but I like David's idea maybe move some guys around and see if you can create some better one-on-one matchups here comes the offense on first down makes the grab it's Monaga yeah and you see running backs in today's football they play wide receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently from the gun running back on the Move pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 this offensive line better figure out a plan for this deep tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last wants to throw on third down finds a spot in the middle and he gets it to the 44 yd line it'll be a first down the Scarlet it's come to the line with a fresh set of downs he makes the connection can't get him to the ground he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down and here comes the offense on second down and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch and the Scarlet Knights moving quickly to the line ever since they invented the pass the tight ends have been running the drag and getting the first down I think it's because the tight ends is so much versatil you know they can block and stay in the formation or they can release and come out but either way when quarterback's patient most of the time that drag route's going to come over how about this they go empty on second and two now the quarterback changing the original play call on second down they'll take to the air it's complete and and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains this first half of offense won't go on the Highlight Reel so far starting to get things moving it's first a shot toward the end zone and he's got it touchdown Scarlet KN and wait just a second the officials going to take a second look at this one so the officials take a closer look and the replay Booth will overturn the call it's hard for a def to have to cover so much space when the offense goes empty you get receivers and tight ends and running backs lined up out wide You' got to expand and it's harder to cover on the back end third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy looking for the End Zone pass on the way it's picked off this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision the Minnesota offense is headed back onto the field man how comforting is it to know that even if your offense stalls out a little Jessie that field goal kicker can knock it in from the long way out well he's one of the best in the country no doubt but this offense would like him and prefer for him to kick an extra point on this drive and to do that David they've got to have more Rhythm on offense yeah create some more Rhythm create some more explosive plays and maybe some more balance and listen it's nice to have that weapon and kick long field goals you kick too many field goals you don't get very many W's back to throw it's brosmer it's on Target and complete he makes the tackle at the 33 after a pick up of five the new popular phrase for a favored team not really coming out of the guge quickly is that they're playing with their food there a lot of peas being pushed around the plate right now guys yeah ree they've been stumbling around they've been making mistakes and shooting themselves pulls it in on the right running toward the tap touchdown Minnesota and once he got loose it was all over defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game they've got to shore up their play in the back half not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch ruter has it back they'll send the offense back onto the field not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive he off one deep down the left side and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't re it in the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment he's not afraid to go deep and it slips through his finger incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it and the offense clearly saying we want to take those deep shots we want to be aggressive and and I think that's a good strategy because makes the defense really and this sophomore able to reach some havoc and get the sack timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down well this head coach is clearly sending a message not sure what it is but he's going for it close to his own End Zone on fourth down trying to find his man and the incomplete pass turns it over in their own end Minnesota has it back in the Gopher offense is headed onto the field looking for a productive play on first down looking to throw it's brosmer they're trying to get to it hit hard just as he released it on first down just couldn't get it to the receiver after the Miss fire it's second and 10 he's looking to throw fires to the right and that ball is intercepted at the goal line and he's brought down after the pick but not before putting his offense in business if you want to look on the bright side at least you can pile up a bunch of yards if you can move the ball because it is a long way to the end zone going up top on first down going to let it fly and it's incomplete they were looking for the huge gain on first down after the misconnection it's second down he's looking to throw he's got it and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half looking to go up top on first down and he grabs it at the 15 and they are pushing the ball down the field a big pick up on that one and the tackle is finally made they'll throw it on first down on the Run still looking it's complete to the right touchdown reord a great catch and run for six and with the extra point they close it to 1710 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the score comes on a 12yd touchdown [Applause] pass returner will field it and try to get some field position not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Minnesota offense is headed back onto the field they've got time they've got the lead and David is sort of like a doctor first Do no harm Do no harm but also momentum is hard to create and sometimes hard to stop you have it so just and the defense makes a play sacking him back at the 10 we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break they're going to get anything going on this drive they better be productive here on second and long from the 10 really nice stop there from this senior leader and sticking to the Run tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really St and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell picks up just a few before he's brought down not really willing to take a risk there on Third and long that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update all right guys looks like we've got a great scen there today in Piscataway they lining up to boot it [Applause] away from a couple of yards deep he'll bring it out that gamble did not pay off as they bring him down at the 12 yd line Minnesota has it back and the Gopher offense is headed onto the field they had this lead to start the third quarter because of the passing game didn't get a lot done on the ground they did quarterback is in a rhythm that was obvious in the first half and so this first drive you want to continue that you want to see good decision making you want to see him playing on time and as always delivering the football I I mean I don't know how I don't give him the football it's the reason I built the lead he's the guy that I trust this offense has built around him so I expect more of the same here in the second half from the shotgun the hand off to the back discards him with the stiff arm run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs Red Pass it's complete they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down and I love what slot receivers you see so much of that that's about matchups right I can put a fast guy in that slot maybe get match linebacker of safety I like working those guys in those matchups favorable for the offense for sure catch in the middle it's Jackson I love when you sell the run like that quarterback did right there stuck it in the belly of the running back pulls it out runs the play action great job of confusing the defense a little bit making him honor the run and then throwing the ball in the lanes right behind him across the 25 he's got R and he uses a stiff arm to push his way past the sticks and pick up the first downs I'll tell you the defense is going to have to do a much better job containing these outside run plays they better be able to funnel the football back to the middle of the field because this guy with his speed can kill you like he did on that outside Run play there to the left and he's knocked down but there's also laundry on the field we'll see what the officials have called they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one a first down for the offense used the play fake now to throw got him down field they'll finally put the braks on him at the three a big throw catch and run on that one and when this quarterback is in a rhythm this offense is really hard to stop you've seen that on this drive he's three for three but they're also running the ball well everything they're dialing up right now is working with the Run first and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown golden goer you know this offense knew coming into the season it was so important for this guy to stay healthy they needed him week in week out because he plays at such a high level and he's showing it here that last carry was his 10th rushing touchdown of the Season no return coming he'll call for the fair Catch and the Ruckers offense heads back back onto the field now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid he lobs one high down the left side and it's caught inside the 25 touchdown State University of New Jersey made the grab and finish the deal in the end zone and the extra point is good as they close within a touchdown 247 the throw by the QB there when you're throwing to running backs you got to make it easy on them so you want to put it right on their body make the catch simple and let them go to work like they did just now it's second and goal from the five he'll run it to the middle looking for the End Zone Relentless tough running gets it down to the four and this offense trying to be physical inside the 5yd line I get it but I tell you what PA this quarterback has earned some Trust From Me with the day he's had right now he's thinking put the game in my hands I'm playing well and I'm seeing the defense well I see what they're doing from a coverage standpoint count on me to throw a touchdown here and help out our team third and short in college football today you see so much more pass than you used to the offense stays aggressive and I think they stay aggressive because they know they're in field goal range they got that three in their back pocket right down the boulevard it's good and that lead grows points on the drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab man I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the receiver and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution and the defense holds per no pick up at all on that play lining up trying to convert this third and short from the 40 to the ground to try to move the chains and let's [ __ ] go hold it baby really good job by the defense understanding the what Minnesota what never mind never mind know it's because they're not receivers you really got to be perfect with the ball placement you got to make that a catchable throw a little bit too tough for the RB on that one right down the middle how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy has had throwing the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any a shot toward the end zone and it's caught touchdown record they add on another score and now that record oh so close to going to eight and one on the season salt in wound right late in the fourth quarter you can run the football run this game out no sir I'm going to continue to pad my stats find my receiver out wide and give me another touchdown andely attemp return not oh yeah ke what what you saying he wanted us to lose n they thought catch and quite honestly they need him because they've thrown a couple of picks now in this game they've got to find a way to get this guy more involved nice job by the running back catching the football and understanding where the first down Markle was I got to go get that first down did a nice job a lot of urgency for this offense well here's the problem offensively because you're trailing by so much so late in the game the defense now is going to be playing big Zone coverages and they're going to allow you to throw the ball underneath in the middle of the field rally to make a tackle and bed the clock it's going to be hard now for this offense to call their way back in this one already in Chip Shot field goal range at the 21 but this third and short they're still thinking touchdown quick completion on the out and boy is who Clos to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short down by multiple possessions you can't come up empty on this drive they'll go for it on fourth down lets it go to the end zone and it's incomplete the long pass down field they couldn't hook up offense getting set for first [Applause] down on the ground trying to pull the plug on this this offense with a fresh set of downs we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory they are dialed in on this drive a couple of Chunk plays and now all right guys want to update you on a game that went final moments ago AB State overcame a tough opponent and not only that a rockus crow the Mountaineers tuned out all the noise and show this team can win on its field your field or a neutral field well done a lot to go through in the film session this week for both teams but boy it is going to beas for the side that came away with the will yeah to do now how do we get this stop now the defense has to come up big and get me the rock back and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time when you know it's coming and you put those guys that are great catches in the football the first guys what do they do they go block they go blow somebody up the next guys catch the football secure get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is over and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play don't want to risk anything here the quarterback takes a knee you want to talk about building confidence coming through with clutch plays making the winning play at the right time
