welcome everybody to what should be a memorable experience for everybody here in the building the Big 12 championship game has a history of wild dramatic finishes and based on this matchup today we could be in for another one there's a lot more at stake than a championship tropy here today there's playoff positioning and potentially just getting into the playoff on the line as well of the stakes have never been higher as we'll see the number 15 team in the country the Oklahoma State Cowboys taking on the winners of six straight the UCF kns 3A sports college football I'm Chris fower here in the booth with Kirk herb Street I think we've talked long enough Kirk let's get this game going [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] the kickoff team is out there and here we go a conference Championship on the line right [Applause] now and he'll bring it out from inside the T he's tackled at the 21 that's where the drive will start fresh Senter down for the offense first down trying to find room it's Gordon Breaking Free at the 35 breaks clear Endzone ahead inside the 10 they not going to get him he's in touchdown Oklahoma State for all the filmor that they've done to get ready for this game here we are in the opening drive they see exactly what they thought they might see based on their film workk it pays off and this back had a ton of space to show you what kind of speed he has and the P makes it 7 nothing to open the scoring the kickoff team on the field now as they get set to send this one away and it's caught from inside the 20 they'll be tackled at the 27 that's where the drive will start [Applause] [Applause] first down play call coming up how aggressive will it [Applause] be back to throw it's Jefferson screen to the wide receiver he gains nine so it's second and one you see more and more offenses in college football going to three receivers and the slot receiver a lot of times can become the go-to guy he gets mismatches against either safeties a Nickelback or a linebacker walked out and you can take advantage of it that completion makes it second and short offense moving receivers around now before the snap shotgun formation here's an inside gift T kns pick up enough yardage to move the sticks look I realize on any play call when it's properly executed it can go to the house for a touchdown but the runs that really make a game plan work are the ones where you get just what you need and he barely got the first down but he got it first down and 10 [Applause] now5 give it to the back again goes backwards losing three yards there Chris I think we all kind of get caught up in third down what what's an offense going on third down but I think what's also important is how well do you defend first down if you can hold your opponents to a short gain or a tackle for a loss you throw the offense out of whack and their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first [Applause] down they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right now quack changing the play now at the line now in third and very long looking to throw this one's going to fall incomplete brings up fourth down boy this is all about the defense here nice stop here on third down but really it's about trying to get this offense behind the sticks once you get him behind the sticks you can mix up your coverages really affect the quarterback's eyes and disrupt the timing and the rhythm of what the offense is trying to do now we've got another big fourth down coming up [Applause] and the Oklahoma State offense is back out on the field it didn't take long to reach the end zone last time a perfectly blocked running play can they keep it going here goes backwards losing three yards there they don't block the defensive end to shows some quickness getting around the edge that time yeah this guy's usually getting around the edge to put pressure on the quarterback but he reminds everybody here that this guy's a complete package not only can he pressure the quarterback but also he is very very talented and shows you the physicality he has against the run as well to the air it's Bowman caught in the flat by the running back and the broken tackle there produces a solid game we see this all over the country now in college football defensive back stay a back a little bit deeper forcing the quarterback to have to throw things in front I like the decision here by the quarterback because he gets positive yards it's a good way of staying ahead of the chains so a very makeable third down for the offense with a 29 from the shotgun he's probing the secondary he'll take a deep shot the catch is made for a huge pickup and an explosive play stop finally made across Midfield at the 44 what a pitch and catch by the quarterback and receiver for a big gain for this offense the Cowboys will have first and 10 [Applause] here trying to flex the ground game here running back takes the hand off heads out of bounds after a solid game more than enough to pick up a first down another nice game by this back he has had a beautiful day today running the football kind of in that zone and a big reason why they have a nice lead today and the Cowboys looking to keep this drive rolling Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep he'll be taken down but he does have first down yardage the defense has got to do a much better job here of adjusting to the pre- snap motion they just kind of stayed in place and it gave the receiver plenty of room there to make a nice play the Cowboys looking at take advantage of this Red Zone trip snapping it from the red zone now looking to throw grab down the middle it's Stewart that's a good chob here staying ahead of the chains good pickup here on first down the quarterback hits the safety valve that time the big tight end that'll bring up up a second manageable here for this offense R finally brought down but at the 5 yd line these getting pushed back here Chris it's the consistency of his back is given this defense fits they've got to come up with some changes up front this guy's already over 50 yards and if he keeps running the way he is not only is he having a great day but it's going to give this quarterback a chance to hit some big plays downfield off play action and the Cowboys looking to punch it in here it's first and goal 29 phly 29 phly looking downfield it's Bowman short Cur running back makes the catch behind the line of scrimmage brought down at the two after the catch the offense close to punching it in the Cowboys hustle to the line to run the hurry up they'll try to run this one in he takes it in for the score touchdown Cowboys and that's another touchdown for this guy this defense better adjust and get eyes into that back field he may go for a third or a fourth later today with the extra point the lead is 14 pickoff team is on the field simp they give the returner a chance to bring this one back and he's going to bring this out from a couple yards Deep In The End Zone solid job by the coverage team they bring him down at the 16 [Applause] and the UCF offense back out on the field now the last Drive they came up empty had to kick it away can they come up with something here here's the toss play Runner heads outside that's a nice tackle there by the senior been a defense coordinator this week all week telling us about M Integrity not giving this running back any Crees at all really sound defense on that play offense getting set it's second down receivers now getting some new assignments before the snap second down they're going to throw it the pocket breaking down throws the ball away but not before taking aeit a lot of times college football the game comes down to just a play or two and that's a missed Opportunity by by this offense I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to come back to that same play in the second half after the incompletion they'll have to try to convert here on Third and [Applause] nine dropping back we going to throw for the first down it's caught downfield an effective play good for a first down of the 35 [Music] onaha UC [Applause] got it a new set of downs after that [Applause] completion receiver in motion [Applause] now on the run it's Harvey they got him down out near the 40 that's just not a whole lot of options here for this quarterback on the RPO the defense give them credit they did a nice job of sniffing it out wouldn't be surprised if the quarterback is second guessing that decision of giving it to the back instead of pulling that and either running it himself or maybe making a nice throw offense getting set up here's second down quarterback appears to be changing the play scanning the field it's Jefferson and he Lofts it toward the left sideline that deep shot is caught for a big game and he'll finally go down after a huge gain and a big momentum boost for this offense the knights are on the move here pre- snap motion from the receiver looking to throw it from the Red Zone it's a screen pass complete to the running back and bring him down but the back able to pick up some decent yardage in that screen screen plays are't risky because the defense can get to the quarterback and it also can be covered many times quarterback just throws it away here they get some positive yards so down here in the Red Zone every yard tough to find here is a crucial play coming up they're moving the receiver now before the snap and they'll try to pick it up on the ground they'll tackle him for a loss of five yds D this defense continues to just be physical it's a line of scrimmage offense can't do anything on the ground and by doing that this defense is allowing their defensive front to get pressure on the quarterback every time they drop back to throw they become a one-dimensional offense drops back looking to throw for it on third down caught over the middle it's Harvey defense able to stop him it's Fourth Down now you know it's third down as a quarterback you're sitting there back in the pocket trying to find a matchup that you like pretty much everything taken away I like his thought to get it to the running back cuz he's a talented gifted player but he just could not wiggle free to pick up the first down and the kick is good offense settles for three on the drive well they almost put a touchdown on the board but instead they come away with three points [Applause] that one bounces through the end zone so they'll start at the 25 and the Cowboys offense is back out on the field remember last time they scored a touchdown can they keep clicking here or the defense come up with a stop let's it Fly of the wide out catch made down the left side an explosive play tackles made but not before he makes the 43 yd line this drive is going now G moves the ball to the 43 first down coming [Applause] up and the white out goes in motion well hand it off here's the Jet Sweep Runner finding some space there that's a solid gain on the ground second down after that run on the previous play handoff here from the shotgun they get him down but the game moves the ball to the 37 just that's another good run for him he's had such a big part of their success here this afternoon and that last carry it puts him over a 100 yards now for the day and the Cowboys have first and 10 here easy dropping back it's [Applause] Bowman makes a quick grab no stopping him takes it all the way touchdown Oklahoma State so it's still early but this offense beginning to build momentum and build the lead now here as we've seen over the years Chris good teams know how to use the first quarter to establish the lead the second quarter to increase the lead and the final half just to hold on to it they're following that blueprint perfectly widening the distance between them and their opponent before we even get to the locker room and that one will bounce out of the back of the end zone the offense will start at the 25 okay so the UCF offense is back out on the field this has been a rough first half they'll have to regroup an intermission but in the meantime let's see if they can get some momentum going they try the middle but gain nothing on that play I mean Chris you have to admire this offense they continue to try to sprinkle in the Run game even though it's not been able to really get established but they're not just becoming one-dimensional you got to respect that and hopefully at some point it'll pay off look at a pass here on second down that's caught it's Hudson defense makes the stop very close to a first down now the receiver does all the work here man that is easy living for this quarterback really good footwork by by the receiver gets the separation and at that point it's just pitch and catch for the quarterback they'll try to move the chains here on the ground they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one timeout called by the defense their first of the half as they try to make some adjustments here that's a great Play All Around by this defense your first level def e e their own at the point of attack allowing the second and third level players to roam free and make the tackle close to the line of scrimmage fourth down and two in their own territory coach shows no hesitation the offense is on the field a timeout is called and talk strategy close game here as we approach halftime the offense stays on the field the coach is going to go for it on Fourth and two in his own [Applause] territory quarterback pre snap adjustments now for this defense fourth down looking to throw for it finds his man has the first down that'll pick up first down yardage very near the 40 well Chris here's an example of what we always talk about on fourth down the receivers got to run a route beyond the sticks great awareness to know exactly where he is quarterback makes the throw receiver gets hit but he's beyond the sticks for the first down the drive stays alive with that completion for a first [Applause] down physical defending that one Falls incomplete brings up second down on the ready [Applause] to throw it's Jefferson receiver makes the catch defense wraps him up after the catch but he's just short of a first down but here the defense decided to sit back and play zone and that front didn't do a good job of pressuring the quarterback he had the time to make the throw and he put it on target offense needing to keep this drive alive it's a third down play looking to pick up the first down through the air the defender gets a hand in there to break the pass up man on your own side of the field you're playing a risky game here third and short your goal should just be keep this drive alive the best way you can sometimes is just hand the ball off to your running back and have him get behind that offensive line and go to work curious to see what they do now here on this fourth and short e they'll change the pre snap look now trying for a fourth down completion finds his receiver that's enough for the first down B carrier heads out of bounds up is good enough enough to move the chains first down boy that conversion right there was an absolute Dart by the quarterback hitting his receiver and the ball comes out that fast to put so much pressure on the defense to locate the football let alone trying to get their hands on the about time this offense gets going it's a first and 10 from the shotgun drops back and they hit him just as he releases the ball it's incomplete well it's pretty simple the defensive line does a great job of getting after the quarterback and forcing him into that incompletion offense lines up for a second down play off the [Applause] incompletion back to pass it's Jefferson close to the tight end and it's complete downfield they make the tackle but the game moves the ball to the 28 the offense will call a timeout that's their second of the half so the offense takes the field in the final seconds of the half chance for just a couple more plays on First and 10 here looking to throw the [Applause] ball and it's caught across the middle and they get him down what will be the final play of this first half M's going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Connor with our halftime update the Cowboys will kick this away to begin the second half they'll return it from inside the five he'll be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team take over and here comes the UCF offense back out on the field and the motion by the back now forces the defense to adjust here's the throw deep downfield deep ball is caught for a huge gain here oh and nothing but green grass ahead and he takes it all the way to the end zone touchdown nice and they set up with [Music] Pat they make the extra point betrayal 2110 now the kickoff team is out on the field and that one will bounce out of the back of the end zone so a Touchback will start the 25 the first play of the drive now from the 25 [Applause] offense will keep it on the ground here Breaking Free it's a 35 that picks up a first down will spot it at the 39 hey whether it's been on the inside or bouncing things to the outside this guy has shown you everything that he has to offer and a big part of the reason why they're enjoying this nice lead got it this line getting set up it's a first down play9 keeping it on the ground here spinning out of the tackle tackle made after a solid run by the junior you know offensive lineman or just a certain three they're always going to do their job no matter who's back there carrying the ball I tell you what they have a little bit more confidence when the person that's carrying the ball can break off some big time runs that makes them block just a little bit harder knowing what he's potentially capable of doing it's the wide receiver coming in motion now and it's incomplete the defender arrived the same time as the football and now it's second down well I'm a big fan of the RPO but it is a dangerous play for the quarterback you got to make the right decision on this play it just seemed like he was a little hesitant unsure and it cost him here with an incompletion from the shotgun now here's a hand off inside goes backwards losing three yards there Chris as you know the reason this team has such a nice lead today is the day that this guy has had running the football but that time finally the defense comes up with an answer for it they're backed up here trying to make something happen on Third and long looking to throw it's Bowman lets it Go quickly doesn't hold on good hit by the DP now it brings up fourth down well Chris obviously they had to go through the air there to try to pick up this third down and long but when you're so far behind the chains boy you really allow this defense to dictate things and allows them to put pressure on your quarterback and can affect the timing as we saw on this play and the UCF offense back out on the field now this offense scorts the defense with a lightning strike a oneplay t son in the last possession let's see if they can duplicate that magic here and he will make the first down tackled at the 26 Chris the thing that I love about this play is the running back showing great patience and then the vision to find that hole and then accelerate through it for a nice game it's a solid run gives the offense a first down and a new set of downs pre- snap motion from the offense and in first down right back to the running game they bring him down but that's a good play moves the ball to the 39 every now and then we see a really good run we tend to focus on what other people did in order for that run to happen what the offensive line did maybe the receivers are blocking good on the edge sometimes the running back is pretty good too and on that play he picked up a lot of yards and made that happen with good effort second down after that run on the previous play big throw caught on the left side he'll be taken down but he crosses Midfield to the 48 well Defender this guy you need more than one Defender you really got to stress rallying to the football because this guy can make people miss the knights line up on First and 10 now dropping back it's Jefferson pressure is coming so contact on the throw and it's incomplete even in a first down throw he was under some heavy pressure man you got to love this if your defensive coordinator it's all about affecting the quarterback and getting pressure on him this time they got to him to him and forced that incompletion second down play coming up for this offense after the incompletion on first down looking to throw it again fires it on the Move quarterback delivers quickly a receiver on the screen they make the tackle there but a penalty marker is on the field let's see what that's about so what a huge call in this game wipe away the first down with the offensive pass interference call and back him up 15 what's the play call here on second down for this offense looks like the QB is changing the play at the [Applause] line quarterback looking to throw it on second down grab down the middle it's Johnson they bring him down that's a very solid game but still well short of the first down you know not a lot of room there for the quarterback to operate but he shows you the accuracy to be able to make that throw and get some yards third down the offense desperately needs a conversion here trailing in the third quarter and the quarterback looking to make a play through the air caught over the middle it's Hitman tackles made quickly but that's a big gain ball moves to the 35 yd Line This is a big conversion by this offense they're down now in this second half probably limited opportunities at this point in the game every chance you get your hands on the ball you need points they keep this drive alive right here first down looking to throw the ball short connection to the tight end here they bring him down but that's a solid gain on the play well this is what coaches love to see quarterback with the ability to read the defense properly and then just get it to the open man sometimes it sounds simple but it's tough to execute this time we have good recognition by the quarterback then he gets it down to the tight end you can see what he can do after the catch how aggressive do you get on First and [Applause] 10 to throw it's Jefferson dump off caught by the running back and the defense swarms not much of a gain on that completion made the catch but he was surrounded for not much room to run they did a really good job that time of leveraging him out in space I I thought he might have a chance to be able to shake loose because he is so elusive but defense as you said did a really good job in the open field surrounding him just nowhere for him to go to pick up any more positive yards and he'll head out of bounds but not before picking up and for a first down ready the end of [Music] so here we go first play of the quarter the offense has a first down moving the receiver around pre [Applause] snap quarterback making adjustments now to what the defense is showing he hands it off from the gun they finally bring him down at the five offense really threatening now the knights will hustle to the line to rank the tempo he look to throw it here on second down touchdown uccl trying to come all the way back here we go it's what you hope for fourth quarter one possession game Conference Championship on the line you know these Conference Championship Games sometimes can be so unpredictable one minute you're up by a couple scores then all of a sudden you have a stall possession or a turnover and the Pendulum shifts in favor of the opposing team he feeling like that might be happening late in this game dropping back it's Jefferson quick throw misses his Mark there incomplete a great job here by the defense on this conversion nice heads up play to prevent the two-point try here's a kickoff team let's see if they give the returner an opportunity to bring this back kick bounces out of the back to the end zone for a [Music] [Applause] Touchback and the Oklahoma State offense takes the field they were forced to punt it last time now they're looking to respond and add to this lead goes backwards losing three yards there this guy has been dominant all afternoon long but that time the defense has got to be asking themselves where has that been they finally get to him behind the line after the first down loss it's second and long the 22 here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball not easy to bring down the quarterback finally gets the job done and here the tight end shows off his hands for a nice game love to see the big man get his touches [Music] crucial third down play coming up there's the snap he's looking to throw makes the grab it's Owens the defense stops him just short of the marker that'll bring up fourth down and the Cowboys will come to the line looking to convert on fourth down now the offense will spend a timeout here wanting to come up with the perfect call on this important play coming up it's a onep possession game they'll elect to go for it here on fourth down it's fresh coverage now from these DBS here we go on fourth down that's good for a first down near the 40 quick call here by the offense to be able to pick up this first down and Chris it makes you wonder with under three minutes to go in this game and trailing the defense sitting back in their base I thought they might be in a little bit more of an aggressive mindset turning the blitz loose trying to create some players to get the football [Applause] back and of course they'll work the clock here keep it on the ground Breaking Free at Midfield breaks into the clear it's a Sprint he could not stop him he's in touchdown Cowboys that's another touchdown an old school performance this running back in a conference Championship game yeah as big as it gets Conference Championship on the line he decides to have his best game of the season in this game with everybody watching what a [Music] [Applause] game so they'll try to add to the lead now with the p extra point up and good so the lead is 12 here in the fourth quarter getting set to kick the ball off now [Applause] that one bounces through the end zone so they'll start at the 25 okay so the UCF offense is back out on the field the passing game was clicking beautifully in the last stri right down for a touchdown let's see if they can do it [Applause] again looks down field and finds a receiver who worked his way wide open they bring him down but an explosive play by this offense big game the knights will crank up the tempo quarterback making some changes at the line on First and 10 they'll look to throw it with the catch it's Harvey defense shoves him out of bounds not much of a game there the running back that time just kind of sneaks out of the back field and shows his hands on that nice catch got it the offense goes five wide empty Back Field looking to throw it's Jefferson it's incomplete that was caused by the defensive pressure and now it brings up third down not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first down look at a Chuck it again throws to the tight end grab down the middle it's Pitman tackle is finally made but it's down to the 28 yd line the knights pick up enough yardage to get a first down quarterback drops back from the shotgun looking for a receiver they've got him it's a sack from the defense a really good job by this defense the quarterback looked to be trying to work through his progressions to find his open receiver but before he knew it he's on his [Applause] back that's SA sets up a second down and very long 29 from the gun he looks for an open man bringing pressure hit as he releases it and the pass ball is [Music] [Applause] [Music] incomplete third down here time for perhaps one more play before the minute warning looking to throw it on Third and very long he's got it right near the end zone and he finally steps out of bounds after a huge gain it'll be first down and goal the knights line up with a first and goal here's the option play The Backs got her on a pitch it's going to be a loss on the play for set of bounds great play by the defense well a great job by this defense stepping up here working with the lead on the other side offensively about the only thing that went well there is at least they got out of bounds to stop the [Applause] clock ball back at the six for second and goal off that loss back to pass it's Jefferson looking to the end zone oh and it's batted down by the defense great play to deny a touchdown but they're snapping the ball near the goal line but the defense does a good job of thinking hey guys let's Force the incompletion force them into going for three and let's not give up six they did their job there urgency here got to cut into this lead it's third down and goal quarterback checks the defensive look makes some adjustments anding to throw for it on Third and goal makes the catch can he get in he'll be stopped short a couple yards from the goal line a field goal here doesn't help they're going to go for the six on fourth down and he drops back in the gun touchdown Knights and the comeback is on they're set now to try the pat PC is good they still Trail [Applause] though kickoff team on the field getting set now and that one will bounce out of the back of the End Zone the offense will start at the [Applause] 25 and the Oklahoma State offense is back out on the field and they play keep away here just protect this lead in the final two minutes the senior able to make the stop after a short game and now it's the defense that calls timeout here trying to get organized and preserve as much clock as possible second down after that previous Play Motion by the back defense better adjust caught behind the line line it's Gordon and the runner steps out of bounds but does have enough yardage to pick up the first down well when you're trying to close a game out this is the kind of play that you need exactly the quarterback makes a great throw good effort by the receiver they pick up the first down and now they can continue to work that clock to be able to secure this W they'll work the clock here with the running game Christino the spread era over the years has always thrown offensively but what I've been always impressed with defenses that really build their defense to play in space still have an ability to be sound at the line of scriage and defend a running game it's exactly what we saw right there second down after that run on the previous play looking to pass it's Bowman that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact no flag brings up a third down [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right now early movement there will cost the offense five yards and the head coach will decide to accept the penalty and take the yardage got it offense comes to the line for third down off the incompletion quarterback sets up looking for an open man quick throw to his receiver makes the catch down field that is a huge play finally brought down to the 46 yd line and now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as as possible for their offense the Cowboys lining up here on First and 10 they'll run it from the gun Breaking Free at the 35 oh and he's in the clear now it's a foot race and he runs it into the end zone touchdown Oklahoma State well that's why you practice right there Chris this offense had the pressure the game on their back they delivered they get a touchdown and now make this a two possession game with under two to go like their odds and closing this game out they they try to add the lead now with the p8 extra point up and good so the lead is 12 here in the fourth quarter kickoff teams come on the field now to send this one away and he'll leave the kickoff right there there we'll start from the 25 and here comes the UCF offense back out on the field the last possession they really had the passing game Quicky move right down the field for a touchdown and the senior quarterback puts a little bit too much on the throw well they don't make the completion here the timing seem to be off between a quarterback and the receiver but man this defensive coordinator he may want to consider getting more pressure on this quarterback by changing some things up he's got a lot of time back there to throw the ball and eventually it's going to cost you and there's a deep throw with the clock winding down the pass is dropped would have been a big gain but he couldn't hold on this is smart defense when you're trying to protect the lead late in the game you know they're going to take some shots get those safeties and those defensive backs back far anticipating a deep throw and knock the ball away drops back needing a third down completion here finds an open Target on the left side and a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs well this offense has a long way to be able to get back and potentially win this game but they're doing the right things managing the block picking up good yards and getting out of bounds looking to pass it's Jefferson and he's got it he's brought down but not before Crossing Midfield of the 42 now they're going to hustle to the line and get set first down looking to throw the football catch made on the right side that's a big game before he go out of bounds it'll move the sticks more than enough for a first down well the offense has taken advantage of the defense kind of sitting back with this lead that's backto back plays of big yards you know it's a Bend but don't break mentality from this defense but they might want to re-evaluate cuz this offense is moving the ball too quickly down the field looking to throw it on first down and it's incomplete on the throw away find anybody open brings up a second down now on the quarterback adjusting now to the defense we and he's back to throw again after they didn't completion on first down touchdown UCF and the comeback continues this offense has done what's been asked of them they get the touchdown now it comes down to can you recover the onside kick to give yourself a shot PC up and good to get a little bit [Applause] closer believe they're ling up to attempt an one side kick and the receiving team makes the recovery the hands team does its job perfectly [Applause] the offense will take a timeout with exactly 24 seconds [Applause] [Applause] remaining so this one is tucked away time for victory [Applause] formation and the quarterback just kneels down what an amazing run these guys have had and now they can call themselves champions of the Big 12 and become a piece of the history of that great conference and now with the playoff spot locked up we get to see what they can do against the 11 other best teams in the nation and that is
