the first match of the day was um was Jang versus Inova lived up to all the hype unfortunately team wasn't able to compete Sheldon as well as we expected or hoped wasn't able to turn back the clock but um look still a great career from uh maybe look I don't think he's an all don't think he's a Hall of Famer maybe on a on a slow year maybe it will because you know the next few years will be obviously with the goats you know taking over most of the most of the couple of last couple of um you know decades he might sneak into the Hall of Fame but um still Grand Slam Champion world number three Masters 1000 Champion I mean Dominique team had a great career now we've got gof and she has already got a US Open and she's only 20 but she's taking on greva which is an interesting matchup uh she they have played before they have played before this is a little interesting section as well of the draw so you can see there that winner of this match will take on the winner of Maria and Sierra but then you got Selina there as well obviously the scariest person for golf in this section on paper but of course uh anyone's scary I mean on the WTA we this match could be scary this this match could be very scary if uh if you watched last week with Fon taking on grev was not easy mainly cuz fanch sort of fell off at the end but it was not an easy um not an easy matchup in the end and you know G's got to be careful otherwise she could suffer a similar fate to uh and play a three Setter in a first round which is not ideal when you're trying to defend this title all right gev number 66 in the world 24 years old from France 6' sorry 5' 5' 10 right handed 23 wins and 20 losses on the year and uh her form has been okay uh oh sorry not has hasn't been great I should say but again she did play a 3it against fian and that should be something to think about it's not nothing even though she has lost a lot of matches lately uh you push the world number one you know we're going to we're going to pay attention so uh you got to think uh you got to you got to remember that as well that um might be a lot of losses but also she she had a pretty good fight last week she's playing Coco golf defending Champion world number three dropped down the rankings just before the US Open had begun uh she was number two in the world for pretty much all year until Sabal Lanka just snuck out the uh the win in ciny and then overtook overtook uh overtook her in the uh the weeks leading up which again is just unlucky for Goff you know very unlucky and lost points at ciny as well remember that 20 years old from the USA she's 5'9 right-handed she has got 36 wins and 13 losses on the year only the one title this year of course the start of the Season back in Oakland she did make the semi of the austr open though so that does get forgotten as well but uh she is very much in the uh in the hunt for this title seven titles including the US Open her form hasn't been great though she has lost the last couple of matches she's played and they played actually in Auckland this year at the start of the year it was one and one gof got the easiest of wins back in uh January uh one andone but like I said greva you know make it made it interesting last last week against Fon so that should be noted that that happened and that uh that that is she's capable of doing this uh is greva she can she can uh push gof in this match potentially and also how's go feeling is she going to be nervous is she going to be scared is she going to be worried is she going to be fine uh we'll find out now we have results coming in from the first couple of matches so Z wins in four so he's through thas sna beats Stricker in four we've got chinsky and bayana are about to go to five uh Batista and nard at a third at tiebreaker two love two sets of love for batist Ru Krueger and granier the qualies are playing each other uh they're going to go five eventually bck and Jerry zong are in a five set match uh so that's happening right now they in the fifth wins in straights Shelton wins in straights bartini's up two sets of Love rude's up two sets of love pin's about to go up two sets of Love rublev won the first set so again on the men's side nothing crazy is going on right now only a five with B but if you knew if you knew uh if you know what's going on you know what's going you know that that that's no surprise women's side though it's starting to get a little weird Zachary pulls out first uh after a first set and uh she's out Jang beats an over in three no surprise Dash WIS in straights your is matches in Straits uh um and straight and right now we've got kinina and doden and also Min and fr a playing at the moment so we'll keep an eye on those results as well uh AC be so predictable snooze yeah didn't know Navaro was a billionaire really I wish they would enact the idea of best of three men's in early rounds yeah I would if if we had to change Slam Tennis I would be more than happy to have best of three sets in the men's in the first week cuz I don't think it would make it less exciting because it probably make it more exciting more chance of upsets right and then from the round of 16 onwards best of five for both men and women more because then in the end would' get more high quality five set matches and less like you know straight sets five Setters which are boring uh and it would probably spice up the first week because the first week would have a lot more upsets potentially on the men's side right I think it would be and also it would it would also um I feel like it would also deal with the situation that of equal pay that people don't like the people that don't like equal pay you know will also be satisfied with that I think maybe but I think that would be a good idea Billy jeene King was the was the one who I first heard that from so I can't claim that as like I think that's my idea it's not my idea uh and it's been talked about for a while but I think best of three cuz what you could do as well is you could have like the first five days of the tournament all the first three rounds like you can really cram it up because you could have like you wouldn't have to have a off in between you could have a best of three set match two days in a row and then have day off like we do with normal tournaments and then uh best of five sets from the quarterfinals onwards so that means you'd get the round of 16 onwards would be best of five for men and women which means how many matches would that be so eight best of so 16 round round four matches 16 24 28 you'd have about 35 Setters but again quarterfinals onwards the highest quity players are in the quarterfinals unless we have Carnage which happens but more than not you're going to get a lot of big names in the quarterfinals also it probably deals with a fitness issue as well so like anyone who plays Five Setters in the first round won't have to like three setters don't go for 5 hours and then like the crazy [ __ ] happens after that I would I would compromise if if you're going to say ladies play five sets or sorry men don't play five sets I think we could compromise are think would be fun like even just for an experiment because then like the best of three setters would be there would be so many like close three I mean ver went three would have gone three sets today and it would have been like holy [ __ ] uh regardless of Carnage the most informed players are in the quarters yeah they should be I mean it could still end up being I mean look at Sabal Lena right she won the Australian Open it was all best of three and she didn't drop a set so you could have you could have like Al C and jovic get into the quarterfinals without dropping a set anyway you know it doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to lose but it has a higher chance of them losing in an early round which makes it more exciting for those matches jovic versus elbot tonight if it's not straight sets it's exciting but that's because he lost a set it's not because he was going to lose the match but if jovic lost a set against elbot in three sets would be like oh wait there's a chance elbot could win so that like that's where it could spice things up for sure um I reckon maybe one day we'll get it it's funny cuz like the Equal Pay equal play thing is really interesting cuz last week Cincinnati paid sabalenka half the amount of Sinner yet they all they play three setters all they both play three setters so it's it's funny that like you know people complain about Grand Slam Tennis not being equal yet Sabal Lanka got half a paycheck of Sinner when everything was equal you're like okay so it kind I mean does it does is it even out in the end maybe but it's also the only way we could we couldn't play five sets for everybody and every match and we couldn't and best of three sets for slams would be shitty on the men's side like five Setters are what makes slams different so we should we there's a way we could do this we could do this there's a way we could do this poppy about to go up two s of love let's go let's go Poppy I love how it is now hey look if you like how it is now it's fine I think the the re the only reason people are like like like I don't I don't need it to change CU I don't need to be like I'm not I'm definitely not one of those people who think like oh right they've got to pay all the same you know fees for the coaches and blah blah blah you know all the all the expenses are the same for for the high level players right um but like if I had to change one thing I would say five setep final for the ladies just because I want that but the people that want it to like the people I think that that complain about the the money situation they're the ones that we're trying to cater for with the change right it's not for for any other reason but to keep to keep those people happy you know the ones that don't like that the same person gets paid the same as this person gets Sabal laner and and sin got paid the same with his sh open people don't like that so it just be I mean that's the only way that to kind of um make those people happy you know which was going to Ser first by the way um did C get got the money yeah he did yeah because he won the tournament why would c not get paid for winning that tournament he won Cincy and he was fine do women have the stamina for five sets yeah I it's it's and look Craig I can't say I I would say yes because they professional athletes right and they would it wouldn't be the same level as like it wouldn't be the same as in when I say level I mean it wouldn't be the same like physicality maybe but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be good because there's players that don't have the same physicality as jovic yet those matches are still good on the men's side right but the thing would be we we can't say with a definite yes or no because we don't know we haven't seen it so you would say I don't know and let's see let's give it a shot give it a shot see how it looks see what it looks like see if people I think people would much rather watch like I would much rather see a potentially five set Epic on the women's side than a like a three set sometimes we feel robbed like oh man imagine if this had two more sets like a like oh we could have I would much rather see and yeah look we're going to have you know we're going to have those matches where it's like 2 two and two and you're but that happens on the men's side all the time you know so I would I would say that again I I'm all for it I want to see CU I think the only way we'll find out whether or not the ladies can play five sets is if they play five sets like can they do five setters let them let let's let's see them decide you know and if after three sets everybody in the whole WTA starts cramping then we have their answer that would be wild if that happened I don't think that would happen at all because I don't think these uh these players are going to train and then at like the three like you know at the two and a half hour mark everybody falls apart I think that they should be fine some some will but on the men's side people cramp too I mean some players can't play five Setters on the men's side look at all the players that go like guys like Draper right who go from three sets to five sets and then once it gets to a fifth he's he can fall apart right I mean happen C had it happen right uh so I don't think it's a it's a male or female thing it's just a it's a an athlete thing and there's going to be players on the women's side that yeah they'll cramp it in the fourth set but also there's players that will thrive in five and they'll they'll be able to I mean d Meer and tommo played a 4H hour match in three sets you don't think those two could play they're marathon runners right so um I agree give it a shot yeah I I would love to see it I would love to see it and I think we will see it in our in our lifetime because the pressures will be increasing on cuz what it's going to be two things right they're either going to like the tournaments are going to feel the need to to cut the ladi's paychecks because the public people in the public are putting pressure on that and like people are annoyed that oh why is this happening or like it probably be an ultimatum where like it might get to and I hope it doesn't I hope the players you know don't have to pick and choose how but the the tournaments might get to a point where it's like well either you play five Setters at this stage or um we have to cut cut the pay and you go I think players would be more on board to be like we we don't want to cut their pay we'll play more you know if it came if it was pushed you know came to came to that that that uh decision right you know I'm sure the ladies would be like we'll play five Setters I don't think they'd be like we're not changing and and we'll take a pay cut I I'm sure they would rather play five attempt five sets you know but again I like the compromise I like the half first half of the tournament best of three sets second half of the tournament best of five for everybody I would love that I feel like it would make the tournament exciting from I mean we would have so many random upsets in the first week it already happens but best of three sets are so crazy it happened so many the women's side happened so many times imagine all the men's side we're going to have so many random upsets all right Chad anyways back thank you for that was a good question uh good uh good discussion who's winning this match though chat they've given they gave Dominic team is Big sendoff I'm going to go with gof in straight sets but close straight sets as going to serve down to the back end as a fa Tak can serve ladies used to do five setep finals in the past now women are stronger and fitter and faster I mean yeah I know they did them at the uh WT finals in the very final match but as go hits in there 30 love uh but I don't think they've they've never done it as far as I can tell unless I have to do some more research but I don't think they've ever done best of five in a Grand Slam in multiple matches like the only time that I can recall five sets for the ladies was WTA finals between like 83 and 95 or maybe 99 and it was the final of the finals like the final WTA finals match was five sets and that was the final match of the year uh and there were some bangers I mean there was some epic five set matches in those tournaments uh between some of the greatest you know athletes of the women's game you know we're talking naat alover you know we're talking uh Chrissy evett was in was in a few of those finals I think CIS was in those finals right I mean those finals were there was some epics you know Stephy was did I say Stephy Stephy was in them you know but yeah not in the yeah they weren't in slams but they were in um the WT finals uh final that was some some bangers back it's annoying because there's no footage of it I can't find it but there's definitely the results are there as like go wide B gol one love I mean I'm sure Coco go could last five sets you know I think three sets in the early rounds is better for growing the Casual fan base as well I mean it would be a very the only like if I'm going to play Devil's Advocate there it would be a massive jump to go from like if you're playing straight like straight sets two Setters an hour an hour and a half and then you play a five set match in the quart in the fourth round so you go from like it's a massive jump from going from like an hour of play to 5 hours of play not that that doesn't happen on the men's side anyway now like you can play you know a one you know one and a half hour three Setter and then play a five hour five Setter but it feels like that would be a huge mental jump to go from trying to win two sets to trying to win three especially when you're not used to it so I mean I could understand that and the players will probably say that's why they don't want to play five sets because that would be that would annoy them but I don't know I I I like I like the idea and I think it will happen I think we'll get something like that happen in in tennis eventually there will be something where the ladies play five set maybe it's the final maybe it's just the final but I reckon the ladies will play five Setters in at some point in our in the next in the future especially if there's growing pressure that you know or frustrations that you know of pay you know pay equality and stuff I think the tournaments might be forced to to to act if there's if there is that growing pressure from uh from that you know that that frustration I should say not from the players or the men the men's players but just from like just people all right 30 love I don't see a full Stadium at golf's match there was not a full Stadium at the last match either so I don't know I mean that was with two two guys played 4 and from G goes long 315 so if you're going to say like oh well golf doesn't bring eyeballs well it's Monday morning and Shelton and team didn't have anyone either so the crowd's been empty today it's Monday it's a Monday it's the first day of a slam on a Monday there's no one there I mean Sloan Stevens tonight will have more eyeballs than this and it's not because Sloan's more popular it's just because she got a different time zone time she got the right time she got the good time she got the uh the prime time 315 return goes into the back end of Goff to the for of G as GF it's a forehand the back end greva back in from golfing the net and it's 30 all New Yorkers have to work exactly yeah first round first round Monday morning like Monday afternoon I mean it's it's too early for people to leave work all right 30 oh Ron would never last five sets yeah I mean it would be a very interesting to see who it but again like I said on the men's side we have the same thing I mean we could name a lot of players that can't play five sets because of uh because their physicality is not up to scratch that's what makes five Setters beautiful right I mean every I mean you could be a look look at all the guys that were like why can't they win a slam most of the reason is because they can't win five set matches over and over sash's verev right you know he's a great player of the in the thre set 1000s but once he gets to the five set Grand Slams you know he can't seem to get those loses in the final of Australian Open loses in the semi-final Australian Open five sets Los in the final of the US Open five sets loses here soorry loses um not here at the French in five sets I mean you know it's just such a different like it's a different level of player that has that can win those things GF down break point back end slice from Geva into the back in the G gol it's a know we're a deuce um in if anything it would probably make the grand slams for the ladies even like more special like you win a grand slam it's like even it's a big deal now but it's like it would take things to another level because it would make it harder to win those grand slams [ __ ] you have to be a different type of athlete a different thought thinker you know mentally to get to win the slams like we wouldn't have random Slam champions on the women's side as much as we do if uh you know because only a few a select few would be would be mentally tough enough to be able to win them you know and if you made F three sets for the men's you everyone would win one like you know there' be a lot less levels of game right you wouldn't have like you know well if you're going to win a slam you know you have to be good as good as Al CER and you know and jovic these days you know but if it's best of three you know anybody could win one because the mental side of things is a lot it's still hard but it's a lot easier because you don't have to play uh as much right you won't have to you know mentally you wouldn't think oh [ __ ] I'm up two sets of one that usually means I win but today it means I'm I haven't won yet or like I'm down I'm down two sets of Love usually means you lose but you know what I'm saying well if you're down by a set in five sets it doesn't matter that much look at jovic but when you're down a setting a three Setter you got to like get your [ __ ] together real quick so I don't know I would love it I would love to see I think it would just set it would set apart some of the ladies for sure and it would really um it probably really show like the players are doing those slams like Shion for example I don't think she would I don't think her game would change that much um she mentally she is still the strongest player but she would probably further would be as good as it is now what do you mean if we had best of five set ladies I don't think would M I don't think it would it would I don't think it would matter cuz we have some best of three set ladies matches which are absolute garbage we have some best of five set men's matches that are absolute garbage so I think just generally that quality of tennis will go can go down over time anyway the longer you play the tired more tired you get and the worse you can play as wece down the te from golf back to dece so I I don't think it I don't think that would matter that much cuz you could have a I mean we had a remember when G played uh kostuk last at this round open it was terrible it was three sets it was long but it was terrible so I don't think it I don't think best of five really would change that we would still get bad matches anyway we've had bad straight sets matches right I mean and then we've had epic straight sets win like the the Olympic final was straight sets it wasn't a five set it wasn't a three set it was a straight sets win one of the greatest matches of the year right so it kind of just I don't know I don't know if if if the quality would change because of playing Five because sometimes it all it happens anyway you know it just naturally happens just I I don't know I just want to see it as an experiment just an experiment as we return out of the slice of go 4 from GBA into the net one1 golf holds all T podcast suggest everyone plays best of three in first week and best of five second week to get over scheduling issues I am not sure it would be easy to change the M mid tournament I'm all for that I like it um yeah so because the thing with if you play best of five sets for the entire tournament for Ben men and women it needs to be a 3-week event because you can't play best of five for the ladies in the first like for the I mean how many matches have we got today and only half of them the best of five you wouldn't be able to play best of five you wouldn't have enough time in the day to play best of five sets for men and women on the first four days or five even six days first six days you wouldn't have enough time so you'd either have to make a three week slam where players would get two days off between matches which is way that's crazy it would be way too long a time between matches especially if you won your match easily and then you got to wait two days to play ofline uh but I would much yeah the schedule would make much more sense if it was is half and half um you know 4 down line from G to the back end of Geva volley from g g is there with a slic lob and go it's to smash to slice go it's smash puts it away love 15 uh women's final is the only match no risk of others finish not finishing yeah I agree I agree I mean even like look semi-finals and onwards we could probably play five sets for the ladies because the only other things that conflicting with those days are doubles the women's matches from the semis onwards don't play at the same time as the men the men's matches are on the other days so they alternate once the quarterfinals are over they go quarterfinal day two women semis men semis women's final men's final so you wouldn't have that clash with the men's matches anyway you'd have clashes with doubles but you know doubles the best of three so you could you know it wouldn't be that bad as that goes out by go Sorry by love 30 love 30 but yeah best of three like I I agree with what the tennis podcast was saying best of three sets first week best of five second week that would uh
