Pregame welcome to an arbor and the big house home to one of the most stored programs in college football and the first one to win a th000 games the Michigan Wolverine this isn't your run-of-the-mill matchup you get a couple of powerhouses both ranked in the top 10 and statements can be made in this one as we'll see the number three team in the country the Texas long horns taking on the ninth ranked team in the land the Michigan Wolverines for EA Sports college football I'm reys Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up the Longhorns will boot it away to start the 1st quarter game he'll start the return inside his five and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive the Wolverines return team will have that offense backed up and here comes the big fella a staple of this aerial attack Jesse and he's a guy that can line up all over the field David there's matchups out there waiting to be taken advantage of yeah and it's so nice to be able to do that it makes it easy to play quarterback when you can feature a guy like this that's fast big and strong you know as an offense often times you try the reverse play because you're trying to take advantage of a defense over pursuing and buy a lot of defensive team speed didn't work right there great discipline by this defense after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 caught behind the line it's Morris and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few and offenses nowadays we're really just counting numbers how many guys do you have out wide how many guys do I have out wide if I have enough guys to block your guys boom it's just built into the offense pitch catch let me get a few yards this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can and he will be sacked at the 6yd line man you talk all week about setting the tone quieting this crowd don't let him get involved you know how you do that get a sack and force a punt on the first possession of the football game that's a heck of a start for this defense the Wolverines will send out the punt unit three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball so from his own in zone the punt is away he will make the fair catch just a few yards shy of Midfield so the Texans Longhorns offense will try to get something going with their first possession one thing to watch can this guy get in the quarterback's head and make him take a peek at the rush David dang Skippy that's what you want to do you want to make this guy a little bit more human and not as much of a game breaker at the quarterback spot get some pressure on him hit him a few times he's one of the best quarterbacks in the country but he can't hurt you if he's laying on his back and this defensive end can put him there often yeah he had an opportunity to make such a big play listen he wasn't wide open with nobody around him but you got to make that play you got a little bit of space you got to that in make your quarterback look good and make a big play for this offense from the gun the ground game and a decent gain there before the defense makes the [Applause] stop third this crowd bringing the energy and noise early grab behind the line it's golden no way to move he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and distances there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first going to run it it's maxter he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon I if I can quot the Great Davis that was very UNG good not a productive first down play last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 grabbed over the middle it's hell they make the tackle but he's got a fresh set of downs and it's first and goal from the seven well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at him this offense trying to quiet the crowd on first and goal and they are not cooperating caught in the back field it's golden and that will go backwards a negative play in that defense on high alert that time well that receiver's looking at his teammates like guys what's up you're not going to block for me on the screen seriously he just lost yards on a screen play how does that happen defense rose up deep at its own end on that last play now a second and long coming they'll keep it on the ground to the left stiffing the goal line nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and that's a great stop by this defense second down and goal getting the Lost yardage play now putting your defense in a better position for third down third and goal coming up here on the move it's yers and it's incomplete as he was trying to finish the drive with a score nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion now on fourth down here comes the field goal team it's good and the first points of the day come on that field goal makes theore Texas Michigan Z [Applause] so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do he'll bring it back from inside his SP he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Michigan ready to get that offense rolling again last time David it was one two three kick yeah last drive that three and out sometimes that put your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their [Applause] heels after picking up a couple at second and eight they'll run playaction quick way to the tight end turns it on in Midfield boy did he look as if he was going to go gets it down to the 37 well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game that kind of play will send a surge of energy through your offense now now they've got it first and 10 inside the 40 power football with the Run B that crease and they knock him down after a pick up of five to the 32 I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful halfway there on first down it's second and five [Applause] takes a hand off it's Edwards defense there to stop him after a gain of three but he is inside the 30 to the 29 oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack they probably feel good about their field goal chances from the 29 but they'd love to convert this third and short to the ground try to pick up the first working their way closer and closer a third down conversion and they've got it at the 26 that is how it's done on third down and CH and no doubt about it an easy hole to get through and clearly get the first down if you really want to simplify football the low man wins that time the offense got the better of the D easily picked that up got him looking run he wants to throw quarterback mve and he can find a receiver and down he goes what a great play by the defensive tackle look sacks aren't just for very athletic long defensive ends these D tackles man they use their strength they push lineman back in the pocket collapse it and come away with the sack first down sack pushes it back now it's second down the give to the running back from the shotgun they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one great job by the whole defense but how about the little bitty defensive back throwing his face in the fan I ain't scared I don't just cover guys I make tackles seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down to the air it's orgy coming after three trying to escape and get it himself they finally Coral him but he turns that into a big gain and a first down and you're seeing here the difficulties defenses have trying to contain this guy if you leave a lane opener you don't sack him right away you allow him to get outside the pocket he is going to take off and he is very difficult to tackle in the open field he's got running back like ability out in space Here's the hand off pick up of one it's down at the 11 going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down movement here from the tight end dialing up a second down pass play that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of [Applause] bounds boy they love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal trying to move the sticks on third down through the air now he's going to Glide away from pressure and he runs it all the way down to the three yd line before he's finally knocked down on fourth down they'll try to cap off this drive with a field goal and this ought to be a Chip Shot from about 20 yds out splits the uprights good and guys after that field goal brand new ball game all tied up [Music] [Applause] all tied up in just about set to kick it away looking for those open spaces and opportunity didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 here comes the Texas offense always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David and generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive the LGH horns moving quickly to the line might as well give it to him again he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three that DB had a different story he had something to say coming up making a physical tackle [Applause] last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 the playaction fake and the defense gets to the quarterback what a great play winning one-on-one getting home and getting a sack and that kind of effort is going to get the big house fired up these 100,000 plus Michigan y fans are on their feet screaming because of that dominant play right there coming from their dline and we might as well State the obvious first and second down didn't work out third and very long scanning the field it's yers trying to beat the D deep man it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have held on this is a point where you just got to be able to focus the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play and the long horns will line up to PL it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon on the return it's Morgan they're able to put a stop to that return right at the 30 yd line guys Here Come Those Maze and blue winged helmets on offense from the gun they'll try to impose their will draged down after a pick up of five out to the 35 I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make him know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively halfway there on first down it's second and five hand off from the shotgun and with that stop we are headed toward the end of the first quarter and sticking to the run I tell what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can [Music] [Applause] tell they fought to a stand still in the first let's see if someone can get the edge in the second quarter and that last run leaves him with a third down will 2nd quarter they keep it on the ground they'll try to bully their way for the first such such a big part to convert these third downs and they've got it at the 42 I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first and the Wolverines with the first and 10 now they're going to throw it incomplete and he threw that one up for grabon into traffic and fortunate to get it back great coverage great break on the ball had a chance to really make a big play and maybe even take that thing back to the house but you got to secure the catch we like to hit people more than we like to catch pass second down coming up he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play great play by the cornerback and this offense they're just trying to get this receiver the ball quickly to see if he can make something happen but that cornerback was draped all over him nice job they've got a good chunk of ground to cover on Third and long from the 41 fast motion from the offense looking to pass it's orgy going to try to pop one on the screen he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screen and behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play wants to throw on first down off the pl play F and those two couldn't make the connection it's an incomplete pass well they weren't able to come up with the completion on that play but let's point out a positive here how about the pass Pro up front by this offensive line they did an outstanding job giving their quarterback time thr after the misfire it's second down off play action finds the tight end and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do already two for two on third down but this time they'll need nine to convert he's got an open man he's all the way down to the 27 yd line and they are are threatening there's a reason third down is called the money now what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football game not the most productive half for this offense so far but finally starting to get it in gear first and 10 they're going to throw it again got it in the middle it's more that quarterback has a ho that dude could throw it through a car wash and not get it wet great job of putting that ball on the line to his wide [Applause] receiver the Wolverines are threatening in the Red Zone back to throw it's orgy got his man in mid he's there to make the stop but not before he sets up this offense first and goal from the seventh always nice to have that security blanket of the tight end and it's nice to have a tight end that can line up in different areas of the field too it's not always going to be in a three-point stance he can sometimes be in the back field you could Flex him out into the slot they might even try to put this guy out at wide receiver in the split end position and see what he can do there cuz this guy is a weapon out of the gun looking to throw he caught it crisp execution in the passing game and they've got it down to the three I'll say this man in football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle they've got it down to the three now it's second and goal pushes ahead and he's going to take it to the house touchdown Michigan Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up [Applause] front now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic [Applause] and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring drive and closed the deal with a three- yd touchdown run the kickoff team out there getting set and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return so Texas has it again and here comes the offense they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal and the Longhorns want to pick up the tempo wide receiver shows motion now they'll run it to the right here nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry it's a bad sign on offense when you have that many people running free at your running back that means guys up front aren't getting their blocks just too many hats getting to the ball carrier I love his effort making multiple guys miss but still it's a negative play couldn't get him blocked on that last last one now it's second and 14 trying play action hit as he throws that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down well the offensive line has got to give him at least a little bit of time to survey the field he had no chance that time getting hit almost immediately after he got the ball the D thinking bring some heat on Third and long from the 44 back to pass it's yers got his man to the left after burner's coming touchdown long horns and once he got loose it was all over number one and that is just outstanding execution on that pass play great route by the receiver good timing on the throw by the QB receiver catches it in stride turns on the Jets and is gone on to attempt the try is for the extra point smashes it through for the pat quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the scoring play coming on a 56 yd touchdown pass and we're all square as he set to kick it away here's the return from inside his 10 he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 and here comes the Michigan offense back on the field how about that last drive just carved him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback he gave him the ball and he delivered the goods great job taking apart the defense Jesse on that last drive he really did David I mean that was a master class in just reading coverage and being accurate eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short going to run it it's Edwards finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down I love this guy because he brings a physicality to this Michigan offense B shm back there would have loved this guy he would have loved to jog a few extra tight ends on the field get the QB under center student body right and give this guy the football he would have fit in perfectly with his running style man he is hard to bring down got the first down and still on his feet and excellent vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it right now he's doing some damage on his defense know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those Big Fellas get lathered up picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down oh and they'll try to catch him with a pass the sweet feet buy a little time quarterback tried to scramble around for a while with the defense able to bring him down those playaction passes take a little bit longer to devel right cuz you still have the fake and then the quarterback turns his back to the defense has to reset you got to protect him a little bit better than that or the fak's got to be a lot better a third and long coming up here back to pass it's orgy he looks that one in nicely and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop they were really hopeful he could make a guy or two Miss and pick up the first down but he comes up a little short yeah and it's great defense it's defense understanding where the sticks are not missing tackles getting the guy on the ground quickly really nice job by the defense understanding the situation how about that defense rising up and stopping him short on fourth down the offense set for a first down play looking for a physical attack from the gun a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long you saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they move the tight end all over now the play fake catch in the middle middle it's B and he was on his way and they get him down at the 30 Bird orange burning some secondaries working this guy down the field yeah making those big plays down the field Texas when you think about great teams you think about explosive Playmakers making those big plays keeping those defenses on their heels they made the defense pay with that last big chunk of yardage now first and 10 from the 30 from the gun the running back looking for room and the defense stops him just shorten the first down maybe needed a few more chain links to move the sticks and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second in inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution wide receiver coming across in motion caught over the middle it's B they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down they pick up the first down on the drag route good job by the receiver knowing it was man coverage if he's looking he's booking he gave his quarterback the eyes right away that says hey I'm not stopping put it out in front of me I'm getting this first down the Longhorns are rolling down the field the give to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the clock has stopped and we've reached the two-minute warning before halftime hit a little speed bump on this drive it's second and 12 looking downfield it's yers fires into the end zone and he's got it touchdown Texas and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum on your side and they do it they finish it with the passing game and I tell you what heat that passing game up you can keep this lead keep the momentum and keep putting up numbers P unit on the field EX and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the finisher an 18yd touchdown throw kickoff team lining up to send this one away on the run from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Michigan ready to get that offense rolling again makes the catch it's glovin now they've got a little room to work with they're out to the 28 with a first down well this tight end can run these Crossing patterns and he can catch the ball against man coverage or Zone coverage that time nice job seeing the ball in helping his QB out and the Wolverine want to crank the tempo he's looking to throw it he's taking the shot he's got it on the right running toward the tap and he'll take it all the way they couldn't bring him down touchdown Wolverine yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game we Trail a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out in the second half he'll try to tack on one more right down the middle this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away again and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 and here comes the Texas offense back on the field fires to the W out it's caught he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down the magic bean is spinning out of control already over 200 yds in the first half yeah they're being aggressive offensively throwing the football trying to take advantage of this defense on the back end they've got their quarterback right now in a Groove they'll throw it on first down he's got the tie again he stopped at the 45 after picking up 10 yds and the first down the offense Wast no time getting the timeout call now a first down from the 45 yd line he's going to pass complete downfield good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch well the offense able to pick up some extra yards after that curl throw there and because the QB got it to his guy early he was able to turn around make a guy Miss and go pick up some Yak the Longhorns have it with a first and 10 he wants to throw dumps it to the back got a man it's backer he stopped just a chain Linker two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here and that is a tough assignment for a defense to cover back manto man who can get down field like that especially when he can run routes the way he does really I'm really impressed watching this running back with how he's able to cut and how he doesn't Telegraph where he's going he is a weapon catching the ball out of the back herei these routes have some reads and adaptability built in and the big fella found that cushion and made the play man it's so awesome how much offenses have evolved they know exactly what they're getting where to sit down quarterback tight end on the same page gets the first down they're looking to pass from the Red Zone quickly complete the offense will quickly use a timeout I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for a quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job grabbed in the back field it's B quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds it's hard to have success on wide receiver screens when you're facing press man coverage because your blockers out front often times can't pick them up and that receiver gets gobbled up as soon as he catches the pass you saw it on that last play tackled after picking up the first down you know you start day one of training camp running your base runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these plays you rep them over and over and over again not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set of downs when you need them clock winding toward they'll get one more snap off to the air it's your reels it in in the end zone touch down long hard and that's what I love about empty sets and formations on offense is that when you spread the defense out you create bigger Lanes to throw into you saw it right there lining up for the Pat the extra point is true and they're on top by seven so it's an 80 yd drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass [Music] kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one [Applause] deep from inside his own 15 trying to follow his blockers he made the stop on the return and that is Priority One you don't want some big return to give up a cheap touchdown on the final play of the half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update guys tough to beat the pageantry and and quality of play so far today in an arbor toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have defined this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chess moves and with that let's send it back to the guys in the big house 3rd quarter the Wolverines will kick it off to start the second half on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the longhorn sending the offense back onto the field they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even flying out to the left the 40 and a pickup of better than 30 yards on that completion before the defense brings him down yeah and he's been throwing it all over the yard and he's now over 300 yard on the day so been a successful day now 300 yards I don't know Palmer 300 nowadays that's like what back in the day for you it have been 500 I would have won the Heisman maybe it's a big deal today in college football no doubt listen he's in a rhythm right now he's in a Groove we've seen good decision making he's been playing on time and he's been deadly accurate throwing it guess what this game is far from over from the gun the running back has it nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the car don't you love energetic defenses that fly around that make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go somewhere where do you want him to go there there is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creating the tackle for a loss on first down couldn't get him blocked on that last one now it's second and 14 to the air it's your got his man quickly the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's a completion they lost yardage you know this linebacker is a special player because not only is he good making tackles in the open field this guy can cover and you saw a great example of it with that running back decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play he's got it and he got away from the defense and takes it in touchdown Texas this dude is lighting it up for the horns and some old school horn fans starting to think about that 500 yard four touchdown da Vince Young had against Oklahoma State yeah and bringing back great memories and there's been some good runs at quarterback you think about col McCoy too man he put up some serious numbers some serious wins can this be the next guy to catapult this offense to bring Texas back to promin and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they get it into the End Zone on a 36 yd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there set to boot it away ad the here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 guys Here Come Those Maze and blue winged helmets on offense one back in the back field and they'll give it to it picks his way ahead pick up of three and gets it to the 20 yd line this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game Palmer no need to paint it I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely different I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times they'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late they'll try to run for it and he needed just a single yard and he did not get it what a stout play by this defense man oh man the ball carrier was just shut down and I tell you what they need some push up front too right they got to move those defensive lineman out of the way at least create a hole so your running back has a chance not there he didn't have any fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way running it back it's molden everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line so now the L horns take over and they'll send out the offense trying to find his man on first down snags it over the middle they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up it's really nice when you're an offensive coach and you can basically attack the whole field you got an arm like this and you could just boom put it on the line it's really nice to have it and still few inches short of the sticks as they come to the line for second Down On The Run it's maxter and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down and a lot of coaches put a lot of emphasis on situational type running like when it's a goal to go to situation short yarded situation like when I need to run the football and they know I'm running the football right there haven't had a lot of success but I needed a few yards to get the first down great job by the offensive line creating some space and getting the first down got it behind the line it's blue he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one well there was really nowhere to go for the quarterback with that football he's just trying to check it down to his running back and the defense was there and they made the play now on second down BS and fires complete to the right and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few great play by the cornerback he was just way too physical at the point of attack he beat his man trying to block him and he tackled that receiver on the score they've got some work to do on this third and long from the 40 he's looking downfield to throw gets it out quickly and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down you got to love that on defense what are the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion what did you do you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and celebrate wanted to make sure not to give them a chance for a return as it goes out of bounds and here comes to Michigan offense back on the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rib and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack middle linebackers they're middle linebackers because they're right in the middle of the defense you put guys that have a nose for the football because they literally line up over the football every single time they play the Run well and look at this how about this rushing the quarterback getting him on the ground getting the big sack what can they pull out of the Playbook here on second and long from the 17 caught in the back field it's Morgan and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot is he can go either Direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties looking for a man it's orgy receiver looks it in it's complete he almost pick up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short one of the things I love about this defense is they just have such great awareness and they're always communicating they understood the down and distance they knew exactly what they needed to do to make the tackle to force the pun that is so well done and the Wolverines will call on their punt team here's the fair Catch and he'll make it close to the 20 yd line and here come the horns they've got it again on offense here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers ree I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them to football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here a negative play to open the Drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 wide receiver now comes in motion off the play fake snagged in the middle it's hell they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker well it's a nice job too of a quarterback after the play fake there getting his eyes down the field he had to get that to his tight end quickly knowing he wasn't going to have a lot of space to run with after the catch better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down snagged on the outside it's cook and you know if you're the receiver there you just want to know where the sticks are maybe extend your route a little bit more so that you know you get the first down after making the catch fourth and short now let's see what they do the L hor send out the punt unit they look to pin him deep he'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position Michigan ready to get that offense rolling again boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah and the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive after picking up a couple it's second and eight he'll put the tight end in motion to the ground with the back just a solid stop by this sophomore [Music] guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive unloads it left good quickness to grab it off the bals major gaps in that defense and he got loose and they finally knock him down at the 41 first the Wolverines getting set on First and 10 leaves it with the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create cuz why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down last play was in near disaster now dealing with second and 13 a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop now facing a third and long dropping back it's orgy unloads to the wide out got him downfield and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws just trying to suck those safeties closer the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there running back searching for a hole you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play Hey five to six yards AP Pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line guys it is Texas who holds the lead and they are starting to pull away as we come to the end of the third quarter let's take a look at how we got here one more period to go and we'll see just how much fight they've got left in them going to work in the Red Zone they 4th quarter can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no game land what a great play by the last backer if you talk about filling a hole defensive line does their jobs he comes in the hole says sit out sir not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone from the gun wants to pass he snares it in the end zone touchdown Michigan late in the game and the confidence is f building if only there's enough time to finish time is ticking but man you gave yourself a chance now now the defense go out do your job we got the moment if you give me the ball back I'm going to win let's go defense ready to try the point after and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer a 67 yd touchdown drive there and they finish things off with an 8yd toss for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll start the return inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes the Texas offense they still have the lead here Jesse but this would be a good time to put together a drive you're right ree you can't rest easy right now you just watch the opponent drive down the field and score a touchdown of their own so you've got to answer that here your Playmakers better step up and I don't know what it is about momentum in all the locker rooms in all the years coaching everything you can't quantify it you can't measure it and the momentum has swung to the other side you got to get it back they'll snap this one from the 32 it's for down motion from the offense looking for a man it's yers using the quick game he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down I love an offense that wants to stay aggressive even when you've got to lead late in a game like this right you still try to find your Playmakers and get them the ball in space and that is exactly what this offense is doing right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium he's looking to throw makes the catch it's Baxter and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker this is so interesting right now watching this offense stay aggressive they've got the lead in the fourth quarter and you're thinking at home we got to just run the ball and try to bleed the clock they found something on defense they're taking advantage of two straight completions I won't be surprised if they throw it again grabbed behind the line it's B this offense is not letting up guys they've got a lead here late and they are still taking shots they're still looking for explosive plays this defense just has not had an answer here all game long here comes the offense on second [Applause] down wide out in motion they'll run it out of the shotgun hard running there he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three really nice job by the defense getting that last stop all third downs and games are important but this one just feels like it's the biggest down of this game right now for this defense if they can get off the field they've got to give it back to their offense with as much time as possible to have a chance to win this game these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down throwing right a strike downfield just carving up this defense and getting it down to the 24 man this offense is so dangerous Rees they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels and the Longhorns hit it quickly to the line fast motion from the offense going up top on first down catch in the middle it's golden I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he look like a vertical route so bailing all sudden sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver create enough separation to create positive game and the Longhorns have pushed it inside the 20 run in the Red Zone it's Baxter brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down and this drive feels like it's just gone on forever right the clock is just tick tick ticking away the defense is aware of that it's got to be frustrating because you just allowed another first down fresh set coming up you got to do something to stop this bleeding and this defense has to step forward not only do they have to get a stop they've got to do it quickly to keep that time from running down that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five you want to bring in your tight ends you want to bring in more beef in that offensive line I'm going to bring in more beef nice job by the defense understanding the situation Red Zone field shrinks I need more bigger Personnel on the field some big guys that can stop the run played the Run well great job by the defense understanding the situation the give he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying to get the quarterback outside on the perimeter and give him a run pass option I like that too get the quarterback on the move and here's the thing if I get close and I get stopped it's Fourth Down fourth down means go for it that's all that means now today in college football and they've got him down after the short completion but they in closer and closer to P this is one of those unique situations in a game as a head coach you're trying to feel the momentum and what's your confidence in your quarterback because you've got fourth you're in field goal range but you've got the weapons to get one more completion and ice this thing so do you kick the field goal or do you go for it desperately wanted to convert on fourth down but couldn't do it they're backed up first and 10 from inside their own five and they'll try to get this drive started on the ground it's Edwards that hole closed quickly he'll get one out to the six didn't get much on first down it's second and nine give to the running back rumbles across the 10 down at the 12 yd line after a pick up of six I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it [Applause] all so third and short from inside the 20 you convert here and this drive takes on a different complexion trying to pick it up on the ground fights his way for a couple but stopped short of the marker it's fourth and one and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near him they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because their sheer mass and strength fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he gets a block he's brought down but there's also a penalty marker down let's see what this is about look the kick so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keeps this drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty and they Tred the middle of this defense and that is not happening on the linebackers in today's football obviously guys have gotten smaller they got to play in space more cover fast guys out on the perimeter but how about this linebacker coming downhill and make it a physical tackle in the hole got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D got out of trouble and throws Ball's at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long looking to throw it's orgy they're trying to get to it and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes and it's been a long day for this offense if you can't protect your quarterback it's hard to be successful that's the fifth sack they have given up the offensive coordinator has no answers and this defense has been flying around and the Wolverine decide to punt it away fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt fair catch called for and take it at the 30 yd line so Texas has it again and here comes the offense these last couple of drives Jesse have been about the defense making clutch stand I think for this offense they can stay aggressive knowing that their defense is going to bail them out time and time again yeah and especially when you go for those down situations you do that a lot of times because you know your defense can make stands make stops they did on that last possession Point clock continues to run and they'll be happy to wind it all the way down before they snap it try to get the edge with a quick touch pass he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot C in the back field it's cook and perhaps a touchdown saving tackle as they gets him down at the 37 and you just get the feeling that this defense has to find a way to get off the field and get the football back at this juncture of the game trailing late if they're going to win the Longhorns will hustle to the line we've reached a two-minute warning in this offense trying to milk this clock and keep time on their side linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback the Longhorns will snap it on First and 10 the handoff keep working on that clock he's knocked down to the Back Field he'll boo a couple time out called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible might as well keep pounding that rock at this point in the game even though it's second and 12 out of the gun the running back has it he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense big third down as the crowd Gets behind this defense they'll leave it with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense the L horns line up to punt it away he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight he won't be able to return this one as it goes out of bounds here comes the offense on first down looking to move it through the air grabbed in the middle it's Edwards makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground and how about the defense how big was that stop forcing the punt getting it back to the offense and all of a sudden you feel the momentum now on their side this offense will start doing business from their own 18 yd line on first down he's looking to throw it he's going up top here late in the game finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down that's exactly why you practice these two minute situations the quarterback knew exactly where to go and let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second [Applause] look after taking another look just to confirm everything the officials on the field got it right the play will stand looking downfield it's orgie just a short pass to the tight end he got loose almost house it finally drag down at the 32 and he just continues to put up numbers and that number is now over 300 this guy just throws completions man the ball doesn't seem to touch the ground he's back there he's making the right reads right now he is locked into what this defense is trying to do he wants to throw it again pressure coming and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a chance and the incompletion brings up a second down he's looking to throw getting some heat makes the grab it's Morgan oh big Juke to get P touchdown Wolverine and they take it in for six more points massive score now massive decision making obviously extra point ties the football game easy peasy nice job and two-point conversion win this thing so I would kick it but you know what you want to go for it that's your decision this is supposed to be the easiest play in football except when there's this much pressure and that extra point was good and we are deadlocked here in the four four a very efficient five-way scoring drive and they've got it locked up in the final minute after the touchdown an extra point we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away he'll bring it back from inside to five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 and here comes the Texas offense back on the field a pretty good bit of ground to cover here just but they've got some time to work with they do so Tempo is going to be important you got to go fast you just got to make good decisions at the quarterback position and those good decisions are throwing the ball beyond the sticks using the sidelines to get out of bounds try to maximize this time and get in a position to win and how loud is it in this building this is crazy this these fans are going absolutely nuts and I used to love when the fans got involved and I'm on defense because it messes with the snap count it messes with the communication and it can really rattle offense he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple time out on the field and everybody want to make sure they're organized as we come down the gut of the game they've got them penned deep in their own end and this crowd trying to help keep them there they'll try it on the ground running the counter and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker and the Longhorns will putt this one away he's going to try to flip the field with this one he'll bring it back it's Morgan that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and it's so nice to be on defense first just to set the tone to understand what you need try to hold them to a field goal the offense knows they can do their job to go out and get a win just two possessions Paul we're like you got to be at your best yeah and I I love the new rules too because in the third overtime possession it goes to alternating two-point plays back and forth who's got anything left in the tank here in OT off the play fake on first down to throw that's caught it's more touchdown Michigan they strike first here in overtime man you talk about striking first and creating some momentum in overtime the first play you take it to the house and you flip the whole game and put all the pressure on the other sideline Palmer that's how you start an OT yeah David that's just 11 guys on offense locked in first play score a touchdown put all the pressure on your opponent they understand what it's going to take to win this football this extra point would give this a seven-point lead in OT and the extra point is true and they're on top by now on first down they need to answer with a touchdown was to throw on first down got it in the middle it's B the defense playing Zone coverage they taking away all of the QB's primary options down the field so he has to check it down to the drag running [Applause] underneath Here Comes second down and this crowd is turning it up a notch they'll Run play action he's got it and still on his feet touchdown long horns they got the score now to see if they go for the win or the tie field shrinks tight end grows big targets big results I've never heard it put that way but you're dang right that guy is so big a lot of times you get a DB matched up on him he can just post him up a linebacker he can run by him so that's why these tight ends are so dangerous down here in this red zone don't assume on this extra point they needed to send it to a second OT and he puts through the extra point we play on first down here in the second overtime period pulls it and fires to the left they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down my coach said to never go broke taking a Prof take what's there take the positive yards never complain this crowd knows they have to bring it in big moments and one of those has arrived caught by behind the line it's B brought to the ground but not before getting enough for the first down now the crowd responding in the Red Zone trying to help this defense he'll come out throwing on first down and good coverage and better hands on that shot to the end zone well we know down here when you're throwing into the end zone the windows are so so small ball gets tipped like that there are a lot of Defenders lurking around QB's lucky that one wasn't fit operating in the Red Zone here on second down back to the air one more time let it go to the end zone almost had the huge interception there man what a change that would have been instead we're looking at third down you simply don't see that very often a quarterback of this guy's caliber missing a guy wide open in the end zone he makes those throws in his sleep this is a tough spot for this offense opening possession of overtime in a third and 10 looking to the end zone touchdown Texas they take the lead here in overtime and this receiver is on fire he's got all all the skills that you look for in a big time Target that's already his second touchdown of the [Applause] [Applause] game they got the touchdown now in the second overtime you have to go for two to throw it's viewers they got it executed beautifully and the lead is eight inot they know what's in front of them they have to answer that score with a touchdown comes out throwing on first unleashes one deep and incomplete on the Deep ball well the offense is in that Fringe area this is a place where a lot of coordin like to take shots they tried one there just weren't able to come up with it after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down he's looking to throw fires to the big fella it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule what that means is keeping third Downs manageable that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play third down in overtime and they need to get it to the end zone snap from the gun on third down just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection well on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth in this the biggest play of the game so far going for it on fourth down in overtime he'll try to throw and pick up the first down and it's incomplete a missed opportunity 4
