Titans schedule creates golden opportunity to prove themselves in 2024

four to one and keep their College World Series alive it was a fun game well really wasn't a fun game for the majority of the time for vs fans but certainly you cannot sleep on that lineup at any given point and they were able to come back in dramatic fashion to make a game three for Monday but we are not here to talk about the College World Series tonight we are here to talk about a golden opportunity for the Titans to prove themselves based on their 2024 schedule we're going to take a look at teams that are most likely or we feel are most likely to take a step back who made the playoffs in 2023 and we will work our way through the Sunday Funday portion of the proceeding because that's what we do every Sunday here on the prime time show we are grateful when you guys show up the playoffs in 2023 it was a struggle the 6 and 11 finish fourth place in the AFC South uh getting swept by the Indianapolis Colts this season was an unpleasant experience for Titans fans after having a really nice run of success for the better part of I would say I mean you know basically 2018 on you have been a really tough team to beat within the division and the last two seasons have been tougher to try and hold the fort that way but nobody uh nobody runs the runs the roost or runs a division for eternity in perpetuity right the Colts had a big stay at the top of the division in the AFC South for quite some time and then the Texans had a nice run the Titans have had a couple of uh AFC South back-to-back division titles in the last couple years and the Jags have kind of popped their head up from time to time but that's not really been the case uh shanana says Buck please give me a scoop on tanah Hill there's no scoop to be had it's uh June 23rd Ryan tanah Hill is not going to sign anytime in the near future and training camp is still uh about a month away a month from today the Titans will report for training camps so something to keep in mind on that so looking uh Steve Jones has posted luck uh we do I I'm not sure what that means uh perhaps running the division or having a having a good shot to control the division I'm not sure what Steve is getting out there but post luck it is a lot easier you got a little more breathing room right because Andrew Luck famously was 11 and0 as a professional quarterback against the Tennessee Titans franchise and for a lot of people you know it was it was something that they'll never forget because luck retired undefeated against the Tennessee Titans which is crazy to think about so let's start with the Titans schedule first and let's uh let's dive into the place or the reason that their schedule proves favorable for them to prove themselves in the 2024 NFL only one nationally televised game do the Tennessee Titans have this upcoming season it's in September Network trying to get them out of the way early putting them on Monday night against the Dolphins in Miami for an opportunity for Miami to try and get some revenge for what happened on Monday Night Football last year uh bour says is the golden opportunity a chance to win football Golden Opportunity games yes and truly they will have a chance where in the last two seasons they will have not Jody Newell says they earned it uh Steve Jones says try that again post luck we dominated um yeah you had a good run I wouldn't say that you outright dominated you you were dominated the Jags for sure and the Colts so yeah would say that you had a pretty good hold on the division for two seasons in particular but it's been a long time since Andrew Luck Andrew Luck retired when 2018 I want to say uh uh 2018 I want to say was Andrew Luck's last professional season as a quarterback because he had that win andin opportunity against uh Blaine Gabbert and the Tennessee Titans at the time because Marcus Mariota was a healthy scratch on the day of the game so uh yeah there were two seasons where you had a really a good run of divisional play but it's it's really tough to dominate for any stretch of time but this schedule is a favorable one for the Titans to prove themselves and we'll throw the schedule up for you here in just a second while we ask you against the Titans and also he's 11 and0 against the Titans West Coast 13 says you're just a lowlife smartass yes that's true but a very well-paid one so we're happy about that Jody Newell says Packers uh Houston for Robert Wright Cory D Jackson says Karen o'keef speaking the facts Karen what did Karen say to the effect of uh to the effect of uh the 2023 schedule I'm not seeing it here but uh oh go Team USA of course go Team USA because Euro or rather Copa America going on right now in the USA I believe ballistic scored the first goal uh Miami says Bor I live outside of Tennessee so it might be the only game I get to watch yes that is the thing they're only on a nationally televised schedule um at at for the Miami game and that Miami game is out of the way very very early uh this year where in week what is that week four the Titans will travel to uh Miami Gardens and take on the Dolphins after that improbable game in 2023 a ridiculous Monday night comeback where the Titans were dead to rights with about three and a half minutes left and all of a sudden will Levis and uh DeAndre Hopkins essentially leading a comeback they had a good defensive plan for that game as well but they will have that out of the SK out of the way on the schedule before the first month of the season is over Monday September the 30th is when the Titans play at Miami and that is the only time that you will be able to see them for the most part if you live outside of the market Stephen King says Bengals if we can beat them we can make the playoffs I don't know how you're judging that measurement but uh they're not an AFC South team so I would say you have to do more than just beat the Bengals Caleb Meadow says Buffalo after the outcome of the last game that they played is the last um is the last game that the uh the Titans and the bills played is that the 41 to7 game on Monday Night Football speaking of Monday Night Football trauma that was Malik Willis's rookie year that's Taylor Lewan's Blown Blown knee on the first offensive snap or the second off yeah no I think it was the first offensive snap of the game so yes that was a lot sided result I'm sure there's plenty of Titans fans who are anxious to get another crack at the bills uh West Coast says Marcus sorota couldn't beat luck I think tanah Hill uh would have beaten Andrew Luck well yeah it's irrelevant if tanah Hill would have beaten Andrew Luck because uh tanah Hill wasn't on the Titans when the Titans played Andrew Luck so it has uh it has absolutely no bearing on whether tanah Hill could or would have beaten Andrew Lu I'm not sure what that has anything to do with it um let's see ask something says Jody Newell talking about that 41 to7 game Justin says my expectations are tempered and realistic this year but I do think that the Titans are entering a new era and will be heading in a much better Direction I you know I mean I listen I think and I was talking about this today with some people because we were hanging around uh hanging around in the backyard grilling and uh we put Bert in an inflatable pool and watched him roll around like a hippopotamus might for the better part of uh Innings we were talking about it today and I said you know it's generally the first time in a long time that I've been excited to watch the Titans play football because I'm genuinely curious what they're going to look like how the new coaching staff is going to handle it all the different pieces and parts that you have to work with there and there are a lot of interesting pieces and parts how they all come together is going to be even more uh worth diving into as we get further into the season so there is a level of excitement do I think that they are do definitively entering a new era and heading in a much better Direction I have no idea I they are definitely entering a new era that is indisputable or undisputable indisputable I want to say it's undisputable either way you cannot dispute that the Titans are heading into a new era first uh coaching change that they've had in six years that's a pretty long stretch to go with the same coach uh unless you're you know Bill bich or or somebody like that if they are heading in a much better Direction I don't know that we can say that just yet but I'm going going to be fascinated to see how things Trend in the coming years for this team because will Levis has a lot of promise and this team could be in the mix year in and year out if Levis makes the appropriate steps with this coaching staff and the continuity of having an offensive play calling head coach May benefit him um very very much I think that uh fate says why don't you get will Levis interview L on the show again Buck yeah we're planning on having Levis on um so typically we have Levis on at training camp or we have the quarterback on at training camp Levis is just you know happens to be the quarterback now so uh we do the training camp interview series we have players on basically every day for six straight weeks uh and Levis will be a part of that what we're working through right now is a little different kind of an interview with Levis that we're probably still going to do in that training camp window um I'm working with uh the team on his schedule right now and how that's going to look because it's going to be I think if we can get it done it's going to be a real it's going to be a really great resource for you guys um the way that we're planning on doing this Levis interview but again we have to get all that scheduled and work through the logistics and we have a month more for training camp so there will be time to uh to figure all that out but yes the plan is to get Levis uh on the uh on the radio show in some form or fashion here in a couple of weeks um bour says am I going to do a workout interview with Levis no I'm not going to do a workout interview with Levis I have no interest in subjecting myself to one of will Lev's workouts hard pass um the golden opportunity that they have to prove themselves on this schedule I think is pretty obvious and in particular um it is with that AFC South stretch in mind the playoff team that I'm most excited to see the the 2023 playoff team that I'm most excited to see them uh take on this coming season is probably the Detroit Lions um out of any of them just because for for selfish reasons for me I've never done a game at Detroit Detroit is one of the best offenses or at least last year's Detroit offense we'll see how much different this year's Detroit team looks but last year's Detroit offense would be one of the best on the schedule seen them play the Dolphins and I thought they were a good match for the Dolphins I thought they had a good G defensive game plan for the Dolphins and also they were the great beneficiary of Tyreek Hill missing about half of that game but for me it's the Lions game second place is the Texans because I think there is a lot of interesting stuff a lot of interesting Dynamics to talk about how this is going to play out between the Titans Texans Jags and Colts because I really do think that the AFC South is a division up for grabs the Texans will are and should be favored to win the AFC South in 2024 nobody would dispute that not even the most DieHard uh among you of Titans fans but I do think that all three of the other teams below the Texans and all three of them you would put be you would put below the Texans I think that all three of them have a compelling case to kind of make a mess of this division especially uh with what we're getting ready to talk about next in 2023 NFL teams or playoff teams we think will take a step back but the reason that I am most interested um the the reason that I would put the the Texans in second place on that list of playoff teams that I'm interested to see them play is because of the messiness that this division can create you're going to hear from ran carthon on a part of time on that right now I want to say that I saw that the first pitch was at six uh which would line up well for slay in fact our boss just sent us an email about uh okay first pitch all Network airtime is at 5:45 so slay will be done by the time first pitch is on at six which will be great so um 545 you can hear that tomorrow on 1045 The Zone and we'll see if the balls can't win the first national championship in a sport since what's the last balls National Championship is a Pat Summit uh lady BS National Championship that's probably true uh certainly there have been what at least a couple since 98 1998 for the football team but um yeah it's been really tough sleding for Tennessee fans uh University of Tennessee fans and I know they were really really itchy about the game three situation lethal Latin says game three or game three not at three but I will still take a drink with him uh well I don't know where are they uh are they in studio tomorrow I don't know if uh if I'm gonna have to meet them at the studio to pregame this game but it is going to be a fascinating game to watch I'm going to be at a cookout at a friend's house so perhaps we'll invite slay to the proceedings either way um the reason that I'm interested in the Titans versus the Texas games for obvious reasons there's two of them uh and because the stretch the opportunity Schedule that the Titans have to prove themselves on this upcoming schedule I think can make real Headway by the time we get to this week 15 game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Nashville so you go that first 10 week or first 11 week stretch with only one AFC South game in the first 11 weeks including the buy then you have a stretch in the final uh in the final seven weeks of the Season where you play five AFC South games at Houston uh in week 12 Jacksonville Home Week 14 you have the Bengals game well here let's Al just read the schedule at Houston week 12 at Washington week 13 the Jags at home the Bengals at home week 16 at Colts week 17 at Jacksonville and then three straight to finish the three straight Sprint of AFC South teams the Houston Texans at home to conclude the 2024 regular season so that stretch from week 12 to week 18 is going to be your live or die playoff time it's giving you 11 weeks to work out the Kinks of whatever this thing looks like New pieces new parts new offense what have you and by the time we get to week 12 you might be able to make a legitimate playoff push if the first part of the Season hasn't gone necessarily to plan or it's looked a little sluggish a little harder to work around and that's why they've specifically constructed this team they know they understand that it's going to take some time to put this thing together but between uh the pieces and parts that you have it feels like for example like the lerus sne trade this team is trying to compete compete for playoffs my God hard for me to say compete for playoffs right away in 2024 signing this the trade and signing a sne move the needle for you this year I me that seems to be a very large piece to the situation yeah I mean it it helps us tremendously out from a coverage standpoint on the back end and you know if you guys know dard and what he wants to do I think the guys that we signed uh in Cheeto and um and LJ I think they both you know fit what he wants to do from a coverage standpoint and then having Roger here you know Roger played outside he's played inside and so he fits um as well so it gives us you know a legitimate you know top three out of the gate and we're going to continue to add guys we're going to expect guys that were here last year to step up you know know and earn those other spots but uh we we're bringing in scheme fits for what we're going to do defensively so that's Rand carthon after the leria Sneed trade um talking about what it means why it's viable why it makes them more viable to be able to compete uh the the Titans so uh I saw somebody say in the comment section the Titans could have four wins by week 11 and still be Math in the playoff hunt that's right they're going to be alive basically which is why the NFL structures this way it's a play schedule and they are going to be in the hunt or in the mix uh for a playoff spot even if they are you know four four and seven uh if the math is math in correctly no I guess it would be three and seven or four and 10 because there's a week five by in there even if they are four and 10 by the time we get to no that's not right four and four and nine by the time no I'm doing the math wrong my God this is difficult for me what is 11 three and three and uh this is so difficult why is this so hard for me is it yeah three and eight is 11 yeah I got it okay we figured it out we got there God that was hard so like three and seven based on the week five by situation math not easy to do in real time without me being able to count on my fingers anyway math on air says Pork yeah always a tough scene uh so I think think that there is a great opportunity for the Titans to prove themselves in that week 12 through week 18 stretch and that is going to be the most important stretch of their season oaro says never do math live I know it's always a mistake and we always find ourselves in a situation where we try it and literally never once has it worked out well in our favor so if the Titans are going to make a legitimate playoff push then which 2023 playoff team is capable Playoff teams of taking a step back is going to regret most to the Mean So based on the playoff bracket from last year the Browns Texans Dolphins Chiefs Steelers and uh bills plus the uh plus the uh who am I missing the Baltimore Ravens who were last year's number one seed so those are the seven AFC playoff teams from last season then in the NFC you've got the Eagles bucks Rams Lions Packers Cowboys and then the number one overall seed from last offseason or from last postseason the San Francisco lot of roster house cleaning this offseason as they try and stay competitive around Josh Allen's contract they lose both Gabe Davis and Stefan Diggs and they have replaced them with Keon Coleman the wide receiver out of Florida State and a couple of different moves but it's going to be interesting to see how much how hard it is for Buffalo to stay afloat now that they've had to go through the first competitive life cycle under Josh Allen's uh the first Josh Allen's rookie deal and the first couple years of Josh Allen's New Deal Steelers says lethal Latin never bet against Mike Tomlin mistake Jody n says the Ravens also Henry makes them predictable too so the the biggest reason that you guys told me that the Titans would be viable is the biggest reason the Ravens are going to take a step back I don't know if I'm buying that other than Titans fans just doing a little bit of coping but I appreciate the sentiment uh the the team that I think is most likely to take this take a step back out of these 2023 playoff teams I had to think about this for a while because there's always a team that bottoms out in ways that we don't expect them to but the team that I am most fascinated to see how their season goes either way is the Cleveland Browns because of the DeShaun Watson situation Joe Flaco took them to the playoffs after Shawn Watson was basically shut down for the rest of the season after no he played he wasn't shut down immediately after the Titans game it took him a couple of weeks to shut him down for the shoulder injury that he sustained against the Titans but still DeShaun Watson right wrong or indifferent is one of the most interesting characters in The 2024 NFL season [Music] you good yes sir welcome back [Music] Jo let's [Music] go big do I Wasing yeah that's so when we go out we're either going up or back all right either way all right you want to just stand start here right here Min count [Music] [Applause] [Music] baby all right I got you and honestly warmed up I'm jumping higher I really didn't even have to P it that hard either I could have just like I want to SP to open fast and that felt uh what's Grant leave me alone yeah so I thought the other sfet was coming and so but he didn't even go so I'm just like hell yeah first day first day out 3 1 2 three all right so that is courtesy of the Browns uh deshun Watson miked up for Cleveland Browns sound during mandatory mini camp he was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL last season and that is in you know even in in so doing beating the Titans which is crazy that Deshawn Watson played that badly I mean he wasn't that bad in that game it was one of his better performances on The year but it was still pretty hideous now it's interesting that DeShaun Watson still had a 5- one record and that speaks to how good the Browns were around him completing 6 61.4% of his passes he threw for 1115 yards last year seven T touchdowns and four picks will Levis actually had more passing yards uh more touchdown passes a worse completion percentage but in a uh you know it was in a smaller s or rather a larger sample size than Watson had but still deshun Watson has been terrible since he got to Cleveland truly terrible and it's been pretty jarring to watch because i' I've covered deshun Watson games against the Titans and I've know how good that player has been in his career it's crazy uh and with that I mean I would argue that if DeShaun Watson is even you know slightly above average Cleveland's probably the best team in the sport the roster is stacked top to bottom again this season and the thing that is anchoring them the most is DeShaun Watson anchoring them in the in the sense of dragging them down not like anchoring them as as like their base it is uh it is pretty it's pretty crazy to think about the idea that they still have probably two more years of him on that contract before they can actually move on from him if they want to move on from him and this season is huge in trying to figure out whether they're going to have to basically plan contingency plans for immed more immediate contingency plans around deshaun's wat Deshawn Watson's future there I think though I mean even more so than the Eagles the Niners the Browns are the best team in football if they get the quarterback situation A figured out but the crazy thing is they just simply cannot throw figure out the quarterback position no matter how much money they threw at it MB says Watson has passed his prime I said that he would not recover after the Scandal just like Tiger Woods well famously tiger won a masters after the Scandal like Tiger Tiger recovered after the Scandal it's just well it depends on which Scandal I guess you're talking about because tiger did deal with um you know not the the Scandal for Tiger was the the cheating situation um and how rampant the cheating situation was for Tiger but you know he still came back in pretty tremendous fashion so I don't know that I would uh sleep on Watson yet and use tiger as the example after the way the Tiger Woods did bounce back that way Sunday Funday no easy way to transition to it but what gave you the
