Titans signing of Jamal Adams raises more questions than answers

[Music] welcome into adz sports prime time on this Thursday night if I've got my days correct it's been a hell of a day with actual NFL news regarding your favorite football team the Tennessee Titans we're gonna talk about them tonight and the signing of Jamal Adams what it means what questions it answers what questions it creates what the role should appropriately be for a player who has been great in his career but it's been a long long time since he has been great in his career and it is worth discussing and diagnosing together so we'll do just that we'll talk about pre AKA what is it Blitz Boy AKA Jamal Adams joining the Tennessee Titans on a oneyear pro it deal we'll get your initial reactions we'll talk about what his role should be and then we'll do a Titans related weekend bounce back because one of your players in the mid midst of all of this news had a pretty silly tweet that I'd like to talk about and we will do so at the end of the show before we get started need you guys to share the broadcast around on Facebook YouTube Twitter and on Twitch where it seems there is h a little bit of uh discussion and debate about how much you guys actually like or dislike this signing we will get to that uh here in just a moment but first you guys need to share the broadcast like I said so if you're hanging out on Twitter please retweet it if you're on Facebook live you can share share out of public and if you're on YouTube or twitch you can like the video subscribe to the channel while you're there and we would appreciate you as well so like I said I'm seeing some mixed reactions I expect that will continue throughout the course of tonight's show so without further Ado let's go ahead and get it started welcome into a toz sports prime time from the Zen Sports Studios I'm your host Buck Rising lovely to see you lovely to have you here on Thursday July the 11th and I'm proud as always to be presented to you by the wonderful people at Zen Sports workout ever recycled or repeated in fact I will be there tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. at Trum MAF Fitness in The Gulch so Jamal Adams the news broken by our good friend teron Davenport of espn.com is joining the Tennessee Titans Now Adam schfer added to the reporting of teron by saying that it was a one-year deal the fact that the money's not out there uh the fact that none of us seem to be able to find or get the contract Det details means that the contract is very small and in fact I texted with some people in the organization today um who did not themselves know the contract details but said my understanding is that it's cheap so that in and of itself I think speaks to one the safety Market two what how they kind of feel about players that exist on the roster and three I don't necessarily think it precludes them from signing an additional player and then more safety help if they feel they need it down the road because Jamal Adams is it's been a long time since he's been a safety in general and certainly been a long time since he's been a good NFL player so this is a deal that comes with little risk though it does come with some and not that much upside because it's certainly been a tough three past three seasons for Jamal Adams whose body frankly has just broken down on him to the point where it's impacted his performance so we will talk about these things together uh favorite and under says didn't he play well under dinard Wilson previously yes in fact he did which is something that we will talk about momentarily uh we will get into this discussion together we will start with your two rivers Ford take the question being what was your initial reaction to the Jamal Adams signing let me know in the comment section we'll talk about it together uh and we will uh and I will expand on the idea of uh dinard Wilson and reuniting with Jamal Adams here in just a second but first let's hear from Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network on the transaction itself yeah you know the Tennessee Titans made so many splashes in free agency one of the bigger stories in free agency all the way through and they have been essentially quiet for a couple months just going through practice and building and building and then out of nowhere today Jamal Adams the former pro bowler former superstar safety he agrees to terms on a one-year deal not a lot of money more of a provate deal for but for Jamal Adams that really is what he's looking for and honestly considering what's happened the last couple years the injuries that he has battled that's what was out there for him it is now on him to get on the field to stay on the field and continue to thrive as he always has when healthy this time for the Titans I was actually a little curious about where they signed in plays you're going to move to linebackers you going to be safety he is a strong safety the hope for them is that he ends uh lends some of that veteran leadership on the back end as well so that is Ian WAP report of the NFL Network breaking down the transaction again your Two Rivers Ford take the question is what was your initial reaction to the Jamal Adams signing we'll talk about it together I'll remind you that your Two Rivers Ford take is presented by the South's most trusted Ford dealer to Rivers Ford in Mount Juliet or online at Two Rivers for.com Bert uh just so you're aware you put out last night's tweet instead of tonight's tweet for the first question so I assume that you will correct that here in short order Two Rivers Ford never needs correction because they always put you in the driver's seat as the car buying customer nobody makes the car buying process faster more easy or more fun fun excuse me than two rivers Ford in Mount Juliet or online at2 rivers.com for more information so the news came down at about 10 a little before 10:15 this morning we were live on the air doing the radio show when it happened and it was a it was a pretty big surp prize League wide um because Jamal Adams was scheduled to make a visit here but it was not the expectation that he would not leave here without signing a contract and so the initial reaction uh is something that I'm curious about from you guys for those of you who were listening to the radio show today you know what my initial reaction was but we will uh read some of your comments here together uh Real Cricket says I'm good with cheap if there's still a chance for Simmons well there's still a chance for more safety help I don't know if there's still a chance for Simmons um I don't I think this is pretty telling about the price point for the marketplace and I I mean they may be content to to ride it out with what they have instead of paying top of Market in the postd draft postf free agency waves or post initial free agency waves on Justin Simmons because Justin Simmons is probably asking for significantly more money is asking for significantly more money though I don't know the exact price point to give you then Jamal Adams ultimately uh will get here uh let's see boss man says I don't like it he doesn't have range can't cover he's been injured the past two years to which I would have ADD he's been injured the past three years definitely rather them signed Simmons it's not like they didn't have the cap space which is true they absolutely did uh Hill antill points out Buck also he played for this defensive scheme before yes I'm aware I mentioned that he was uh with Denard Wilson with the New York Jets when during his most successful stretch of football Jamal Adams when he was a first time allpro burning devil 2010 says Buck's face was priceless when he heard the announcement so let me see if I can recreate that exact experience for you Lucas panika tells me that we have breaking Titans news and the news is that the Titans have signed safety Jamal Adams and I made a face like I smelled something bad and I said to do what because sure as hell it's not to play safety he hasn't been a safety in a very long time in fact he hasn't been a good football player in a very long time which is why this signing is not going to be for a lot of money there was not a ton of Market interest in Jamal Adams and to reunite him with former coaches not just his uh former position coach and dard Wilson who's now the defensive coordinator here but uh he also has other connections with other people on the Titans coaching staff too he has a connection to ran carthon through the person that represents him that was also Rand carthon's agent while he was a player at that time Jonathan erdle says careful Buck your face will freeze like that uh no it won't because I get too much Botox my face will freeze exactly how I want it to freeze because of the great uh the wonderful ladies at canvas skin so we love that uh best part of that signing for me was Buck saying last night that it wasn't happening this week what talking about Simmons yes you are correct and I said that I would be surprised if there was much movement this week and I will admit that I was absolutely surprised the entire league was surprised by Justin uh rather by Jamal Adams signing with the Tennessee Titans not to justify it but I didn't you know nobody thought that Jamal Adams was going to be one of the first names in the post initial waves of free agency off the board and there was no inkling of this Beyond he was taking a visit plenty of players take visits plenty of represent representation is contacted the fact that the deal was done so quickly is 100% a surprise Lucas Burks corrects me and says not Botox but broox and that is absolutely correct shout out to protox we love to see it uh Titans looking like a senior nursing home with this one says pylon on YouTube well Jamal Adams is definitely different I mean he's got name brand Equity right Jamal Adams is a famous player but it's been a long time since he's been a famous player for actually being a football player rather than just being a name um MB says I think this signing is a direct signal to Simmons that his value isn't what he thinks it is well no I mean I could have told you that with the Tony Jefferson sighting dony Jefferson signed to start playing uh to start playing with uh to to come back from football after having several seasons off um the former Baltimore Raven I believe he was an Arizona Cardinal before that Tony Jefferson coming back and and competing for a starting role with the Los Angeles Chargers defense told you what you needed to know about the uh about the safety Market at this point um 28 is a senior C citizen says Stephen King put me out to pasture yeah that's the thing he's only 28 years old I will admit it feels like Jamal Adams has been around for a lot lot longer but that speaks to how far he's fallen from those first handful of Seasons where he was a first team allpro he has been a two-time second Team all proo and he's been a three-time pro bowler but it's been many many years since that ABS since that took place so at this point um the Jamal Adams signing raises more questions than it answers but the question that I know definitively is that he will not be a safety or a safety in the traditional sense because he has not been a safety in the traditional sense in quite some time uh Stephen Rodriguez says he can't cover yes I'll read you some coverage stats here in just a second uh pylon says Nah 28 is considered older not in the NFL 28 is considered Prime you're incorrect on that the wrong side of 30 is considered older and that that bar has changed with the way that um supplements and recovery and all kinds of things have uh have you know basically science has gotten a lot more more Progressive and allows these guys to play much longer unless you're offensive and defensive lineman and they're they're still kind of you know that that's just you're getting in a car wreck on every play so it it wears you down much faster unfortunately so the initial reaction was I don't know that I like that and then as I started to work through it in my head and thought about the different ways that Jamal Adams was deployed and I in fact I texted a handful of people with the league in fact I texted uh one senior Personnel uh NFL Personnel evaluator today and I said any thoughts on Jamal Adams with the Tennessee Titans I got back two words and a period he stinks period is what I got back uh Michael Smith says y'all complain about everybody we get and maybe that's true but Michael the it's not even complaints they're just questions right they're just questions at this point because if ever there was a player to complain about given what is available on the safety Market Jamal Adams signing is a reasonable complaint right uh this is a player for for a team that is is desperately desperately in need of players who are available this is a player who has been in the last three seasons perpetually unavailable now he's a tough son of a I mean he is a tough dude he is a a classic hat on hat hard-hitting strong safety in which the league doesn't really allow for anymore because you can't really play that way especially when you struggleing coverage the way that Jamal Adams does and by the way he allowed a career worst completion percentage against him when targeted in coverage this year for the Seattle Seahawks and I'll read you those numbers here in just a second Rooney Glover says trust the process and and listen that's fair because like I said with dard Wilson he did play his best football this is a pro it deal and if they can rehabilitate a a safety who had a really promising start to his career then to their credit it'll be a value signing and he can go on and uh play Elsewhere for more money if this if this goes to plan the way that they Envision it and again the money is not such that it will be hugely impactful um but it is interesting to kind of think about I uh I also sent a text to mina KES today who's uh famously a Seattle Seahawks fan on ESPN um just I and I just asked her blatantly the question is there a single reason to like the Jamal Adams signing the man barely plays football her response was I think he could be an effect effective situationally a sort of a dime backer slash Blitzer in coverage flatly no so asked a handful of people around the NFL today uh including some people that work for the Titans about the signing and basically the the thing back the thing that I got most that I think got or excuse me that I got back most often easy for me to say Jesus uh is that yeah I mean maybe there's something there and it's not for a big it's not for a big cost so if they can figure it out great now the problem is the the the problem that I would foresee if he is not a great player and if he is not pleased with the the playing time that he does or does not get Jamal Adams at least was represented in the coverage of the Seattle Seahawks last year as a bit of a Mal content uh you know moments where I mean he did get benched after he continued to struggle with injuries after he returned into the lineup was ultimately placed on injured reserve last year after dealing with a knee sprain uh and did you know he did effectively lose his job in Seattle and they cut him this past March that was a trade that John Snider continued to defend till the end for First Multiple picks including a first-rounder for Jamal Adams was pretty confusing at the time uh Stephen Rodriguez says he is probably the healthiest he's been in years I think last year he was out because of a concussion no he missed time with a concussion and then with a knee sprain which is ultimately what shut him down um Aaron Lewis asks a role question could he be used as a coverage linebacker in this new scheme well why don't we answer that together right after I remind you that the prime time program or what do you think his role should be here is the question for you and while you answer that question I'll remind you that the prime time program is made possible by trumav Fitness in The Gulch no workout ever recycled or repeated only the best for you at Trum Fitness as you uh can assure you that your first workout is free When you mention AD Sports as a middle Tennessee resident I'll be there tomorrow morning at 7 am so perhaps I'll see you there uh so what is the best role for Jamal Adams in this Titans defense and going back to the question that Aaron Lewis on YouTube asks could he be used as a coverage linebacker in this new scheme absolutely he could um there's nothing definitive that he's gonna play safety right it is unlikely that he plays safety in the traditional sense he is so let me give you some numbers uh that I looked up on Pro Football Focus today uh regarding his regarding his play as a safety specifically because that's you know that's something that I think is worth diagnosing a little more now Jamal Adams last year uh only appeared in nine games now that is eight more games than he played in 2022 when he was uh injured in the season opener and missed the remainder of the 2022 season with a uh it was a let me double check my notes here I believe it was a quad tear that cost him the 2022 season and then the concussion and knee strain were the issues that he dealt with last year that cost him a fair amount of time as well on top of getting bench so in 2023 here are the snaps that Jamal Adams played based on his position as a defensive lineman he played 28 total snaps as a box safety which is going to be his role here and essentially uh you know a nickel linebacker he played 208 snaps that's his primary position as a slot corner he played 183 snaps as a wide corner he played 14 and as a free safety he played 85 snaps for a total of 518 defensive snaps for the def for the defense of the Seattle Seahawks last season now in coverage because this is where uh this is where the you know this is where it betrays him essentially as being a safety because he's he's really not that at this point in his career last year he allowed a completion percentage uh or rather a reception percentage of 82.4% he was targeted 34 times he allowed 28 receptions on those 34 targets that he uh that he received or that he uh got in by opposing passing games and he allowed 82.4% of those receptions to be completed for 292 yards and an average yards per reception of 10.4 tough scene he has also not had a single sack uh according to Pro Football Focus since the 2021 excuse me since the 2020 season he went 2021 2022 and 2023 primarily as a box safety and somebody who was deployed in a pressure scheme without getting very many pressures at all in fact the last three seasons he has not had more than seven total pressures seven in 2021 one in 2022 of course because he missed the entirety almost the entirety of the season and against seven in 2023 had two hits and five hurries he batted down one pass he also was a poor tackler last year which kind of lends itself to this discussion of okay how good is he really and how are they going to deploy him in this scheme because he has to be sound as attack tack if he's going to play in the box right and he gave up a career high let me find his T his Miss tackle percentage he uh combined or had 40 combined tackles last year he missed 15 tackles for a career-high missed tackle percentage of 24.2 so all this to say last year was a really really bad season for Jamal Adams and ultimately the season that he gets benched now dard Wilson is not you know the and I can't remember who was the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks last year but it's Pete Carroll's defense right so they will deploy him in in similar ways I'm sure with maybe with some adjustments because he was definitely playing More in coverage in New York when he was their first round pick the sixth overall pick uh in the 2017 NFL Draft so dard Wilson will have a vision for him based on the player that he used to be and based on the player that he is now because those are two separate things the the first four years the first three and a half years of Jamal Adams were excellent excellent and you could debate how good a safety he actually was versus versus the way that they were playing him but there's no question that the Jets got the best version of him um MB says honestly if you can't cover and you can't tackle why is he here as a Defender because he's cheap that's the answer to qu answer to your question because your safety depth is probably not your safety depth is not great right it's not existent and whether he's a safety in the conventional sense or whether they can find a specific role for him and just kind of bill bellich this thing right we're going to find you a job you're gonna do that job do your job right that's the whole bill bich Mantra and and dard Wilson I think has a vision for how this should work now whether it'll work or not remains to be seen right and that's what will play itself out during training camp during I'm sure he'll play during the pre-season and then uh into uh into the regular season there's no guarantee that small Adams makes this roster right that's that's the thing that I think people are getting too caught up in there's not a lot of I don't know the exact figures here but there's not going to be a lot of guaranteed money tied up in this one-year deal so in the same way that Nick Westbrook Aina is on a one-year deal here right and there's no guarantees that NWI makes the roster there's no guarantee that Jamal Adams has to make the roster on a one-year Pro it deal now likely they're bringing him in for a reason because either they're not comfortable enough with what they have at safety there will be some level of competition or two they have devised a very very specific role that they think they can deploy him in and want to kind of see this out because they have three three of these kinds of players right Otis Reese is a former safety at all miss that converted to a linebacker at the NFL they just drafted another one of these guys in James Williams uh who is a former college safety at Miami who will exclusively be an off-ball linebacker here now you have Jamal Adams who is one of the one of the players at the NFL level who's kind of Representative of this movement of safety at least in recent memory of s you have all manner of examples whether it's Brian llac or um oh I'm blanking on the Carolina Panthers uh is it Thomas Oh Thomas Davis Thomas Davis is what bird is mouthing to me uh in the uh behind the scenes screen for me so there have been players like this across NFL history for sure and the Titans have three of these kinds of players so is Jamal Adams the the best version of that kind of a player yeah it would seem so and if they can get better play out of him than they might out of uh James Williams as James Williams learns or out of Otis Reese we'll see how this goes along Mr Robinson neighbor Mr Robinson neighborhood on Facebook live says that is who he he will be teaching Williams you know I don't know how I'm curious to see if Jamal Adams also takes that approach because yeah they'll be in the same position group but it's kind of like the tanah Hill Malik Willis Joe flacko Lamar Jackson type stuff it's not in their job description to teach these guys or bring these guys behind them along at all it's their job it's their job in their job description to go out there and compete for a job and beat these guys out now can you learn and grow and coales his teammates along the way of course but it's not you know he's not brought in for for reasons of he's not been brought here for reasons of you know veteran veteran mentorship for lack of a better term because in fact you know and again I would like to ask Jamal Adams these questions personally before I pass any kind of judgment on the way that things went down in Seattle last year but it did not sound like he was a good soldier in Seattle last year and now that's easy to get slanted if you're not if the player is not is not speaking on the topic themselves right it's easy for those things to get misconstrued in media and you know teams put their own spin on things as well if they feel like a player is not performing up to expectation um what's the Titans media on him what's the Titans media on him Mike Keith interview go watch it people Adam spoke all this spoke about his injury where he couldn't walk or use the bathroom by himself okay well the grammar there is uh horrendous but uh instead of that why don't I just play for you a snippet of Jamal Adams on the official Titans podcast earlier today this was him sitting down with Mike Keith and Amy Wells courtesy of Tennessee Titans online you know uh just knowing that dinard Wilson uh you know was coming over to the Titans and and it was going to be the DC it was a no-brainer for me all right we've got to know about dard a little bit because you have played for him before right tell us why that was so intriguing to you why you wanted to work for him again basically well you know he drafted me you know that goes a long way right so he drafted me back when I was 21 I'm 28 now uh you know Tom and I'm going into year eight um and this has always been his dream job of what he wanted wanted to do what was his goal um he was always trying to achieve that day in day out and um he's always set the standard he's had his standard at a high you know level um there was nothing that we were going to change his rules or you know it's not going to work you know what I mean so he's just really competitive a guy that loves ball and a guy that you know he he he's going to get the best out of you we've heard a lot about what he's going to bring as a defensive coordinator right you know because you played for him 2017 through 2019 with the Jets what is he going to bring as the defensive coordinator he going to bring energy he's going to bring uh everything out that that you could imagine um he he's trying to bring the best out of the player each player he's he's trying to reach everybody because it's you know it's one team one heartbeat right so you know for him his philosophy is being a dog but being smart being being being in a controlled environment you know not getting too hype not getting too low but staying even kill and you know just being being being attack full that's what it's about that relationship Al so that is a snippet from Jamal Adams sit down with the voice of the Titans Mike Keith and Amy Wells of Tennessee titans.com so you can go check that out uh I talked with some people in the organization today he's not going to be made made available in a press conference setting until training camp so you can look for to that in 12 Days 12 well I don't know if he's going to be out there and available to us on report day but the first practice will be on the 24th and I'm sure either the first day that they report or this the first day of practice uh we will hear from Jamal Adams in a press conference setting and we'll be able to ask him more of these questions because like J Q's asks I hear he sucks in the locker room I don't know whether he sucks in the locker room or not I don't know what caused the fraying of the relationship there between the Seattle Seahawks and and Jamal Adam because there was definitely a falling out there towards the end maybe he's just pissed because he got benched right and again if he doesn't get the kind of playing time that's a question if why were you upset last year was it a result of your lack of playing time or the fact that they decreased your playing time and if that happens here are you going to be a good soldier about it because I think all of those questions are fair questions to ask at this point in time uh all right so there'll be more information on Jamal Adams as we uh continue there'll be more information on how the Titans continue to evaluate their roster and I'm sure more information on the safety Market as this thing progresses it's funny because you know the vast majority of the Titans front office staff are not even back in the building so the very few of them including the general manager Rand carthon who are starting to trickle back in since the July 4th holiday apparently did this uh I mean did this very very quickly and much the same that sounds like even faster than the Calvin Ridley deal got done which was over the period of like 12 hours or something like that to hear rant carthon tell it all right weekend bounceback is how we'll wrap up this show for this week on Facebook YouTube Twitter and on Twitch who needs to bounce back most in sports this week mine is also Titans related so we will get that uh here in just a second right after I remind you that the prime time program is made possible by the Ashton real estate group of Remax Advantage don't sell without the Intel make sure you go to Gary aon.com and get your dream address without the stress the Intel Edge that you can only receive from the official real estate agent of the Nashville Predators at Gary aon.com okay so who needs to bounce back most in sports this week uh Brandon doer says I swear this man Buck hates the Titans well so funny that you say that as a matter of fact because your defensive tackle seems to think seems to have the same complaint and I'll get to the Jeff Simmons's tweet here in just a second Brandon I would uh CH if you think that I hate your football team I would I would offer you two things one there has been nothing but outright analysis and evaluation of the player tonight there has not been anything super critical other than many more questions that this creates about the signing of the player and if you think that this is hating on a team one I would challenge you to you know go pay attention to any kind of media that's available in any bigger market and I would also challenge you to be a little less soft because this is not any kind of legitimate this is not any kind of Hardcore criticism these are posing questions that need to be answered about a player who hasn't been a very good player in quite some time and if you don't like the fact that those questions are being asked again I would challenge you to be a little less soft about the way that you consume coverage around your favorite football team now sometimes the players are are good about receiving criticism sometimes they are not in terms of that I present to you the person who I think needs a bounceback this week and that's big Jeff Jeffrey Simmons tweets something to the same effect as Brandon doer does or Brandon I foret it wasn't doer uh no it was Brandon doer thank you okay uh anyway so Jeffrey Simmons uh after he tweets let let him cook talking about Rand carthon and the Jamal Adams coverage or on the Jamal Adams signing he says i' just be seeing a lot of tweets and hit that bookmark so he's bookmarking things for motivation yeah he says how do some of you guys cover us talking about the Titans but hate us so much now um so I don't know who he's specifically talking about or what he's specifically referencing and um I would I would be curious to know what it is that he saw or got sent to him or or you know saw a clip of that prompted that tweet but again if the same thing that I just said to Brandon doer if you think that we hate your football team then one I think that's pretty soft I think it's an incredibly whiny tweet to put out there especially when as the I mean one of the biggest leaders of the football team one of the most front-facing leaders of the football team brother why do you publicly give a about what media is saying I know that everybody sees our tweets I know that everybody reads our commentary I know you know and all these guys are hyper online like it's impossible to avoid it so anytime you talk about blocking out the noise or whatever like you can really only block out so much and I understand that it wears down on them one I would ask him Jeff what do you think our job is like as as professional media what do you think our job is to praise every single thing that the team does sight unseen to to to blindly back a team that lost seven straight in 2022 and was 6 and 11 in 2023 if you want better coverage if you want more favorable coverage of the team that you play for I would challenge you to be better as a football team I would challenge you to be better as an individ ual Jeff got ranked as the fourth best defensive tackle in football and that's no I mean he's still a top five player but Jeff played in 12 games last year and was definitely less effective than Chris Jones quinnon Williams or Dexter Lawrence and so I would challenge I would challenge Jeff Simmons in that moment obviously I haven't had the we're not in the locker room right now we're not at practice and I don't know that Jeff would want to talk to us about this anyway other than to shoot off a tweet and talk about talk about whatever he's feeling and if he genuinely feels that way that's fine but then I think he fundamentally misunderstands what our job is in the coverage of him so if you want better coverage play better football and don't you know expect external media team media can back you all they want blindly that's the job right if you're an employee of the franchise then you're expected you know to hold the company line and that's all well and good and your teammates will continue to support and continue to heat Praise on this but if I have questions about why they signed Jamal Adams what he's going to do and how healthy he's going to be how impactful he's going to be here and you think that that's you know we're we're posing those questions because we hate you then I I think that's a pretty soft position by Jeff Simmons and that's not that's not something that I would expect of a veteran team leader one to acknowledge that publicly two to you know put out some kind of Cry for Help why do you guys hate us it's just it's it's kind of like that Novak uh or uh the I always mispronounce his name but the Joker right at Wimbledon where he's he's wagging a finger at the crowd afterwards because he thinks he's being booed when his opponent I think is named like run or Rooney and they're like R right like a Bruce Springsteen concert when they go Bruce they're not booing Bruce Springsteen even though it sounds like booze so The Joker Is is chastising the crowd afterwards saying oh no no no no I I knew that they were booing me they need to be better they need to show more Clash man shut up and go play and I'm not I'm not one of these shut up and dribble people but like if you if you feel that you are being hated upon play better that's the best way to shut people up that's the best way to get better coverage be a better football team be a better player and I don't think that's fair I don't think that's unfair criticism of Jeff Simmons and I don't know that he would appreciate that one way or the other but I just I thought that was I thought that was very very whiny I thought that was very whiny today and that's that's not I don't that's not who Jeff Simmons is which is why it surprised me um all right somebody says well when Buck gets a black eye we'll know why I don't think J Will Greenway says he's going to be in in your living room tonight listen Jeff I think Jeff understands how this works I don't know that I know he's gonna be uh I know he's gonna be on the Morning Show on 1045 The onone on Monday and I haven't texted uh the the guys and gals from the morning show yet but I would like them to ask him this question on my behalf or on their behalf that doesn't have to come directly from me but I'd genuinely like to know hey Jeff based on that tweet what do you think job of media is uh because there just seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding there and you know whether however he wants to acknowledge that or however he wants to think about that is just a just it's it could have been done better is all I'm saying uh Taylor as her says 50 bucks as it was a PK tweet yeah he probably good pretty good betting odds between him and stelman you probably a pretty good betting odds but like I mean Stillman was the only one that I saw that was hyper critical of this I made a face like I smelled something bad when they signed him but that's only because they needed safety help and they signed at a linebacker to do it that's kind of where we're at with this uh Frankie says uh let's see Buck sucks uh Jeff is right and I hope he's talking about you bu oh okay Frankie I'm I'm so I'm so uh uh hurt by your criticism and and your uh your lack of understanding about what the job is as well because clearly you're not as tough as your football team is about criticism people that and this is how I know I'm getting old or older right I'm going to be 31 in in nine days it just hurts me to say that I'm now in my 30s and I'm just aging year after year you guys can see the Grays right it's tough but it's how I know I'm getting older because I miss players who understood how this works right and I think in a postco era where a lot of these guys didn't have to deal with us in locker rooms for a long time and didn't understand the dynamic uh I I miss players like delay Walker Wesley Woodyard Jerel Casey Brian arpo Taylor lean AJ Brown not that long ago but guys who understood how this how this Dynamic works not that it's media versus players but that your job as a player is to perform media is there to analyze and criticize after the fact what went wrong what went right and to ask you the questions about it that there is nothing personal about the dynamic unless you want to make it personal and so the fact that Frankie is making it personal because he's soft and Jeff is a little bit in his feelings today about it which I'm I'm a bit surprised by but I feel like is a bit sof I mean not a bit soft I think it's a very soft position by Jeff Simmons and and you know I if the next time I have the opportunity to have a conversation with Jeff maybe he wants to have the conversation with me maybe he doesn't I'm sure he doesn't want to talk to any of us at any given point but even then like the fact that younger players treat it like players versus Media when that's never been the Dynam dnamic and the opportunity to or the the ability to understand that to compartmentalize that it seems that's been lost in the last couple of years and you know I think I think everybody could be a little thicker skinned on a regular basis and that's how I know I'm getting old uh Timothy favor says AJ br oh did I say yeah AJ's not a AJ's not a good example of that AJ AJ batt is thin skinned the player as uh as as I have covered in my career nobody nobody tweets and deletes faster than AJ Brown to and you know to his credit he's he's he's always always wears his heart on his sleeve AJ but AJ's one of those you know I mean I know AJ's 27 28 now too uh but he he is definitely one of those younger generation Tick Tock generation types um that seems to uh you know that seems to get a little bit to in their feelings when it just fundamentally don't understand that not all of us are here to patch you on the back every time you do something good bad or different that's not how this works anyway so that's going to do it for us tonight here on the prime time program that's going to do it for us this week uh we'll do a 615 sessions tomorrow I'll uh see if ton Davenport is available he of course broke that news so we'll talk about the offse we've been taking a break on the 615 sessions because there have been for news but now that there's actual news we'll bring back the podcast and get it ramped up ahead of training camp with like I said 12 days to go 12 days days to go before we report it will be uh it will be a fun time and certainly they have a lot of personalities to talk to and we'll see how those personalities actually play themselves out on the football field I will see you guys tomorrow morning at 10: am on 1045 The Zone we'll have Coach Dave mcginness to talk about it we'll have the Hitman Blain Bishop a safety himself to talk about the signing and it'll be a great time and uh yeah look forward to the 615 sessions tomorrow I'll let you know when TD if TD is going to be able to make an appearance I'll text him right now see you go home go home go home you're embarrassing nville go home [Applause]
