game where the results will be remembered for a lifetime as we'll see the number eight team in the country the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets taking on a fellow ACC opponent the Virginia Tech Hoke for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started [Applause] the hes will kick it away to start us off on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the yellow jackets offense is on the field for the first time today and the adrenaline is puming on overdrive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you Bob and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just football the give to the back and he's brought to the ground but not before he gets enough the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs looking for a crease to the left and a nyd gain on first down leaves him with second and short we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David and the express is wide open inside the tag he'll be sto just short of the end zone but they'll have it first and goal well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game and he takes it in for the score touchdown yellow jackets on attempt the try and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing a very efficient five play scoring drive it was closed out by the short yardage touchdown and he'll just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 so Virginia Tech's offense has its first opportunity of the day and there's no doubt guys we will be focused on these star Playmakers on the outside I'm curious to see how much man coverage we're going to see today I don't know if either of these defense is confident enough to go monoo with these two dudes on the field they're two of the best in the nation these cornerbacks aren't looking for manto man coverage I can promise you that like give me some help over here but we're going to see some split screens and we're going to see who had more catches who had more yards we're definitely going to be breaking that down this game and here comes the offense on second down wide receiver now comes in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land the biggest lie college football coaches tell is nameless faceless opponent David game like this you know their name and you know their face you know them well and it does mean just a little bit more because it's bragging rights like the rivalries matter so much all throughout the year all the fans talking about this game in particular that's why it means more and that's why these players will be jacked out of their minds gets off his first one of the day he was called on five times in the victory last week slips through the line wide open and it's a foot race he will score touchdown George attack a dynamic EXP return the sliver of daylight exploding through it just vaporizing and reappearing on the other side and housing it and Putt returners are so quick you can play Touch football in an elevator with them and lose you can't even get your hand on those so quick so elusive does such a great job making people Miss but still going full speed up the field to get all the way to the end zone and score the TD the kickoff team is out there after that punt return for a touchdown they'll try to pin him deep and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return and Virginia Tech sends the offense onto the field to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing an all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense he make the stop after a gain of three to the 31 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the off and the ball Falls incomplete fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he only needs a SLI of daylight that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yard you can and help out the offense the rambling wreck offense rolls back onto the field and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second second down looking for a man it's Kane and they're on him immediately down goes a quarterback well we knew coming into this game this defense had some matchups they felt really good about up front and they won one right there getting to the quarterback creating a negative play and they're going to need these guys to start winning more of those because they are finding themselves in a hole here early in the game and sure t there to keep him from getting to the first down [Applause] marker no return coming here fair catch is signal for and may just shy of the 30 guys we've reached the end of the quarter and Georgia Tech has the lead they came out and jumped on them early in the first let's take a break and look at the first quarter stats and we're about to get another look at this h offense the League's not insurmountable just down 14- nothing but David you don't score here and it could get a little tricky fast if you don't score here if you don't possess the football and put something together to give your defense a little bit of a blow it's not the ideal start but it ain't like this game's late in the football game create some momentum here in the second quarter yeah momentum is a real thing in college football this team needs the juju to get going that first quarter is one they'd love to forget so find your best Playmakers now get them isolated get them the football and let him go to work finds his spot in the middle so important to convert these third downs and they get it done they'll have it at the 42 and the hes want to crank the tempo he's going to pass that's caught it's toon still running at the 40 he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one it will be a first down the hokes are moving quickly down the field many times the hes have had a dynamic threat running the ball at quarterback but you got to be efficient like this in the passing game no doubt and you got to have some balance on offense you got to be able to make those plays down the field in the passing game to make you honored get some guys out of the box so it's not just running quarterback all the time second and short now after that completion looking downfield it's drones throws to the tight end he's got he thought he might turn that into a score but the defense able to wrestle him down short they'll stop him at the three they try to power it in Into The End Zone he goes touchdown Virginia t a much need in life from this offense as they tried to cut away at this lead no doubt needed something to go right you're down you got to make plays you got to get your team back in great start keep chipping away about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll bring it back from inside to five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense gets it out fast and good coverage by the defense just a short gain quarterback empties his back field on second down they'll take to the air finds his man down the middle he almost pick up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short to the ground to try to move the chains he'll move it up to the 37 yd line and it'll be a first down really nice job on third down by this offense this offense has struggled on third Downs throughout the season not even in the top 50 but you know what when you make it third and short you can when you have the Run pass option and you're not predictable you can be more successful so let's see if this offense can continue to put themselves in good positions and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one line getting set on second down he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Haynes didn't get a whole lot of yardage before he was stopped but using the running back in a short passing game gives him a first down we've reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break the yellow jackets with the first and 10 looking to move it through the air hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one I like offenses being creative I'm not sure if that was the best place to call that play I think this offense needs to think about just doing things a little bit more by the book they've got a lot of good Playmakers you don't have to reinvent the wheel this early in the game they finally Coral him and he turns that into a big gain and a first down this is why everybody grows up and wants to be an offensive coordinator and not a defensive coordinator because he can do that he drops back he's supposed to pass but you know what I'll just scramble around and I I'll just go get plenty of yards and pick them up and put them down and I'm faster than most of your other guys too so good luck stop I love that play call and I love the timing of the pre- snap motion because the quart was able to get it to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to use his speed nice job with the pre- snap motion and time really good defense you know you're trying to stay as close as you can to all these targets and most importantly those open field tackles and getting them on the ground as soon as they catch it that's a major deal for defenses and that was a good example thereof nothing to with the football and he just throws it away it'll be third down the offensive line has got to give him at least a little bit of time to survey the field he had no chance that time getting hit almost immediately after he got the ball on Third and long trying to have a big completion here and the pass is intercepted trying to take it back and they capitalized not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position I love the job by the coaching staff there defensively matching the Personnel of the offense putting their dime package out on the field so you bring out the extra defensive back you're anticipating a pass perfect timing to run that person out and you get the pick a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half to throw it's drones got his man down the middle they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half on Third and short they'll try to throw for it finds a tight end quick timeout call by the offense after the play the offense has it now at the 48 yd line first and 10 he wants to throw makes the grab he's to the races he'll be brought down at the three yd line an explosive play in the passing game has him on the doorstep wide out in motion wants to go up top Let it Fly stag In The End Zone touch down H yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you tra a little bit in the first half stay calm but this passing game can continue to heat up look out for second half so here comes the kickoff after the touchdown and the last thing you need right before the half is to give up a big return he'll start the return inside his spot and the returner will be knocked down just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime give to the running back banging slithering whatever it takes to get that ball up to the 32 the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half one more snap coming before halftime quarterback reacting to what the D is showing wants to throw it's Kane he tosses one high and deep down the left side he's got it inside the 15 touchdown yellow jackets made the snag and strolled his way into the end zone this offense is so good man they can hurt you in so many different ways and they do it so quick so explosive they can put small Drives together Big D together they've really had a great year and that's why they're a top 10 offense lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point the score is now 21- 14 first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update phas what an environment there today all the animosity and flat out hatred that comes with a good old fash fashion rivalry game on display in that first half and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kid's been everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats that said let's get back to the field and our guys in the booth to see who comes out on top of this rivalry contest first play from scrimmage here in the second half and they'll keep it on the ground just broke the tackle and still on his feet and he's down at the 41 that's a first down you're down obviously the half we had a conversation we got to come out and put points on the board and Jesse it looks like they're going to start with the ground end and I love this David too regardless of whether they're losing or they're winning come out here and try to be the most physical here in the second half get this run game established and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell nice solid form tackle from this sophomore and the hokes in the hurry up to the air It's brones Quickly complete that'll get the job done and move the chains and they'll Mark the ball at the 45 really nice job there by the quarterback understanding it's Blitz and not just that it's Blitz but knowing whether it's man coverage or Zone coverage behind the blitz you still got to know where your answer is going to be based on what the defense is doing in the back end and he add the answer to the test right there and yeah that's kind of surpris and we talked about this before the game one of the big matchups run the football against a defense that's been susceptible against the Run throughout the season but this offense just can't find a way to get it going and I'm surprised but now what's your counter punch how are you going to get the ground game going so far not a lot of success they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I got to be honest I am shocked at just how well the defense has played in this game especially stopping the Run we've talked about St I istically how they've struggled this season but they have put the clamps down in this one and they're just playing with a ton of intensity and the defense gets to the quarterback and the defensive coordinator was really pleased with his unit after registering three sacks last week he wanted to add a few more wrinkles in their Blitz packages to see if they could build on that in this game so far they hadn't gotten to the QB until that last play just now now let's find out picking Frank up the the Georgia Tech offense rolls back onto the field Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns it's really important for them moving forward to open Runway ahead and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end see if they can turn this drive into points they've got it first and 10 at the 50 at the 40 there he goes and there they go again another hug gain on the ground he now has 106 yd on the ground in this one and now sets his sights on a 1,000 yd season this offense just gets a bolt of energy when they get a play like that now they're in the Red Zone first and 10 from the 20 trying to cap this drive with the pass and that one's incomplete wor taking a shot there but couldn't hook up I love the decision by the quarterback found the open man just don't love the throw got to be a little bit more accurate make it easier on your Target misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air snagged in the middle it's Singleton he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short a nice job by the QB there timing out that drag throw it's Zone coverage so he's got to make sure he gets it to his receiver in a window to and he'll step into the end zone touchdown attack well I think the coaching staff and fans knew that this guy was going to play a big role in this offense this year but I don't know if anyone expected him to have this kind of season statistically guys that's his 20th rushing touchdown on the season and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor in the studio fellas I think at least a portion of your audience will have an interest in the one that just finished up Michigan left little doubt you know this of the ma and blue can hang with any of the teams of the past and remember this is a program with multiple national titles the circle of life in college football where one team moves on feeling like kings and the other heads home licking its wounds yeah how about that sounds making more of those Lane stadium and this incredible crowd is going to be going nuts we've called games here plenty of times in the past this is one of the best venues in all of college football this guy right now is heating up at the QB position watch out it's going to be a Sonic I bet that running back's eyes got so big when he gets that hand off going to the right he sees the huge holes yes please the defense just didn't flow quickly enough all of the blockers had leverage on their men and that defensive line has to get off the ball a little bit better get some penetration to stop that outside R he is going nowhere sto at the line of scrimmage defense is about firing off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run guys we've reached the end of the quar Georgia Tech has the lead and as we switch ends of the field let's take a quick look at the national [Music] rankings as we start the fourth quarter it'll take a pretty sizable comeback to win this one we'll get this quarter going with a second down play looking to pass it's drones unloads to the Wi out and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long try to convert through the air the sweet feet keeping the play alive he gets the job done picking up the first down then getting down that's so frustrating I I got you in the perfect situation I get you in third and long more ictable I know it's going to be a pass and then Houdini pulls the rabbit out of the Hat makes something happen scrambles around gets the first down goodness gracious this guy is so good kept it on the ground on first down see if they stick with that plan on second he's looking to throw here comes the rush and they've got him wrapped up at the 28 well the problem for this offense now late in the game trailing by a bunch of points is that the defense knows they're going to the football and right now offensively they cannot protect the edge you saw the speed coming from the outside he was able to get to the quarterback for another negative play and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and defensively this is exactly what you want right you got the big lead so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eye on the quarterback rally to the football gang tackle you're going to win this game down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down and they finally make the tackle but this will be a pretty easy conversion for this offense the hokes come to the line in the hurry up was the pass got it behind the line it's toon and a quick completion an even quicker l the defense was right there to knock him [Applause] down wants to fire on second down dances away they won't let him in he had a nose for that in zone but he will be stopped short and they'll try to bite a chunk out of this lead on Third and goal looking for a man it's drones and he's got it touchdown the attack oh Uncle Mo has changed Sidelines look out brother here's what happens right something happens get you close in the ball game the defense needs to come out here get a stop get that ball back for the offense UNC lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive and he passes on the touch back here he comes not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be sto the 15 the rambling wreck offense rolls back onto the field now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points David but they can't go too fast because their defense right now is tired and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about we have arrived at the two-minute warning a one possession game as this offense tries to hold on they'll run it to keep the clock moving they sto him after a short game probably just wanted to mitigate the losses with fourth down coming defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he's got great speed the solid return there off some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely and Virginia Tech sends the offense onto the field these are the games these are the moments this is the opportunity for the finish that people remember in rivales like this one and those highlights that are shown for years and years to come these Big Time moments Palmer coming down to the wire who steps up and makes the big time play and this is why you lift the weights in the off seon this is why you do all the G in all the Sprints for moments like this game on the line in one of the biggest games of the year still some work to do after that last completion it's second down dropping back it's drones receiver wasn't ready for the throw incomplete this late in the game it's go time I got to have a score I'm not worried about downs I'm going through my two-minute script we know what's coming we practiced this all week it's second down incomplete pass go to third down we need to go for it on fourth down this off that high energy up and try to run these plays fast and this junior loves to show off that big arm they'll throw it on first down a shot toward the end zone and it's picked off at the goal line that's a way to make a stand it's such a fine line offensively late in the game you got to score you got to make big plays but you can't turn the football over big time mistake this one might cost him running to the left and the ball's loose and the defense jumps on it they get that turnover offensive players when they got the ball in the trying to make plays right trying to make you miss there's nothing better than closing that Gap and sticking that head right in that guy's chest and calls an opponent from the gun running back on the Move Nowhere to Run on that one he loses four on the carry quick timeout call by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible a negative play to open the Drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 he's looking to throw got it in the middle it's Jenning that throw and catch gets him down to the six and the defense is running out of answers boy they'd love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal looking to throw for it got it and he'll get out of bounds it's a first down there in plus territory and now threatening to get the score he knew exactly what they needed there made the play and got out of bounds to stop the clock and you got to keep this turbo mode on right we got to keep going fast the clock's running down fourth quarter need a score great execution to get the first down we need a lot more of this on this drive looking to throw it's R going for six into the end zone for a touchdown and now just one point away from a and great execution that is how it's done late in the football game now all you need is that extra point bring the kicker out there this is what you do just like practice knock it through the uprights tie this football game and we might be looking at overtime soon he'll take a knee it's a touch back save every second he can as they try to put together this final drive George Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense on the move it's Haynes they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and sometimes for the defense it just takes one play right to create some momentum obviously this guy's been eating him up he's got over 100 yards rushing on the day but finally David they get something positive here in the Run game defensively but you kind of know that coming in he's going to get hit such a great back and he's had a great day need to put more plays together like that right there well I know it hasn't been a tremendous day statistically for this quarterback but his decision making has been good enough to win this game hasn't thrown a lot of TD so far but when things aren't open he throws it away like on that play right there he's not putting his team in a bad spot and that's why they still have a shot to walk out of here with a double another incompletion on third down and the yellow jackets will send out the punt unit he gets a block working his way on the return up to the 40 yd line before he stopped and we're about to get another look at this hoki offense now they need to pick up just a few more yards here to get within the kicker range David no doubt ree we got to take care of the football but we're trying to get as many yards as we can Jesse let's make this thing as easy as possible on our kick you're right and listen you've got some time too so you don't got to panic here just pick the right play and go execute let's see what they've got on second down to the air it's drones that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds this late in the game fourth quarter go time we got to make plays we got to go to those things that really really work well we can't waste too many more Downs I know it's third down coming up but we got to this thing in Full Throttle and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up and the hokes will call on their punt team fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt and the punt hits at the six and they can't down it and it'll be a Touchback offense set on first down he's looking to throw it quick strike complete and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big kick up on that one well guys let's play some more headed to overtime and this just feels right both of these teams going back and forth so of course David this thing needs to get decided in 02 let's see who's better short amount of time to do it a couple possessions probably maybe one possession each who's the better team they'll snap it from the 25 here on first down he's going to pass he's got his man they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down the yellow jackets looking to take advantage of this Red Zone trip it's complete he's down at the one and they almost had the touchdown pass on that one here comes first and goal as they try to strike here in overtime trying to barge in touchdown Yellow Jackets they jump on top here in OT this extra point would give them a seven-point lead in OT and the extra point splits the uprights there up 3528 well let's count them up one two three three is the magic number for touchdown yeah it's as easy as ABC goodness gracious he's been getting whatever he wants whenever he wants however he wants I'm not want to change something up or maybe focus on that guy that's getting the football a lot and scoring steps away keep headed to the end zone good run on the play and he slides to avoid the hit first and goal in overtime and they have to answer with a touchdown quarterback on the keeper touchdown Hy they got the score now to see if they go for the win or the tie first off really impressed by how physical this guy is still running the ball this late in the game and now it's decision time you want to play and safe kick the extra point or are you feeling aggressive to go for two points and I think this is all about how you feel about your defense and how you feel about this game extending do do I have a chance do I have better players am I more ftig all this has to come into account because you got a chance right now with one play to win this football game one extra period didn't get it done and we start the second OT off the play fake on first down to throw blasted as he lets it go hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense looking for room it's toon and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good gain before the stop is made after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains the hes have it with a first intent quick release on the RPO gets it inside the five down to the four it'll be first and goal this thing has been back and forth now first and goal as they try to take the lead in overtime number two got his man quickly touchdown Virginia TCH got it in to take the lead here in the second OT this dude is just slicing and dicing this defense into little tiny pieces carving them up completely knows exactly what he's getting had so much success today got to find a way to make these quarterbacks feel more uncomfortable now on first down they need to answer with a touchdown they'll come out on this drive and let it RI cat open down the middle and the first guy couldn't get him but the second one does but not until he picked up the first down after moving the sticks with the pass here we are on first down little touch pass to the receiver touchdown George attack with that now a two-point conversion away from triple overtime Big Time Players make big plays in big games man and it seems like each and every week this guy has an opportunity in the end zone he's coming up with the big one that time great job focusing and concentration defense not able to cover him that's his now 10th receiving touchdown on the [Music] year so here we go doing two-point conversions from this point forward with Jet Sweep pass they got it done a great play call to give them the lead by two so now they'll need to answer to keep this game alive to the air it's drones finds his big tight end he's into the end zone two-point conversion is good and we got a tie game so here we go again and we'll see just how deep that two-point conversion bag really is he wants to throw it they got it done with the two and now they hold the edge deep in overtime this will be the ball game make it play on miss it and lose to the air that's it that's the ball game the two-point try is a winner in OT this is one of the best games we've called this season a thriller and it comes down to the wire here in overtime I can watch these two teams play another six times this year just back and forth trading blows offenses coming up with explosive plays big hits all over the field David this is what college football's all no doubt I love your excitement where's the defensive mentions some good defense out there too there homeboy I know it's not just offenses they get you excited some defensive plays too nip and Tuck
