go it's the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks first pitch coming your way next just about set to go and on the mound here today Zack Gall what do we have on him well he comes at hitters with a five pitch mix so for him it's always interesting to see how he utilizes those weapons he may lean on one or two pitches depending on how things are going and how things are working but if he can control four or even five of those offerings look out hitters it's going to be a tough day he's really going to be able to keep those guys off balance now a screamer into the Outfield and there's a hit so man on base to start the inning good timed it up any better than that I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league just a nice line drive into center field and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion and here's Cory Seager to hit and a foul ball and now the o1 and that's in for a [Applause] strike just misses the mark outside the Zone it's a good take and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball two SIM gets his lead at first nobody out pitch misses and now it's three and two got him looking and he didn't like the call well that curveball had some pretty good break to it as you can see the hitter just locked up a little bit thought it was a great pitch to hit but sometimes you're looking for something else and you can't pull the trigger and now the right fielder Adis Garcia fast in for a strike going one he's a bad ball hitter so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the Zone he still might beat you not an easy out by any means gallon checks on the runner Simeon back in and strike [Applause] two the pitch swing and a miss dropped him out two away all interesting looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single backto back strikeouts so they haven't been able to move that runner up get him in scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring I tell you good job so far on the mound he just needs one more out and now Evan Carter one of the best in the game against right-handed pitching the lefties however that's another story singy is this more common today guys really only succeeding against pitchers throwing from a specific side I think it's because you just don't get a this one swung on and hit well way back there got all of that one and they jump out front it's two nothing you can't ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first at bat to give your team the lead cutter inside can be a bat breaker you have to catch it out front to get the barrel to it does a really good job recognizing it early getting the bat head to it and hitting it out of the ballpark Josh Young in the box now no balls in a strike two down nobody up swaging a grounder foul first Spas side the wind and the pitch going to count one and two really good take especially with two strikes and another ball the two know that he doesn't give up a whole lot but sometimes guys get a little too comfortable and don't have an urgency to score runs you have to make sure you put him in a situation where he can get the W but also you guys can cruise to the finish line and not have to worry about a comeback in the end two outs Bas is empty and now it's Christian Walker pulls that one foul two out spaces empty on the of the inning here's Nathaniel low one of the things amazing with Zack think about the players he's been traded with and four in December of 17 he and Sandy alcantra were dealt to Miami from the Cardinals for Marcel Ozuna then ultimately in July of 19 he went to Arizona for jazz Chisum and the righty deals and there's a foul ball and a ball in two strikes knocks that one away and we'll do it zone frustrating end to the atat for the hitter and I'm sure that's going to sit on him for a little while you want to be ready to hit the fast ball sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there and a foul ball and the pitch in for a strike and the count is 0 and two this lineup's going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound I mean he is just mowing him down he's settling in you got to make him uncomfortable maybe step out of the box call timeout do whatever it takes and no throw for some reason as he reaches first that's got to be an error so he's able to reach first base despite the strike out and that extends the inning kind of a tough turn of events for the defense there yeah that's maybe a little bit of a morale killer for for a second you think you're about to go hit but really quickly you have to refocus and be ready for the next play we'll see if they can work around it man at first digging in it's the Speedy outfielder Alec Thomas ball one no strikes and a good eye there and that misses upstairs now three and0 Suarez off of first with two away breaking ball through there for a strike two outs foul one left for Arizona and they're down two nothing new inning getting started here's the second basement Marcus Simeon and a pitch boo how good was Marcus Simeon in 2023 named a finalist for the MVP award in the American League after producing a season with 100 RBI and 826 Ops and 29 home runs on top of all that is Rangers won the World Series righty delivers and that's outside fouls one off two pitchers work up in the zone these days that's a devastating combination Carter batting for the second time and that's strike one swing in a Miss as he was out front that time goes down looking one left for Texas but they hold the two nothing lead back here at Chase Field set for the bottom of the third and it's lordis Gorel Jr and here it comes hard ground ball base KN man aboard on the leadoff single well that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there there's nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield that was ripped cut out in front and didn't get under it like he would have liked but definitely put a good swing on it next to hit for Arizona haraldo Pomo that one fouled off line drive and that should be extra bases guel round second on his way to third headed for the plate he'll score easily and it's a onun game puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI I'll tell you man it's such a good feeling when you smoke a line drive into the Gap like that I mean sure home runs are King but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter more than a bult the other way so back to the top of the Arizona lineup and here is Corin Carroll and that skips in [Applause] dirt Pomo at second with nobody out next pitch misses and it's two and one right through there for a strike the pitch that one just misses that's a really good take catel Marte in theond deck Circle outside and that is ball [Applause] four here's catel Marte thisat might not seem like a huge deal right now but baseball is a game of moments and what happens here could change everything that one finds the zone and that's strike one there was a high velocity fast in the zone I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter he's got good stuff pitch inside the know and trusted swinging a Miss as he was late left field Carter moving under it brings it in Christian Walker stands in now for the diamond packs 0 for one he grounded out and his first it back fast ball for a strike the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot just off the Inside Edge Fly ball down the line bounces over the wall in foul ground it's an automatic double as a run scores on the play well everyone is thinking Ed would the runner have scored from first if the ball stayed in the park we'll never know but they do get a run across with a chance to do more damage in the inning here's Jack Peterson golden opportunity right here swing and a miss and one two runs across in the inning here in the last half of the third there's the strike missed inside with the curb righty to the plate outside low and that's ball two they tried to get him to go chase the pitch down and away but would and just misses with that one that was pretty close on the inside and obviously he's not too happy with the call out there on the mound as he lets the Umpire hear it a little bit this is where you can't let that frustration compound itself though you got to let it out and move on two on one out hit hard should be extra bases one runs in another comes in to score and it's 42 and jock is going to have himself a double well there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring it back yeah he's been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself one out runner at second next to hit Gabrielle Moreno drive and it's stay Fair around third and that rolls into the corner he'll score and they're up by three safely into second he's got a double waste no time there he really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found way to keep it from slicing foul one thing that was great about the approach his head was down all the way through the pitch and that's how you do it one out runner at second AU Dan Suarez now at the plate reached on a drop third strike his first time up the middle Simeon throws to First and there's two away Alec Thomas now fly to left his first time swings through that one out in front that time activity in the bullpen Yer Rodriguez preparing to come on if needed Latz getting loose as well two outs comes up empty that's strike two from a pitcher's perspective that's a beautiful splitter right there as a hitter you don't like it but he's commanded his fast ball and out of that same tunnel that splitter comes and the bottom just falls out of it there's a swing and a drive Taris ranging back pulls it in on the warning track but nine batters hit in the inning five come around to score three Innings complete it's the Diamondbacks five and the Rangers two and we're back out to the fourth here's Josh Young the pitch upstairs well these Rangers doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient bats out of them they're doing a good job of working the pitch count and they've been able to push a couple of runs across the score as well and he deals that's hard hit in the line Carol calls it in and there's one away still relatively early but with the pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game Nathaniel low up to hit he reached on a his first time foul ball there one down base is empty swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left Center got it really had to move for that grab and there's two down every day during batting practice these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps they practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly Heim takes a ball as he stands in for the second time two down nobody on top half of inning number four next offering is downstairs swing and a miss nice chance change up next offering is in for a strike love how vocal the Umpire is today no doubt in The Hitter mind catcher mind and even the pitcher mind as to the conviction in the call two down fouled off again and it remains three and two cuts and misses it's a strike out nothing doing for the Rangers and the deficit remains 52 bottom of the inning here's lordis Gorel Jr the pitch Now One Missed You know these Dbacks showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one not only have they already put up a bunch of runs on the board but they've also made the starter work really hard out there and there's a ball like I said his pitch count is high so I got to ECT they'll be tur into their bull pin sooner than they had hoped 3-1 is on the way and a foul ball payoff pitch foul ball and it remains a full count and they'll do it again the wi of the pitch swing and that ball smashed on the line Carter makes the catch and there's one away not fooled at all right there he was clearly all over it but sometimes you h too hard and right at someone you're looking for one of those bloop hits to get a knocked sometimes ptoo stands in now and watches strike one and that one fouled off o and two now just missed clearly he hasn't had it in this game and looks like sooner than later they're going to have to go to the bullpen and delivers outside Bas is empty one away we're here in the bottom of the fourth that one misses Full Count now still just the second batter of the end and on the he's already thrown 13 pitches they got him working hard out there popped up Seager drifts towards it caral it two down back to the top of the lineup and now the center fielder Corbin Carroll fast ball for a strike and he swings and lifts one to deep center field to varis going back pulls it in on the warning track so they make short work of them there we played Four it's the Diamondbacks five and the Rangers two back here in the desert top five John shabi with Chris Singleton and leading it off leot Taris the pitch that's in there well these Rangers simply put are producing a lot of quality swings they've hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there's nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact that's almost always going to lead to positive results wouldn't chase that time swings and misses struck him out oh there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outfielder you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach base hard grounder into the outfield for a knock so that will bring up the top of the order with one away everything came together for him just kept it simple played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there's just no one there to knock it down so the batting order turns over now here is Marcus Simeon this one in the air Suarez settles underneath it pulls it down and he makes the catch two away now it's Cory Seager one for two you have to be careful throwing and breaking pitches even in an O count he loves going after the off speed stuff and he's really good at hitting it swings through that he might want to steal second in this spot but he's dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game he needs to pick his spot very wisely the short stop takes the ball oh you got to give him credit out there on the mound this outing started off a little shaky but he's found a way to settle in and turn this into a pretty good start kind of shows you a lot about his mental makeup as a pitcher got him swinging Rangers leave one they Trail at 5-2 we head to the bottom of the fifth an outstanding hitter in catel Marte as he turns on the rubber with that good live arm delivers swing and a pop up in foul ground brings it in and there's one down that was a good hard fast with nice ride up in the zone right there hitter looked like he was on it but I think that velocity at the end just beat him instead of a line drive or something hit deep it's a pop up and an easy out for the defense Walker in the Box again takes a strike pulled down the line this one hammered it's foul well he was ready for that fast ball right there really turned on it hit it hard had the distance but just too much hook to it so might want to make a little bit of an adjustment let it travel a little more and see if you can keep that thing Fair Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter yeah he's been very frugal today economical with the pitch count and Jack Peterson stands in on the corner for a strike Peterson multitime Allstar 31 years old he joined the team as a free agent next offering is in for a strike and there's a rocket into the Outfield around first heading for two safe at second he has had such a good day today I don't think he's going to want to leave when it's over couple of doubles today for the [Applause] DH so man aboard here's the catcher Gabrielle Moreno RBI knocked for him last time now a chance to Drive in another run and that's in for a strike and ball one swing and a miss and that strike two nothing but curveball so far in the atat kind of makes it difficult as a hitter to know what to look for because you start wondering if he'll keep coming with it or if they'll try to speed you up line drive base hit around third now a long throw home safe well done drives in the run just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field everything was on time he stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launch that one into Center here comes the skipper and we're going to see a pitching change in this spot that'll be it for Nathan avaldi and as he heads off we'll step aside for a minute back with a new pitcher after this break taking over on the mount for the Rangers Yer Rodriguez still pretty early in the ball game so this Bullpen has some work ahead of him best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him two outs runner at first aeno Suarez up to the plate now and a good fast ball to start him off at strike one one run acrossing the frame so far last half of inning number five next offering upstairs right-handed reliever and down on strikes he goes and that'll do it but they up up one run on the RBI single now a 62 ball game it's Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark top of the sixth inning leading off Adis Garcia here comes a pitch just missed they've got a potent lineup and when you think about teams capable of in from this kind of deficit they're right at the top of the list and now two and nothing struggled a little bit in this one couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count at two and0 this one in the air Walker under it and puts the squeeze on that one one down digging in Evin Carter he's already homered here in this one and there's the strike and a strike in there now there's a pitch we haven't seen in a while it's going to be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whenever he wants got him looking that's a strike out now the third baseman Josh Young and first off ring is fouled off young tries to hold up appeal to First no swing Gary Simmons with the call two down nobody on and we're the top half of the six the one-1 is fouled off that's to third Suarez throw to first in time and it's a one two three inning nothing doing for the offense that time 78 n to up in the home half of the inning it's the Diamond Back six and the Rangers two back here at Chase Field now Alec Thomas the pitch and that one just misses a ball and no strikes well these Diamondbacks digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking they have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far and that tells me seen the ball out of the pitcher's hand really well kicks and fires that one misses three and O with all those extra base hits it's easy to think we're going to see that Trend continue the rest of the game they seem to be really locked in at the plate kick sandal and there's Ball Four that could be a tone Setter for the inning four straight pitches and the leadoff batters on BAS we'll see if the next Guy waits until there's a strike before he takes theat off the shoulder first here's [Music] guel Rodriguez checks on First and he's back in easily base runner with a oneway lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher's move had no intent of stealing on that pitch first offering and it just misses and another ball that's down and in nobody out runner at first a swing and a miss and that's strike one wow good luck catching up to that one ripped on a line Carter makes the catch man that's one of those ADV bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything swing and a popup as this one sized up Carter snags it this is Corbin Caroll and the first pitch misses for ball one late with the swing there good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it that's to third gloves it on the dive not in time he's safe that's staying within his game right there I mean this Speedster gets the infield single and now he's on base to possibly do some damage I love seeing what guys like this can do to disrupt the game once they get in position to do so catel Marte up to the fouled off he was late the Dbacks trying to break this one open here in the bottom of the six ball one there the one- one is fouled off two on two outs that one is absolutely belted and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases one run is in now two run score it's 82 picks himself up a couple of ribes absolutely hammered that baseball very loud coming off the bat 107 was the exit velocity and at that speed it's going to be a great result more often than not man at second here with two away Christian Walker stands in now for the Diamondbacks just missed and the one and a foul ball at the belt and fires and now two balls in a strike he's getting a little frustrated out there on the mound getting hit around a little bit let's see if he can settle himself down Marte at second with two down that one's in there that's strike two swing and a miss struck him out so it's two runs on two hits no errors and a runner left seventh inning coming up it's the Diamondbacks eight and the Rangers two we go to the top of the seven and here's the first basan Nathaniel low the wi to the pitch ah that hit him and the lead off man is aboard to start the inning well definitely a breakdown in his mechanics on that one he just lost the handle and ended up way off Target himim the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one so far this guy's been able to tease the strike zone gets those swings and misses somebody's going to have to shorten up be a little more patient and make this guy work in the zone a little more that's in there and it's nothing in two well the late off man gets on you want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two and there's a hit lead Runner touches second headed for third and now Runners at the corners nobody out so much a good hitting is finding holes in the defense that's why you're always thinking line drive into the Gap those kinds of swings really boost your confidence leot taras will hit next in the air on the infield Marino settles under it and there's one down two on with one out at the plate Ezekiel Duran and a foul ball two on one out pop foul out of play off to the right the punch out there and there's two away well classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out that fast ball on the pitch before was up it was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can't make contact Simeon in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike on the mound he had a little trouble back in the first but it's been a different story the rest of the way really settled into this outing nicely two outs just off the Inside Edge and that's off the Inside Edge and the count two and one and the pitch on the inside corner for a strike Runners on first and third two away here in the top half of inning number six good eye right there back to work 3-2 now keeps the back going with a foul ball and a 3-2 gets a piece there will do it again good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the atat caught him looking for the K couple of strikeouts with Runners on sometimes you got to really bear down and he did just that nice job of getting out of the jam and out of the inning and we're back now it's the DH Jack Peterson Rodriguez back to work called strike right there meanwhile activity in the bullpen Brock Burke appears to be getting loose Yates also getting ready and the pitch this one ripped but foul to the right the line in the pitch just off the inside corner and the count one and two on jock and another ball Bo he never moved CU he never had time to with that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work away wouldn't chase that time and that's ball for Gabrielle Moreno getting ready to hit he is at the top of the game in terms of Defense at the catching spot and foul ball it's so impressive because these guys have to do so much study and preparation for their pitchers for opposing hitters and really their number one job is to guide that staff through a ball game and so when you also can turn it up offensively and be a force there that is a win-win every manager's dream and there's a hit the throw in not in time he's safe that's back to back singles for him nice line drive to the pull side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the Outfield Jake L gets handed the rock out of the pen I think it's got to be a little tough coming in out of the pen when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard just doesn't have the same intensity to it but he's got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score AIO Suarez up to hit now oh for three with two strikeouts and a ground out that Clips a corner and now the Lefty tapped at the plate but it's a foul ball first and second no outs here the bottom of the seven highfly ball out to left field Carter makes the catch Alec Thomas stands in now for the Diamond Backs not the easiest thing when you're talking about a guy that's you know perhaps was going to be in the rotation maybe a long relief guy to not start an inning to come into an inning with pressure on it and and try to get yourself comfortable left hand batter weights so a foul ball makes it one and two one out Runners at first and second line drive Fair ball coming home and that rolls into the corner one run across picks himself up in RBI that could be a really tough pitch to handle a front door breaking ball but he did a great job staying in there keeping that front shoulder CL you didn't spin off the ball and hook it foul which happened so many times lordis gel J digs in now one for three now highfly ball out to left Center Carter under it and he makes the catch Runner tags for home and now the runner will score from third on a wild throw haraldo Pomo the next to [Applause] hit pitch misses inside one and0 well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't ah that ends the inning so we take a break they put two on the board with a couple of hits no errors and one left we look ahead to inning number eight it's the Diamondbacks 10 and the Rangers two ready to begin the eighth Seager stands in now he's a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today game this guy hits for contact so he delivers average but there's on Bas and slugging too and first off ring is fouled off early in the count you have to be real careful because of that power but then if this hitter gets a strike or two on him he's still very comfortable and because he has the ability to get the barrel to the baseball he's a threat deep into the count as well sharp grounder that's through for a base hit and the lead off man aboard I'm sure he feels really good about that one just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes that's all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole ad dois Garcia stepping in for the Rangers that one ripped but foul Seager gets his lead at first with nobody out righty delivers he really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the Zone he knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone again it's hit hard by a power guy like this that's a nice Miss right there struck him out looking well he's going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one that was his third strike out and this one looking obviously so he's been a little overmatched he's got to find a way just to be more competive up there to play man it first Evan Carter stepping in for the Rangers that's outside and that's ball one and a pitch and that's off the Inside Edge now two and0 the Rangers with a lot of ground to make up and we're in the top of the eighth just missed leftand hitter Waits and he walked him on four pitches he's making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but ball right by him slightly elevated that's a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound see if he continues to climb the ladder foul we'll see another payoff pitch runner at first with no
