so just about set now our starter in this one Tanner BBY Chris he's got the ability to take control of a game when he's out there well incredible Mound presence and he's going to attack hitters you look at that strikeout perine ratio over 10 coming into this start so he's a pitcher that wants the ball he's aggressive he knows that he can get the swing and Miss especially when he needs it most we'll see how effective he is in this one Michael Massie the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one there's the strike pretty rare location right there right down the middle this guy Paints the edges I'm not sure if you're going to see that pitch again as a hitter swing and a pop off in foul ground puts it away for the out and there's one down and here now the lineup for the Royals and one guy who's been great for them Salvador Perez well boo there aren't many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does I mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me I I know it's not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not one out base is [Applause] empty just off the outside edge and it's two and0 right through there for a strike in today's game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they're looking for one two change up call right there excellent pitch selection to go with next offering up stairs three balls one [Applause] strike 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first and next up for the Royals Vinnie pass swinging a foul back that's out of play righty delivers another takes off throw save that's a stolen base I think that Ste kind of sets the tone not just for this game but for the entire series first inning game one so that kind of tells me they're going to be aggressive on offense and try to force the issue whenever they can man it's second that one down the line and foul ball the pitch goes down swinging for the strike out pulled the string on the change up he was able to execute the perfect pitch for that situation had been pounding in with fast balls and then all of a sudden pulls out the change up and has good enough command to make it competitive tell you what varing speeds like that to a hitter can be really really effective and right there you can tell that hitter was just overmatched two outs and one in scoring position base hit center field Here Comes wi around third he will score and the Royals had the lead one nothing puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI these days when you see a ball come off the bat like that the first thing you want to know as a spectator what was the exit velocity 109 in this case I mean that's just impressive and it's so cool we can get that sort of feedback so instantly in today's game two outs runner at first MJ Melendez Chopper to Second jenez throws the first in time and that is that well they pick up one run on the RBI single it's now a one nothing ball game back now at Progressive Field and starting in this one Michael WKA and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the dugout the wi to kick the pitch and that one missing low breaking ball inside and a count two and one the wi to the pitch outside now three and one [Music] this one ripped but foul to the right the wine of the pitch on the ground right side boots it and he's going to make it to First and we'll see how they score it [Applause] and next is the designated hitter in the air right side rro in position squeezes it batting third third here's the Guardians lineup now and Chris this group has been struggling to put up runs lately well they haven't been on base a ton and even when they are they haven't been hitting very well with the runners on base so they need a guy or two to really Step Up have some quality at bats hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this I think if they do the rest of this lineup will follow here's Jose Ramirez swing and a pop up foul territory for the catcher Perez makes the grab and there's two down got the pitch that he wanted just a little bit quick front shoulder open backside collapsed a little bit and the launch angle not where he needed it to be and now it's Josh Naylor Cleveland and nailer swings through that one oh strike one is so critical in a bat like this with a bat he just never got the bat off of his shoulder I mean you got to go up there looking to swing at some point especially once you're down 02 and at that point make an adjustment look to put the ball in play if it's anywhere close and I'm just not sure what the plan was there now it's Paul the young up to the plate swings through that oh and one the1 highfly ball out towards left field that one's the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit one down now here's Bobby Wht Jr the walk and a run scored his first time right through there for a [Applause] and here is Vinnie pasquantino his first at bat was a strikeout and that's outside the Royals down by a run we're here in the top half of inning number three great on that fast ball I got a ball one straight next offering is in for a strike one ball two strikes keeps the back going with a foul ball left hand batter weights St him out looking with the off speed stun no runs one hit no errors and a man left we move on to the bottom of inning number three it's the Guardians two and the one back here in Cleveland and the batter will be the short stop Brian rokio the short stop the right hater back to work swing and a highfly ball down the left field line but hooking foul and the righty deals this one lifted in the air left field and it stays Fair makes the turn and heads for second and he starts the bottom of the third with a double just a blue pit behind third right there and that's a really tough play for a third baseman or short stop to get to and the same for the left fielder so he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there here's the Cleveland lead off hitter Steven Quan reached on an infield single this first time and a good eye there Cleveland up a run looking for more B that's inside a swing and a miss and that's strike one two1 the 2-1 and another ball and there's ball for take baby the batter number designated now it's the Guardians DH flyed to right his first time ball for a strike There's an opportunity to do some damage but you've got to be selective make sure you get a pitch that you can handle kick andos just off the outside edge next offering upstairs could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming and here it comes that's off the mark and a count is three and one you know these Guardians doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient at bats out of them they're doing a good job of working the pitch count and they've been able to push a couple of runs across the score as well righty to the plate and that'll load the bases well the stage has been set for this offense Booth it's all about creating opportunities and this is one here's Josh Naylor he's already homered in this game keep an eye on this at that because even though it's early it could change the outcome of this game look for your pitch and attack packing and that one fouled off two outs two in scored position here in the last half of the third foul back ourway and that's out of play and just misses with that one man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it gets and another ball two walks in the inning already and he just doesn't seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat [Applause] them that one great job of getting out of the jam and we're back and now it's Salvador Perez to the pl here comes a pitch and that's off the Inside Edge and that is ball one well these Royals just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the zone we'll see but I think they have to MJ Melendez getting ready to hit grounded out his first time up and that's in there for strike one he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict baseball toss to Naylor and there are two outs now it's Hunter Renfro 0 for one so far right through there for a strike oh one's the count good eye on that spot two down dolman on pitches in there one and [Applause] two rander kick deals and that one is lifted in the air Brennan under it and makes the grab and that is that back now at Progressive Field ready to go bottom four now it's the right fielder will Brennan as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live arm delivers that one's upstairs ball one and it's w to know wouldn't chase that time good hitters count the 2-0 swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play the [Music] 2-1 and a foul ball and the two two that's down and in the wi in the pitch fights it off he'll see another Andy deals fouled off again and it remains three and two hit hard on the ground to short Whit over to first so they get the out after a long battle at the plate the second Andre here's Andre Jimenez grounded out to short in his first trip you and I got a chance to broadcast the 2019 All-Star game and the city of Cleveland did such a great job I felt like wherever you turned there was some type of ad for the allstar game a face of one of the players playing in the game thought the city overall supported the event really well and it finds its way through for a hit yeah and I think the players backed it up from the Home Run Derby and the show that was went on between the Vladimir Guerrero Jr Pete Alonzo and others it was off the charts and then the game is always special when you see the best in baseball you remember how special this game is and to be here at this ballpark um I think just was the ice seat on the cake and there's a foul ball run around the move ball outside throw to Second and a great jump well we all know this team is struggling right now and sometimes you just got to do something different to generate some offense a little more aggressive right there to put the pressure on the opponent we'll see if it pays off on the scoreboard for this [Applause] team pickoff moved to Second and he's back in there the pitch late that time and it's strike two man he was really Tardy on that fast ball great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball add some velocity to it on the next pitch can't catch up one two now and a swing in a Miss down on strikes two away definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes it pretty textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the Box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage Naylor batting for the second time and that's strike one well we call that key H holding even though it's right there and looks pretty good if he doesn't love it he's not going to swing that early in the count leftand hitter Waits goes down looking one hit one left we played Four it's the Guardians two and the Royals one here in Cleveland top five John shabi with Chris Singleton and leading it off Adam Frasier Bing back to work foul ball there well these Royals as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate chasing pitches has been a big part of the story we've seen it quite a bit today it's been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn't look like they're seeing it very well as a group and there's a ball and on the mound you know confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses he's had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game and a pitch ripped on a line and that's a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single well patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count so much a good hitting is finding holes in the defense that's why you're always thinking line drive into the Gap those kinds of swings really boost your confidence Paul D young steps in for the Royals right through there for a [Applause] strike turn 01 now and that one fouled off going and two now swings throw it and that's a strike out well when you throw the same pitch back to back that's how you want to do it set him up in the strike zone then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase nicely done with the slider right there [Music] here's the center fielder Kyle Isbell grounded out his first time wouldn't chase that time and the rhander deals splits the plate and it's one and one got one ball one strike and another ball and a two- one on the way runner on the go swing in a Miss throw and they got him not a fast runner on the base path so this kind of looks like it was a hit and run call from The Dugout got to make contact some way or somehow because that guy's not going to be able to steal second base and be safe two2 now gets a piece there we'll do it again here's a 22 bals that off to the left and will do it again two down nobody on and we're in the top of the fif spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see another swings and misses he battled for a long time but it finishes with a strikeout you can't be mad at yourself after an bat like that one back here in Cleveland here's Brian Rio on the mound he had a little trouble back in the first but it's been a different story the rest of the way really settled into this outing nicely swinging a Miss strike one Roo in his rookie season 23 years old and he was born in Venezuela The Young whips it across and the lead offense set down in their half of the fif now the left so the Guardians lineup turns over Steven Quan digs in for the Guardians popped up to the left into foul ground D young calls it in two away the bat the designated hitter Danielle now the number two hitter he's over for one that one the other way that's a hit so Jose Ramirez now gets a chance with two gone first pitch swing in went up there with a plan to be aggressive I don't know how he's able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands fight it off and still get good wood on it and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion Ramirez in the Box again takes a strike two quick outs needed to get that third one wasn't able to do it now you bring up the heart of this order you got to find a way to get it done right here towards first and it gets by him and that extends the inning he kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for knock and you'll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole and a foul ball and a foul ball first and second two down last half of inning number five Mi offering is downstairs action in the pen down there Michael Lorenzo the heart throwing right he is up and loosening Strat getting cranked up as well next offering is down low great job of laying off probably had some of those that didn't stay fair but off the bat it looked like it was going to been foul was able to keep it in there tucked it nicely he gets the jog around the base is good for him hard hit left side Whit over to First out with room to spare and that's the inning Guardians put up three on this Homer it's now a 51 ball game it's major league baseball and it's on the show and pitch that's outside going to count one and two way inside that one misses and now it's three and two well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside plate coverage the wine of the pitch struck him out looking frustrating end to the atat for the hitter and I'm sure that's going to sit on him for a little while you want to be ready to hit the fast ball sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there Bobby Whit Jr steps in for the Royals his July and August splits there and the pitch is in for a strike and one it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but [Applause] basre the wi to the pitch and takes low for ball one you know these Guardians putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the play the numbers help tell the story I mean they've been sitting fast ball and it's paying off in a big way so far with six hits against that pitch alone and that one fouled off and that's a great way for a lineup to dominate a game because if a pitcher can't rely on his fast ball to get outs I mean that puts a lot of pressure on the rest of his pitches to be effective rro makes the catch one up one down now batting center fielder L Lane Thomas digs in for the [Applause] Guardians in there at the knees that strike won well that's really the money spot down and away if you can locate that consistently it's going to be real tough for hitters to square that up that's what you love to see relievers do coming out of that Bullpen next offering pop foul off to the right the pitch and a foul ball he stays alive well struck left field onto the Home Run porch and left go his ninth home run of the year and they tack one on the board it's 6-1 that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on [Music] autopilot looks like this guy looking out over the plate but he was ready to turn on the inside fast ball so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ballark bayor at the plate now and he chases a high fast ball there and one and now the Lefty in the air right field Renfro sizes this one up and there's two away maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it and now the short stop ran roio [Applause] roio the Royals won bottom of the seventh here's the left fielder Steven Quan and here it comes and that's too high activity in the bullpen Sam long the Lefty looks to be getting himself ready Stratton the right-hander loosening up as well the Lefty the 10 and that's in there at the knees for a strike and another ball here's a strike [Applause] flew open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch keep the ab battle L got him looking that's a strike out the batter number 10 next for the Guardians is the designated hitter and three with this kind of lead he can swing freely try to hit the ball out of the park do what he loves to do fast ball for a strike and it's O and one o and one just [Applause] missed swing and all the bat went flying there I would say the game's close right now but it's not Out Of Reach either and these pitchers really need to put up a zero on the board just to maintain a little hope kicks and fires fights that one away still one and [Applause] two little bit low this guy's a fun guy to watch taking it B he just battles up there he doesn't take a pitch off at all makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there you could tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away Swang and a miss handcuffed him with that slider Guardians go down in order Guardians fail to score they still lead it though 61 we're at the top of the eighth here's the second baseman Adam Frasier by me still out there to pitch the eighth and working with a big lead he's been excellent really on his game in this one and at this point he wants to finish what he [Applause] started that's outside and the count even one and one is there a debate to be had about shutting him down maybe to preserve some bullets given the score absolutely when you consider over the course of a long season guys putting a lot of stress on that elbow on that shoulder but you also have to pry the ball out of a hand of a guy like this because he's so competitive ground ball up the middle toss to nailor just got him on that one I love how guys at this level are able to slow the game down whether it's in the batter box or on defense and right there that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had we talk about that internal clock he was able to gather himself get a good grip and make an accurate throw across the diamond next to hit Paul D young just off the outside edge ball one the Guardians leading by five and we're in the top of the eighth on the ground to third that one sizzling on its way through to the [Applause] Outfield man he just absolutely turned on that one ripped it down the line nice job of standing his mechanics man at first with one gone so up now for Kansas City Kyle Isbell get two and the first pitch misses for ball One D Young At first one [Music] gone in the air left field sizing this one up and he makes the catch now batting designated hitter Michael mathi so the season you usually have to string some hits together in order to get to them now the Four Hole hitter for the Guardians Josh Naylor the first B here comes a pitch and first off ring is fouled off long in his second season he features a four seam fast ball a curb a slider and occasionally Works in a splitter lifted in the air now the left side Melendez calls it in and there's one away now batting right field will so up next will Brennan three ground outs already he's over for three and there's a strike activity in the Kansas City Bullpen Michael Lorenzen appears to be getting ready and I'm sure he's feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut the1 ball one there one and one that's inside two and two liner caught it second it's never fun going back to the Dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you've done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control Jimenez stands in now and watches strike one two down nobody on here the bottom half of the eighth inning swing and a ground ball out to Short On The Run send it over to first they get the out and that'll do it nothing do it for the Guardians there they lead it though 6-1 we're back it's the top of the night and there's a new pitcher on the M Scott Barlo he's got some of the best swing and Miss stuff going right now he's striking out hitters at a very high rate this year so this should be fun to watch Bobby Whit Jr steps in for the Royals this guy is one of the best athletes in the sportel as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live arm delivers swing and a miss oh and he lost the handle on that one [Applause] and the pitch and down on strikes he goes and a strike out for the first out here in the nth oh you know that's got to be very frustrating for this guy he knows the strike zone extremely well and you know what good hitters are not going to compromise he'll take that punch out but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else he's two outs away and now the first baseman Vinnie pasquantino that one off the mark
