so just about set now and on the hill the Lefty Patrick Corbin safe to say he's pretty stingy Chris well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion but just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success the left side Michael Harris In The Box here lets that one go for a ball in the air right field Cruz under it makes the catch and there's one gone here's Brian Snickers line up for the Braves one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Matt Olen yeah Boog he's leading them in batting average and RBI so delivering in a number of ways and you know what if he comes up with the bases empty good chance of getting on base set up his teammates if he comes up with guys on man he could drive him in just a solid contributor for this lineup BGE Solair up at the plate and it's through for a hit so a man aboard now with one [Applause] away batting third thege Solair with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming Bo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here here's Marcelo Zuna trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues and a swinging to miss oh and one [Applause] Solair the base runner at first with one [Applause] out swing and a miss for the strikeout chase the fast up the ladder for strike three and that's the first strike out of his major League career and it could be the first of many if he beats the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't one to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up KS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little a little bit further in the air left field down the line wood makes the catch and that is that so no runs here on a base hit no errors and one left now it'll be Washington's turn it's a scoreless ball game back here in Nationals Park and starting this one Chris sale and singing a special day for him he's making his major league debut here and I'm sure he's got some nerves he'll be excited for that first pitch to be in and over with so that he can settle in to pitching just like he did in the minor leagues exciting moment he's got his family in town I think This Moment's going to be a huge tone Setter for his career as the Lefty gets to work CJ Abrams at the plate now that's bow one [Applause] sail ready that one almost got him not showing great command so far in this at bat two- count he's got to execute here or this could get ugly and a foul ball makes the count two and one here comes a pitch fouls one off two and two he's a little up front count Luis Garcia up next for Washington [Applause] at the belt and fires keeps the Imp back going with a foul [Music] ball and a pitch gets a piece and stays alive first inning and already up to 23 pitches into the air right field pops over the wall and that's an automatic double as a run scores on the play so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's a it bad he's never going to [Applause] forget and now it's Luis Garcia golden opportunity right here and the first pitch misses for ball one it's great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game but here's an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of Runners on let's see if they can cash in [Applause] left hand batter weights next pitch in for a strike and it's one and one and there's a ball he's got a base open so the pressure to come in and really attack this hitter not as great as it would be if the bags calls it in and there's one away fting the third basem as we take a look at the Nationals lineup not a lot of Pop to work with here Chris this offense dead last at homers across the league so they've got to generate runs in ways that aren't aren't quite as effective in today's game and boo you have to be smart in the way that you play the game you can't run into outs on the bases you have to learn to take your walks when it's being given to you otherwise you're never going to score and on top of that because you don't score very much pitching in the defense has to be good the defense has to be on their toes to prevent runs and that can effectively help you win some more ball [Applause] games that one finds the zone and it's nothing in two that's a little bit low and he deals battling here as he fouls it away [Music] [Applause] that one 95 to finish him off Boog gets talked about a lot but a good high fast ball and a two strike situation it's just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years with all the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate having a good grip on the baseball those High fast balls they kind of look like to The Hitter that they're Rising even though they're not but they're not decreasing in velocity and spin rate so very difficult to get the barrel on [Applause] it the pitch and now the count is even well with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning I mean you're giving the other team a really good look he's going to have to find a way to get some weak contact maybe a swing and Miss get into that Dugout and hit the reset button close one doesn't get the call and it's two and one now One [Music] Missed gets the call and the Count's full 32 two out run on first lot of movement in the infield hitters got to stay focused on the pitch swinging a foul ball at the plate they'll do it again fights it off he'll see [Applause] another hit in the air Center a field Paris sizes this one up and that'll do it three runs on four well after putting up a nice Inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don't give that other team any hope uh you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they're high a three-oh lead is great but you can't get too comfortable got to stay aggressive keep attacking hitters try to cruise through this ball game and the pitch is outside ball one Daryl Parker assigned to umpiring Duty behind home plate and boo with DP it's sort of a coin flip on those borderline Corner pitches doesn't really favor one side of the plate more than the other sometimes you'll get a little extra the plate and sometimes you won't it does seem like he evens it out over the course of a game though and that squirt through solo Runner aboard to start the inning Shawn Murphy with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute hitting right there it's early but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score that's exactly what happened so you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat hammers that one deep left field and forget it a gigantic blast and they throw a pair on the board it's 3-2 that was blasted absolutely no doubt off the bat with a low 90s fast ball you have to live on the edges and hit your spots if you don't you'll get hit hard really good swing there patient waited for it was like BP all over again here's Orlando [Applause] Aria and the first off is not close still only one out here in the inning pitch misses and it's two and0 and there's a hit [Applause] Orlando Aria with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked for a [Applause] strike the pitch ground ball left side could be two off balance feed there's one throw to first but he beat it now so the lineup flips over and the batter now Michael Harris and there's one thing on his mind this at bat getting that first hit at the big league level in there for strike one oh one count and that one fouled off two outs gets a piece and it stays 0 and [Applause] two and here it comes one ball two strike [Applause] spoils a two- strike pitch and he'll see another and now the Lefty that's way outside and the count is even two and two the Braves trailing by a run here at the top of the second comeb backer to the mound on to First and that is the inning long ball draws the Braves closer it's now a 3-2 ball game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show and we're back bottom of the second here's the veteran first baseman Joey Gallow Joey yellow sail back to work that just misses and it's one and0 saying he wasn't very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn't able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah boo he wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches he's going to need to figure it out quickly though the line and the pitch and now it's even up swing in a Miss struck him out that's one out the bottom of the second and he'll be beating himself up on the way back the dug out got a pitch to hit and just couldn't get to it I think that slider really caught way more of the plate than it was supposed to and here's the rookie center fielder that misses and that is ball one [Music] and there's the ball and a good eye there well I would expect in this three count you're taking all the way see if he'll walk you fast ball for a strike one out base is empty and a foul ball the Lefty fires popped in the air left field Kelly right there to make the grab two away now the patter number five Short Stop CJ so the Nets lineup turns over here's the short stop at the play CJ Abrams he let off the bottom of the First with a single and then came in to score on the outside corner that's strike one this strong second inning is a confidence builder for him a relief for his manager doesn't have to get into that Bull Pen quite as early the other way that's a hit and that keeps the inning going everything came together for him nice job job going the opposite way with it letting the ball travel and not allowing the barrel to hook around the ball it's so frustrating when you see a good pitch and your hands roll over it was on the outside part of the plate and he approached it perfectly and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion w batting for the second time and that's strike one when you're struggling out there on the mound hitters know that there'll be plenty of opportunities within the atat to try to get something to hit hard step off throw to first and he's back safely Abrams off of first with two away here goes the runner swing in the Miss safe at second and that was not close they picked over once just before the pitch to check on him but that didn't seem to slow up his jump on the pitch at all I think that guy's been studying some video awesome job to be prepared got the timing down and he gets into scoring [Applause] position chase that time [Applause] you can do it one and two now sail hard ground ball base now headed for the plate now a long throw home save well done drives in the run I know that was a ground ball but it was absolutely hammered through the infield that's not one you're excited to get in front of if you're an infielder you know they used to say charge it crazy so two down and here's the DH for Washington andrees chaparo a dou double and a run scored his first time up that one is upstairs count one [Applause] and0 and the one0 swings through that one for strike one one and one we next stering way off the plate last couple of pitches breaking balls away I think he's going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this [Applause] count and a foul ball and a pitch knocks that one away and we'll do it again one run acrossing the frame so far bottom half of inning number two got it by him for the K but the RBI single pushes across a run it's now 42 you're dialed into the show back in Washington DC top half of the third inning now the number two hitter Jorge Solair the pitch ball one low lays out but he can't squeeze it and he baits it that's a hit great try there now it's the DH Marcel Ozuna his first hit bat was a strike [Applause] out and a pop up right side foul territory he's there he's got it and there's one [Applause] away now B the first Matt ol and now Matt Olen up to hit [Applause] that one finds the corner and that's strike one and a foul ball left side man at first one away keeps the back going with a foul ball leftand hitter Waits gets a piece and stays alive swings and misses struck him out well he really filled up the strike zone and that it bad until that final pitch and as a hitter you sense that they're coming after you not dancing around the strike zone They want to attack and so you kind of get into swing mode and you have to protect the plate that's when you become really susceptible to something that makes you chase and that's exactly what happened right there so here's Murphy now singled and scored his first time right through there for a strike the Braves trailing by two we're here in the top half of inning number three the pitch gets a piece there we'll do it again next pitch not close up high [Applause] and another ball spoils that one and it remains two and [Applause] two and that's outside great RBI spot here just got to stay focused on the pitch Runner will be in motion so something in the Gap should definitely score it outside and that is ball four it wasn't easy but he earned that walk after a long at back not what he wanted to do there BR that keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit first and second two down now the left fielder Jared Kellner sh that one missing inside good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with Runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch two on two outs and it is two and one and misses inside Gio Ella would be next if they can extend the inning and he's homered already so I'm sure he'd love a chance to do some more damage here and a pitch just a really nice slider down an end there he wants to get the hitter Thinking Fast Ball speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little move it kicks and broken bat and it's popped up and that's a foul [Applause] B and he walked him well the stage has been set for this offense Booth it's all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here giorella to the plate he's already homered in this game bottom of the zone and a called strike tough situation right here so important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there b is loaded two now outside low and now it's even one and one two walks in the inning already and he just doesn't seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them Zips it to First out to escape a Bases Loaded jam on unscathed and the Braves will strand three still down by a count of 4-2 and welcome back to the ballpark here's the second basem Luis Garcia well he came out clutch earlier in this ball game and really just needs to take the same approach think hard right back up the middle the line of the pitch not even close there ball w I think this is an important Inning on the mound for him in this game he's got to find a way to settle things down and give some length in this start next offering is in for a [Applause] strike and that's too high bals that off to the left and will do it again the W to kick the pitch swings through that one it's a strike out that's that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there just nasty looks like a fast thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it's just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly DC swing and this one's bounc to the ground tosses the first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third number eight J Jose tenna digging in for the Nationals he was a strikeout victim his first time [Applause] swing and a miss o and one o and one slider misses outside two out space is [Applause] empty that one down the line and that's just foul here comes a pitch two balls two STK got him swinging and the Nationals gone in order but they still lead this one 4-2 back here in Nationals Park start of the the fourth so now to the plate for Atlanta Orlando Aria as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live arm deliver that misses the zone and that's ball one that one hit to right puts it away for the out one [Applause] away now Luke Williams next up for the Braves 0 for one he hit into a fielder's Choice as first time they say he wi oh one's the [Applause] count next offering is in for a strike no ball two strike lifted in the air out to left wood makes the play and a couple of quick outs just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he's going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some Authority instead of a fly out to left that one fouled off two down down nobody on that breaking ball is in for a strike and quickly it is nothing in [Applause] two into Center and a four runs in three Innings he's going to have to have some quick one two three Innings to pitch deep into this ball game and a foul ball o and two now just misses the mark outside the Zone it's a good take missed with a change up it's two and two he's trying to stay down in the zone but the hitter just will not Chase now back in a two two count he's going to have to go to something else to get him out swing and a miss struck him out one gone here oh really went aggressive in with that slid good two strike pitch right there at worst case scenario it's weak contact in play exactly where he and the catcher wanted it Gallow batting with one down takes a strike high in the air out to right and they take care of Gallow for the out two away now batting the center fielder jaob and now the center fielder flyed to left his first time there's the [Applause] strike he swings and fouls one off [Applause] and that just misses well clearly not too happy with the call there thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that's not up two down nobody on we're here in the bottom of the fourth that one off the mark now two and two sometimes you got to fight to get back into an advat take some t pitches even out the count this one popped up makes the grab and that's the inning three up three down for Washington as they can't add to their 4-2 lead back in Washington DC we go to the top of the fifth and now the DH Marcelo Zuna the pitch that one finds the Zone it's own and [Applause] one next offering is outside inside just missed just missed first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no Panic at all by The Hitter very patient showing good discipline now he's in the driver's seat with the 3-1 count that's a bullet but it goes foul battling here as he fouls it away the wi to the pitch and so the Lefty allows the lead off free pass I don't think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow Matt Olen up to the plate mat Olen 30 years old now a former first round pick back in 2012 the kick in the pitch Runner goes right field down the line and that one slices foul kicks and fires and a big swing and a miss knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ground ball double play opportunity here you've got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there swinging at that pitch that's a no [Applause] no left hand batter weights fights that one away and the count remains o and two the pitch they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away and misses it's a strike out you know Bo you often think of slider more for that horizontal movement but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement and that's what we saw right there good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top and next for Atlanta Shawn Murphy [Applause] wouldn't chase that [Applause] time the one and he hits a ground ball right side and it goes just foul the pitch to the left side but it is well fouled he's getting the barrel to the balls just got to work on that timing a little bit and the pitch good job to fight that one off the Braves down by a pair and we're the top of the fif swing and a miss struck him out he's locked in at the plate when he's using the whole field he was out in front there just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track good pitch for the strike begins in this situation you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be you just got to hope that you can make contact and now the Lefty out towards right center field makes the grab and that'll end the inning and we're back here's CJ Abrams to hit sail back to work out towards right Center that's well struck that one's carrying G and they add on it's 52 and that shot makes their grip on the lead even [Applause] tighter a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of [Applause] it Brian snicker out of the Dugout and he's going to make a change that does it for Chris Sail as the Lefty makes way it's a three-run game and we'll be back to tell you about the think that if they gave the pitcher a false scouting report on me yes I think I could draw walk chaparo the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one double barreled action in the bullpen pumps it a strike well that's really the money spot down and away if you can locate that consistently it's going to be real tall for him to square that up that's what you love to see relievers do up and still laid on it you rarely see that it almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up I mean if you can't catch up to the off speed stuff there's no way you're going to touch moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appr appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here so a man aboard now the third baseman Jose [Music] tenna first pitch just misses counts one and0 and now the Lefty and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball two movement in the Atlanta Bullpen Johnny breia the veteran right-hander appears to be loosening up Ruiz gets his lead at first nobody out right through there for a strike two and another ball this is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game you know that they don't want to walk you so you're going to get a pitch to hit just better not miss [Applause] [Applause] it that one off the bad part of the bat just a Lazy Fly ball and that'll fall for a base hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out well that's one of those knocks where you almost expect to get some Jabs from your teammates when you get back to the Dugout he clearly didn't catch that one on the big part of the bat just kind of muscled it out there and you know on the mound it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes and now the right fielder Dylan Cruz 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out that misses the Zone ball one first and second no outs here the bottom half of the little more patient possibly take until they get a strike with that you don't want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count he didn't right there and another ball definitely a swing been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch right-handed reliever swings through that one it's a strike out just blown away in that at bat three fast balls all strikes wasn't even able to foul one off there's not much you can take away from an bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there's something wrong with your eyes got to have better timing on the fastball next time he's two outs away Marcelo Zuna next up for the Braves first pitch doesn't find the zone and he deals and that's a little bit high and now two and0 Chris with that distraction and the Speedy guy at first he's in a favorable hitters count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in the Braves trailing by three here at infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases swings and misses strike one one count one out Runners at first and second and there's a strike good heater at 98 just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days I never would had a chance just misses now one and two man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it gets
