place known for Yan dogs and pepperoni rolls probably some liquid Refreshments the Mountaineer faithful ready to go here in Morgantown as we wind our way toward the end of another college football season one of the Grand Traditions is paying tribute and respect to those who have just poured their souls into the success of this program and honor the seniors on senior day as we'll see a team coming off a crucial High week the TCU horn frogs taking on the ninth ranked team in the land the West Virginia Mountaineers fora sports college football I'm re Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started he'll bring it back from inside to SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 21 first down for this [Music] [Applause] offense they'll leave it with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well just nothing doing on that last run and they knew coming into this one they were going to be challenged right this is one of the best defenses in all of college football for them to have any shot they're going to have to do a lot better running the football after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 makes the catch it's Tucker and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success running with power at the 45 on it way off he goes inside the 10 he'll get that one all the way down to the four yd line before he stopped and the Mountaineers will try to put one on the board on first and goal quarterback flips INE quickly to the receiver and not much doing there as that defense runs him out of bounds and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth game if I were allowed to put have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the outside second and goal for the offense and he Sprints to the end zone touchdown MERS I love running backs that have a nose for the goal line understand how to get there finish strong into the end zone no I get six and then go celebrate the two points and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown oh right through his fingers he muffed [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] it you can barely hear yourself thinking here as they're trying to get this defense off to a good start they'll crank up this drive with the pass fires the pass intercepted and it's going to be a pick six doch now West Virginia really nice drive by this offense this is a top 10 defense this is a challenge they're going to make everything difficult so when you can make some plays against this defense you got to AB absolutely take advantage create some momentum for your squad nice drive by this offense they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six this will not be returnable as it sails out of the back of the endzone TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense to say this has been a slow start it's a bit of an statement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing an all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense to the air on first down just missed his man and gave him just a little too much guys it's almost impossible to overstate the importance of this game the result might well be the cut line between really good bowl and the playoffs it's a really good point ree because at this point of the Season late this is a Resume Builder and this might be the win that you need to improve your status and impress the committee so that they put you in the college football playoff yeah in these top 10 games they they get more attention more people are there more people are com covering more people are talking about it intercepted this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job at his decision Mak here's his offense with a fresh set of downs wide out in motion they'll start this drive with a pass fires to the right a strike downfield and they'll finally cat catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up now inside the 20 first and 10 from the [Applause] 18 pulls it and fires to the left touchdown MERS one a catch and one for six you know often times in college football the best offenses are the ones that can create explosive plays just like you saw right there they're top 10 in the nation points per game because they don't have to drive the field they've got dudes scattered all over this offense that can take it the distance on any given [Applause] play no shot to return that one as he bomed it out of the back of the end [Applause] zone TCU will send its offense back onto the field mistakes are going to happen as they did on that last drive now how will they respond Jesse and this is the kind of guy who's going to take full accountability that was my bad that's on me I'm about to leave this offense now down the field SC dang I wish I would have played with you I didn't play with many quarterbacks that were just like yeah my bad hey guys I got this sorry about that it was more you should have ran a better route steps away to find some room he'll pull it down and run and they're able to force him out of bounds after a short pickup the emotions and energy figure to be high all day guys because of what's at stake this late in the season really a must- win for both teams these are the ones that get your blood moving ree you get jacked up man we don't have to say anything in the locker room give these big speeches you know what's at stake Jesse you're ready to rock and roll this is when you prove you're the big dog which is pretty cool too because it's been a long season and these teams obviously are both physically and mentally tired but you're right for this kind of game this is the one you circled at the start of the year you knew that this was going to matter there was going to be a lot on the line now it's time to go out and through you're the better team quarterback wants to throw on second down gets rid of it pulls it in it's golden still on his feet at the 45 and he was on his way gets it all the way to the 38 and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do and the horn frogs have their offense in high gear quarterback Quick Pass to the [Applause] receiver pass the 25 he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty looking for a productive play on first down from the gun running back on the move they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down it's really frustrating to get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job you can't get the guy in the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle kick make it easy on the offense when now they got a a manageable situation you got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back they make the stop after a pick up of three balls at the 18 and that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damage when they run the football get them on the ground short games to set your defense for positive situations down the road the Freshman able to get home with the sack when it's a playaction pass that quarterback he really has to sell the Fate he can't tell his offensive lineman's getting beat right away while he's selling the fake he had no shot ninth play of the drive coming up but this one will be tough third and long spider spider looking to throw and he needs a bunch quick strike complete he gets it all the way down to the 5 yd line a terrific catch and run before he stopped you know it's one thing to have all the accolades preseason and have all the expectations but it's another thing to be able to go out and execute week in week out he's done that he now has over 1500 receiving yards on the year out of the gun looking to throw he wants it all reels it in in the end zone touchdown hard frog getting set for the point after and after the extra point they're now down 21-7 about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown TC from inside the 15 chance for a good return he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the [Applause] 20 West Virginia has it the offense ready to go to work after standing on the sideline and watching that long touchdown Drive they really need to put something together to give their defense a rest and that's a real thing man like you've played a lot of plays you get worn out you need a chance to go decompress on the sideline get some oxygen Palmer now it's on this offense yeah this is the definition of complimentary football cuz it's a two-prong problem you've got to score points and answer but you've also got to take your time and give your defense an opportunity to get their win third now coming up on [Applause] the the First quar with the score West Virginia 21c back on the field after the break and we'll start the quarter here on third [Applause] down from the gun wants to pass fires to the wide out it's complete open Runway ahead he just brought some serious energy making that huge play and getting it all the way down to the 23 yd line well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game he's up to 81 yds on the ground and he's been terrific All Season ranking in the top 10 in rushing every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there he's going to pass he's got it in the end zone touchdown mountainer and it's so underrated the the relationship between a QB and a wide receiver the timing the ability to know where he's going to be and be accurate the football that's what leads to nice touchdowns Jesse well the chemistry between these two guys has to be great when you're throwing into because coverage is going to be tight the throw might not be perfect but this is something these two guys have been repping and practice over and over and over and it's paying dividends now on game and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down On The Ground TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense trailing by three touchdowns if you're going to get back in it David the time to start is right now got to start now defense given up points on that last possession again the offense is going to have to score and Jesse probably score pretty quickly yeah you got to go Tempo you're going to have to try to fit in as many plays as you can throughout the rest of this game but I think more than that you got to eliminate the negative plays no more Penal these and no more turnovers big chunk play to start this drive now they'll really try to take it to this defense the give on the inside you'll take this every time five yds on the first down play five to six yards a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep him onest count that rock looking to throw on second down got his Man Down down the middle makes the stop at the 49 give him five yds on the play and a first down the horn frogs come to the line with a new set of downs the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the Deep Off the play fake on first down wants to throw and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete on second down he'll try to make the connection this time and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete it's hard throwing in the pocket man you got bodies and 300 lb dudes falling all over the place they're trying to hit you that time the pressure got to them and it forced the incompletion all kinds of room to throw that one in there and this defense is a half a beat behind they just can't quite keep up they've got it down to the 21 after that completion move the sticks it's first down they'll keep it on the ground and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive game making your situation really good on the next GD [Music] boy they'd love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal wide receiver coming across in motion touch pass on the Rock he ended up going backwards on the play and they will not convert that third down and the horn frogs will hustle to the line he'll try to throw and pick up the first down snagged In The End Zone touchdown TCU TCU number theat unit on the field and with the extra point they Trail by two touchdowns 2814 they've got it down to a two touchdown deficit trailing by 14 and about to kick it away TCU fielded In The End Zone it's Robinson not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out at the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 take over [Music] first West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points they but they can't go too fast cuz their defense right now is TI and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about grabbed behind the line it's Tucker and this one will be stopped for No Gain kept it on the ground on first down let's see what they do on second from the gun they'll try the middle good call good execution as they move the chains and they have a first down at the thir 38 he's now up to 104 yd on the ground and that's just another routine day for this guy who's been among the nation's leaders in rushing all season long cre good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 they'll Run play action throws to the wide out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down from the big pick up and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they're able to cover him throughout the rest of this game and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down offense walks to the line for play number seven of the drive 42 sp sp dialing up the second down pass play they get to him as he throws he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down this offense is clicking everything working together really well coordinator quarterback offensive line good Rhythm good flow defense is going to have to find something to kind of mess up this timing they got going on receivers telling the quarterback what they [Applause] see release to the back caught over the middle it's white quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds you know and that's why this guy can play first second and third down you've already seen him earlier in the drive rip off some nice runs but he can catch the football as well they're going to find ways to get him going in all sorts of ways but you're seeing it specifically on this drive might be looking to run Let it Fly pulls it in in the end zone touchdown West Virginia now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point is true and the lead balloons to 21 get that touchdown right before the half build the momentum and the last thing you need to do is mess it up by allowing a big kickoff return on the move from inside is and he loses the Ball Deep in his own end grab by the kicking team just a few seconds to go here in the first half and they'll send out the field goal [Music] team it's good put a three spot on the board as we finish quarter number three at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join C and hour halftime update the Mountaineers will kick it away to start the second half just unloaded on that kickoff don't have to worry about a return on a kick like that they'll bring it out to the [Applause] [Music] 25 TCU will send its offense back onto the field when you're facing a deficit like this one to start the second half you really can't afford to waste a single possession fresh start here in the second half that's the only way you can look at this if you're on offense things did not go your way there in the first half it starts with one play to get our confidence going we just got to get something going early here on this drive one play Stay aggressive now now I think I can be even more aggressive on Fourth Downs because obviously I've built a deficit my defense has got to make some plays for me too line gets set first down easy off the RPO complete and oh did they know that one was coming they'll knock him down in the back field they trying to throw the screen out to the receiver the defense though having none of that they are just too physical they're too fast they force a negative play and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing play third down in this offense is already in a world of trouble they could really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores and he dropped it it looked for all the world like that would be a catch and he just got too excited tell you what I don't know if the offense was expecting man coverage that time third and long in field goal range you're expecting it to be Zone instead they lock them up manto man everybody on an island everybody W they get the incompletion Now setting up fourth and the punt will hit at the one just a little too far for them to be able to down it it'll be touch back and come out to the 20 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work takes a hand off it's white what a Nifty run there to pick up the first down this offense all game long has been running really well and I'm really impressed by how well they've recruited at the running back position they've got some Dynamic players coming into the game at different points spelling each other keeping each other fresh and they're hurting this [Applause] defense got it behind the line it's Tucker they make the stop but the sweet throwing catches PL to give him a first down when we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down the give to the backat and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land you can't let the same guy beat you over and over and over again you got to make adjustments sometimes you got to bring more guys in the Box more guys to the football and make sure he's not the one who beat you complete to the right and this defense's head is spending he gets it down to the 27 well offensive coordinators put in countless hours every week trying to formate and use different Personnel groupings and shifts and motions to give their offenseive success on third down you can tell in this game this offensive coordinator he has put in the work this really good job by the defense seeing it and going and getting it nice job understanding the touch passing Could Happen those guys go Motion man I got to understand saf's got to see that start flying down getting ready to play that nice job by the defense being ready for that play and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play and the Mountaineers have it with a first and 10 quarterback will [Applause] audible comes out throwing on first down caught behind the line it's fight that complet takes them down to the seven yd line and they are ready to strike as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the [Applause] [Music] quarter we start the quarter offense about to snap it on second down 25 on second down wants to throw to the end zone and it's picked off and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back forito well the defense isn't quitting they're obviously down big here in the fourth quarter with just a little bit of time left obviously it'll take a herculan effort to come back but could that interception be the spark that ignites this team very useful run there to get away from the goal line he'll pick up four out to the six I think one of the hardest things to do is stick to the run when it's not working but it's Those runs right there that the reason why you have to do it right you can't get to onedimensional keep slipping Those runs in there keep getting and they got him in the end zone for a safety this defense happy with how that last play turned out to able to climb the penalty after getting caught for a safety they're lined up and ready to kick it off he'll bring it back it's farmer returner is down at 31 [Music] and first down here for the [Applause] offense he'll keep it himself nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and that option game can be tricky right but nice job by the defense playing a assignment football and watch the linebacker you can tell locked in on the quarterback chases him down gets to him and not only gets to him doesn't let him break a tackle gets him on the ground at the 45 on it way after burner coming the 10 touchdown Mountaineer and the route is on lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point just tacks a little bit more onto this huge lead only took two plays to find the End Zone on that drive and gashing them on the touchdown run finished it off they're just about ready to kick it away he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 TCU has it back the horn frogs go on offense and the last time they had the ball they wound up giving up a safety Jesse yeah that was UNG good the last time they had the ball so they got to do something and he's running in the open they'll make the stop but not before they use the screen beautifully and pick up the first down and they executed that running back screen to Perfection quarterback held on to it he let the rush get to him offensive lineman got out in position and the running back sold it too once he had the ball s he just had blockers and Green Field out in front of him they pick up an explosive play on a running back screen after the misfire now on second down he's looking to throw he's moving out of the pocket unloads to the wide out it's caught down field that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop you know as the head coach of this team this is one positive you're going to take away from this game is that your players don't quit and are still willing to fight there's obviously a lot of things they've got to Iron Out offensively we've seen that today but I do love the grit they're showing here late still trying to make plays let's see what they've got on second down the aerial assault continues got it set up on the outside they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screen and behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting d DC athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured and he's got it in the end zone for a touchdown it won't matter much in the outcome but a little extra stat padding his nice the result of this game is going to sting for sure but You' got to continue to build You' got to improve and you can take some positives out of this late hustle and build for next week There's always positives and coaches are always looking for those things that we did well what did we do well so we can do more of it in the future finding some things here late that they did well and he splits the uprights on the extra point about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown 47 TCU [Applause] 21 he'll bring it out it's Robinson not nearly as much as he'd hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook firmly in control with this game we'll see if they just try to run out the clock and get out with the victory everybody on offense here should feel really good about their performance that they two they had a really good game plan coming at this one and they went out and they executed at a very high level yeah lights out and this game's over I interested to see the philosophy now do we keep chucking the pill and keep trying to score points cuz it's the defense's responsibility to stop him or they just run this clock and say all right we did enough today we kick them in the face building momentum picking up a chunk of yard he's moving the chains out to the 34 this guy's been special today coming into this one they thought they had an opportunity really to get him going running the football and he has delivered you've seen the speed the vision his ability to break tackles well over 100 rushing yards in this game and that's why they have a nice lead here L good pick up on the ground and they'll mark down at the 39 and this is exactly where you want to be as an offensive coordinate like when you've got the lead late in the football game just run the football eat the clock man they put a good day together they they they've had a they've had their way with this defense a lot of positive things to point to this is one of those weeks when you watch tape it's going to be really fun to watch it not like when you get beat up a lot of big plays from this offense when you know you have a team outclass the ability to play to that stand standard and finish with a blowout like this is really impressive and it's almost like playing against yourself right you know you're better you know you're going to win the football game but how do I continue to still execute this this was so easy great execution a just beat down in every facet I think as a player you just love being in such great Rhythm and we saw that right from the GetGo in this game offense just able to matriculate the ball down the field defense was not giving anything up what a great game game plan coming in and this was just Total Domination so that's going to do it for us for Jesse Palmer David poock
