welcome to Tampa Raymond James Stadium and while it is indeed home to the 2021 Super Bowl champion Buccaneer it is also the home field for the USF Bulls and the Clash that we have in store today we've got a terrific match up for you today rich and pageantry and tradition and it ought to be a fantastic clash as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the boyy State Broncos taking on a team from the AAC the south Florida bulls for EA Sports college football Reese Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started and the Broncos will kick it away to start us off he'll bring it back from inside the SP really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down the here make the stop at the 19 so the USF Bulls offense takes the field and here he comes the guy who pulls all the strings in this attack I think what makes him so unique he has such a good understanding of this offense always seems to know what the answer is to the test always in control the receivers know they're going to get the football everybody believes in this dude I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job movement from the linebackers trying to mess with the offensive Line's [Applause] assignments quarterback on the keeper gets it past the marker and more yards after contact that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the Stop and the Bulls want to move quickly used the play fake now to throw find space on the right and he gets a big chunk of yardage to the 34 yd line well you're seeing the balance this offense has and how they can create explosive plays in a variety of ways we just saw one come in the Run game and now you see one coming in the passing game I'll tell you they've got this defense on their heels the Bulls will have it first and [Music] 10 the give to the the running back from the shotgun tackle is made at the 30 yd line after he picked up four that's a really nice play it's impressive once it's first down the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six the give out of the gun tough sledding there as he picks up one to the 29 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest they probably feel good about their field goal chances from the 29 but they'd love to convert this third and short brown will throw it unloads it left got him downfield they bring him down but he's got a first and goal from the 10 we've seen really nice balance here on this drive quarterback's three for three he's picking this defense apart they've also run the ball well to and here they are down close to the goal line this defense has no idea what's coming next and the Bulls have it with a first and goal they move the tight end all over he'll do it himself lowers those pads he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two this offense is really going to try to keep the defense on their heels in the Run game by doing it with different guys it'll be running backs it'll be quarterbacks they may even try to get receivers involved in the Jet Sweep game reverse game as well but a nice play there he'll pull it on the read and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense nice job by the defense shutting down all the options making sure it wasn't easy to read nice job going to the quarterback getting him on the ground and here they come to give it another shot on Third and goal from the three trying to power it in and he takes it to the house touchdown South Florida that's so frustrating for the opposing offense too cuz you're just salivating you're just waiting for an opportunity to get on the field be offense possessed it the entire first quarter and then capped it off with a touchdown that was [Music] amazing ling up to tack one more onto that lead [Applause] and the pat makes it 7even nothing they put together an 81 yd drive and Clos the deal with a three- yd touchdown run the kickoff team out there getting [Applause] set and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 so Boise State's offense has its first opportunity of the day and it won't be easy to throw the ball down the field today David because both of these teams have locked down Corners I mean these guys shut down half of the field playmaking cornerbacks that really can play manto man and lock down the best guys on the other side oh it's out oh looks as if the defense got it as a Defender you love the big hits you know what the cherry on the Sunday is when you get the big hit and force the fumble [Music] [Music] fly gets set first down they'll run it out of the shotgun you know it's so important for offens is to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down the Bulls headed quickly to the line from the gun running back on the move he make the stop as he gets it inside the 30 to the 28 a gain of four and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in theame game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point we've come to the end of the quarter and USF is on top and we've come to the end of the first as we take a moment to check out the stats so [Music] far they've switched end of the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second third and short from the 28 let's see if this is four down territory or if they just pick up the first here oh kinds of room to throw that one in there they make the stop at the 5 yd line but they've got it first and goal well the field goal kicker can step away from the net and go sit down grab some water they're might they not going to need him just quite yet that was a great play call throwing the ball on Third and short in field goal range they get the completion Now setting up first and go and the Bulls have it in scoring position on first and goal they'll run the option and he was fortunate to get that one back to the line of scrimmage at the five no gain on the play can the D deny them on second and goal the run up the middle looking for the score he worked his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line well he gets tackled down at the one yd line so offensively do you feel confident enough on third here trying to hand it off again yeah and I'm taking both these downs and I'm coming downhill I'm running the football trying to get this in the end zone I only got a yard to go I got to be physical they'll run it here on Third and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown bll up and over yamoo be there into the end zone and you don't want to leave your feet very often the football but this is one of those areas where you do in the End Zone near the goal line you smell it a lot of bodies in front of you just get up get over top of them get that touchdown they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they capped it off with a one yd punch about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Bronco offense back out there ready to give it another spin now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football looking to pass it's Nelson he'll throw it zings it complete to the right he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play there's got to be a sense of urgency for this offense right now they're trailing they're going to be kicking off to open in the second half so they need points they need to go Tempo maybe that last first down gets them a little bit of confidence they'll snap this one from the 30 on First and 10 looking to move it through the air unloads to the wide out got his man brought down at the 45 after a 15yd pickup and I love that the QB understood I'm going to put some stank on this I'm going to throw it as hard as I can quickly right when he's breaking out of that curl nice job getting it to him quick so he could get a first down the Broncos will hustle to the line power football with the Run fakes his man out and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one it's really frustrating when you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy on the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense where now they got a a manageable situation we've reached a two-minute warning and this thing has been one-sided and they hope to at least have something to feel good about going into halftime second down coming up he's looking to throw trying to get behind the defense oh and he gets downfield for the big cat catch and he'll run it into the end zone touchdown Broncos Big Time touchdown there to get some much needed momentum you got to find something right who you going to go to to make that big play to get you back into it you're not back in it yet it's not it's not tied you're not there yet but you're starting to inch back into it and get some momentum going [Applause] getting set for the point [Applause] after and after the extra point they've cut the lead in half down 14-7 a very efficient five playay scoring drive and they finished it with an explosive play in the passing game scoring from 47 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive the returner will field it and try to do some business and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive looking for a productive play on first down he wants to throw he lost one down the sideline and that one Falls incomplete they tried to go over the top on first down second down coming up DB does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass incomplete they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 Brown wants to pass throws to the wide out Mak a connection really needed to play like that to get out of their own end they moved the chains they marked it at the 29 when you're a defense you have a choice do you play man or do you play zone they sat back in zone that might change they might change their mind and try to switch to man here shortly in the future now on First and 10 from the 29 he's looking to throw it oh he's going to take a shot at the DB and they won't make the connection looking to make a big play there and I love taking deep shots I think it makes quarterbacks play honest safeties play honest and you could tell just missed a little bit deep on that shot but listen those are shots that we want to take because the risk is definitely worth the reward on second and 10 A4 wide out set trips right they want to just keep throwing it fires to the wide out and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense and that's your goal separate man from ball try to get your shoulder in there on the catch point and really make give him something to think about physically jar that football and knock it out nice job by the defender Ball's at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third third and long he leaves it with his back how about this confidence in the running game and he picks up nine just short of the marker it'll be fourth and one here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half the Bulls will send out the punt unit this will be their first punt of the afternoon here's the return and he's going to get it up to about the 29 yd line before he's brought down boyy state has it back ready to go to work on offense Jesse looking to take it down the field for back toback touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing pully yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place from the 47 yd line on First and 10 he's going to pass finds his big tight end I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones you got to get him involved here comes the offense on second down to throw it's Nelson finds his tight end he steps out of bounds but it will be enough for a first down will they pick up the first against Zone coverage the biggest key there is the quarterback understanding that a it's Zone but B what kind of zone is it is it one high safety is it two high safeties and then you know instinctively where your best throw where your highest percentage completion is based on what type of Zone coverage it's going to be going for it all and swatted down by the defense to stop the scoring opportunity great play by the defensive back showing you his variety of skills his ability to turn the hips his speed running down field turning his head to locate the football and then swatting it away you just can't do it better after misfiring it's second down he's looking to throw makes his connection there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a a little closer well it's a great job by the receiver fighting back across the DB there to get to the inside locate the ball and catch the slam he's going to look for a man on Third and short caught close to the marker it's Genty makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground shotgun fundamentals are so key he was like a short stop caught the shotgun snap and right away rifled it out of his hands like he was turning two that was beautiful time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half from the Red Zone looking for a space makes the grab that completion will take them inside the 10 to the N yd line the offense burns his third and final timeout of the half and as the clock is winding down here in the first half they'll send out the field goal team splits the upright it's good and now'll trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close the half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update gentlemen you've had yourselves a superb broadcast so far today in Tampa and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Raymond James Stadium and the Bulls will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half let's see if he can make a play on the return didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 boyy State ready to send out that offense he'll start the Third quarter with the Run find some space enough to get five to the 22 draws and screens are a great way to slow down really aggressive pass rushes it allows the defensive ends and the defensive tackles to run up field the offensive lineman kind of push him up field go down to the next level try to sneak in a big play halfway there on first down it's second and five scanning the field it's Nelson finds the tight end and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short gain it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule what that means is keeping third Downs management that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play call they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 looking to move the chains they throw it complete to the left and with that effort they pick up a fresh set of downs they have it at at the 34 yd line there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football game the give to the back stuffed almost in his tracks but strong enough to pick up one to the 35 brings up second didn't get much on first down it's second and nine on the run it's Genty that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physical you hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air get it out on the screen he's out of bounds but not before picking up enough for the first down and he didn't get a big gain you you want to call that play and probably want to get more yards but you could tell that was super close from seriously busting loose nice job running the screen getting the ball to your playmaker if you can could just make one more guy miss that might have been huge hand off from the gun and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this after the productive first down play it's second and six leaves it with the running back and they'll bring him down after a short pickup and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a m they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength about to snap it for the eighth time on this drive and it's a third down and four steps away to find some room at the 35 he's got room and he scoots his way to the first down and then slides to avoid the hit this guy just gives you nightmares I mean he's just got so much electricity he just pulls it down and chews up yards like it's nothing that's a quarterback a quarterback doing that to your defense and the Broncos come to the line in the hurry up off the play fake on first down wants to throw can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down and finally the defense is able to get some pressure on this quarterback theyve been trying all game long different ways to affect him weren't able to get there but on that play because of the pressure it affected his accuracy that's why the ball Falls incomplete they'll Run play action finds his big tight end and he is going to lose yardage nowhere to run as he is forced out of bounds ball spotted at the 27 they're facing a third and long to try to keep their hopes of a touchdown alive looking to throw it's Nelson going to try to pop one on the screen they got a little bit um but they didn't get the first down and you obviously trying to get the first down but you try to slip in those screens occasionally on third down I like when you slip them in there try to make a big play catch the defense maybe being a little aggressive and on fourth down here comes the field goal unit after the earlier field goal they'll try again this time a 43 yd [Applause] attempt and the kicker delivers the three to salvage that drive so they were able to put up a three spot on on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather he'll start the return inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the offense set for a first down [Applause] play give to the back stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 up as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter they'll try to get outside runs through the tackle and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one we've come to the end of the quarter and USF is on top they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game [Music] summary one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter [Applause] finish he'll keep it himself got enough for the first and he's still going really good job to pick up a chunk of yardage and get it out to the 39 yd line well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down quarterback on the keeper they can rely on this guy to pick up solid yardage when they need it and he's out to the 43 these read options are so hard to diag know just like right there he picks up a little chunk of yards not a big chunk but it's so easy when you run the read options why is that why is it easy because if you want to play Fast to the football well then fine I'm going to pull the ball right now and use your aggressiveness against you but if you want to sit back then fine I'm going to give the ball right now and and get a little chunk of yards he got his Man Down field and they exploited that soft spot and they get it down to the 35 I'll tell you what that's great exec between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch the Bulls in the hurry up the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so first down didn't exactly go according to plan let's see what they can dial up on second down reys I got him right where I want him okay I'm going to throw the football now I can get back in shotgun forget the running game stuff we're going to play a little pitch and catch and see how good that secondary is off play action unloads to the Wi out it's CAU they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down love the play call offensively because you've got the lead the defense expects you to run the ball you just did it the previous play so there you dial up play action set up an easy throw and you keep the clock ticking and the Bulls have it with a first and 10 leaves it with the back a strong tackle and wrap up from the Junior [Music] at this point the defense has little choice but to sell out to stop the run on second and seven from the gun the ground game and they'll stop him after a minimum pickup timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on third down he drops to throw fires into the end zone and it's intercepted a huge fourth quarter play for this defense and they capitalize not only on the pick but on the great return to improve this field position and that one got away from the quarterback they've got the lead but it's not by much just can't make mental mistakes like that the football never should have gone to that intended target and the defense make some pay could they now take the lead here in the [Applause] fourth the Bronco offense back out there ready to give it another spin guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win clock's running and they'll try to get to the line warp speed for second down looking for a man it's Nelson getting some heat under heat and he gets rid of it nowhere close on that one as he got drilled trying to deliver the football and now they face third down it's been tough for this QBE in this one very small Windows to throw into and he's been under some duress as well it's hard to find a rhythm as a QB in those types of situations and that's why it appears as though his team's going to be leaving here with an [Applause] N oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down well if that last incompletion is any indicator it's going to be hard to convert this fourth and short coming up you're trailing late in the game you've got to come up with a big complete but where are you going to go where's your best match up here on this next critical down try to get it on the ground stop short of the marker and they stop with this defense and they get the ball back great spot to start this drive for the offense out of the gun the running back has it and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back back and preserve time for their offense after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and [Applause] seven from the gun the running back has it quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense and not a surprise by this offense right this is a game management type situation I want to run the football I want to run the clock the clock is my friend with the lead late in the fourth quarter inside of a minute I'm going to keep this ground game going and make you have to look at that clock continue to take man this quarterback is going to have to be deadly accurate here in this two-minute situation right that's really what he's had to be all game long he hasn't had a lot of yards because the coverage has just been so tight he's had to be pinpoint perfect it's been hard just to find completions and no doubt that's going
