Pregame [Applause] it's Madden NFL 24 and the question is are you ready for some football it's the Los Angeles Rams and the Indianapolis Colts coming up next EA Sports coverage of the National Football League is on the air coming up we've got what should prove to be a good one as it'll be the Los Angeles Rams taking on the Indianapolis [Applause] Colts with Charles Davis as always I'm Brandon G Charles you talk about story lines in this one I think it begins and ends with our two quarterbacks certainly two of the best in the business and nowadays I don't think you can get by for long periods of time without a Top Flight quarterback the way the game is played with all the responsibility he has and how the game flows through him if he's not on the top of his game your team's not going to benefit at all [Applause] 1st quarter just about time to rock as toe gets ready to meet leather and off we go on EA Sports and no run back here so they'll bring it out to the 25 so out come the Rams now for their first possession and leading him out their veteran quarterback [Applause] [Applause] on First and 10 Warner throwing right and that's complete and he's taken down but able to slip across the 35 just like that it's a gain of 12 and a first down on their first play well this is where reading defenses and practice time comes in the play you got to know what you're running versus Zone versus man and how to run the proper route and they just executed that one pretty well now a first down throw Warner and his throw is going to be incomplete I think he could have scanned downfield forever but there wasn't anything available ends up throwing an incompletion and I think he'll take [Applause] that here's second and 10 now [Applause] Warner going right side here and that's complete and they'll get him to the ground he has another first down at the Colts 40 23 yds the pickup there I think when they look at their offense they think to themselves weapons weapons everywhere and they want to move the ball around they want to spread it to different people but you absolutely know they want to get this man involved as well and that's what they just did on that play now from Colts territory here's a first and 10 right at the 40 to throw [Applause] Warner a quick throw there is incomplete the coverage keyed in on him since that last completion his way he earned a little more attention on that route and that made it a lot tougher to get a clean throw his way second and 10 here's Warner and that nearly an interception here on this opening drive but he gets a repri it's third down well how about the challenge we're seeing here in this game early man coverage against some fleet receivers that time the defense won now they face a third and 10 after back-to- back incompletions corner to [Applause] throw a he had a man open but he missed him and it's incomplete so now on comes the field goal unit and wow this is no ordinary try here they'll spot it at the 47 so call it a 57 yd attempt and this is good from 57 yds out that was bombs away right there and the Rams have the first points here it's three nothing they were probably hoping to get him a little bit closer for a shorter field goal but he was able to get it done from Deep nice little tester for him to begin things huh I think he was hoping for a little bit more of a chip shot instead they made him stretch it out a little bit but he's got to feel great now that he put it through the pipes [Applause] after the main field goal zerline back out there now to send this one [Applause] away taken at about the one and he'll get it up past the 20 to about the 22 so the Colts now coming out for their opening drive and leading them out there they 65 quarterback [Applause] [Music] throwing on first down is Manning looking left side and he's got him in that's [Applause] James here's a second and eight Manning toward the sideline and he will have the first down as he was able to keep the feet in bounds a nice pick up there 10 yds and it'll move the sticks I do have to admit I like it when it all comes together when the top part catching the football right whether you're catching it with your hands or cradling it comes together with the legs in this case the feet do a little toe tap to stay in bounds and complete the catch what a great job by crew on the camera shot love when you see the grass or on the field Turf those rubber pellets flying up great catch a that's some good closing speed there defensively because that looked open for a minute but that's great work with the ball in the air never gave up converged on his man and broke the play up shifts by him and he has a big gain inside the 40 before being dropped that one 28 yds on the ground as always no booting interest here but that was pretty wasn't it to see him break through and then pick up his stride yeah the guy carrying the ball loves it I think the o line they might like and take more satisfaction out of those runs than anybody else so right without a doubt because they're the ones that often have created it so from Rams territory now it's first and 10 at the 38 on on playaction it's Manning it's complete here to Ty Y Hilton and he is out of bounds inside the 30 well coaches always talk about finding balance on offense I don't think you get much more balance than this big time run big time pass a one-w combination looked pretty good how about that let's see if let's see if they can continue to take that kind of a punch though on second down here's Manning he go is right back the way of Hilton backto back receptions for him and it's another first down I think that's a big pick up for a first down because when you run a drag route against Zone you're sometimes asking for trouble because you might run into a Defender yeah well there they ran into a first down executed it to [Applause] Perfection James and he's got four down inside the 20 to the 18 now a second and six they run it with James and brought down but not before they get it inside the 10 to the seven 43 yds rushing for him on their opening drive the contest and it's now first and goal running games played a huge part in getting them down to this point on the field I say stay with it keep pounding the football keep driving keep grinding yeah even down in the Red Zone keep going for it no doubt about it dance with what BR you here's James and he'll get into the end zone touchdown Indianapolis taking it in from Seven yds away and the Colts are able to answer the early three points and take a first quarter lead some good running there at the end of the drive he had the burst that set up the first and goal and then one play later he's in the end zone Brandon what I liked about that sequence is I'm not sure who made the play call but they understood the situation understood the momentum a nice hard charging run give it right back to him and let him cap things off [Applause] the kickoff unit is out on the field and they will send this one away and here comes a return from just beyond the goal line and a nice job there on special teams to limit him to inside the 15 as he's dropped at the 14 so the Rams coming back onto the field their second Drive of the game and last time able to get three it's not what they wanted they wanted six but they got at least something they mustered something out of the drive they'll take it just I like the way you've described it not ideal but they'll take it anything to put some points on the board but this time on offense they don't even want to see the field goal kicker Trot on the field they want that ball in the end zone yeah they'll be going for six it'll go as a gain of four and that will bring up second down well it's time for them to be good teammates right here and what I mean by that is possess the ball for a little while get at least two first downs give their defense a chance to settle down a little bit after they give up a touchdown second and [Applause] six down he goes at the 23 a pickup of four [Applause] they need two here's third [Applause] down a play fake now Warner he's got his Target that's complete and he is going to have a Rams first down as they're able to get the third down conversion and Brandon from our time in college football where receivers weren't running the traditional NFL route tree one thing they did learn find open areas find soft spots and set up and catch the ball and I think we just saw that there yeah we saw that indeed picking up the first from the 34 now here's first and [Applause] 10 they'll give to ful up the middle and he Rumble for about five up close to the 40 if you're a coach you'll absolutely take that run every time on first down because it really set you up to go in a number of directions here on second here's a second and [Applause] five now Warner got a man open it's Tyler higgy and higgy going to have a Rams first down he's up to the 47 it's a seven yd gain and good enough to move the chains that was a route run not just with dexterity but with intelligence found the hole in the zone made sure the quarterback saw him and was able to make the sure catch and flip the down marker back to one throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete so after the incompletion on first now second and [Applause] 10 out of the gun here's Warner throwing the out route incomplete that's Hol and they'll get him to the ground he has another first down at the Colts 42 give him 11 yards that time and a new set of downs four now from Colts territory here's a first and 10 at the 42 yd [Applause] line now a draw Play It's Faulk and a good push up front and he's able to navigate his way down inside the 30 another nice gain 13 yds that time and another first down seemed like they picked an excellent time there Charles to go with a draw play they certainly did caught him a little overeager trying to get into the back field and get to the quarterback they use their speed and their aggressiveness against them didn't they it'll be Warner on first down it's complete he finds faul here and he'll be brought down inside the 20 at the 19 and that's good for a pickup of 10 yards and they'll be left with a second and about a foot [Applause] Warner from the gun firing quickly here and that's complete that good for six as they keep this drive right on [Applause] rolling they had to settle for three last Drive hoping this second go round ends in six in good position first and 10 Warner that's complete to the tight end evett call it a gain of six on the play and it's second down that tight end position it just seems to continue to evolve every year in the NFL yeah you're getting really terrific athletes a lot of them maybe were wide receivers at one point they continue to give you speed great hands and big bodies which make them excellent targets for quarterbacks now a give side for f and he'll be brought down here at the three yd line a 5yd gain there makes it first and goal well they came into this game saying it was important that they set the tone and show that they can run the football I believe that they've done that here in the first quarter looking to throw Warner looking in zone but it's incomplete down this cl to the goal line first down surprised that wasn't a run I am and you know I'm old school I want to run the ball on first down in this situation because second down that gives me that option of running play action and maybe throwing it they'll go again from the three here on second and goal Jackson going to be hit and met at the line of scrimmage they get him down at the three it'll go as no gain on the play and now they're looking at a third and goal Brandon we've seen an incomplete pass and an attempted run not getting them anywhere at all I'm not sure they're committed on this drive about what they want to do I just wonder if they just say listen let's line up and run this thing and make it four down territory on the hand off this is f and he gets halfway there down to the one yd line only a yard there so it brings up fourth and goal this is a long drive offensively wouldn't you hate to end this with just three points does it feel like during a ball game you have certain narratives going on and there's certain drives that seem to take on just a bit more importance than others this feels like one of those doesn't it to me three points here a major let down this is the time to go and put six on the board on fourth down Warner and this is caught he's got it touchdown La a one yd touchdown reception and the Rams decision to go for it pays off with six points there was no going through the progressions on that touchdown pass yeah nor was it necessary his receiver won that route early presented himself no reason to wait go ahead and put it on him and score a touchdown Now Greg zerline on for the extra point and it's through and that makes the lead 107 and what a drive that was was 16 plays all told and the result for the Rams a touchdown [Applause] now after the touchdown it's zerline he'll kick it [Applause] away and he returns this to the 22 second Drive coming up here for the Indianapolis Colts so remember Charles last time they were out here they scored but they just saw the opposition score and they're trailing right now so they're trying to keep Pace here they need a touchdown Drive well if you're fan of offense you're loving this but if you're a fan of defense this is tough to watch and it's also tough to keep that up when youve just watched your opponent March down the field on a scoring drive that lasts into double digit snaps you need a score here not just to follow the momentum from your last drive but put the onus back on your opponent and that's what they're doing right now swapping that onus back and forth the result only four yards there on the play and it'll be second down here's Manning to throw a quick throw here that's [Applause] complete 107 our score after one right here on EA Sports second quarter now from Indianapolis with the homestanding Colts in possession here's third and a few 2nd quarter inches as they've got it as we resume action and they'll try and run the option to pick it up and this is going to be a Colts first down as the tackle made here at the 36 and this is one of those plays that if you can use it to keep the chains moving it's a good play and not only that it tends to Tamp down the pass rushers because they have to recognize this play and stay at home the quarterback uses it well read option keeps it and picks up a first down with some nice running Manning now on first down looking middle and it's incomplete great coverage there all around really didn't have many options to throw the football very little chance that that one was going to be completed every receiver was locked [Applause] up they'll try again from the 36 on second and 10 on the ground it's Jay and he will lose yardage back to the 34 yd line it'll be a loss of a full three yards there and it also brings up third down and that's exactly what you're looking for at the inside linebacker spot versatility he can drop into coverage or as he did on that last play use his speed to get to the perimeter and knock the ball carrier for a loss now on Third and long they'll look to throw work in the middle of the field and he's got him man complete and he is going to have a first down as they're able to get the third down [Applause] conversion from Midfield here's Manning that's going to be caught by Richardson they'll give him four yards there at it's second [Applause] down throwing is Manning and his throw is going to be incomplete he already came through for them this drive no surprise that they were hoping he could do it again so they need six yards here on third down they're two for two on third down try so far on this drive now Manning and that will be incomplete so two third down conversions on this drive but not able to get a third and now they deal with fourth down this has certainly played well so far in this game and the coverage has been tight on just about every throw forced a few here so far in this game and now it brings up fourth down so they're forced to punt on Fourth as this one's away and this will hit just beyond the goal line as it's into the end zone for a Touchback the Rams offense now making their way out to take over well certainly they'd rather have the scenario they had last time now Charles remember they had the short field they took it in the end zone now this is going to have to be a longer more sustained drive if they want to get points yeah a little bit more of a quick strike opportunity Last Time by where they were on the field and you're exactly right about that but now backed up a little bit what's that old expression we love to use time to matriculate the ball down the field and try and do it again playaction it's Warner he finds his man complete that's H it'll go down as a gain of six and it'll be second second [Applause] [Music] down operating from the gun Warner throw left side complete that's H and he's going to lose yardage and be backed up to the 25 call that a loss of a yard and things get a little more difficult here third and five and that was a heck of a play there on the outside partner sometimes I think on a play like this as a corner you've got to think to yourself all I got to do is slow him down so others can come over and support but in this case he said forget that I've got this sorry you had to make the run for nothing fellas and he is caught and he is going to have a Rams first down by about a yard as they find a way to convert there on third down and five and that's understanding where the markers are because it's not just running to them because on the catch you can actually be pushed back before the first down he's getting past it and allowing that opportunity to drip back towards the first down line and still having picked it up really well run here's a ball thrown right side and complete and they've got it well across Midfield down to the 40 before it's all said and done that one nearly 30 yd 29 officially boy everything clicking on this drive he's four for four now and that throw may be the best of the bunch this offense is really humming and they pick up another first down now from Colts territory here's a first and 10 right at the [Applause] 40 now a give left side to faul and shoving his way inside the 35 and he works it past the 30 almost to the 25 this gain not quite as good as the but still over 40 ydd between the two some big plays in the passing game on this drive and here's one out of the running game so the passing game loosening things up now there's room to [Applause] roam movement there on the offensive line a little quick and a 5yd [Applause] penalty you serious [Applause] first the F start backs him up five first and [Applause] 15 now Warner and that one off the mark behind him [Applause] incomplete so they'll come up after the incompletion for second [Applause] down here's Warner now a quick throw there but it's going to be [Applause] incomplete the Rams on third down they've hit two for four thus far this will be third and 15 water to throw and he's going to go down they get to him back at the 40 multiple players combined for their team's first sack of the game now partner you know what I'm going to say before I even say it yeah you just cannot take a sack in that spot you're exactly right you can't take a sack in that spot potentially now a three-point swing right there [Applause] so coming on now is the field goal unit they're going to try for three and he'll need all the leg he's got here they'll spot it at the 47 so call it a 57 yd attempt and that is no good he gave it a good run that wasn't more than a foot or so wide to the left and that will keep this a three-point gain everything looked good good snap good hold sometimes though the ball just doesn't want to go where you want it and this one winds up no good and now Indianapolis set to take the field and they had a long drive going last time but it stalled out but still maybe something positive to carry forward from that last Drive well a few different things that you carry forward number one as you noted they were moving it pretty well so that gives them a lot of confidence the second part is keep your defense off the field gives them a chance to rest up a little bit and last but not least you've taken a good look at what you've done on offense noted where the weaknesses are and you know when you want to come back to him like you're organized with your points a b and c the drive starting with a first down 11 yds on that [Applause] pickup they'll try the left side James and the big boys up front they're going to stop him right at the line call it no gain on the play and it'll be second down Brandon one thing about blitzes they really confuse offensive lineman at times and what you have to do is lock in on the guy right in front of you if you don't you saw the end result defensive tackle end up making the play on second down now it's James it'll go as a loss of a yard so now they deal with third and 11 you have to love and admire the effort because he almost broke free in the back field but you also have to love and admire what the defense did swarmed the play and made sure he couldn't get anywhere a loss of yardage what do they have for this third and 11 to throw is [Applause] Manning and this is going to be incomplete the frustration evident there because he couldn't find anyone on third down and he left no doubt that he was throwing that one away so look at this here's the field goal unit coming out and he is going to need to bomb this one they spot it on the Midfield strip so it is a 60yd attempt here and I don't think this has the carry it does not it's no good and instead of tying it up they'll remain down by three I don't care who you are 60 yards is a very ambitious attempt hard to make even in practice in the best of conditions and now worst of all you give the other guys the ball to start their drive at Midfield [Applause] well they tried the field goal from just inside of 70 yds it missed and now this offense set up nicely in Midfield a first down run good for about three second and seven coming up not a huge carry there on first down but not all of them will be but still all in all a positive play for the offense it's all about picking up at least a few to set up what you're going to do here on second down from the 48 yd line here's second down at seven CH throw Warner open man right side is cup complete and he's got this down to the 35 13 yds on his first catch it's a first down as well [Applause] [Applause] back to throw Warner he's going to find his running back it's complete and he is out of bounds inside the 30 that'll give him eight that time and they'll be left with second and a couple [Applause] looking to throw Warner those are the ones you dream of his Defenders I think if he gets eyes on the ball a little bit earlier he might come away with it instead it's going to wind up as just an incomplete [Music] pass they missed a field goal on their last drive here they need something to even get into field goal range on third down on the give here's Faulk and boy he is very close to a first down but from where they're spotting that football he's going to be a foot or so short I'll bet they thought they had pick that one up because it was a third and two call and they got awfully close now we're fourth in inches I wonder if they think they're feeling lucky here and maybe want to go pick it up it would be a very makeable field goal try from here but instead they're going to go for [Applause] it back to throw War Corner able to find the open man that's complete and he is going to have the Rams first down no problem there they get the first by plenty on Fourth and inches I don't know about you but I'm going to give them a little bit of credit for fortitude there fourth and inches and they don't run the football normally just wedge your way through fall forward find the yardage they took a shot and put in the air and it paid off maybe they saw the defense overc committing a lot of confidence there though because even if they overc commit you just want to make sure you get the first down you throw an incompletion on fourth down there they're going to second guess you the rest of the game and that's good for a gain of six and that'll bring up second [Applause] down looking to throw Warner quick hitter here it's complete and the Rams are going to be set up with a first and goal on a pass play that moves them all the way down to the one zone coverage here defensively they're going to let their tight end run a drag across the field this is where a linebacker gets forced to pass him off that time the receiver gets lost a little bit he's able to make the catch and pick up good yardage in a first [Applause] down again he'll drop to throw and it's complete he's got it at the end Zone touchdown Rams from a yard out and the Rams are able to stretch out their lead an out route there for the score a quick out route there for the score yeah you're not really suring the defense on this one you're just counting on timing making this play happen onew balls out of his hands knows where he's going just puts it to the outside touchdown zerine now for the pat it's good to make it 177 that time a nine-play drive and it winds up with a touchdown for Los Angeles [Applause] now after the touchdown it's zerline he'll kick it away and this will not be returned it'll come out to the 25 here comes the Indianapolis offense now as they get set to take over they Trail by 10 177 as they come up on a first and 10 now Manning that ball caught by Harrison and they work this well up field across the 45 and a nice gain of 21 yds any questions of how they'd approach this drive were answered right there they come out throwing and they get a nice pick up here toward the end of the first half first down now but that clock rolling working from the gun Manning complete Richardson has it and they'll get him down as he's inside the 40 15 more yards there and quickly another first down not only have they completed a couple on this drive but they peeled off some pretty good chunks of yardage too absolutely great start two nice plays in the pass game now can they continue to feed off that a first and 10 here and you know if they could just get three out of this something about whittling it to a oncore game and half that might provide a psychological boost and he's going to get a solid gain of nine before being brought down second and right at a [Applause] yard second down and a yard Manning and he's going to be taken down back around the 35 yd line the Colts going to use the first of their timeouts as they'll stop it with just over 40 seconds to go in the first half they missed a field goal on their last drive here they need something to even get into field goal range on third [Applause] down a throw there but that's going to wind up incomplete the LA defense up the snuff and coverage there pushes this to fourth down and this defense definitely in his head there on third down and he's pretty fortunate they didn't call him for grounding on this one that was a good 10et over everyone's head and his kick here is good and they're back within a touchdown it's 17- 10 so he missed his first attempt remember but this time he gets back on the bike and knocks it home yeah sometimes that first one can really impact you moving forward it can just stay with you too long and affect everything else you do during the game in this case though able to shake it off he's riding high again [Applause] the kickoff team on the field now as they will send this one away fighting his way through contact and he had no room to run as he's tackled down inside the 20 the Rams about to go on offense one final time in this first half and the ball backed way up so thinking with this amount of time on the clock probably just sit on it and we'll see these two teams go to the lockers yeah I don't think you want to overthink it in this situation either side of the ball just go ahead and finish up the half and get on out and talk about [Applause] it a little under 30 seconds to go we'll see how they play it here on First and 10 out of the gun here's Warner short throw it's higgy so just three yards on the completion there and it'll be second down and he's the epitome of what we call the move tight end a guy that you can line up anywhere in the slot out wide in tight doesn't really matter because he has such great skills you want to utilize him in all aspects of your passing offense and there he was in the slot for the catch this time they'll just keep this on the ground and this will go as a short gain on what will be the final Act of this first half so we have reached halftime with a touchdown that's the difference on the scoreboard and as we send you down to Orlando where Jonathan Coachman has our EA Sports halime report coach all right Brandon thanks very much welcome everyone to our brand new studios here in downtown Orlando in the EA Sports halftime report all right we were cly treated to an entertaining first both these teams with some high points and maybe a couple of points as well so it's going to be a question of who can be the most disciplined team going forward [Applause] [Applause] one touchdown is the difference 17 10 3rd quarter our score and we are back underway on EA Sports here comes a return from a few steps into the end zone and that decision to bring it out ends up not being a good one cost him about five yds as he's tackled it to 20 out come the Colts they'll have it first here to start quarter number three well Charles we saw pretty entertaining first half close ball game remember there toward the end of the second quarter the opposition scored to take the lead now we'll see if these guys can get a score of their own to regain that lead lead yeah they want to have that type of a response don't they because they want to find a way to take control of this ball game one more time gauntlets been thrown down they want to see if they're ready to answer it Manning now on first down and that's Off the Mark incomplete that pass just a little bit off it looked like maybe he tried to force it in there game speed always different no matter what you do in practice you can't simulate it right so your decision making everything has to be a little bit quicker sometimes it can throw you off until you adjust on second down it's James and he will lose yardage on the play back at his own 19 yard line it'll go as a loss of a yard so now they deal with third and 11 continues to be a struggle for this offense and this home crowd they're growing a little Restless here in the second half and I think they've just got to look at how they're trying to move the football yeah you want to run it but maybe you spread it out maybe some swing passes that can take the place of runs and give you a little more space and the Rams got him they bring him down it'll be a loss of eight on the sack and it's going to lead him to Fourth Down partner the Mike linebacker the middle linebacker has so many different responsibilities how excited do you think he was to get home with that Blitz yeah he wants a sack he got it [Applause] the Colts send out their punter as he'll kick it away for the second time 46 on his first kick this one in that neighborhood as well that's taken at around the 40 call that a 46 yd punt with a net of 40 on the 6yd return and the Rams will go on offense here with a first and 10 [Applause] so good field position for the Rams as they come up first and 10 at their own [Applause] 46 now Warner throwing middle but it's incomplete I like the calmness of how he played the ball here no Panic in his eyes as that throw arrived tracked it from the moment it left the quarterback's hand and that's just where he needed to be to knock it away after the incomplete pass here now is second and 10 back to throw Warner it's complete he finds faul here and down he goes at the 45 after a pick up of nine with all the success they've had thrown with football as a pass rusher you know you got to come hard when you see them drop back to throw so I really like this call to counter after that pass rush with a screen it turns into positive yardage a lot of times the offense says just replace the rusher with the ball and it turns into a good play Warner he's got his Target that's complete and he is going to have a Rams first down as they're able to get the third down conversion got to say it was a little surprised to see him Charles come out in the shotgun on Third and less than a yard yeah but the way the NFL is nowadays we hardly ever see anyone really run for it on short yardage so they're going to throw the football more times than not that was a nice easy Rhythm throw right there and they pick up the first down it'll be Warner on first down short throw it's higgy and he is out of bounds inside the 30 so the completion good for six yds and that's going to bring up second down all right say it with me now a lot of different words we can come up with maybe we go back and forth after that play getting his toes tap down to make that catch crafty yep Wy oh definitely all the veteran names you name it has every move in the book and continued to get better throughout his career so he can make that type of a catch now a second down throw for the inzone but it's incomplete sure that pass was incomplete as they made an attempt to get a big one down field but that's okay because the second part of that is if you don't get the completion at least you've told the defense you're trying to stretch them out a little bit and they may have to change accordingly off the RPO he completes it and they take him down losing yardage back at the 27 and they call it a loss of a yard there and it'll be fourth down excuse my snarkiness here but isn't the idea of completing a pass supposed to mean you get down field and gain yards especially on third down yeah that one how about the defense figured that one out in a big way yeah they completed it all right and lost yardage zerin kick is up and through and they double him up here that makes our score 20-1 so the lead grows here incrementally but I think the way their defense is playing you feel okay with just getting three they've definitely been Stout so far but now that could all change because if one guy gets loose for 70 yards this is a different game but as it stands ski goals are good just keep adding to that lead after the main field goal zerline back out there now to send this one away and he'll be brought down right on the chalk of the 20 the Colts getting another possession here on offense these guys definitely hoping for a better showing than their last appearance they couldn't really even move the football much beyond the Shadows of their own goal post Charles we'll see if they can get a better more sustained drive going here yeah and every team that we ever talk to says the exact same thing when you start a drive from that deep in your own territory the goal is a minimum of at least two first downs because even if you have to punt then you change the field position right you flip the field a little bit they didn't get that done this time they want to string together a nice drive and help themselves out just a yard on the pickup there and it'll bring up a second and nine I if they want to start getting back into this game it behooves them to get better on first down yeah certainly not what they were looking for there out of the opening play of this drive Manning now throwing quickly to the flat so they'll get nothing out of that play and that's going to set up a tough third and nine that was impressive to me because while it was a pass play they still rallied to the football like they wereing running lanes and they were able to put the receiver on the ground this offense in desperate need of a conversion as they come up on third down from the gun it's [Applause] Manning and that is incomplete looks like another empty possession offensively and you're at that point of the game where you can't afford too many more of these so this is going to require some heavy thinking on the sideline to figure out what they can can do to crack this defense the Colts send out their punter as he'll come on to kick this one away fair catch called for and made right at the 25 yd line so possession goes over here on the punt and they will take over first and 10 [Applause] [Applause] throwing to start the Drive Warner out to the flat that's complete to his running back call it a gain of three on the play and that'll make it second down [Applause] Warner from the gun over the middle complete it's Hol and he'll be up ended at the 33 following a gain of three and guess what it brings up third down [Applause] [Music] third and [Applause] three looking to throw Warner oh he had him he was open but he couldn't get it to him it's incomplete well the other day they told us when we've got third and five or less we have to be able to convert and I guess every team would say that Charles but an opportunity missed there what they were trying to tell us is they believe it's a up game at that point and they like some matchups that they had thought they could exploit them unable to do so on that play on is the punter Hecker as he gets this one away and that one hits at the seven but bounds into the end zone and that'll be a Touchback and now Indianapolis set to take the field and Charles a very uninspired effort the last time we saw them out there it was a quick three and out then they putted the football yeah and you never want to get stopped so soundly during a series but would be even worse now is letting it happen again right here they've got to get [Music] going they'll start on the ground here on first down and they'll get eight out of this before being stopped at the 28 first play of the drive let's give credit all around excellent blocking but a guy carrying the ball he was the finisher a really nice run line of scrimmage the 28 now as they come up on second and a couple oh he'll want that one back incomplete he doesn't drop too many in that department third down one thing we know about RPO throws they don't take long to develop he had him wide open to the outside hit him with it but I think his eyes were looking down field trying to see that open grass ands up dropping it that's a missed opportunity Manning looking to throw on Third and two oh he tried to fit it in on the slant and it's intercepted and his guys are going to take over at the 39 yd line Brandon this is a veteran quarterback back there he should know better than to make a throw like this this is definitely not his best ball and I think he knew this was trouble the second it was leaving his hand the football going back to the Rams now they'll have good field position here following the interception and a chance to build on their lead as they start with a first and [Applause] 10 so from the 39 now they'll come up on a first and [Applause] 10 one one back in the back field he'll get the carry able to break through that initial contact and winds up getting about three there it's second down well that's just a pile of bodies there and that's when you kind of find out who's a tough guy right who can stand up and make a play it was only a three- yd run but for both sides they had to walk away from that feeling like okay I can stand up when the going gets tough in here they'll go right back to the ground with Fulk and down right around the 30 two yd line four yds on the pickup Well you certainly have to give a little credit here because they're playing this game now at their Pace this is ball control football sustained runs taking their time and making it work they'll come up now third and [Applause] three a play fake now Warner firing quickly here and that's complete and he is going to have a Rams first down they needed three he doubled that he got six would it be safe to say that as precise as routes are supposed to be running the NFL maybe they're not quite as precise in college ball that's accurate yeah and I think we saw a college route in the NFL there just find the soft spot find The Dead Zone and find the first down and that's what he just did throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete the coverage was good but I just wonder if they absolutely fooled the quarterback back on that play I think he was expecting something else ended up with nowhere to throw the football successfully so now second and 10 after the incompletion on first [Applause] down playaction it's Warner and this will be well too low for him to bring in it's incomplete he released that awkwardly and almost looked like a pitcher who gripped his fast ball a little too hard and let him go late and it bounced in front of the plate yeah one of those fast balls that ends up at 57 ft not 60 ft 6 in just a little short with the arm which is unusual because we saw him in warm-ups he's got a big strong arm when he delivers it with confidence work in the middle of the field and he's got a man complete touchdown Rams a great play there 26 yards and the Rams are able to widen their advantage that drive that really increased their cushion felt very military to me very precise methodical that's one of the words you've taught me and they just got it done and slowly but surely now starting to pull away a little bit things looking good for them here in the third quarter not only pulling away you mentioned that slowly but surely you also drain clock too with a drive like that so you really give yourself an advantage zerline connects on the extra point and that'll make this a three-score game now the lead moves to 17 take now after the touchdown it's zerline he'll kick it [Music] [Applause] away and some good special teams coverage as they bring him down just outside of the 15 now the Colts offense gets ready to head back on the field I kind of feel like they've reached a Do or Die point in this game Charles if they're going to try to pull off an impressive comeback it has to start right here right now yeah now they've got a final chance to get out of this situation but they also understand they've got to move the ball and move it fast in addition they need to save as much time so they can get two more possessions pretty nice work defensively there on the first down run as they hold him to a gain of a couple I know we can't hear what's going on in that hudle right now but I'll guarantee you at least one offensive lineman is saying my bad we simply couldn't move them off the line of scrimmage we've got to do a better job trying to root those guys out of of there second down and [Music] eight they'll keep it on the ground James and he's going to get this one across the 30 yd line so they sight the Right Guard this time with a holding penalty and so many different assignments you can have at that position and sometimes you might just be a step too late and have to grab and hold on here's Manning to [Music] throw that'll be caught by James and he'll get it up here this time to the 21 call it a gain of 12 but of course not a first down due to the previous [Applause] penalty this offense in desperate need of a conversion as they come up on third down to throw it's man inning that he is caught and up to the 35 before they're able to knock him down a 14 yd gain for Indianapolis and also move the sticks well we talk all the time about playing situational football right now I think the scoreboard is dictating what they need to do where they are in this game they've got to push the ball down field take their shots try and get big chunks of yardage in a short amount of time that was a nice play there throwing on first down his Manning and his throw here is incomplete but plain and simple that's the second time today that he's dropped the pass and that one I think maybe even a little easier than the earlier one that he dropped surprising was this game announced as a night game prior to and maybe his rym is just off he got thrown off he's going to have to wake up enjoy the sunshine and go play again it's [Music] Manning and it's knocked away and incomplete an attempted a deep ball there they didn't get it but boy they're going to need a few of those to actually hit in order to get back into this game good thing they do have a little bit of time here still left in the contest decent sized deficit but not one that they can't manage so back-to- back incompletions and that has him staring at a third and 10 Manning now to throw pass taken in by his big tight end and this is going to be another first down as the tackle is going to be made at the Rams 44 yd line give him 22 there on the third down conversion that was good protection there no that was great protection there because it allowed him to lock in on his receiver although I think he was looking for his tight end on the corner route all the way nice connection there for a really nice gain over the middle he'll get it to Harrison and that's good for a pickup of 10 yards and that'll leave him with a second and just a few inches left partney sold the go route really well thought he was going deep then curled it back inside for a nice completion DBS love when they pump the brakes don't they yeah that's really that's really a whole lot of fun it's almost like you say listen if you're going to sell the go just go and let's see who's faster playaction Manning it's a short one here complete to the tight end only a gain of a yard but that's all they needed they got a completion there but that's clearly an example of one side happy the other side not very happy defense very hey take one or two yards we're good with them that offense you got to expect to get more on the passing play from the 32 now here's first and 10 Again they'll throw with Manning looking left side and he's got a man that's James and he'll work it inside the 30 to the 29 yd line from the 29 here's a second at seven throwing now is [Music] Manning and this one incomplete too much contact to hold on to that one and it's third down as soon as he leaked out and began his route someone on the defensive side broke with him and arrived just in time to separate him from another reception the 22 is the line to gain here on third down throwing is Manning and the Rams got him they bring him down the defense rising to the challenge and setting him back on the sack and the attempt at three will have to come from the other end of the field as time has run out on this third quarter you're watching the NFL on EA Sports back now in Indianapolis it's the Colts so they've got the football but they've got work to do trailing here as we begin the fourth 4th quarter [Music] quarter and the kick is good he needed a little help there from the cross bar but the carum goes his way Charles even his long field goals become more and more and this is still very rarified air only just over 20 field goals have been kicked from 60 yd or further and you can add his name to the list now and as calm as he tried to present himself there's no doubt there were some nerves as he lined up to attempt that kick but once the ball was snapped he just swept the leg and boom over the crossbar out is the kickoff unit as they run up and send this one away [Applause] and the tackle going to be made right there at the 25 yd line the offense for Los Angeles returns to the field there two scores on the plus side still time here in this fourth quarter but maybe you start thinking about playing keep away yeah I think here's the situation you're not thinking touchdowns anymore you're just thinking first downs to keep up with your theme there playing keep away first downs they can't touch the [Applause] ball now a first down throw Warner throw right side going to be caught by higgy and that's good for a pickup of 10 yards and they'll be left with a second and about a foot Well normally you might say start running the football you've got the lead here in the fourth quarter but the way that they've passed it with such success I don't know maybe keep throwing it yeah I think brought up something that goes against conventional wisdom right in this stage of the game you would think you would switch to a running attack but you're exactly right they throwing it so well throughout the game and trusting this quarterback I think he continue to do so and they'll get it up just short of the 45 at the 44 second catch for him today and it'll wind up a first down partner I like that they're staying aggressive on offense because to me this drive is what is known as a putaway drive you score here that might put this one to bed I like the fact that they're playing with confidence and not playing with fear now he's going to swing this one out to his running back they'll wind up getting just a yard out of it and that will bring up second down [Applause] here's a give up the middle and he'll be brought down at the 50 after a gain of about five it's not a huge Breakaway run but if your starting running back finishes the game with averages of five or six yards per touch you'll take that every single time this offense so far on third down they've converted five times in their many chances thus far this will be third and five from the Midfield strike they'll look to throw he finds his man complete it's Hol and they'll get him to the ground he has another first down at the Colts 32 yd line a third down gain of 19 but when you're up by two scores in the fourth quarter and you're going to throw the football expect to see a lot of man coverage because usually what comes along with man coverage is pressure so if you're a play caller and you want to keep throwing the football that's fine just make sure your offensive line understands they're going to get additional guys running at the quarterback on first first down they'll go to the ground attack and a good physical run that time he's going to wind up gaining five on that one starting to become a tough spot for this defense you're down fourth quarter looking a little fatigued maybe on that side of the ball partner we've seen this before haven't we because every coach we've ever talked to says body language is important and now you're seeing guys with their hands on their hips they're bent over hands on their knees and the offensive guys they're just saying let's just keep running it at them we've got them now five yards on first down coming now just a one ydd pickup there on second that was an okay hook up there with his tight end but unfortunately they didn't get the kind of yards they had hoped for that's going to bring up third down this will be the eighth play of the drive here third and [Applause] four here's [Applause] Warner able to find the open man that's complete and he gets it all the way down inside the 10 and Mark him at the five he's been the go-to guy they needed a big play there on third down went his way it worked out doesn't matter whether they've scouted it or that they think he's going to get the ball he has a knack for finding his way open and completing the connection a good chance now to put this game on ice this is first and [Applause] goal Warner this will be CAU C and about the five only a yard on the completion it's second and goal it's vitally important to wrap him up immediately because if you let that big guy get ahead of steam up boy then you got real trouble trying to get him down but they're able to hold him to a short gain on first down second and goal from inside the [Applause] five to throw [Applause] Warner and he's going to be dropped back of the 15 Y Line this will cost him 11 yds there on the second and goal sack yeah some real defensive resistance there saying not so fast to a good drive they had marched to the end zone the last time out a lot of tired bodies on that field but this is a big play Third and goal one back in the back field he'll get the carry and he'll get into the end zone touchdown Rams a great effort there with his second touchdown of the afternoon and the Rams have pretty well put it away here in the fourth quarter I've heard you use the term puta away drive and that right there seemed like the definition of a putaway drive yeah it certainly just pops right up out of the book doesn't it because up two scores already just wanted to possess the football keep converting and picking up first downs and if the drive ends in three points that's terrific if it ends in a touchdown fantastic zerline good with a Pat and the lead now to three touchdowns at 21 [Music] [Applause] now after the touchdown it's zerline he'll kick it away oh a good return up past the 30 and able to return this one all the way out to the other side of the field across the 50 here comes the Indianapolis offense now as they get set to take over and they had a long drive last time but they had to settle for a field goal and I'm sure that's how it felt to them settling they probably should have gotten in the end zone yeah not out now Joy right because that's what you get when you put the ball in the end zone but there are benefits to that type of a long drive your defense gets a chance to take a break adjust a little bit maybe get themselves ready to get back out on the field field and play a little bit better so they'll take the benefit even though they wanted the six points and maybe wore down the other defense we'll see and now a throw on first down there but it's incomplete at this point in the game they've got to continue to try anything they can they're still working at it even though this one feels like a lost cause an incomplete pass on first down that leads to a second and 10 now Manning and this time he's got the hook up it's complete and he is tackled inside the 40 not quite to the 35 a 14 yd gain for Indianapolis and also move the sticks those are the types of plays they probably wish they had made more of in the first three quarters and this deficit going to be tough to overcome here in the fourth but a nice first down and a pickup on that throw yeah and this is where as coaches you're looking for effort and execution even though the scoreboard is going against you you want to find out who's going to fight who's going to scrap who's going to keep their heads up and continue to play and brought down but not before they're inside the [Applause] 25 so give him the yardage on the completion and also tack on 15 more if you get that hand up there you've got to let go immediately or just not close the hand at all he didn't gave it a tug and that was easy for the officials to see Manning now on first down got his man complete over the middle that's Richardson that'll go for a gain of seven and it's second [Applause] down they come out with one back and three tight ends and they'll run on the inside handoff and the hole closes quickly here he can fight only to about the four give him a yard on the run there and that's going to set up a third down and two so a decent deficit at this stage in the second half four down territory no doubt about it there's not a chance that he hasn't looked ahead and said okay if we gain yardage on this play this is what we'll do going for it if we lose yardage this is the play call that I'll have ready Manning going to try and throw on third down and that is caught touch down Indianapolis from four yds out and the Colts have got it back to a two-score game here in the fourth so a little bit of a let down there defensively I mean look you're still two scores to the good CD but things may be a little more uncomfortable than they had hoped yeah if You' kept him out of the end zone there this game's over you've locked the door on them instead it's still open a little bit and they've got a puncher's chance [Applause] set now to kick this one away and off it [Applause] goes and he's up past the 20 to the 22 yd line La set to take over again on offense if they can score here they have a chance to make this a threep possession game and all but put things to bed [Applause] on First and 10 Warner got a man and he hits him in stride and they'll get him down after a pick up of Eight Second and [Music] [Applause] two now a second and two [Applause] from the gun they'll try to run it and he'll earn a couple of tough yards past the 30 to the 31 pretty good job defensively thought he was going to get it but they knew where that marker was and they stopped him just short of it what it does is emphasize that strategic football and situational football is not just played on the offensive side is it defense understanding as you noted where the first down marker was and making sure they didn't get there they'll run on third down with Fulk and good running there as he'll take this all the way up to Midfield 98 yds rushing for him now as he's carried it 16 times well that's a carry they have to be satisfied with and throughout this game they've been satisfied with what he's given them whenever they've needed a big run a first down he's the guy they've turned to and it doesn't matter what the defense thinks they feel like they've got the confidence to keep handing it to him and keep picking up good yardage it'll be Warner on first down and that one drops down in complete good coverage there forc the ball free and it's second down I see the surprise in your face there partner that is a rare incompletion from him he's been on point this entire game he has percentage completion Wise Way up not that time now a second and 10 from the gun he'll hand this off and he's swallowed up right near the line of scrimmage officially nothing on that one no gains so they're left with still 10 to go on third down and in this situation with the lead fourth quarter they're liking keeping the ball on the ground I'm sure that's just smart football but you know the defense has to know it as well they've got to stop them here so now we're going to see that loading the Box in a big way six seven eight nine whatever it's going to take puts a little bit more pressure on your big offensive line and they'll get him to the ground he has another first down at the Colts 33 a sizable 16 yd chunk there the drive continues when you have someone throwing it that well that confidently you don't have to call the game in fear at all do you you just go ahead and play yep confidence with a lead to throw it here in the fourth and boom he's on the money yeah you don't have to tuck your head in and take and go like turtle at this point you just go ahead and play they'll try and run some clock here as they keep it on the ground credit him with a one ydd gain there to make it second and nine I know the game's not over but there's got to be a sense of satisfaction right now for the guy carrying the football a bunch today 99 yards and he has enough time to go over the entry Mark well you got to give it to him again right yeah there's no doubt about it you're not worried about losing yardage here you're not worried about any of that you just want to get him to the promised land for every Runner 100 yards or more in a game and only able to get two here stopped at the 30 they follow throw up the first down one ydd run with a minimal gain of two two minutes left to play in this football game here on EA Sports so it's Rams football here as we get you reset this is a big third down and you'd have to think we'd see a timeout right away if they can't stop him here a throw there but that's going to wind up incomplete so two third down conversions on this drive but not able to get a third and now they deal with fourth down well he certainly thought he out a window to push that ball downfield but as soon as he released the throw the corner was there to slam that window [Applause] shut Zer Lin's kick is up and through and that will extend their lead even further so with that you figure yeah this game's pretty much out of reach at this point yeah it's going to take a heck of a comeback to come from three scores down but don't change that channel don't go away Miracles can happen and you want to be here in case it does you're a company man aren't I [Applause] though after the M field goal zerline back out there now to send this one [Applause] away and he'll decide to not bring this one out as their Drive will begin at the 25 and now Indianapolis set to take the field well this game it has had no shortage of offense they've been able to put up a decent amount of points on this side Charles they just have not been able to keep Pace with the other offense they're going against here yeah that's a good way of pointing things out because now it's not a total loss because as you said they've scored some points so there's some plays they can build on moments where the game plan actually worked but overall though they were just out Personnel they were going up against a team that's playing at an elite level throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete now the trials and tribulations of being a quarterback in this league it's tough it's got to be wearing on him out there well he has been sacked a number of times he had an interception so I'm going to give him a sco of credit for hanging in there and trying to make something happen despite the amount of pressure he's been under this entire game to throw is Manning [Applause] [Music] well so far in this drive they've done some good work they forc incompletions on first and second down bring up third and 10 that brings up the big question do they bring pressure or do they play coverage on this down now they face a third and 10 after back-to- back incompletions now a play fake Manning he's got his Target that's complete and they work this well up field across the 45 give him 22 there on the third down conversion well I can put my defensive cap on right now and I know they're saying don't give up any big plays now they've controlled this game throughout and all they want to do is see it through to the end I think they let their guard down a little bit with that last completion sometimes when you're trying not to give up bigger plays you don't react as fast as you should on other throws throwing there but this pass is going to wind up incomplete he has just not had his focus in this game it's not one drop it's not two that's three for this contest yeah uncharacteristic for any NFL receiver and he's no exception Manning again here on second and 10 and that one twoo wide and incomplete [Applause] they had the incomplete pass on second down now they need a big play here third and 10 now Manning again and the Rams got him they bring him down the Colts going to use the first of their timeouts as the clock will stop with a minute six left to go in the game and they're indeed going to go for it here on fourth down so trailing here in the last quarter let's see how this plays out now Manning got to have this one and able to catch it but he's out of bounds and the throw took him beyond the sideline and that's going to be a turnover on so they tried to go for it for Pride but it really wouldn't matter this one it was already determined no doubt about it this one was over a while ago they show run with three tight ends here on first down they'll try and run some clock here as they keep it on the ground and he's got it to about the 40 not a big run on the first play of the drive but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad play sometimes you're just trying to settle in get your guys a little bit of contact and get things moving this is second and eight and they'll give him another shot here on the ground and maybe a measure of Revenge there he's had his way in this one but this time they get him behind the line the second down play results in a loss of two yards so it's the Rams here that take home the W and it was due in large part Charles to the play of their quarterback yeah he was in complete control of this offense he had three touchdown passes on the afternoon and to be honest he really
