welcome to Upstate New York Syracuse University and Under the Dome today we have a terrific clash in store today a clash between a couple of ACC rivals in a game that could have big time implications for the rest of the season as we'll see the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets taking on the Syracuse Orange for EA Sports college football I'm Rees joined here in the booth as always by David poock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one up Syracuse will kick off and we'll be underway here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good hle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the yellow jackets offense will get the first possession of the game and this wide receiver he's the Lynch pin to the offense they want to make sure they find a multitude of ways to get him the football and it's a risk reward scenario on defense when you're trying to cover this guy re because you play Man coverage you're risking running by you and catching deep balls you play too much Zone and then he can hurt you after the catch a lot of different ways this guy is very dangerous and it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot after the productive first down play it's second and six they'll give it to the back tackled but he has a first down and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mark they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first down they'll go to the ground you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play the counter play is a great play to mix in with your base Concepts obviously everybody flies to the football flies to the football bang now you pull a guy you go backside give him a little counter keep the defense off balance half way there on first down it's second and [Applause] five on the ground it's haes and they'll spot it at the 45 that's good enough for a first down well the defense is on their heels right now they're going to have to find a way to stop this guy when he's got aead of steam boy he is hard to bring down and the yellow jackets have their offense in high gear [Applause] and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage and what a job by the defense seeing the quarterback throw the football break on the football no space allowed as soon as he catches it Defender meet ball carrier and gets him on the ground they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 from the gun they'll give it on the inside you know defensively you live by the Blitz and you die by the blitz that time they dialed it up into the Run play and the linebacker able to make a nice tackle they'll come to the line at the 42 facing a third and long looking to throw it's king unleashes one deep oh right through his hands they came out of attacking wanted to impose their will and they missed a big chance on that one man that's a big missed opportunity you know listen once you get past the 50 offensive coordinators that's when they want to dial up shot plays that's you got a little bit of space on the field still left everything's not condensed tight like when you get in the Red Zone you take those shots but man your receiver has to make that play for you excellent coverage that time didn't give him any room to set up a big return so Syracuse's offense will try to get something started with their first possession one thing to watch can this guy get in the quarterback's head and make him take a peek at the rush David thanks Skippy that's what you want to do you want to make this guy a little bit more human and not as much of a game breaker at the quarterback spot get some pressure on and hit him a few times he's one of the best quarterbacks in the country but he can't hurt you if he's laying on his back and this defensive end can put him there often Zone coverage means everybody's looking at the quarterback so now when I'm a wide receiver I got to make sure I know I fit in the hole between these zones I know where they're dropping to and I know where I need to get to great job by the wide receiver finding that hole and the quarterback throwing a strike looking for space it's Allen he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end Zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man what a spectacular play by that defensive end to come up with the tackle there and you see those guys get off the football so fast most of these guys are 250 to 275 pounds but they get off the ball fast low and the offensive lineman they have no chance to stop those guys as quick and as fast as they are all kinds of room to throw that one in there and an explosive play has him on the move and he gets it all the way to the 48 yd line wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third down so much in practice hand off from the gun able to scr three yard out of that one somehow it's second and seven now that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the road Syracuse right back at it from the gun running back gets to give he breaks a tackle he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and not much Running Room he had to break a tackle and still break another tackle to try to get back to the line of scrimmage not good blocking on the play but that's what coaches always emphasize to never assume a teammate's going to make make the tackle you run to the ball and they did it there 100% especially guys that are so big and strong and Elusive nowadays they're going to break tackles keep swarming keep hitting them next guy don't don't assume the tackle is going to be made on third down going up top and he'll make the catch at the 15 and he slipped through the crowd and he'll house it touchdown Syracuse how about that quarterback taking the shot downfield and delivering to the wide open receiver I love this quarterback Reese because he's aggressive he wants to take shots he's looking for every opportunity to show off that Cannon and that arm Talent he showed it to all of us right there lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the pat makes it seven nothing so a drive there of 82 yards and the Capper coming on that 48 yd touchdown Dart kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the George Tech offense rolls back onto the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack them got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 looking to pass it's King and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down that's a ball that this offense should be able to complete they had the coverage they wanted receiver ran on the route just an inaccurate throw by the quarterback they punted on their first drive of the game and now they have to convert on third down to avoid doing it again right down the middle and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play the yellow jackets send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he gets a block and the returner could find no daylight he goes down the orange have the ball back and ready to go to to work how about that last drive just carved him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback you gave him the ball and he delivered the goods great job taking apart the defense Jesse on that last drive he really did David I mean that was a master class in just reading coverage and being accurate not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 the inside hand off he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions and the running game has gone in the wrong direction the offense tries to turn it around and go forward on third down will take a deep shot here and it's incomplete on third down o that's one of those where you're breathing a big sigh of relief that ball could have been intercepted and worse could have been intercepted and housed but offense caught a little bit of a break nice play by the defense but the offense glad to punt in this situation if they want to punt Syracuse will send out the punt team three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out no return coming he'll call for the fair Catch Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here pmer yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive didn't get much on first down it's second and nine [Applause] looking downfield it's King it's complete on the right side they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker not difficult not complicated but early in the game getting that Rhythm find that timing through wide receiver so you're set up for Success then you go attack deep later on passing game very effective on second down what about here on third from the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's fourth down and I like the aggressiveness on Third and short trying to throw the football take advantage of a look that they got they weren't successful and now it's Fourth and short territory who knows what they're going to do and the yellow jackets will bring the punt team onto the field this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fair catch just inside the 40 looking for a gap it's Allen not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and limiting his carries after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven from the gun the ground game and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup and here we go if you're an offense you got to get that ground gain going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let him make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly and know coming into this game this offense knew they were going to have to someway somehow at least establish the semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that going and these quarterbacks have to really trust their wide receivers that they're going to be disciplined and run to the right route when they're throwing that ball to the outside like that because those Corners are sitting there on the inside and the worst thing that could happen is to miss inside and that cornerback get going the other direction running back sech ing for a hole open space of the 25 and he'll pick up the first down after a tough run there I'll tell you this defense in their front seven they're going to have to play with great eye discipline because they know they are going to see this type of misdirection in the Run game and they got gash there Syracuse right back at it they're going to ride this running back defense there to stop him after he picked up a yard balls at the 17 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine [Applause] going to run it it's Allen they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know you're in the Red Zone you bring out a bunch of tight ends on the field so the defense they were expecting run on that one they were physical and they were able to force the negative play they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here looking for a man it's MCN Ted in the end zone touchdown CES a methodical drive that they finish off by tossing it to the tight end and the tight end I tell you what this is a position that's evolved so much right and you see him move all over the field it's kind of like Where is Waldo you got to find this big fella especially down in the Red Zone area this is the guy they're going to Target and make the big play get the touchdown getting set for the point after and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 that touchdown Drive covered 61 yards and the finisher an 18yd touchdown throw the kickoff team out there and ready to go [Applause] he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the rambling wreck offense rolls back onto the field leaves it with the running back they keep feeding him in this running game and the defense is having none of it and it's been that way all day if you're going to stop the run game you better be physical up front on the defensive line they've got some MERS they've got some dud dudes with bad intentions nice play there they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 on the ground it's haes out across the 20 to the 21 yd line a three yd gain I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off [Applause] dropping back it's King he's got his man he's going to have enough to pick up the first down as they stop him at the 33 yd line quarterbacks are just like anybody else they get in rhythms and to get in a rhythm early on third down and have a little success here and get the sticks moving great chance to continue to get this offense moving down the field to get some more points the yellow jackets will snap it on First and 10 fires to the wide out complete downfield he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down when you're going to run a comeback route you've got to sett like you're going deep and that was a great job there by the receiver really making that corner think he was running deep down the field so we got the corner to turn his hips turn his shoulders and then the receiver was able to just pivot around to make it an easy passing catch off the play fake on first down wants to throw trying to make magic with his feet on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pick up there Hey listen it's important at that position to be able to be good off schedule everything's easy when it's on time you can get the ball at but when things break down and they get off schedule you've got to have a guy back there that can make the right decisions he did exactly that they'll line up for a second down play out of the gun the running back has it and they try the middle with this defense and that is not happening well you love to see that from the defense right it's like Ben don't break they've given up a bunch of plays on this drive but now that they're getting down close to field goal range you're seeing them start to stiffen up there yeah and plays don't matter anymore yards don't matter all that matter with these defenses nowadays is points and limiting them they'll try to move the chains on the ground just what they' hoped for on third down as they've got a first at the 32 well the offense is in really nice Rhythm right now it seems like no matter what they're dialing up they're getting positive yards and it just feels so good as a play caller when you know on first down you can get yards like that turning around and handing it off yeah and on the other side you're scratching your head going what the heck can I do here you got to find something the defense he got to find a way to create some momentum whatever they're doing right now it's not working so you got to keep going through that play sheet and maybe find something a little bit different that can give this offense something to think about I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game now on second down from the shotgun the hand off to the back works his way ahead for about three yds stopped at the 23 both teams made no secret they wanted to Target their big play receivers and they've done just that in the first this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second period and they try to find a way to answer they'll try to pick it up on the ground he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short not able to that first down David but if I'm them I'm going again right here on Fourth Man I think you knew that on Third and two short yard situation you got it close to Fourth inches now we're going to get this first down try to get it on the ground got some room enter to the goal line and he'll step into the end zone touchdown George attack man we know football gets harder when you start to get in the red zone and the field trinks needs that break the long touchdown run nice job by the back seeing the hole exploding through getting a long touchdown run they'll try to attack one more on their score and after the extra point they've cut the lead in have it down 147 so an 82 yd drive there and it was capped with an explosive 22 yd run almost ready to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown he'll bring it out it's Gil and the returner will be brought down the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this off to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points David but they can't go too fast cuz their defense right now is tied and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about Syracuse right back at it he leaves it with his back oh he's got a chance they'll get get it to the 48 no need to measure it's a first down one of the things I love about these misdirection type plays is that you can pull offensive linemen and get extra bodies at the point of attack so you're setting yourself up with good angles if you execute it properly David and you saw it right there and saying the word angles means a lot because that's exactly what you do now I can block down and I can leave somebody unblocked pull around kick him out use misdirection in the back field really just get your eyes as a defense on something else and then go the other direction nice misdirection play call by this offense and runs like that are like body blows in a boxing match four five six yd gains early turn into 20 30 40 yard gains later they really wear down defenses and they test their physicality solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six using his legs it's Allen he locked up and held on to bring him down great job contained by this defense and in order to do that the end man on the line of scrimmage defensively has got to be able to set the point and force the football back into traffic and that's exactly what happened it's third down and they have to get it to the 42 to move the sticks back to pass it's mcord working the middle it's complete he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch man this defense they have got to get better in coverage if they want to get off the field anytime soon you keep defending like that this offense might hang 50 on you by the end of the game Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down power football with the Run he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create because why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down got some work to do after that last play second and 13 from the gun running back on the move they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks I know that wasn't a big huge play and everybody's not excited the fans aren't going crazy but those are the plays that in the fourth quarter matter a lot again making you tackle my back making you feel the physicality of the football game throughout so you get tired and get worn down in the fourth quarter on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air quickly complete they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down on third down offenses have their plays what they like in third and short what they like third and medium third and long great job by the offense having success now it's Inc coming upon the defense to learn their plays and try to shut it down throughout the game they're in the red zone and they'll pass it he's got it on the Move he's all the way down to the 2yd line just spectacular execution there this offense is clicking and clearly everything is working the offensive coordinator's calling good plays the quarterback in his unit is executing and this defense right now they have no answers Syracuse comes to the line on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five and you got to get locked in in the Red Zone a lot of defensive coordinators they tell you we give up yards but we got to understand what we're trying to get accomplished great job down here near the goal line this defense Bo their neck up and getting a big Stop Syracuse right back at it they'll keep it on the ground right up the gut looking for six he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is really and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this little third to midrange you got two downs what are you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a bind wants to fire It In The End Zone on Third and goal and he's got it touchdown orange that touchdown puts him up by at least two scores too early to it's over probably but boy it's starting to feel that way it might not be over but you're in trouble and you better find some answers really really quickly this team is putting everything together and right now you got nothing going come on give me something they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead they put it in the end zone but they 12 Play scoring drive and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] Drive he'll bring it back from inside as five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Georgia Tech offense rolls back onto the field off the play fake on first down to throw now will get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football quick release by the QB he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and there was no question in that scenario that's where the quarterback was going he knew he had his receiver in a matchup that he liked running a route where he would find himself opening nice job between those two just inside the 40 yd line it's first and 10 from the 39 Ed the play fake now to throw looking down the middle oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down just got to finish the play for the wide receiver you got to look that one in and complete it it's a bad drop second down after that incompletion here's a quick throw out to the left put it right on him sweet play good pickup and they'll move the change with the first down now I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find sof spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbox give to the running back headed to the end zone and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown yellow jackets and what a nice touchdown run and this is a team effort right it's got to start with the offensive line to give you that crease and then the wide receivers start to kick in and the running back he handles the rest nice touchdown run on to attempt the [Applause] try and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer a very efficient five playay scoring drive and what a way to finish it off with a 21 yd touchdown run kickoff team lining up to send this one [Applause] away on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work to the air on first down makes the grab outside it's Peña and that defense doesn't allow a cut back and they get him out of bounds after a short gain I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yard of situations defense there to stop him after a gain of one to the 22 Yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the tempo run the football be consistent make that def defense physically meet the challenge linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback how bold will they be on third down after that last run grabbed in the middle it's Ross Simmons he'll make a play on third down he's got enough for the first as they mark it at the 32 it's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of downs looking to go up top on first down intercepted looking for more room the 10 and with the interception he'll take it all the way back touchdown George attack this time it's the defense finding ways to put points on the board there is nothing better than being a Defender seeing that ball In The End Zone your eyes get big as saucers go jump on that puppy secure it get you a touchdown he'll try to tack on one more smashes it through for the p the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty all tied up and just about set to kick it [Applause] away no chance return that one a booming kickoff out of the back of the end zone it's a touch back line gets set first down they'll leave it with him and he could not get loose on the Run great team defense on that run play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D linemen staying in their gaps linebackers and DBS filling you just can't do it better Syracuse right back at it pulls and fires it complete to the right he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and that's why QBs love their tight ends so much right especially when they're athletic because they make short throws turn into long Gams because of his ability after the catch it's so unique and special he is dominant in this offense they'll snap it from the 39 first and 10 from the shotgun the inside G you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down after the productive first down play it's second and six to the air it's MC pulls it in tackle is made after the first down well this defense is being challenged and this secondary in particular and I know ad DB made the tackle there but we're only in the second quarter and already this quarterback has over 200 yards passing Syracuse has a really nice drive going comes out throwing on first down how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy's had thrown the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which has really helped keep this offense on schedule after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down grabbed behind the line it's Ross Simmons the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage I mean getting suffocated right away how about the DB just seeing that initially pulling the trigger getting to him get him on the ground get the tackle for a loss a third and long coming up here the aerial assault continues got it in the middle it's Peña they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver uh at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football game using his legs it's tent brought down after picking up three down to the 22 all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point movement from the linebackers trying to mess with the offensive Line's assignments he'll try to pop the draw they get him down but not before he picks up five down to the 17 yd line effective draw plays in the running game really begin with the quarterback the quarterback's got to be a great sail you got to really make the defense think it's pass you keep your eyes focused down field till the last possible second turnaround and hand it off and by that point the defensive ends have rushed way up field and there's less bodies for the running backs to have to maneuver around before finally moving forward on Third and short they'll ride the running back here he's got enough to give Syracuse the first down and I just love when guys know exactly where the sticks are you could tell ran with purpose finished through the sticks and got just enough for the first down and a nice job up front too right good communication everybody knew where they had to go hat on a hat work the double teams and get some push they'll leave it with the lone back a knock him down after a pick up of four ball is at the N yards line Second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone to the air it's mcord makes the catch takes it to the house touchdown Syracuse and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum on your side and they do it they finish it with the passing game I tell you what keep that passing game up you can keep this lead keep the momentum and keep putting up numbers lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point makes it a 28-21 score they put it in the end zone with a 12 Play scoring drive and they C things off with nyd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there getting [Applause] set on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense he's got an open man hit the afterburners kid and they'll do more than move the chain they'll move that thing more than 30 yard down the field before he's finally stopped love the individual effort by the wide receiver after the catch making people Miss showing you the speed now he set up his offense down in the red zone after that huge play Let's see if they can punctuate it it's first and 10 from the 20 they're looking to pass from the Red Zone receiver looks it in it's complete that's about as close as you can get to that marker and it will be second and just a few breaths away from the first down and offensively I love running these drag routes I mean these are the routes that whether it's Zone whether it's man they're so success it's just about seeing what the defense is doing and getting it to him in open space nice job the wide receiver has some space after the catch able to go make extra yards nice pitching catch goes out of bounds just short of the goal line and they'll be set up in in great position here just like that a hattick of completions and they're on the doorstep three plays three beautifully executed plays this offense is in a really good Rhythm this defense better change something quickly has been way too easy looking to throw it's king and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown Yellow Jackets yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you trailed a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out in the second half ready to try the point after splits those uprights right in half quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss they got the late tou down on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field they'll throw it on first down finds the tight end and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight and they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do clock still running almost certainly the last play of the half quarterback wants to throw on second down pass is incomplete and half comes to a close on that play that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update fellas a typical First Rate broadcast so far today from Syracuse the passing game for both sides has been outstanding on point unrelenting they've excelled in the short game the intermediate game and especially on the Deep ball all in all a thrilling display of offensive Firepower and these defenses have a lot to discuss here at halftime and with that let's send it back to the guys inside the dome in lovely Central New York and the yellow jackets will boot it away to start the second half fielded In The End Zone it's Gil I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 they're going to throw it to start the drive catch in the middle it's Peña they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down and the slant is really a difficult route to defend against if you're a DB in man coverage especially when you have no help on the inside so if you're the offense and you continue seeing that coverage you might as well keep attacking it just like that from the gun the G looking for room stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 they're strong and they're SC defensive tackles they're strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy grabbing you around the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quickly draged down to the turf but not before getting the first down that is how it's done on third down and short and no doubt about it an easy hole to get through and clearly get the first down if you really want to simplify football the low man wins that time the offense got the better of the D easily picked that up Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down he's looking to throw it got it in the middle it's Ross Simmons there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down nice job by the receiver there running the drag route against Zone coverage finding the soft spot making it easy on his quarterback to get the completion he turns it up field and he moves the sticks Syracuse right back at it they'll run it from the gun pretty good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 hey five to six yards a I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock halfway there on first down it's second and five wide out in motion off the play fake with the catch it's gadston finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down man this offense is so d dangerous re they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels from the 33 it's first and 10 he wants to throw and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again to the air it's MC tosses it incomplete this drive was clicking along but after a couple of misfires threatening to stall out on Third and 10 they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal unit and this will be a bit of a challenge a 46 yd attempt from the right hatch smashes it between the uprights and with that they've taken the lead so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the rambling wreck offense rolls back onto the field makes his connection and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up I'll tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they looked like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by theer nice job securing the catch this offense is starting to believe and as they generate yards and points they're bringing momentum with them dropping back it's king oh he had him right down the middle and it just squirted right through his fingers and they miss an opportunity for a nice play on first down after the incompletion it's second down [Applause] from the gun give on the inside a confident tough efficient run gets it up to the 44 keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here to the ground to try to pick up the first the yellow jackets are stopped but not before getting it past the sticks man I do not want a guy that will dance I want Square shoulders to the line of scrimmage take the snap secure the football play physical and fall forward nice job by that running back getting the first down and the yellow jackets are on the [Applause] Move he's going to pass quick right complete and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up it's so nice as a quarterback when you've got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good feel to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback got the completion on the last play still some work to do on second [Applause] down going to run it it's Hayes really nice stop there from this senior leader now on third down after that run they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short the yellow jackets will try to pin them back with the punt fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt [Applause] so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keep this drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty that pass is [Applause] incomplete here comes the offense on second down back to throw it's King this time on target they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down and I love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you could tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry nice job by the quarterback from the Red Zone looking for a space finds his man it's Singleton makes the catch and he's brought down well they're able to complete the hitch throw against man coverage and hey quarterback's got to be able to get it to him quickly because he knows that Defender is going to be driving on the ball so really nice job not hesitating getting it to him and then he gets what he can get after the catch this defense just can't get off the field the offense Unstoppable out of the shotgun they go to the ground fights his way ahead they get him down after a pick up of three they'll mark it at the [Applause] 12 they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and [Applause] goal they turn to the passing game on Third and short touchdown George attack and with that one they jump on top here in the second half and it's so underrated the the relationship between a QB and a wide receiver the timing the ability to know where he's going to be and be accurate with the football that's what leads to nice touchdowns Jesse well the chemistry between these two guys has to be great when you're throwing into the end zone because coverage is going to be tight the throw might not be perfect but this is something these two guys have been repping and practice over and over and over and it's paying dividends now on game day they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is good a fourpoint game at 3531 they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and the score comes on a 12yd touchdown pass they're just about ready to kick it [Applause] away he'll bring it out it's Allen really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work to the ground with the back and the defense finally makes the stop after the sweet run and good gain I think Jesse and reys could call offensive plays for any team if they're having this much success on the ground it starts with the ground game right like you can chew these kind of plays then I can play action later on and take shots but right now defense has first got to stop the run game that's been chewing him up they'll ride the hot hand he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on-one and force a tackle for a loss last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 leaves it with the back and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go they're going to keep this drive going they'll have to make a play on Third and long from the 26 dropping back it's mcord trying to get to him and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way slips through the line and he make the Stop and that is exactly what you want out of your punt cover unit the Georgia Tech offense rolls back onto the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one Dave we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going six- yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and [Applause] four he's looking to throw flushed out of the pocket he gets the job done picking up the first down then getting down you know QBs want to make those big plays they want to they want to put up the big stats but when nothing's there sometimes you just tuck the ball get a minimal gain I like the slide by the way too get down and don't don't take a big hit the offense getting set for a first down from the 45 used the play fake now to throw finds his tight end I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle line getting set on second down movement here from the tight end trying play action they're trying to get to him just missed his man gave him just a little too much couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four back to throw it's King using the back as a receiver on the screen they make the stop but not before the screen has hit him for a first down and much more really good execution by this offense and the yellow jackets are flying down the field they're going to throw it again snagged in the middle it's Lane they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab yeah and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot as he can go either direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties using the quick game that throw and catch gets them down to the six and the defense is running out of answers my coach said you'll never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain they keep pushing forward now back to work on second and goal from the six the run up the middle trying to steamroll his way in he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on it heels and down here near the goal line you got to be physical and this guy's proven it today Palmer they've given it to him he's put it in the end zone twice already I'm going to keep featuring him so you know the defense is going to be keying him too right because he's hurting him a little bit in this game already they're going to be finding a way to try to get some throw to the end zone picked off not only a great play but tremendous disciplin by this sophomore to make the pick Zone equals eyes when I say at DBS linebackers all covering the middle of the field so many guys over the middle of the field trying to take away the easy stuff when reading the quarterback's eyes the whole time whenever he breaks to throw that football and that hand separates from the ball I'm breaking on it you could tell they had a beat on it nice Cut nice instincts give you that in at the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field throws to the wide out finds a man on the left and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there looking down field it's CT fires to the right got his man just carving up this defense and getting it down to the 24 yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go with the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giving them and creating the explosive play Syracuse right back at it off play action on first down excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away you know it's so important for Corners to be able to transition right you got to have real loose hips you got to be able to change direction on a dime and in zone coverage when you see the ball thrown you can break on it and force incompletions like that let's see what they've got on second down the give to the back they'll give him a couple that leaves him with third and eight they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it just threw that one away to avoid the disaster nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion and on fourth down here comes the field goal unit and he's already one for one so this time he'll try to put one through from 39 yds out it's good he could have hit a string right in the middle of the uprights there after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to [Applause] go he start to return inside his spot he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense and knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven the give to the left side he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and sometimes for the defense it just takes one play right to create some momentum obviously this guy's been eating him up he's got over a 100 yards rushing on the day but finally David they get something positive here in the Run game defensively but you kind of know that coming in he's going to get his such a great back and he's had a great day need to put more plays together like that right there feeling some heat makes the grab it's Lane really ni nice job to get it past the sticks pick up the first down at the 30 these two quarterbacks have produced as we check out their numbers after three one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory the yellow jackets have it with a first and 10 looking to move it through the air fires to the big fella didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few got to like that big reliable security blanket and that's what tight ends are a lot of the times they're just usually big huge guys that if I throw it anywhere near him he's going to pluck it catch it and give me some positive yards offense gets set for second down [Applause] they'll Run play action he lets it fly makes a catch on the left and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it the explosive picks up more than 30 what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in and the yellow jackets are moving quickly down the field coming out on first down with the play fake gets it out fast he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down you know what's interesting at this point of the game with the lead in the fourth quarter the defense is expecting them to run the ball and because they're putting so many guys close to the line of scrimmage they're taking advantage throwing it two straight completions now back to back it's first and 10 from the 13 running the Red Zone it's Haynes they'll pick up four second and Six coming going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone they move the tight end all over they'll try the run and he runs it in for the score touchdown Yellow Jackets what a day his third rushing touchdown and when you got your college fantasy football team going this guy is racking those points up for you chaing ching ching lining up to attack one more onto that lead and he splits the upright and pushes the lead to eight here in the fourth so it's an 80 yd drive and what a way to finish it with a nyd touchdown run they're lining up to boot it away he'll bring it back from inside to SP didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work looking for space it's Allen he believe in that running game got six before he stopped at the 23 you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense linebackers trying to create some confusion Syracuse right back at it keep it on the ground he's stuffed after picking up one to the 23 line is set on third down it's a draw and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys here comes the offense on first down Ed the play fake now to throw looking to the big tight end got him down field and the big gain and they've got it on the 46 That's What's So Scary About This offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there too much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 one back in the Back Field and they'll give it to him and they are finding some space in this defense he's got it down to the 25 well the defense didn't Blitz they didn't have everybody in gaps and the offensive line took advantage at the point of attack getting some push opening up a hole and the offense ripping off a nice run there this offense is like running a Perfection drill in practice against air chunk play after chunk play and here they come again they're going to go right back to him on first down when the offense can run the football and you can feature a guy like this that will get more yards in this block that you can really depend on hangs on to the football like it makes offense super easy especially down the stretch when you want to eat that clock and you want to possess the football just nice to have that kind of guy halfway there on first down it's second and five from the gun the running back looking room and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play well they're trying to run the football there just nowhere to go they got dominated up front at the point of attack just outside the red zone at the 21 but it's third and [Applause] long to throw it's Kane unloads to the wide out got it can quite cross the the playe to get the six but they'll have the first down love the play call offensively because you've got the lead the defense expects you to run the ball you just did it the previous play so there you dial up play action set up an easy throw and you keep the clock ticking so this offense with an opportunity to put this game in a hammer lock if they can score and bleed the clock they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal One Step W two step squeez this junior knows how to get him on the ground well he's had the hot hand three TDS in the game already I like just force speeding this guy the rock some more here pul if it ain't broke don't fix it they've been the more physical team he does a really good job finding the end zone running the football that's why they featured him today looking to throw on second down b a little time lets it go he makes a catch in the end zone touchdown George attack offense gets the job done again you want to build that cushion as we get deeper into the second half man it makes it easy doesn't it you start getting up by a couple possessions making the offense very predictable on the other side great job by the offense extending their lead he'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point splits the upright and the lead balloons to 15 so it's a 73 yd touchdown drive and they closed it going up top for the final few inches in the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels and a great job by the offensive line you're going to run the ball right at the middle you better control the line of scrimmage you can see the center the guard the tackles doing a good job getting on their guys just enough where this running back can get into space and make the big game off the play fake on first down and they got him for the sack often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass Pro a bit longer against this athletic front seven on defense it's going to be tough they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 scanning the field it's MC short throw to the sideline is complete and he's out of bounds he'll be short of the first down using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today on Third and long try to convert through the air it's in complete and he's lucky to get that one back almost intercepted and now such a tough situation late in this game you're trailing but now it's Fourth and long like it's one thing if it's Fourth and short this makes it even more difficult you got to have something died up you feel really great about Syracuse will be forced to punt he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight he's got great speed he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yardage he could on the punt return the rambling wreck offense r rolls back onto the field and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play play callers love it offensively when you can run the football when the other team knows you're going to do it that is called imposing your will and here in the fourth quarter with the lead very first play of the drive you break off a nice run he might just call the exact same play right again here they'll run it from the gun that play just never Happ had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five it's going to be tough sledding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game but the defense knows the run's coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did be interesting to see what the offense does on this next one caught over the middle it's haes and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker that's why as a defense you want to set up third and long situations you just want to be able to keep the football in front of you it's okay for that quarterback to hit the running back on that pass now you have all those bodies flying with the football and they're able to make a tackle the yellow jackets will punt it away on fourth down fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt not able to pop the big return but they've got the ball back and ready to go with a fresh possession trying to find his man on first down pressure coming hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver and the defense at this point understands that the offense is going to have to try to throw the football all right they already got a lead so they're now pinning their ears back and getting after this guy trying to get him to the ground this offense has a second down [Applause] play back to throw it's mcord gets it out quickly he's there to make the stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play and a really nice job by the defense winning second down I think the quarterback thought he could dump this off maybe get some positive yards set up a good third down the defense did a great job responding and getting that running back on the ground on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm wide open downfield he stopped just short of the goal line at the one an explosive play has him set up they absolutely had to have that third down to keep any glimmer of hope alive and defensively that's exactly what I want make you get to third down the clock is your enemy multiple possession lead that is right where I want this offense the huge explosive play put him right on the doorstep and now they've got a punch it in quick pass on the Fly motion touchdown CU and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board like a Thanksgiving turkey they're just being carved no shot they have no idea how to get in this quarterback's head he's on fire everything he's doing he's working defensively we got to figure something out we got to try to do something a little bit different bring more pressure at this right shoot he's on so much fire you might as well just send everybody Blitz everybody live with the results because everything else ain't working anyways and with the lead sitting at nine they'll try to make it a onep possession game and the Pat will draw them one point closer quick work on that scoring drive just four plays it was capped off by a Oney touchdown pass the kickoff unit about to go to work from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the Georgia Tech offense rolls back onto the field they're bringing Heat hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance and finally the defense is able to get some pressure on this quarterback they had been trying all game long different ways to affect him weren't able to get there but on that play because of the pressure it affected his accuracy that's why the ball Falls incomplete second and 10 he'll throw again he almost had the pick and that could have given him a boost instead it'll be third down that play call is going to force a lot of people to scratch their heads because you've got the lead late why aren't you just running the ball when you throw you risk having inter ctions like that right there that should have been picked if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentto on Third and long trying to have a big completion here that's caught it's Haynes and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop he just didn't have a chance to get loose and make his way to that first down marker and I think fans get upset sometimes like run your route past the scks so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and forcing the fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work wants to throw on first down off the play fake catch in the middle it's paa and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the Stop Syracuse right back at it to the air it's mcord unloads it left incomplete and he threw that one up for grabon into tra thinking fortunate to get it back all right well the quarterback showing you he is Human After All finally throws an incompletion and not just that after a couple completions back to back to back almost throws a pick and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense off play action oh what a spacular layout and catch he threw that one with some serious Heat this SE your quarterback doesn't need a lot of space to get it in there Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down and they'll bring him down after a short pick up you know this offensive line they've just got to hold their blocks a little bit longer this offense likes to run their quarterback on designed plays and if you can just give him a little crease he can take it the distance but they couldn't get it done there second down coming up he's looking to throw incomplete man is he lucky to get that one back defense that close to an interception well the defense has had enough of this right the quarterbacks on a hot streak the ball's not hitting the ground and right there they decide we are jumping one of these routes we're going to try to get pick almost came away with one there after the second down misfire looking at a third and eight they'll go to the air got it set up on the outside well a nice Gainer on that running back screen and how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks to really help out the back find some space to go to work it's a onore game late and they've got to go for it on fourth down they'll try it on the ground they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks from that spot on the field you had to expect them to go for it and it worked out why the heck would you not go for it I mean I almost want to go for it on every part of the field but especially once you start to get this deep in territory but you're also field goals aren't 100% at this distance it's it's a little bit of a longer kick let's try to keep Drive alive and try to go get extra points getting some heat and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 man it didn't take long for the defense to get home on that play you see them playing man coverage in the back end slowing down the routes from the receivers and the rest of the offense that forced the quarterback to have to hold on to it for just a split second longer than they were able to get the sack last play the kind of thing that can mess up a really good drive it's second and 17 wide receiver coming across in motion looking for a man it's mcord working that left side now he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short we reached the two-minute warning and the defense needs to come up with a stop to close this thing out still plenty of time for this offense but this probably their final drive under two minutes to play on Third and short they'll try to convert through the air finds a man on the right defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal at the six and The Yards just continue to stack up for this dude we've already talked about he made over 300 over 400 now he's over 450 on the game he has been on fire and he race it to the house touchdown orange and this is obviously a no-brainer great job by the offense great execution inside of two minutes you got to go for two you you got to dial up this play try to tie this football game up what's your favorite two-point play dial it up and let's tie this game up a gargantuan moment here as they try to tie it up late with the two-point conversion trying to barge their way in he is denied stopped short of the goal line trying to tie the game and he will not get the two-point conversion now down by two inside a minute to go if they can get this onside kick maybe they could get into field goal range he's able to grab the football and the hands team gets the job done Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense one possession game getting late first order of business just take care of the
