welcome to Salt Lake city where the mighty Utah student section is ready to turn this place into a cauldron of noise rice e Stadium home to the Utah youths today a couple of squads here to square off in a big 12 Showdown as we'll see the B bears taking on the 12th rank team in the land the you for EA Sports college football Rees Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started and the you will get us underway with the opening kickoff he'll bring it out it's Greese pull down at the 18 and the decision to bring it out of the end zone was not a good one so Baylor's offense will get the first possession of the game sometimes you sense that what the kids call Swagger is a false bravado this dude is nothing but real at wide receiver he's got that speed and it just you see DBS they're probably watching him come on the field right now and they understand it's going to be a long game this guy can go get it he can run he can do a little bit of everything at the wide receiver [Applause] you can barely hear yourself thinking here as they're trying to get this defense off to a good start it's a draw defense there to stop him after a gain of one to the 22 and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beans when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength to the air It's Finn out of the back field he's open that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop I like the running back there on the route and the patience he showed really setting it up he got to the defender was able to put his foot ground get some separation catch it and turn up field for the first and the Bears will snap it on First and 10 he's going to pass got the Quick Pass he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty here comes the offense on second down trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three a lot of time those draw plays are successful when those defensive linemen run up the field Rush the quarterback create not this time the defensive line did a really good job understanding that seeing the draw play getting the running back getting his butt on the ground on Third and long you'll need to push it down field caught in the back field it's Presley and the defense is swarming to keep him from getting to the first down he just didn't have a chance to get loose and make his way to that first down marker I think fans get upset sometimes like run your rout past the so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and forcing the fourth down a fairly distance here toward the sidelines not his best work so the utahut offense will try to get something started with their first possession and they seem to believe that they can take big plays away and man coverage by just locking him up in this matchup David yeah and it's hard to lock down a great wide receiver but a great defensive back versus a great wide receiver we got a showdown yeah let's be honest David most defenses don't have a dude like that at cornerback that could do that in a game like this but this matchup is unique and it's going to really determine the outcome of the game after the three yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and the running back didn't get much there job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knock backs and limiting his carries they've got some work to do on this third and long from the 40 FS through the defense and how about that alertness swarming to keep him from getting the first down the UTS will punt this one away this will be their first punt of the [Applause] afternoon and the punt hits at the eight and goes into the end zone for the Touchback here comes the B offense back onto the field they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they run the reverse that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 25 he'll try to pop the draw pass the 35 he's open and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it well that's kind of the advantage of third and medium right is the defense you keep them guessing you could throw it you can run it that time they hand it off and they pick it up and you can see the d drop back a little bit it creates a little bit of space the running back blast through gets the first down trying to find his man on first down in the back field it's Jackson he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play getting suffocated right away how about the DB just seeing that initially pulling the trigger get to him get him on the ground get the tackle from L second down coming up now they'll run it to the right here nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the car that absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on [Applause] defense Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play trying to escape and get it himself picks up the first down and gets down to avoid contact that shows a lot of a lot of experience by that guy there not thinking to himself hey on Third and long I'm going to have to throw and make a really good throw here to go get this first hey if it's not there you don't got to force the issue you're a good enough athlete to go take off and get it yourself with your legs beautiful job the give to the tail back and they picked up nine on first down it'll bring up second and short I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points nyd pick up on first down and now they can take a shot on second and short after run run run now throw catch in the middle it's Baldwin they stop him at the 22 15 yd pick up on the play and a first down just outside the red zone that was a really nice catch and even better run after the grab yeah and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot is he can go either direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked [Applause] out after picking up a couple it's second and eight to give to the back he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage man not much wiggle room for the ball carrier there not really sure what they can do to try to create some space I know block back how about the offensive lineman push some guy backwards and make some holes third down in this crowd is tearing the lid off this place looking to throw It's Finn throws to the wide out he's got and he's into the end zone touchdown Bears they just took the air out of that thing that might be an understatement they took the ball away and just wore down just grinded away at that defense and took a lot of time off the clock in the process as well I'm impressed with the physicality up front of this offense because that's where it all starts if you're going to March the ball down the field like they just did you got be dominating in the trenches and they are doing that in this game right now lining up to tack one more on that lead and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing they marched 79 yd on the drive and they closed the deal with a 20 pass for Six about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack he'll keep it himself and they try the middle of this defense and that is not happening really nice job by the defense playing responsibility football making sure the quarterback couldn't make any of his reads making sure the picture is not clear getting downhill getting the quarterback on the ground now on second down the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D going to run it it's Bernard gets the nose of the ball to the 25 give him one this offensive line better fig out plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last play they punted on their first drive of the game and now they have to convert on third down to avoid doing it again looking to throw it's rising oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical Dage in distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play and the yous line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and he'll work his way on the return out to the 35 yd line before he stopped Baylor has it back and here comes the bear offense David they'd love to do what they did last time and put this in the you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they executed and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well and I'd love to see that here on the next drive too just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their heels not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 he's looking to throw reacted well to the tip but just couldn't squeeze the football instead of the turnover it'll be third down the linebacker showing off a little bit of athletic ability playing some man coverage a lot of times those guys don't play this all the time so you see him kind of get nervous and a lot of times get that pass interference or get a little bit handsy really nice job seeing the football breaking on it and swatting It To The Ground he can't make the catch had it right in his hands and it'll be fourth down every defense in the country talks about getting offenses in predictable third long situations where I can bring on more Speeders and I know the pass is coming so I can have more success the Bears will line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away tries to find a little more Running Room on that return but he'll be stopped at the 36 Utah has a back and the offense coming onto the field David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the punter out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of a r best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them the football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense now on second and short On The Run it's Bernard and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the Stop and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs will they keep it on the ground again here on third down knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the send out the punt unit he's going to try to flip the field with this one looking for a block it's Cameron cover guys their job and they get him stopped at the 22 yd line here comes the Baylor offense back onto the field they'll have another opportunity to extend this lead after punting last time David and it's important to put that punt behind you it's it's over let it go get back to what you were doing that built this lead yeah and defense obviously they won a few Downs uh that last drive so we got to put them on their heels here maybe mix up a few Personnel groupings and try to show them some pictures they haven't seen line getting set on second down misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air finds his tight end and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain well you hear all the time that the tight end's the QB's best friend you saw a perfect example of it on that last play right second down you need to pick up some positive yards to keep this third down manageable really nice job of executing that better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down to the ground to try to move the chains and he gets it up to the 36 it'll be a first down this is an offense that really sees their identity as being able to run the football nice job there picking up the first down and the Bears will snap it on First and 10 heing to throw it unloads to the wide out finds a man on the right good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 and listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to the Bears are marching down the field they move the tight end all over off the fake on first down to throw grabbed over the middle it's Baldwin touchdown Bor reeled it in and just made the house call quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the timeing to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you got to the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point makes it 14 nothing a very efficient five scoring drive and the Capper coming on that 48 yd touchdown Dart kickoff team lining up to send this one away and he takes this from inside the five and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next Drive Line Get Set first down the hand to the running back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he sought was the ball carrier yeah great job great feel linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys are usually 245 pounds of heat seeking missile got it behind the line it's Bernard he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down nice job by the running back catching the football and understanding where the first down marker was I got to go get that first down did a nice job of it they'll snap it from the 25 here on first down movement here from the tight end from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole Works ahead for a couple they'll stop him at the 27 you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs picked up two yard on that last one they need eight on second down quick release on the RPO good call good execution as they move the chains and they first down at the 38 love the play call on the RPO that time the defender bites on the Run fake and that opens up the window for the slant coming in behind it nice job they've been able to get the ball out of their own end nicely first and 10 from the 38 he wants to throw got a in it's Parks didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few yeah and that was tough on the DB right he's trying to cover the receiver on a drag rout running back over the middle of the field you're trying to avoid all the linebackers all the congestion he just couldn't stay with them long enough and as a result fresh set of downs for the offense the give to the running back from the shotgun they'll knock him down behind the line and that's how we'll end this quarter that's the end of the quarter and it's Baylor holding the edge really strong performance so far to be able to build a lead here in the first period as we look at the stats this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second period and they try to find a way to answer on third down going up top got it in the middle it's Bernard he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 I love running the angle route whether it's on first down second down third round it's a really good route it's a safe route just takes a little bit timing over the middle of the field but hey again getting it to a playmaker in space always winning hands it off he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon or if I can quote the great Reese Davis that was very UNG good not a productive first down play after losing a on that last play here's second and 12 looking for space it's Bernard One Step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long you saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical ninth play of the drive coming up but this one will be tough third and long back to throw it's risings it in a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down that's a great job by the wide receiver there on a critical down third down running the curl route coming back to the football making the catch and picking up the first finally this offense starting to shake the cobwebs and get things moving it's first and 10 out of the gun they'll run it inside you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make him know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively halfway there on first down it's second and five he'll run it again find AC crease at the 20 and he into the end zone touchdown saw a crease nothing but Green Grass and opportunity and he flashed through it for six and when you can get 30 plus yards out of your running back and he can make big plays like this man it's hard to call a lot of passes I'm just going to feed this guy The Rock they'll try to attack one more on their score and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer they put it in the end zone with a 12 Play scoring drive and he finished things off with a 32 yd run to the house about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll bring it out it's Reese really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Baylor has it back and here comes the bear offense the give from the gun he's brought down at the 29 after a 10yd gain this back loves running into the teeth of the defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed they'll start this one from the 29 on first down looking to move it through the air snagged in the middle it's baldman and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three and a really nice job by wide receiver you run a drag route find Space they're in zone coverage they're not covering manto man find a little hole look at that QB yall get in the same page you can tell they were that's why they got the first down their last completion has them set up second and short motion from the offense they'll ride the running back and leave it with him he's there to make the stop that's a great individual play and I love cornerbacks that don't just take pride in covering guys I like guys that like to put their face in and affect the running game this dude is physical and he impacts the defense because of it and those guys are really hard to find a lot of Corners they're smaller they don't want any part of the physical run game nice job sticking his face in there setting the edge making the tackle fires to the wide out can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's Fourth Down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion and the Bears will try to pin them back with the punt he'll try to really get into this one everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack they'll try the right side they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and a great job by the linebacker you could tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnos it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 they'll go to the ground pretty good job of running to get two there to the 32 I'll tell you this is a running back very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs now facing a third and long dropping back it's R looking to the big tight end and the timing just a hair off that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic look you can get the pass rush going everybody on the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth downs and the you will punt it away on fourth down fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt signals for the fair Catch and that's where they'll put it in play just outside the 20 here comes the Baylor offense back onto the field from the gun they'll try to impose their will just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first after picking up a couple at second and eight looking for room it's Richardson nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry it's amazing how played by a def in the back field can really swing the momentum not only of a series but of a game sometimes all you're trying to do is create negative plays to get them behind the sticks a little bit to get those sacks to get those tackles for a losses you see so much stunting in college football up front with the defensive line because you know once you get one of those plays you got the offense right where you are he couldn't find anywhere to go and now it's fourth down well that receiver's looking at his teammates like guys what's up you're not going to block for me screen seriously I just lost yards on a screen play how does that happen the Bears will send out the punt unit he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight signals for the fair Catch and looks it in at the 40 Utah has it back and the offense coming onto the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think off and the Deep shot is complete inside the 35 yd line and the quarterback knew exactly where he want to go the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giv him and creating an explosive play and they'll line up from the 31 on first [Applause] down keeping it on the ground with the running back a most efficient pick up of six on first down it's second and four you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four back to throw it's rising unloads to the wide out he's got an open man and he'll it in and take it to the end zone touchdown Utah that was a lightning fast drive that ends with a touchdown if you can string a few more drives like that together man we might as well get our popcorn out because we're going to get a lot of scoring P unit on the field hit that one with some aggression for the point a quick strike offense on that three playay scoring Drive [Applause] let's see if he can make a play on the return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Baylor has it back and here comes the bear offense they'll start this drive with a pass got his and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one well it didn't take long for this guy leave his impact in the game guys with that catch this guy's already over a 100 yard in the game and we're not even done the first half and the bears want to crank the tempo he leaves it with his back we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up [Applause] tried to pound it on first down now back to the line now the play fake throws to the wide out it's caught finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down when you're going to run a comeback route you've got to sell like you're going deep and that was a great job there by the receiver really making that corner think he was running deep down the field so he got the corner to turn his hips turn his shoulders and then the receiver was able to just pivot around to make it an easy passing catch they'll throw it on first down going to take a shot at this DB and he's on his way he'll go all the way touch Bears quarterbacks love receivers that can get sep but that amount of separation is a little excessive I agree Reese and I think the defense needs to have a little powow on the sidelines and talk about what just happened because that was an absolute busted coverage on the back end defense can't keep playing like that they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point the score is now 21-4 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the final 34 yds covered by that touchdown pass just about set to kick it away from inside the 10 here he comes not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack he tried to find some Running Room but they get him stopped well they want to come out and try to get the Run game established but up front defensively they made a play they gave up nothing on that one got to find some breathing room if you're going to establish yourself on the ground and there wasn't any that time yeah ree I wonder now if this offense is maybe going to try to get to the perimeter of the field and see if they can use their speed to hurt this defense they'll move the running back to try to force the defense to adjust and he had it for a second but it just dribbled out of his hands well man I mean you don't get more wide open than that right big fella running down the field nobody near him quarterback puts it on him just got to make the catch when you've already set your punter out four times at least he knows he's going to get his varsity letter and his leg might get a bigger work out if they don't convert looking deep down the right side and they can't hook up on the big play and that brings up a fourth down so nice when you know it's third and long you know a pass is coming you worked on it all week get your feet set at the sticks understand that quarterback's got to be rushed get him off of his spot nice execution by this defense the yous will bring the punt team onto the field and may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today looking for a block it's Cameron coverage team was down there to Corral him they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 here comes the Baylor off back back onto the field and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit well this defense knew coming in they were going to see some RP and they were going to see some quick game a nice job there taking the throw away from the quarterback Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down back to pass It's Finn quickly complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch it's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of downs off the play fake on first down wants to throw got him down field and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up not only do you have the big gain and you sort of knock the defense back but you're also set up in the Red Zone yeah they've got this defense on their heels right now after that big play we talked about this offense being explosive now that they're in the Red Zone let's see what they dial up next from the Red Zone he's going to throw it he's got it they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here motion by the back forces the defense to adjust finds a sof spot in the middle and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep it's exactly right find a guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my match up get it to him let him do the rest almost intercepted it'll fall incomplete the defense almost came up with a turnover oh and on defense you just got to be able to finish that play that Defender had the football in his hands he's just got to catch it that have been an interception they've got a ways to go on third down from the 24 as this defense tries to force him into a field goal try he wants to throw it again quarterback floating away from pressure and he gets out of there and gets some yardage and gets down without taking any punishment you just feel like throughout the course of this game this guy's just going to have to make plays like this right things aren't always going to be perfect and protection's not going to be ideal you're going to have to play with some effort make scrambles make some things happen when plays break down and at least try to put your offense in good positions wasn't able to get the first down there but now he makes this decision a little more interesting here on Fourth after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away looking for an alley from inside his own 10 he was hoping for something a little more dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Utah has it back and the offense coming onto the field they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close David and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fastpaced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you aggressive looking down field it's R gets it out quickly makes the catch and he's brought down trying to throw the wide receiver screen to pick up that first down but the defense just too much speed getting to the ball carrier on that one that last completion still leaving them with a third down from the gun wants to pass caught over the middle it's Pitman he'll have enough to move the chains it's first down at the 38 and the yous come to the line with a new set of downs going up top on first down catch in the middle it's Parks what we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a room quick Tempo no huddle off and second down clock's running he's looking to throw fires to the wide out working that left side he'll work his way down to the 28 and a really good job by back being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive gain I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today offense has it at the 28 on first down he's going to pass I don't think that's the way they drew it up incomplete and I tell you what I know it's little when these QBs Miss and the ball's not right to him but man it makes such a difference with yards after the catch and in this case cat the football it was just a little bit off and it just made it a little bit difficult for his wide receiver to try to make the catch looking for a man it's ryy this time he's got his man he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to [Applause] go so the offense gets an automatic first down after the roughing the passer penalty guys bringing the heat is what any defense is about but you have to stop short making that official reach for his flag grabbed in the middle it's keii Cris execution in the passing game and they've got it down to the three a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do trying to slam in he's got it down to the one ydd line right on the doorstep of per there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer and after getting it right on the edge they'll try to punch it in on third down the back goes in motion po forward and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play second quarter might not be gamble time but inside the three Palmer I've got the green light I'm going for this I am too and you're essentially running a two-point play here right you've got a play you practiced all week wedges pushes and he's over and in for the touchdown and how about make no mistake about it line up bring in the big boys you know you probably have a good idea of what I'm trying to accomplish fourth down situation and the offense comes through playing a little physic playing with a little physicality a little muscle ling up to add another and the P will draw them one point closer that touchdown Drive covered 61 y it was finished off with the quarterback sneak they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering on the run from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Baylor has it back and here comes the bear offense scanning the field It's Finn extending the play he's going to run it at the 35 he's loose the offense Wast no time getting the timeout call this guy just gives you nightmares I mean he's just got so much electricity he just pulls it down and chews up yards like it's nothing that's a quarterback a quarterback doing that to your defense he'll come out throwing on first down that's caught it's Jackson and I love when my quarterback sees Zone and knows exactly where to go with the football sees the wide running the drag route knows when to throw it pulls the trigger for the easy completion and here comes the offense on second [Applause] down he's looking to throw pressure coming and the heat gets home they knock him down back at the 45 first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors in our halftime update gentlemen you've been calling a lively one so far from Salt Lake City the passing game for both sides has been outstanding on point unrelenting they've excelled in the short game the intermediate game and especially on the Deep ball all in all a thrilling dis of offensive power and these defenses have a lot to discuss here at half time and with that let's send it back to the pH at Rice e Stadium got things teed up and just about ready to go here in the second half here he comes from inside his own five and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down On The Ground the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack they had a really productive first half but in a game like this they better keep it up you know at halftime the offense and defense separate and they kind of go over their own adjustments you know the offense was stand to themselves very quietly guys we're not going to stop anybody we got to keep scoring if we're going to win this game so the pressure is on them here in the second half David yeah and you get the ball first and so it's been a high scoring first half you get to go out here now and make a statement start this half say listen we're going to keep scoring points and then maybe help some alleviate some of that pressure on your defense theyy make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no no doubt he was going down great job form tack they'll put the tight end in motion they'll try to run for it the yous are stopped but not before getting it pass the sticks all right nothing flashy there he just did what it took to get the first [Applause] down and the youth have it with the first and 10 to the ground he's got it again finds his way ahead for three out to the 27 yd line small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him onor the Run game you got to do a lot of this got three on first down it's second and seven motion trying to get the defense to show its hand got it in the middle it's keithy there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give him a first down I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing game the yous are moving quickly down the field they're going to run it and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line the give out of the gun sometimes in your playbook you have run plays that are called runit runs you the play on no matter what look the defense gives you that time the defense was blitzing but they just kept the play on that is an attitude type run that you can run into any kind of look and it paid off for it after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again reads it Fire's complete putting together a real scoring threat here as they pick up the first down at the 36 when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that play quick completion on the out they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first first this slot receiver is a guy the defense has to be careful of he runs good routes he's got some speed and if you're not careful this guy can gash you and now on second down for this offense they'll try the Run he works his way down to the 30 yd line before he stopped a gain of three this is the type of play that decides games are you tough enough to convert third and short from the 30 he'll pull it on the re and there were some collisions in there and the D finally sto him of the marker they'll try to put three on the board as fi goal unit comes on he's going to try to punch one through from 45 y away absolutely perfect and we are dead even after the field goal here in the third all tied up and just about set to kick it away on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 first down for this offense Ed the play fake now to throw he's got it on the right and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it the explosive picks up more than whole situation changed after that last big play now it's first and 10 from the 39 leaves it with the running back and how about to work up front by that big defensive line man nowhere to run on that play at all about all you can say is do better the problem are they able to do better and that's why you keep trying things right keep trying to get on the perimeter run up the middle try different things to see to do well from the shotgun now here's an inside well this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage [Applause] early Here Comes his home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down to throw It's Finn fires to the tight end now well within Striking Distance as that third down play gets him a first at the 29 David that is a great security blanket for a quarterback to have a tied end to make those conversions dang right find the big fella on Third and short Dependable clutch nice hands first down the Bears look to keep this drive huming lost to throw on first down off the play fake starting to feel a little pressure hey get him on the ground didn't see anything down field but made a little something out of it welcome to the frustrating reality of college football like the guy at the quarterback spot can just do that pull it down get posi yards makes the defense have to account for him every single play they'll line up for a second down play off the play fake coming after him and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass Pro a bit longer against this athletic front seven on defense it's going to be tough this is a third and long looking to throw and he needs a bunch grab behind the line it's Jackson and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop so he was forced to just take what the defense gave him and they were able to stop him short of the first down and when you're a defense and you get third and long and you know exactly where those sticks are you set your feet at them they throw it under I go rally make the tackle perfect third down and long execution by this defense what a disappointment no good and after the Miss field goal guys we are still locked up Utah has it back and the offense coming onto the field David they couldn't pay off that last drive with a touchdown now they move the ball down the field and executed like they wanted to until they stalled out and had to settle for a field goal I think if you want to take the next step two here and score a touchdown you got to start finding more creative ways to get your best players the ball let's see if they can do that here didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second 11 on the option makes his man miss really nice stop there from this senior leader they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on third down he drops to throw right down the middle can't make the play on the interception and man they were looking for their first pick of the game instead it'll be fourth down well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum fourth down and the punt team sends it the other away on the move it's Cameron he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return here comes the Baylor offense back onto the field you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right just have got to be able to execute at a higher Lev that completion leaves us with second and medium they'll give it to the back brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down well the defense is on their heels right now they're going to have to find a way to stop this guy when he's got a head of steam boy he is hard to bring down they'll snap it on down from the 35 used the play fake now to throw unloads to the wide out he's got it he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down this quarterback has just been one step ahead of the defense all game long great job with his decision making he's now got over 350 passing yards and the Bears Moving quick to the [Applause] line looking down field It's Finn firing to the right complete and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game it's so nice as a quarterback when you've got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good feel to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback let's see what they've got on second down leaves it with the back not a whole lot of progress made there on the short run better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass all kinds of room to throw that one in there defense makes a stop but the chains move and it's first andal from the That's What's So Scary About This offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there to much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play the Bears will try to put one on the board on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run touchdown Baylor an epic comeback they'll talk about this one forever if they can hold on but they're on top right now and this running back is so dangerous down close to the end zone he's got wiggle he's got great vision and burst and he showed all of those attri right there getting set for the point after and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and it was capped off with the 8yd Run almost ready to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown here's the return from inside is 10 nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack hand off from the shotgun a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three on the option that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there will they keep it on the ground again here on third down they'll try to bully their way for the first and he'll go down but he the business end of his stiff arm to that defender on the way and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards and the you will line it up on First and 10 they'll ride the hot hand he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so no room to run there and you wonder after that l first down where they turn now yeah and that's why it's so important for the defense to win these first downs right you want to create negative plays to make this offense so much more predictable after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 takes a hand off it's Bernard finds enough room to get three out to the 34 if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum they try to pop a run on the draw and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pick up on that play the will call on their punt team they'll look to pin him deep and the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down Baylor has it back and here comes the bear offense Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over couldn't make the play last time now it's second and 10 from the 30 out of the gun to give to the back finds his way for three out to the 33 [Applause] and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen one more period to go to see who can make the winning play and come home with the victory these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down throws to the wide out what a job to lay out and make the catch and you just get the feeling that this defense has to find a way to get off the field and get the football back at this juncture of the game trailing late if they're going to win here comes the offense on First and 10 from the 47 he's looking to throw it quickly complete he will step out of bounds but not before a big pick up and a first down for this offense this is so interesting right now watching this offense stay aggressive they've got the lead in the fourth quarter and you're thinking at home we got to just run the ball and try to bleed the clock they found something on defense they're taking advantage of two straight completions I won't be surprised if they throw it again they'll leave it with him just ran him over that run epitomizes a veteran savvy senior who knows how to find space this offense all game long has been running really well and I'm really impressed by how well they've recruited at the running back position they've got some Dynamic players coming into the game at different points spelling each other keeping each other fresh and they're hurting this defense they'll throw it on first down got his man quickly he make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down this offense is not letting up guys they've got a lead here late and they are still taking shots they're still looking for explosive plays this defense just has not had an answer here all game long they're about to run a dirty half dozen plays on this drive off play action excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away well they've done a lot of really nice things on the road in this game so far that's why they have the lead but after that incompletion now you can sense the momentum now switching back to the home team late in this game third and short from the 22 is the field goal unit getting ready or is this already four down territory and he drops it just a little too slippery in the hands after that incompletion on Third and short it's going to be an interesting decision for the head coach because I know he believes in his guys to go get it here on fourth down and Pad the lead but you kick a field goal you make it a two possession game here in the second half and I think that's the right decision on fourth down they'll run it looking for the first they stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on down a first down for the offense and finds his man on the left my old coach said you'll never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never [Applause] kept it on the ground last time bringing up a second down looking to throw it's Ry using the quick game and that is a Nifty bit of navigation to get through that traffic and get the first down [Applause] fresh set of downs after the [Applause] completion to the air on first down catch in the middle it's Pitman and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play well this offense knew coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there big drive for this offense late trying to tie the game they pieced together a couple of first downs and here they come [Applause] again used the play fake now to throw looking left it's complete what a nice connection knocked down immediately and they've got it at the 25 just outstanding execution continuing to work his way back through the football everything about this route looks vertical The Comeback it looks like it's a go I'm thinking speed and then he sets it down QB puts the ball on the money and he makes the [Applause] play he'll do it himself and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop well he shoes up yards does he that was really quick really decisive design quarterback runs are are very difficult to stop tell he's got some ability to make big plays and thank goodness they got him on the ground and there wasn't a bigger play than it could have [Applause] been running back searching for a hole they get him stopped after a two- yd game ball is at the 17 they plow ahead with with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming they'll try to get it through the air quick strike complete can't quite cross the plane to get the six but they'll have the first down well the field goal kicker can step away from the net and go sit down grab some water they're might not going to need him just quite yet that was a great play call throwing the ball on Third and short in field goal range to get the completion Now setting up first and go and guys if they can somehow some find their way into the end zone we'll have a tie game and he takes it in for the score touchdown and the running back gets his second rushing touchdown of the game you want to continue to feed this guy you could tell he's got a nose for the End Zone knows how to get in there knows how to make things happen on to attempt the try and that extra point was good and we are deadlocked here in the fourth so it's a 77 yd touchdown drive and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away he'll start the return inside his five and the coverage team able to wrestle him down here comes the Baylor offense back onto the field that last Drive was promising at times but stalled out and they turned it over on Downs Jesse I think we got to do a better job here just being better early in the Downs on first down finding positive yeah and it's frustrating when you move the football and get stopped the out of the field and get no points but they've had some success and I like the aggressiveness they just got to cash some of these drives in halfway there on first down it's second and five give to the back and knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker he gets it oh close to the first down Mar but I think he's going to be a touch short and the Bear decide to punt it away they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today another punt on the way got to make sure those hammies and glutes all activated don't want any muscle PS from overuse Utah has it back on the offense coming onto the field this could be a real turning point in the game they scored a touchdown they got a stop and now a chance to break the tie yeah this offense has got it cooking man and how about the defense great job getting that getting the football right back to theot hand now this offense Palmer has a chance to take the lead you can see the offense too they understand the situation right now they were jonesing on the sidelines to get another opportunity to run back on the field they are ready to drive this ball and go score they're going to go right back to him on first down picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a crease and you can forget running in the middle against this defense and just a great job by the defense being Stout right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get in more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first a third and long coming up here it'll be a draw he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they try to go draw but there just way too much penetration in the middle of the offens of line and that the offense has a negative play and the you will punt this one away let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one [Applause] not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Baylor has it back and here comes the bear offense to the air on first down working the middle of the field and it's complete slips a tackle and he's got room nothing but green ahead at the 20 touchdown bears and they've moved out front here in the four you know quarterbacks and receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page ready to try the point after the extra point is good and now in the fourth they're up by a touchdown and an extra point if only it were always this easy for the offensive coordinators One play big chunk yardage put points on the board just like that from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack they move the tight end all over back on the keeper on the move the 30 and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up there's an example of the offense taking advantage of all the attention the defense is giving this outstanding running back remember he's one of the best in the game they're expecting him to get the football so the quarterback says you know what I'll just keep it no one's keying on me I'm going to get up field and find an explosive play give to the the running back finding a way to put that foot in the ground and get it up to the 37 yd line hey five to six yards a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock halfway there on first down it's second and five it's a draw can't get him to the ground he has an ex Juke library and he exhausted it and still didn't pick up much how bold will they be on third down after that last run gives it to the back on the draw they tried to go Smashmouth on Third and short and it did not work against this defense boy there wasn't much room to wiggle for that running back there none at all great job by the defense getting the Back Field quickly closing up all the holes nowhere to run the line up to punt it away pretty solid coverage there and they'll stop him at the 26 here comes the Baylor offense back onto the field and they've got a little bit of a pushing here David if they can add to it on this drive it would be nice and it definitely makes a little bit of a difference knowing I'm up by more than a field goal obviously Jesse my mindset switches and I know I can't make mistakes yeah and David I don't think they have to reinvent the wheel on offense you're what they've been calling has been working just get back to doing what you're good at the Bears headed quickly to the line dropping back it's Finn he'll take a shot and he got a hand on it to knock it down in the end zone this quarterback is having a day man and right there he was looking for touchdown pass number five he has been dialing it up he's been throwing strikes we haven't seen him Miss very much like he did just there but what a g this dude is Happ and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down PA the pass buys a little extra time the quarterback scrambled around but the defense able to scramble him and turn it into a sack it has been said that the other team's quarterback must go down and he must go down hard and he did and often is good too the most you can get to him but great job by the defense rushing the back understanding pass and getting the big fell on the ground big third down as the crowd Gets behind this defense looking down field and he needs a bunch caught in the back field it's Jackson just couldn't find any room and he wound up throwing it in reverse they lost yardage he was not fooled on that one you know a lot of times you space and you throw this route really when it's off covered but you could tell the cornerback was up ready to come pounce on that screen and get the tackle for a fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he'll bring it back it's Pitman and they'll get him down after the return at the 27 yd line Utah has it back and the offense coming onto the field comes out throwing on first down quick out to the tight end and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one and how about the defense how big was that stop forcing the punt getting it back to the offense and all of a sudden you feel the momentum now on their side little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second [Applause] down they'll Run play action fires to the Wi out oh what a spectacular layout and catch well that's another completion this quarterback's on fire I get it he's thrown for over 200 yards in this game but it's because he's got people helping him out how about that incredible job diving out stretching out and Hauling that pass in quarterbacks love it when they don't have to be perfect every time they throw the football and this group of receivers they are helping out their qb1 he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today offense gets set for second down they attacking through the air grab near the marker it's Bernard tremendous awareness to get what he could and get out of bounds and now the offense trying to score one late where's the defense on that last play it's a two-minute situation you got the guy making the catch in the middle of the field you've got to tackle him in bounds and keep this clock moving somehow they were able to let him get outside and stop the clock that just can't happen looking to go up top on first down complete downfield and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains well this defense has tried to find ways to disguise their coverage and mix it up try to confuse the QB it's not working though that last completion he's now got over 300 yards passing in search of that tying touchdown they've moved the chains a couple of times it's first and 10 again he just about put this game away if You' been able to hold on to that one instead it's second down well I know it hasn't been a tremendous day statistically for this quarterback but his decision making has been good enough to win this game hasn't thrown a lot of TD so far but when things aren't open he throws it away like on that play right there he's not putting his team in a bad spot and that's why they still have a shot to walk out of here with a wble that's caught it's Bernard he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down what a great job by the quarterback working through his progressions here two-minute situation he doesn't force it down the field if it's not open check it down to your back let him go to work and he comes up with a huge play and the youths have taken it inside the 20 and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown Utah and great job executing the offense did what they needed to do you got somewhat of a decision here do you want to kick it tie it up I think you do with this time frame you know one to two minutes left in the fourth quarter you probably want to do that but you could push the envelope you could go for two and try to take the lead he'll try to tack on one more and on that extra point and we have a tie ball game here in the fourth so it's a 73 yd touchdown drive and the score comes on a 17 yd throw for the touchdown and we're all square as he's set to kick it away he'll bring it back from inside as five and the return man showing great vision to be able to find some space and put his team in much better field position they're going to open this drive with a pass grabbed over the middle it's Bell time out on the field and we've got a Dand all tied up right in the four picked up some yardage with that completion now second down he's looking to throw caught on the outside it's Bell he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks I'll tell you QBs and receivers they practice these out routes all week long you've got to anticipate you've got to be comfortable throwing it before he gets out of his break and they executed it perfectly right there to pick up that first score is deadlocked and we're running out of time scrambling away he'll try to do it himself still running at the 40 quick timeout called by the offense after the play man these are these are killers right late in the game in the fourth quarter you're getting to the quarterback but he does such a great job scrambling around when you do this you get extra first downs you start to wear those defensive linemen out so late in the game this could pay off great job getting the first down and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same call great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go on the move it's Richardson they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and that's a great play by the defensive end the best athletes on the field play defensive end you can ask anybody yes I agree Jesse re see they agree with me same thing but you watch them get off the football make the play that's why you put your athletes there these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down the give discards a man and tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker timeout is called with just two seconds left to go so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world timeout is called with just two seconds left to go it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal the ball is spotted at the 29 yd line that'll make it a 46 yd field goal attempt for the lead that is no good after that fail field goal attempt fellas still game well guys let's play some more headed to overtime and this just feels right both of these teams going back and forth so of course David this thing needs to get decided in OT let's see who's better short amount of time to do it a couple possessions probably maybe one possession each who's the better team all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and you want to play defense first because you want to know what you need that's a key Phil opical approach for most teams when it comes to overtime David yeah and remember the rule change a couple years ago too in the second overtime in twoo conversion so all this stuff is situational type football that you better have worked on throughout these weeks of the season first play of the first possession of OT off the play fake on first down looking for the inzo touchdown Baylor they strike first here in overtime man you talk about striking first and creating some momentum in overtime the first play you take it to the house and you flip the whole game and put all the pressure on the other sideline Palmer that's how you start an OT yeah and David that's just 11 guys on offense locked in first play score a touchdown put all the pressure on your opponent they understand what it's going to take to win this football now to push the lead to seven in overtime and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they know what's in front of them they have to answer that score with a touchdown wants to throw on first down and the quarterback will take a sack back at the 36 the first down sack pushes the ball back for this long second down to pass it's rising good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that [Applause] thing third down in over they have to keep the drive alive and try to get it in the house on Third and long he'll need to loen that arm got it in the middle it's keithy and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down this the biggest play of the game so far going for it on fourth down in overtime he'll try to throw and pick up the first
