to give a hoot today a battle in the Lone Star State and when you play another team from Texas it just feels a little bit bigger as we'll see a squad from Conference USA the Sam Houston Bearcats taking on a team from the AAC the rice owl for EA Sports college football I'm reys Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going [Applause] rice ready to kick it off and get this game started and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Bearcats offense will have the first possession of the game and here comes the quarterback and one thing you know for sure with this team as he goes so goes the offense and he's a big Talent Reese this guy can hurt you in a multitude of ways throwing and running the football he's going to have to be dialed in though because this defense is going to give him a lot of different looks it's really important mentally this QB is on his game linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting downhill and getting in the back field and making the tackle for a loss didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 sweet feat on the move find some space enough to get five to the 22 and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in the game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point third and six and they'll need a big play here on this opening drive throws to the wide out and this is going to be incomplete on third down [Applause] and the Bearcats will punt it away on fourth [Applause] down he's got great speed he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yardage he could on the punt return so Rice's offense will go to work for the first time today here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play well they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed now second and 10 looking for a crease it's Connor that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play rice will be forced to send out the punt unit he'll try to really get in into this one running it back it's Allen they'll get down and put a stop to the return at about the 28 yd line the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out for forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum right on target with that last pass now it's second and [Applause] medium he'll keep it himself and they're able to shove him to the turf as they stop him for a short gain well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving forward solid work and execution there they'll have a first down as they mark it at the 40 there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way and who wins a football game Power football with the Run you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six and that's a really nice play it's impressive when it's first down the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six [Applause] they'll leave it with him and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 [Applause] they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short the Bearcats will try to pin them back with the punt this will be a second time they've had to kick it away a fairly short distance here toward the side line not his best work rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here OPP yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this one how they been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on a defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this if they're going to be successful on offense pretty good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 and runs like that are like body blows a boxing match four five sixy gains early turn into 20 30 40 yard gains later they really wear down defenses and they test their physicality quarterback on the keeper makes it past the marker really nice run there good solid pick up and they'll move the sticks with a first down oo I like that option play I'd keep running that too because it's obvious the defense right now is really keying in on this run back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to run he wants to throw quickly to the tight end and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do now after the short completion it's second down the give they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long try to convert through the air makes the grab it's Campbell he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down one of the things that makes this guy so dangerous is how good he is after the catch if he's got any space around him he's able to burst he's able to make people miss and get extra yards for his offense you saw it right there the owls have it with a first and 10 used the play fake now to throw tight end finds a soft spot and he tried to string out that run but there was nowhere to turn it up field and he's forced out of bounds for a loss after losing a couple of yards it's now second and 12 as they try to keep this drive moving to the air it's Warner going to try to pop one on the screen he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down well a nice Gainer on that running back screen and how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks to really help out the back find some space to go to work third and long from the 30 yd line in this defense hoping to knock them out of field goal range from the gun wants to pass fires to the wide out and it's incomplete good play downfield by the DB got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here it's wise not to be too greedy and they'll go ahead and send out the field goal unit and there is a degree of difficulty with this one a 47 y from the right hatch thought he had it and couldn't get it through the upright he missed it after to the Miss no change in the score the bear cat offense ready to go back to work they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal didn't get much on first down it's second and nine using his legs it's pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the tempo run the football be consistent make that defense physically meet the challenge they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from [Applause] here on third down he drops to throw quickly complete they'll get him down but not before he crosses the 50 he's down to the 49 well we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball the give to the running back from the shot gun really nice stop there from this senior leader this offensive line better figure out a plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last play didn't get much on first down it's second and nine running back searching for a hole and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop I think he run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success rate how bold will they be on third down after that last run looking to pass it's Bower unloads to the wide out makes a connection finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play play and Jesse now their head's spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at [Applause] him the run from the shotgun not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end [Applause] zone he makes a grab down to the three yd line and that's where they'll have it first and goal and I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routs and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbox going for six and it'll be intercepted In The End Zone well the defense does an awesome job here with their backs against the wall in their own Red Zone coming away with an INT early that could be a big gamechanging type play in this game [Applause] rice takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for it more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish Stronger Yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get closer and closer down to the end zone halfway there on first down it's second and [Applause] five the give to the tail back oh the sweet Juke gets him free moved up to the 34 yd line give him a 10yd pickup man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big Chun it also looked like it could have gone for more lining up from the 34 on first [Applause] down they'll give it to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one don't you love energetic defenses that fly around that make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go somewhere where do you want them to go there there is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creating the tackle for a loss on first down lost one on that last one it's second and 11 it'll be a draw they'll wrestle him down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one well the defense wasn't expecting that they had a lot of guys back into coverage that was second and a lot of yards to go and they got caught off guard not enough guys in the Box to control that running back third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here and the will move the sticks third Ines everybody knows what's coming but it's so dang hard to stop and you better get penetration with that defensive line they didn't do a good enough job running back Falls forward and does his job this rice offense has a nice looking drive going they'll run it out of the shotgun that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs after the three yard pickup they come to the line Second and seven and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up for a good third down they've been able to control the ball this is a seventh play of the drive it's third and three to the ground to try to pick up the first they tried to go Smashmouth on Third and short and it did not work against this defense boy there wasn't much room to wiggle for that running back there none at all great job by the defense getting the Back Field quickly closing up all the holes nowhere to run rice will be forced to send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and The Return Man will have no chance as the ball sails out of bounds the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed them and those mistakes are going to happen you're going to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I in the first part of that drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right on this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the next play it's been a defensive battle through the first period and the stats tell that tale well based on that we can hope to see a little more offensive explosion here in the second quarter as we get ready to get things [Applause] started he'll do it himself he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and that option game can be tricky right but nice job by the defense playing assignment football and watch the linebacker you can tell locked in on the quarterback chases him down gets two and not only gets to him doesn't let him break a tackle gets him on the ground if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum back to throw it's Bower and this is going to be incomplete on third that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks you can get the pass rush going everybody in the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth things and the Bearcats will punt this one away this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fair catch just inside the 40 wants to pass it oh it's a pass that one Falls incomplete they reached into the bag of tricks on first down and couldn't pull it off let's see if they go back to the air on second down the give to the back that'll be a gain of about seven leaves him with third and three and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his pads this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the the 45 looking to throw for it fires left oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down and I like the aggressiveness on Third and short trying to throw the football take advantage of a look that they got they weren't successful and now it's Fourth and short territory who knows what they're going to do Rice will be forced to send out the putt unit let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one it'll go out of bounds and we'll see where they mark it it's going to be right around the 35 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels still on the 35 yd line they try it again on second and 10 back to pass it's Bower and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit just didn't seem like the quarterback and his intended target were on the same page [Applause] there a third and long coming up here [Applause] it's a draw and how about that alertness and that swarming D to keep him from getting the first down and the Bearcats decide to punt it away he's going to try to flip the field with this one fair catch called for and made rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often and the pressure gets him back at the8 yd line that Defender is a matchup nightmare for any offensive lineman to block he's got athleticism he's got length he's got flexibility he put it all on display on that sack they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 he's looking to throw he's going for a big Play Down field and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in quarterback could not have walked that ball and placed it into the hands of his receiver any better that was a perfect throw wi out deep down field you got to finish the play this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long makes a catch down the right side the express way is wide open and he strides his way into the end zone touchdown ows and man what a gamechanging type play the offense throwing the football deep in their own end and they're probably thinking to themselves hey let's just get some more space let's try to get a first down and give ourselves room to work with what an individual effort by the receiver after he had the ball in his hand taking it all the way Coast to Coast on that touchdown lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and the score coming on a centilating 92 yd pass for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack them didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 dropping back it's Bower throws to the wide out incomplete and man is he lucky to get that one back defense that close to an interception man the defense is making it tough on this quarterback early they already have an interception they almost came away with another one there doing a great job reading his eyes and breaking on the ball they've already punted four times in this game and they're about to run the guy out there for a fifth time if they don't pick up the first down here moving keeping the eyes down field he'll pull it down and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down the Bearcats will send out the punt unit they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today he'll get away another punt he's been really active today and no doubt he's going to earn his varsity letter rice takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing ply yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four he'll try it again and they'll pick up the first down and Mark it at the 47 all right defense that's that's what we can't do we can't give up this many chunk yards on the ground got to commit more guys to the line of scrimmage got to get those running backs on the ground that's way too easy here comes the offense on First and 10 from the 47 takes a hand off it's Connor Bulls his way forward and that defense doesn't allow a cut back and they get him out of bounds after a short gain nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up after the productive first down play it's second and six from the shotgun now here's an inside GI and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the stop the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they w running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys caught near the sticks it's Alexander and they knock him down but he got past the line to game how about this offense they're rolling they got a couple first downs together defense next what's your response what do you got you got to make some adjustments here the owls are marching down the field it's reverse he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three you know as an offense often times you try the reverse play because you're trying to take advantage of a defense over pursuing and buy a lot of defensive team speed didn't work right there great discipline by this defense last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 from the gun the ground game and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down I know that wasn't a big huge play and everybody's not excited the fans aren't going crazy but those are the plays that in the fourth quarter matter a lot again making you tackle my back making you feel the physicality of the football game throughout so you get tired and get worn down in the fourth quarter trying to move the sticks on third down through the air complete down field and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the def def brings it to an end well it didn't take long for this guy to leave his impact in the game guys with that catch this guy's already over a 100 yards in the game and we're not even done the first half and the owls want to move quickly off the bootleg to buy a little space lets it go to the end zone and it's incomplete as he was trying to f finish the drive with a score you know it's a good decision by the QB because his intended target wasn't open so throw it out of bounds and you can live to play another day here on this drive operating in the Red Zone here on second [Applause] down they'll go to the counter just a Oney gain leaves him with third and nine man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air he snares it in the end zone touchdown ow and this quarterback really does a great job of seeing the defense and seeing what kind of coverage they're in I think offense goes empty and they spread the defense out it just makes it so much more simple for the QB to see what the defense is doing pre- snap and then post Snap you can tell he's playing in a great Rhythm right now because he's seeing the field and these empty sets are really helping him out and the extra point makes it 14 nothing a 69 yd touchdown drive and they finish it with an 11y touchdown D kickoff team has the ball teed up in there about ready to go on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work wants to throw it's Bower now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the oh it's on the ground high ball defense covering it up and not letting the offense get it back it's a turnover man and it was just the impact of the hit that dislodged the football from the ball he was a heat seeking missile coming in there and he knocked that thing loose the offense set for a first down play looking for a physical attack from the gun nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry nice play by the defense but now is a time they've got to be more consistent they allowed this running back to go off in that first half and moving forward now they've got to try and take this running back away a negative play to open the Drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 fast motion from the offense on second down he'll fire grab behind the line it's Campbell the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage I love defenses that can tackle the catch right away you're not giving up any Yak as soon as that player has the ball he goes down now and the last thing they need is to squander this great field position facing a third and [Applause] long still looking on the move and he avoids The Tackle with the slide you just feel like throughout the course of this game this guy's just going to have to make plays like this right things aren't always going to be perfect and protection's not going to be ideal you're going to have to play with some effort make some scrambles make some things happen when plays break down and at least try to put your offense in good positions wasn't able to get the first down there but now he makes this decision a little more interesting here on Fourth he got it and now the lead is even bigger winning the turnover battle is so important and you got to make these turnovers convert into points the recovery yeah they didn't get a touchdown but they're still able to get a field goal and put three points up on the [Music] Bo he keep pushing that lead out and the kickoff team's getting some work from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position he was hoping for something a little more dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work they just haven't been able to get anything going and they better get started or it's going to get away from them David yeah and these are the weeks that you really wish that you were playing a video game and you could just reset the console start over Jesse and make something better happen early they just look like they're sleepwalking in this first half and it's not just one guy they just haven't been playing collectively as a unit and if I'm the head coach I'm considering starting to give some other dudes some chances here now on the option they've got it out to the 34 after getting five there you wonder now on offense have they found something in the Run game finally it's been tough for them to get the Run game going but they picked up a nice gain on that last one let's see if they go back to it they've got a first and 10 at the 34 caught behind the line it's Smith didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now they may want to think about bracketing him having a Defender play to the outside and to the inside probably some sort of Zone coverage where you're trying to get two bodies forcing the quarterback to have to go somewhere else with the ball to throw it's Bower fires to the middle and the timing just a hair off and when you're a quarterback man I know wide receivers are great athletes and they're supposed to catch everything that gets near them but when you don't put it right on the center when they're running a lot of times it just makes it a little bit more difficult and I think he did that a little bit too much for his Wide Receiver right there after the second down missfire looking at a third and eight here's the snap itching to fire down field safe completion on the screen and they gave him no chance to get loose and they force a fourth down and that's why as a defense you want to set up third and long situations you just want to be able to keep the football in front of you it's okay for that quarterback to hit the running back on that pass now you have all those bodies flying to the football and they're able to make a tackle the Bearcats line up to punt it away and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the day not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field they've got the lead here last time they set for a field goal but David got to find that balance between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got to take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then exploiting he'll pull it on the read and they try the middle of this defense and that is is not happening the offense thought they had a good look to run that play into with the QB but there's just an example of a Defender winning his oneon-one battle and making a tremendous play great effort by that guy third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass a beautifully Place ball to the outside in the tow drag for the big pickup man what a big catch on third down going up catching the football understanding where you're at now getting a fresh set of downs nice play by the receiver rice going to work with another first and 10 from the gun running back on the Move brought down at the 47 yd line after the 15yd pickup another good run man he has been picking up yards in bunches today Jesse showing off all the skills and he's showing no signs of slowing down David this guy just gets better as the game goes on he is a beast first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning as we reach the two-minute warning they'll need to try to get a stop to keep this thing from getting out of hand this rice offense has a nice looking drive going they'll throw throw it on first down fires to the wide out that pass is incomplete well no surprise there on defense right you know the QB is going to be trying to Target this guy nice job in coverage forcing that incompletion second down coming up misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air and they're not on the page there and I tell you what we've kind of gotten to the point where we expect QBs to be robots and just never to miss and always put it right on the face mask or right on the numbers and right there you could tell he just missed a little bit a little bit off and I guarantee he's tapping his helmet saying hey that's my bad on Third and long he has to throw for it fires to the middle another incompletion on third down that's one thing this defense takes a lot of ride on they like tackling the catch and they like being around the ball that time he was in proximity to knock that thing loose nice physical play rice will be forced to send out the punt unit they'll look to pin him deep and that is textbook instructional video out of bounds right around the goal line leaves it with the running back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the offense is trying to run the football at this area of the field right they just trying to give themselves some space so they can go operate but the defense just bullied him up front at the point of attack and they're able to tackle that guy for a loss down at the one yd didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 just feeds the running back referee signals time out it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced and this one will be stopped for No Gain timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down the bear cats will line up to pun it away sometimes avoiding disaster is the best thing the punter just gets it out of there and the returner will be brought down they've got it first and 10 at the 50 he's looking to throw it right down the middle it's caught down field and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play nice play design on that one you make it easy for your quarterback too because it's easy to see what's happening right in front of you over the middle of the field you can see where Defenders are dropping you can see where the soft spots are in zone coverage and just a really nice job by the QB locating his guide making an accurate throw finds his big tight end headed to the end zone and he cruises his way to the house touchdown out and this offense is clicking another touchdown didn't have to go far for this drive but this offense is doing what they want how they want when they want [Music] P unit on the field the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive the kickoff team out there getting [Applause] set he'll Darth the return inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work they face a pretty tall mountain here Jesse down 24 but if they're going to climb it this is a good time to start sense of urgency got to be big right here you just get the feeling at this point of the game David they've got to score on this drive obviously their defense needs to get stops but at this point offensively they've got to execute much better they they got to be super aggressive down 24 you're going to need three touchdowns three two conversions everything to kind of go your way so fast and throw in the football that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halftime update all right fellas the end of a very entertaining first two quarters of football in Houston and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kid's been everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats and with that let's send it back to the guys inside historic rice stadium and the Bearcats will kick it off to start the second [Applause] half he'll bring it back from inside is five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 rise takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again they keep it on the ground to open the third he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple maybe that stop is a good sign for this defense maybe the defense is starting to figure it out obviously offense has been running the football with so much success something has to change that was a good start after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 back to throw it's Warner not able to hook up the air incomplete not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long back up inside their 20 from the gun wants to pass looking down the middle all kinds of room to throw that one in there found a bunch of room and got it to the 44 yd line well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there going to run it it's Connors able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down got three on first down it's second and seven the run to the left he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage be a loss of three this defense obviously knows they've got to be able to stop the run if they're going to win this football game and you wonder if they've been able to make some tweaks and adjustments to try and take this running back away now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass might be looking to run he'll try to do it himself and there were some collisions in there and the D finally stops him short of the marker great job rallying to the football by this defense third down Q's trying to extend the play but great team speed on defense Now setting up fourth this is the absolute right call they're going for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down makes to grab well past the sticks and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down sometimes we don't give enough credit to a receiver knowing exactly where he needs to be on the field and they pick up the first down there yeah and you got to give the receiver credit obviously knowing where that is but the defender needs to know where it is too where is he trying to get that Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down need to just be a little bit more aware as a defensive guy it's so nice as a quarterback when you've got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good F to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback still some work to do after that last completion it's second down looking downfield it's Warner gets it out fast good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch yeah you throw a little hitch route nice job getting the ball out of his hands quickly wide receiver quarterback nice job being on the same page nice completion nice catch the have it with a first and 10 they're in the red zone and they'll pass it he makes the connection they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up and after giving up that completion guys I wonder if the defense is going to decide to stay in zone or maybe mix things up a little more man coverage maybe Blitz going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down on the ground it's Connors touchdown rice and the beat down has ensued the offense strikes again to extend its lead here in the second half and they got everything working how great is this you extend your lead now you get your defense back on the field great job taking advantage of the situation and building on that lead they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and he found his way to the end zone from the seven to cap it about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown fielded In The End Zone it's Phillips and the returner goes down the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back and they'll stop him just short of the first down just inches away from moving the sticks and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution the lone backs got it the bear catch brought to the ground but not before picking up the first well it's not a home run but it's just enough by the running back to move the champ first and 10 from their own 24 yd line wide receiver shows motion off play action on first down unloads to the wide out he's got it ripping off a pretty good chunk of yardage they've got it out to the 41 with a first down when you're going to run a comeback route you've got to settle like you're going deep and that was a great job there by the receiver really making that corner think he was running deep down the field so he got the corner to turn his hips turn his shoulders and then the receiver was able to just pivot around to make it an easy passing catch a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop I know the passing game sells and the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards of pop on the ground but it will be very successful halfway there on first down it's second and five looking to throw it's Bower throws to the wide out he's got an open man and he's brought down after a huge completion well they wanted this guy catching the ball on the right side of the field they could have just lined him up over there but it didn't that time he started off on the left side crossed the defense and made the catch on the right side of the field here's an opportunity for this offense in search of its first touchdown it's first and 10 from the Red Zone he's going to throw it snags it gets out of bounds after the big play and they'll be set up in business with a first and goal and when this quarterback is in a rhythm this offense is really hard to stop you've seen that on this drive he's three for three but they're also running the ball well everything they're dialing up right now is working and the Bearcats have it in scoring position on first and goal trying to bully their way in and he takes it to the house touchdown Bearcats follow the blockers the offensive line will take you to the hallelu land and I tell you what most of the time Reese it requires a little bit of skill to find that hole and you know Slither through a little crack that was not a crack that was wide open didn't take a lot of vision cuz the blocking was outstanding he'll try to tack on one more the extra point is good but the lead is still big down 317 lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field sags a quick pass on the left and good coverage by the defense just a short gain I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game after trying the running game let's see if they do it again on second down back to throw it's Warner looking to the big tight end he makes a catch I'll tell you this quarterback has just been in a great Rhythm all game long with that last completion he's now over 300 yds passing the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 from the gun give on the inside and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground when you're a defense it is stop the run first that is your first responsibility it makes the whole game easy and right now they got it going on the ground the defense is going to have to change something up these little tiny Dink and dunk Dink and dunk you keep doing this they'll go all the way down the field on you so you might want to get a little bit more aggressive now the play fake the sweet feet keeping the Play Alive trying to buy a little time and he cannot but he does get it back closer to the line of scrimmage what a great play by the defensive tackle look sacks aren't just for very athletic long defensive ends these D tackles man they use their strength they push lineman back in the pocket collapse it and come away with the sack now facing a third and long from the 50 yd line from the gun wants to pass he's got his man good tackle there to stop him short of the first down and now they have to make a call I mean good news here they get the completion bad news though not enough to pick up the first down the target there he's got to do a better job understanding where the first marker is make sure he gets the right depth on his route now all of a sudden head coach has a big decision to make yet another punt on the way got to make sure that hamstring stays loose he's been [Applause] busy so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keep this drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty fires to the middle find space on the right excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch and the owls are moving quickly down the field they're looking to pass from the Red Zone I don't think that's that's the way they drew it up incomplete going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone looking for a man it's Warner he's got it on the Move That completion will take it inside the four and the is threatening wow the quarterback knew he had to get that one to his receiver quickly on the end route did you see the velocity on that throw they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal they'll try to get it through the air touchdown rice and the bubbling has started this quarterback really does a nice job seeing the field and reading coverage and when you go empty and you spread the defense out it's easier to see what the defense is [Music] doing and let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second look after taking another look just to confirm everything the officials on the field got it right play will stand and with that extra point the lead remains in the gargantuan category they took it 68 yds on that drive and they capped the drive with a four yd touchdown pass the kickoff unit about to go to [Applause] work and here's the return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the bear cat offense ready to go back to work there's certainly still a hill to climb but they've got to make sure these drives pay off got a touchdown last time can they back it up here well and it's amazing in a football game how sometimes they'll surprise you with what you do once you get settled and you realize what's going on now I'm comfortable with it Jesse this offense looked comfortable on its last Drive they sure did it looked like they started to find some momentum so now it's on this defense to stop that all right you're a little bit upset based on what just happened the previous drive you've got to Bow up again and go back to what was working earlier in this game get some work done there pick up of four to the 22 and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on first and second down you've got to get those stops early in the drives to set up third and long so that's a missed opportunity on that second down by this defense that's incomplete tried to set up the screen and he dropped the pass well third and short the offense dials up the screen expecting the pass rush to come up field manto man but it just simply does not work defense stays home and they force the incompletion and the Bearcats will call on their punt team he'll try to really get into this one no return coming here fair catch is signal for and made just shy of the 30 rice takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again and boy was that pressure in his face immediately down he goes I personally love aggressive defense I love it bringing the strong safety down blitzing that sucker in there to get the quarterback boom get that guy on the ground nice aggressive play call by the defense a first down sack can wreck a drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 looking downfield it's Warner they're bringing heat can't make the connection the pressure there caused to miss timing and you've seen this formula work at all levels of football you pressure the quarterback his numbers start to drop he's not as efficient nice job by the defense somebody needs to make a play here it's third and long from the 26 he's looking downfield to throw the quarterback can make a big play when he starts moving around gets down at the last possible second to avoid getting lit up and the quarterback's in the pocket and he decides to take off and scramble and just couldn't get to the first down marker you could tell he wanted to pass the football maybe it wasn't there maybe he scrambled a little bit too soon but usually when you take off you better know you're going to get close to that first down marker or get it another on the way got to make sure those hammies and glutes all activated don't want any muscle PS from overuse and the returner will be knocked down the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second out across the 30 to the 39 after getting 10 on that one from the the 39 yd line it's first and 10 just too much mustard on that one can't miss the Target that badly well the offense tries to go RPO but that time the quarterback and his intended target just couldn't hook up and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down dropping back it's Bower fires to the wide out that is just a Seline credit throw catch tow drag everything you want and there was no question in that scenario that's where the quarterback was going he knew he had his receiver in a matchup that he liked running a route where he would find himself opening nice job between those two trying to find his man on first down fires to the big fella makes him talk to the hand they'll finally get him on the ground but not before he makes it to the 30 and gets a first down that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep it's exactly right find the guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my matchup get it to him let him do the rest he got a bunch and look close to getting a lot more but he's got the first down first down you know you always want to establish the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game the Bearcats getting set on First and 10 they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go got his man on the right and there is nothing doing on that one you got the completion and nothing else to show for it and offenses keep track of yards after catch consistently there was none there nice job by the defense swarming to the football as soon as he caught it and getting him on the ground they've got a solid Drive working but now looking at second and 11 off the RPO complete and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few nice route there by the tight end making it real easy for his qu back to find an easy completion they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on third down going up top he's got it they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down we've reached the end of the quarter guys and rice has the lead this has been a complete obliteration so far as the third quarter stats will show you so will the beat down continue or is this a comeback for the ages in store we'll see as we start the for trying to slam in and he takes it in for the score touchdown cats yeah and listen that that is awesome to see the guys continue to fight continue to keep competing because this game is open like we don't need to fool y'all we're not trying to get y'all to stick around and improve ratings like the game's over but you're continuing to fight you're powered in for the touchdown and show your kids that we're going to always fight no matter what the score is ling up to add another hit that one with some aggression for the point after a 70 yd touchdown drive and it was closed out by the short yardage touchdown the kickoff team out there and ready to go on the run from inside his own five he was was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field they go to the ground they stop him after a 6yd run out to the 24 man that's the advantage of having a good coaching staff to teach these players in this type of situation with the lead late in the game you want to stay in the field of play and keep the clock ticking they do that after that nice run sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and four they'll run it from the gun he get him stopped after a gain of four out to the 28 I think that was an example of the offensive coordinator trying to help out his quarterback he's trying to keep these third Downs manageable you know you throw the ball on second down and it's incomplete now you've set up third and long and now you're set up to fail looking for that first down on Third and short from the 28 they'll try to to run for it he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well this guy's been eating them alive all game long finally though David you wonder if the defense has been able to make some adjustments find something positive to help slow this guy down hey baby steps right that's a tackle for a loss I know he's got over a hundo on the game but this defense is definitely going to have to be more aggressive commit more guys to stopping that bad man fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he'll call for the fair catch here the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work looking to go up top on first down grabs it at the 25 in stri and he slipped through the crowd and he'll house it touchdown Sam Houston yeah and that's simple but it's not easy it's a go route like that receiver streaking straight down the outside of the field and my job as a quarterback is to put that ball up in the air keep it away from the safety he does just that receiver comes down with the catch nice pitch nice catch touchdown and they'll try to tack on two [Applause] trying to pound their way in and they're able to get him down and these decisions to go for two you see more and more of it throughout a game chasing points and then in the end you wonder if this just comes back to bite you almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 rise takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again looking for a gap it's Connor stopped at the 25 after a 5yd gain it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got a lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and POS our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do out of the gun the running back has it and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains this guy's been special today coming into this one they thought they had an opportunity really to get him going running the football and he has delivered you've seen the speed the vision his ability to break tackles well over a 100 rushing yards in this game and that's why they have a nice lead here late and they'll line up from the 31 on first down they'll try it on the ground running the counter and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anywhere got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 hand off from the shotgun finds enough room to get three out to the thir 4 they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a crease and the defense had his hands for but they finally wrestle him down short of the first first down rice will be forced to send out the punt unit on the return it's Allen they'll get down and put a stop to the return at about the 28 yd line the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work they torched this defense with an explosive passing play for a score last time out let's see if they go right back at him here's the deal you're down three possessions you know it doesn't feel likely they're going to come back and win but we've seen crazier stuff happen in college football it all starts with a big completion on a two-minute Drive they'll get the momentum started in your direction the Bearcats want to pick up the tempo from the shotgun the inside give they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and that's a great job by the defense understanding exactly the situation understanding to stay home play sound no matter who gets the football we're going to run to the football hard we're going to cage the football be disciplined nice job by the defense lost one on that last one it's second and 11 to the air it's B pocket starts to collapse he felt the heat trying to get away but down he goes he'll lose a yard or two well the problem for this offense now late in the game trailing by a bunch of points is that the defense knows they're going to throw the football and right now offensively they cannot protect the edge you saw the speed coming from the outside he was able to get to the quarterback for another negative play they'll come to the line at the 42 facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass quarterback now on the Run still looking and this defense goes backto back sack Jack it has been said that the other team's quarterback must go down and he must go down hard and he did and often is good too the most you can get to him but great job by the defense rushing the quarterback understanding pass and getting the big fell on the ground down by multiple possessions you can't come up empty on this drive they'll go for it on fourth down pressure coming downfield and incomplete the defense holds excellent field position here for the offense they think they can impose their will here with the run to the right didn't get much on first down it's second and nine wide receiver now comes in motion looking to pass on second down unloads to the wide out oh he drops it right down the middle of the field and he couldn't make the play I wonder if the receiver heard footsteps on that play Defender very very close but you'd like to see your wide receiver haul that in if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum going to run it it's Jackson and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop they're strong and they're strong defensive tackles they're strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy grabbing you around the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quickly between the uprights it's good and that lead grows even bigger well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease [Music] that lead just keeps getting fatter in this kickoff team doing a little running on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work we'll see if that failed fourth down in their own end last time David sort of curbed some of the aggressiveness when you hear about it all the time in football go for it be aggressive the problem is when you get stopped sometimes it puts you in a hole and Jesse now the offense has to come out and respond they were real disappointed not getting that first down you can see it on the sideline so let's just see if that's kind of galvanized them a little bit here to go make a statement and get some points looking for a man it's bow throws to the wide out calls it in a quick tackle may but he's got plenty for the first down and with that one he's now over three bills for the game and there's two reasons why re he's made good decisions and he's been accurate throwing the football all game long lining up from the 34 on first down looking to move it through the air and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball it's a nice adjustment by the defense here with a big lead in the game you're putting extra DBS on the field knowing the offense has to throw to get back in this one in the fourth quarter so your best cover guys on the field and they force an incompletion on the last one couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again the aerial assault continues looking left and the pass is incom complete jar Loose by the hit this defense has just been all over this guy all game long Under Pressure they're finding a way to get to him and effect his rhythm of course they have an interception in this game that's why they've got a big lead here in the fourth quarter this guy has never gotten into a rhythm a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass another incompletion on third down at this point of the game in the fourth quarter it is going to be tough for this offense to get get some completions here because now trailing by this much the defense is expecting pass and they're putting a whole bunch of extra DBS on the field to help them out in coverage coach has no choice here the offense has to stay on the field down multiple possessions this late for he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline snatches it on the right slippery slide find his way and ran away from the crowd into the end zone touchdown beat and it's now the second time this wide receiver has scored another outstanding job with the route great job securing the catch on to attempt the try bangs it through for an extra point so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish with a huge play in the passing game covering 66 yards to the end zone about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll start the return inside his spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field they'll ride the running back and leave it with him didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one after picking up a couple it's second and eight dropping back it's Warner he looks that one in nicely they get him on the ground but it's a first down this offense is not letting up guys they've got a lead here late and they are still taking shots they're still looking for explosive plays this defense just has not had an answer here all game long offense has it at the 28 on first down the give out of the gun they get him stopped at the 32 that's a gain of four it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six he's looking to throw feeling some heat and the ball B comes out what a disastrous play once that ball was loose offense didn't have a chance Defenders everywhere it's a turnover and this is one of those where you go o you you start to breathe a little deeper on the sidelines you felt really really comfortable having the big lead to plus two possessions in the fourth quarter but now you gave the ball back you put yourself in a position where you're going to have to earn it a little bit more now the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work [Applause] wasting no time throwing on this drive and this will be incomplete a big hit there for his second down well the quarterback knew he wanted to go to his tight end on that play he's a big physical Target but it was the hit on the play that forced the incompletion second down after that incompletion he's looking to throw got it in the middle Smith the defense has their hands full trying to stop this guy in the slot they're going to have to figure something out to bracket him try and get two bodies around and maybe get some safety help as well because right now they do not have the answer for this guy boy they love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal looking to throw it's B now adjusting touch down bear cats and here they come almost all the way back oh Uncle Mo has changed Sidelines look out brother here's what happens right something happens get you close in the ball game the defense needs to come out here get a stop get that ball back to the offense oh Uncle Mo on your side getting set for the point after and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer quick strike offense on that three play scoring drive and it was punctuated by an 11 yd Run for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive [Applause] he'll bring it back from inside to spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 rice takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again oh he's looking to throw got his man to the left got a lot of Running Room pass the 20 and he ran away from the crowd and he'll take it in touchdown Els this game must be moving so slowly for this quarterback he sees everything two or three beats ahead way ahead I mean it's been been really really easy I better get some more hits on him I better do something to make him feel uncomfortable cuz right now it's just like oh you're right in that yeah that's easy I mean he's already read your mail you better change the address do something different now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point is true and they have a two touchdown lead up 14 in the fourth the kickoff team takes the field to boot one on first down catch in the middle it's Smith makes the stop at the 33 but it's a 15yd gain well down two possessions good good news is you get the completion bad news though did not get out of bounds you know right now saving the clock that is at a premium for this offense and this set of downs gets started from the 33 first and 10 scanning the field it's bow can't hang on and he'll tell you he really should have made that catch and he had an opportunity right in the middle it'll be second down you know that's a throw in the drag route where you just got to have patience you got to let your wide receiver clear through all the bodies in the middle of the field they just couldn't hook up on that one after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down he's looking to throw using the back as a receiver on the screen and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up I tell you what if you want to be overzealous and you want to be a Blitzer all the time I like running the screen right behind him did a great job throwing the screen almost broke this one for a long game but it just keeps the defense a little bit more honest if you want to start bringing a lot of pressure come to the line at the 42 facing a third and short now with a great opportunity as they pick up the first down they've got it at the 40 and David how demoralizing does it have to be for a defense when you know they're going to run it everyone in the stadium knows they're going to run it and still you cannot stop it there's nothing more demoralizing as a defensive lineman because it just it ticks you off it gets in your head you you know that guy's going to come off and smack you and you got to do something about it I think the defense may be time to start commit more guys to stopping that run not worrying about the pass as much he's all the way down to the 27 yd line and they are threatening and on that last play he's now over 400 yd passing well Reese if you're going to throw for over 400 bills you got to spread the praise around up front they've done an outstanding job protecting this quarterback and his receivers have been winning one on them wants to throw on first down fires to the wide out fires it incomplete not sure exactly what went haywire there but the timing was just off and that's your job as a defense right you got to find a way to disrupt the timing and jam wide receivers or get to the quarterback and make him feel uncomfortable but you can't let that timing be easy and effortless nice job by the defense on second down he'll try to make the connection this time and that one's incomplete unfortunate with that incompletion the quarterback and his intended target not on the same page they were really starting to put a drive together and after a couple of incompletions now they need a big play on Third and 10 they're going to throw it again got his man and the defense was right there to make the tackle but not before they get it to the 12 and set up in the Red Zone they absolutely had to have that third down to keep any glimmer of hope alive and defensively that's exactly what I want make you get to third down the clock is your enemy multiple possession lead that is right where I want this offense to the air it's Bower [Applause] that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds operating in the Red Zone here on second down they'll throw again after the incompletion he's got it and still on his feet that completion gets them inside the 10 and the defense is running out of room to defend and that's a good job by the drag rout there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback trying to get everybody set with the clock still running on Third and long trying to have a big completion here and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 you know when you go dime Personnel package you got extra DBS in the game so it's harder to throw if you're the quarterback there's just not as many windows they've got more guys in coverage you're expecting to at least have a little bit more time but your offensive line man they just couldn't hold up down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down makes the catch he is stopped short of the line to gain the fourth down goes AR and that might just do it to the ground with the back really nice stop there from this senior leader quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense at this point the defense has little choice but to sell out to stop the run on second and seven on the gun running back gets to give they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun they'll give it on the inside they stop him after a short game probably just wanted to mitigate the losses with fourth down coming defense uses a timeout quickly trying trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense rice will be forced to send out the punt unit so from his own End Zone the punt is away no return coming he'll call for the fair catch here comes the offense on first down they'll start this drive with a pass he's going up top here late in the game what a spect grab there as they try to finish this game with a little something to feel good about hey you know the defense here in this situation with a huge lead they've got to anticipate that this offense is going to be trying to throw the ball to the sideline so they've got to work different coverages to try to force the quarterback to go over the middle of the field with the football they've got this defense reeling after last play now it's first and 10 inside the 15 from the Red Zone looking for a receiver firing to the right complete and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain well it's important in this game this offense gets the running back involved out in the perimeter in space where he can do some damage that time they got it to him throwing the football picked up a couple of
