welcome to Historic Nipper Stadium home of the Cincinnati Bearcats and they've been playing football here since 1902 and the fans are ready to see their team take the field this match up today part of the lifeblood of the sport a rivalry game where the results will be remembered for a lifetime as we'll see a squad from the ACC the Pittsburgh Panthers taking on a team from the Big 12 the Cincinnati Bear Cats for EA Sports college football Rees Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Applause] started pit lined up for the opening [Applause] kickoff here he comes from inside his own five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the Bearcats offense will get the first swing of the game there are always butterflies to start a game but when you have a rivalry like this the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive guys they aren't all the same we say that but we know differently the blood is boiling the temperature is hot Jesse you want this week more than most yeah David we've played in these games before everything just seems to be hyped right the game seems to be moving faster the crowd noise feels louder your composure will be tested early in a game like this one play in this drive and already out to the 41 it's first down they'll ride the hot hand and the Freshman does a great job using his technique and getting the man on the ground last time these two got together it was a tight one Jesse seems like every time these two teams play the game just feels faster right because it is a rivalry game there's just a greater sense of urgency when we see these teams match up yeah the fans feel it they know it there's so much to it they think about it all year long we can talk about the next game on the schedule they're always looking forward to this one he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well the linebacker showing you read and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football to the line of scrimmage and forced the tfl they've got some work to do on this third and long from the 40 scanning the field it's sorby Hees it deep and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chains they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's Fourth Down third and long situations are really hard to convert the defense knows it's going to be pass the pass rushers are getting up field you're under pressure you don't have timing and as a result now fourth down and the Bearcats decide to punt it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon he's able to pick his way for just a bit but he'll be stopped at the 18 good job by the punt team the Panthers offense will get the ball for the first time looking for a productive play on first down they go to the draw may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets him out to the 25 yd line well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three trying play action that's caught it's Hammond and they knock him down but he got line to gain I like the running back there on the route and the patience he showed really setting it up he got to the defender was able to put his foot in the ground get some separation catch it and turn up field for the first and they'll line up from the 31 on first down he'll pull it on the read they pick up half of it it'll be second and five that's what's so great about these QB runs they just chip away at the defense and as this game goes on these little QB runs they're going to help keep third Downs manageable for this offense after a good pick up on the run it's second down here's the hand off he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple how about that defense in the back field nowhere to go right away you could tell they were playing the Run game all the way and they got in the back field and got the tackle for L now facing a third and long looking to throw it's yarell fires to the wide out on target to the left ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go the football had time the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giving them and creating the explosive [Applause] play from the shotgun the hand off to the back they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two after the good pick up on first down let's see if they keep it on the ground the run from the shotgun defense holds their ground pick up of a yard it's at the 26 I know you want to prepare for every game the same way but there's just something different about rivalry games Jesse it's because ree I think players are aware that games like this Define your Legacy as a player your record in rivalry games is something that people are going to talk about for years and years down the road you have got to show up and play your best football in games like this it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anywhere and on fourth down they'll try to salvage the drive with a field goal this is going to be a 46 yard field goal attempt and the kicker delivers the three to salvage that drive and the first points of the day come on that field goal after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it [Applause] away returner is going to try to see what he can get nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field looking for space it's Kinder gets it out to the 20 after a pick up of four nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up after the productive first down play it's second and six to the ground with the back and knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 well man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack let's see if they keep it on the ground here on third down they'll try to get the first through the air and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 and a great job by the defense dropping in zone coverage all eyes on the quarterback taking away the options and then finally the pass rush gets home gets him on the ground the bear catch send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he will signal for the fair Catch and take it just inside the 35 the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field maybe they couldn't pay off that last drive with a touchdown now they moved the ball down the field and executed like they wanted to until they stalled out and had to settle for a field goal I think if you want to take the next step two here and score a touchdown you got to start finding more creative ways to get your best players the ball let's see if they can do that here sixy up on first down leaves him with second and four to the air it's yell throws to the wide out a strike downfield really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down well these wide receivers work the middle of the field so much of this is field understanding where the holes are in the zone or understanding how to get leverage on a man and these wide receivers are dangerous nowaday because they do it so fast and see that so quick and make those plays over the middle give to the running back you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play the counter play is a great play to mix in because defensively you're not looking for the counter you're looking to attack attack attack all of a sudden two guys pull across the formation now you got to change your direction really quickly and it keeps you off balance and really keeps you on your heels motion from the offense he wants to pass it on second down caught over the middle it's Lee and eventually taken down but what about that spin move gives him the first down yardage this pit offense has been clicking on this drive [Applause] looking to move it through the air quarterback needs to make a better throw there incomplete know sometimes the hardest completions for quarterbacks are the ones where guys are wide open you don't have to throw it any faster trying to get it to him quickly because you know he's so wide open like on that last play just take your steps throw in Rhythm and just throw a catchable ball let's see if they go back to the air on second down they'll run it from the gun ball spotted at the 27 they're facing a third and long to try to keep their hopes of a touchdown alive back to pass it's jarnell they've got the screen set up and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker my goodness this offense has got it roll they might put up a 50 Burger this defense they don't have any answers right now they're going have to figure something out the Panthers will line it up on First and 10 quarterback on the keeper a most efficient pick up of six on first down it's second and four how easy that I I mean when you got a quarterback that can run designed runs like this and and get you five plus yards just and make it look that easy God it makes it really hard for the defenses to stop going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone the playaction fake unleashes to the end zone and it's intercepted a turnover for the defense and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own well the defense does an awesome job here with their backs against the wall in their own Red Zone coming away with an INT early that can be a big gamechanging type play in this game the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work they'll give it to the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three I love this linebacker because he's able to dissect what's happening in front of him and he reacts downhill uses his speed to get to the line of scrimmage and create the negative play not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 right back to the well and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense well they're trying to run the football there just nowhere to go they got dominated up front at the point of attack this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking to throw and he needs a chunk play trying to make magic with his feet wisely avoids The Tackle with the slide it's nice for this D coordinator when he puts his nickel package out on the field because that nickel player he's got who Subs in is is good in coverage he's also aggressive and he does a nice job blitzing and he can play The Run they can spy the quarterback there's a lot of different tools this guy's got to defend against the mobile quarterback and I think you saw a little bit right there and that nickel package Now setting up fourth and long he'll call for the fair catch here the pit offense back on the field and ready to roll that last possession a prime example Jesse of how things get condensed in the Red Zone hard to throw fires one high and deep grabs it inside the 15 and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus and what a huge play for the offense hitting that throw not only is big for their confidence but it also flips the field pit pushing the pace [Applause] to the air on first down got it in the middle it's mfield that throw and catch gets him down to the six and the defense is running out of answers this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in PR he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D looking downfield it's yell and he got smacked just as he released a pass it's incomplete that's a phenomenal job getting after the quarterback and getting a hit on him to affect his accuracy because if they didn't get the pressure that was going to be a touchdown he had a guy wide open in the Ed Zone that was a golden opportunity but the defense comes up big they keep attacking through the air Let's It Go to The End Zone it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six man this quarterback is living dangerously right now guys of course we're only in the first quarter this guy's already thrown one pick he should have thrown his second right there they'll send out the kicker to try to salvage this drive and he'll try to knock through a short one is second of the this one from 23 never a doubt they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it [Applause] away from inside the 10 here he comes just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field wants to throw on first down the play F no chance to run but they still move it forward knowing that your man can make the catch against his Defender that wasn't a big play but it can set you up down the line to be able to take advantage yes get it to him as fast as I can when I see him open he runs the little pitch get it to him so he can make a little bit of yards after the catch and eventually that little gain he's going to bust one of those with his athletic ability couldn't find a lane a pick up of one to the 31 the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys touch pass on the Run nice job to get it past the sticks and they get him down at the 35 hard earned yards man you got to get these first downs any way you can sometimes not going to be easy and you can't just do it conventionally handing it off this offense is going to have to be creative football's a game of inches and you've just got to find the angles to give yourself an advantage that creative play call right there really helped them out looking for a physical attack from the gun at the 45 on his way he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down and that is exactly why you stick to running the football haven't had a lot of success but boom you pop on right that's what you got to do you got you cannot become one dimensional and just throw the football every down love the offense sticking to the Run nice job getting the first down you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six just a simple power play power football be strong be big be physical make it a fourth quarter game make them feel you keep him off balance solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six leaves it with the back still on his feet and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring down time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line guys that's the end of the quarter and Pittsburgh has the lead we've put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down from the gun they'll try to oppose their will running behind those pads he gets a couple before he's stopped at the 18 know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those Big Fellas get lathered up picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll run the counter defense there to stop him after he picked up a yard Ball's at the 17 they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one it's a draw and there were some collisions in there and the D finally stopped him short of the marker and they'll have to settle for a field goal try he got it so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it [Applause] away he'll bring it out it's Johnson pulled down at the 18 and the decision to bring it out of the end zone was not a good one the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field they've had a couple of productive d but they've had to settle for field goals in two of their three previous possessions Jesse yeah this is an offense that takes a lot of pride in execution and they feel like they should have scored a touchdown every single drive so while it's been good not great David just execute a little bit better and they can put this one in the end zone this time yeah and I think you point that out we went all the way down the field on two of our first three drives and got field goals now just a little better execution when you when that field starts to strink and it gets a little bit more difficult come in half stepping to tackle this guy too much strength and power he's up to the 25 draws are such a smart way to take advantage of fast defensive lineman they want to get up field and get after the quarterback it keeps them honest makes them realize they got to play the run too great play call they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 25 they'll try to get it through the air catch in the middle it's mfield and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one it's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of downs hit right back to the line and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming I love the quick decision that QB made there on that RPO knowing he wanted to get it out of his hands fast he just needs to make a more accurate throw moving for now on second down misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air makes the grab it's Williams tackled almost immediately they're well short of the first down I'll tell you for this defense they're going to have to find a way to Brack at the slot receiver because of how athletic he is they're going to need to make sure they've got linebackers and DBS surrounding this guy at all times let's see what they find in the playbook for third and long from the 43 fires toward the end zone and it's caught touchdown Pittsburgh and man is that perfect timeing you could tell a quarterback drops back he sees his guy and he knows he's open but watch the throw deep down the field Palmer right in the Red Basket nice play nice pitch and catch he did a nice job of getting it up in the air early and allowing his guy to run under the football locate it and then make a tough grab that is the definition of an explosive play now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish it in style with a 57 yd toss for six about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown bringing it back back and the coverage team gets the returner on the ground the mircat offense ready to go back to work they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close D and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fastpaced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a to get down 10 you keep being you keep being aggressive running back has it get some work done there pick up of four to the 22 listen I know that's not a huge game but those run plays add up they make you tackle the back every single play physically you have to get some guy on the ground it takes its toll throughout a fourth quarter game and the Bearcats are in the hurry up they'll run for it on Third and short they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down this is an offense that really sees their identity as being able to run the football nice job there picking up the first down and the Bearcats have it with a first and 10 now they'll run the draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one typically when you see a draw play you don't think of it being forced outside no you want those defensive ends to run up field and run downhill inside the object is to get those guys pass rushing and running out of their gaps so you can run the ball right where they were at that play had absolutely no chance of success they've been running it but now the pass got it behind the line it's Warrior and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones you got to get him involved now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30 [Applause] to the air it's sorby the sweet feet keeping the Play Alive The Freshman able to get home with the sack the number one job is to protect their quarterback and they did not they did not but my number one job as a defensive lineman is to attack your quarterback and get him on the ground just like this get in the sack rattle this guy as much as you can as many hits as possible on these quarterbacks the Bearcats line up to punt it away he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line the pit offense back on the field and ready to roll leaves it with the running back tried to fight his way through that tackle but he's brought down great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he'll do it himself good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets up to the 38 yd line this defense really has their hands full guys they got to play with great eye discipline because they don't know who's going to be keeping the football in the Run game and that time you saw the QB he was able to kind of skirt his way to get some positive yards offense breaks the Huddle it's third down they'll try to pick up the first through the air just a short pass to the tight end they'll get him on the ground at the 46 and it'll be a first down well they pick up the first against Zone coverage I think a big part of this for young quarterbacks out there is if you're going to be throwing into Zone coverage you got to throw on time you can't stare down receivers because the entire defense has their eyes on you so you can't Telegraph where the ball's going you've got to hold it to the very last possible second try to freeze Defenders with your eyes and then throw the ball into open areas of the field anticipating where your guy's going to be he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down really good concept there to get things going and use the tight end early yeah I mean just such a great job on first down setting up an easier second down understanding I don't always have to push the ball down the field but see the tight end make the throw know it's not a big game that makes life really easy on me on second down he'll toss it at the 35 he's open a tremendous run he was full four after taking that pitch just sweet execution you as a defense you can have the right call and the right guy in the right spot but that guy's just too good and how about the running back on that play just making it happen breaking off the huge gain it's tough to get these guys on the [Applause] ground right back to the well and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three yeah this coach ping staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three here's the give off the left side nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry yeah they're just going to need more push up front there was nowhere for that running back to go the offensive line got moved right back into his lap and as a result they lose yards on that play Third and long coming from the 27 yd line you can make a field goal from here just don't take a negative play back to throw it's Yarnell quick strike complete finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down it's all about critical downs and distances on defense you want to be great unit defensively you've got to be good on third down and in the red zone for this def giving up a third down like that that is just a gut punch Pittsburgh going to work with the fresh set of downs on the ground it's Hammond drives into the defense and they get him down after a pick up of three to the 16 I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced after the three yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven he's looking to throw feeling some heat and the defense a got him at the 27 man that's a great example of kyp know your personnel a QB that doesn't run great trying to get outside the pocket nice job by the defense applying pressure and running him down and getting the huge loss and they have converted their first two third down opportunities but this one a third and long looking down field and he needs a bunch a shot toward the end zone and he's got it touchdown Panthers and this quarterback really does a great job of seeing the defense and seeing what kind of coverage they're in and I think when this offense goes empty and they spread the defense out it just makes it so much more simple for the QB to see what the defense is doing pre- snap and then post Snap you could tell he's playing in a great Rhythm right now because he's seeing the field and these empty sets are really helping him out lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they now have a three possession lead at 17 they put put together an 81 yd drive and they CA things off with a scoring toss from 27 yds out about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field going up top on first down caught behind the line it's ker trailing Now by 17 David this is an opportunity they need to answer and down by 17 it's not panic mode yet like I know we just gave up some points and our defense hasn't played great I think this offense can still be who they are and stay consistent no doubt lots of football to go but you do get the feeling this is the time of game where you know it could get bad if you don't score and all of a sudden they get the ball back they take it down the field and put some points up this thing might be over so absolutely this quarterback he wants to drive this offense down the field and at Le put something on the board and it wasn't lack of effort by the running back he was trying he could tell he fought one guy off but another guy in his face right away but just trying to do something the offensive line needs to do a better job keeping some guys off this guy come on man take care of your running back when you've already set your punter out four times at least he knows he's going to get his varsity L and the heat will get home and the quarterback goes down at the 17 you got to be impressed with this defense early in this game guys they've got a big lead because they are getting after the quarterback they've already generated multiple sacks they thought coming into this game they could take advantage of this offensive line and that game plan is working to Perfection the Bearcats will send out the punt unit they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today he'll get away another punt he's been really active today and no doubt he's going to earn his varsity letter not able to pop the big return but they've got the ball back and ready to go with a fresh possession the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field this offense has really been clicking in the game so far Jesse no doubt everything their play caller is dialing up these guys offensively have been able to go out and execute them yeah and it's just maintaining the lead keep doing what you've been doing you got a big lead let's just keep piling it on until they find an answer they'll line up a second down play trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he has to throw for it grabbed over the middle it's Reynolds and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 well this offense told us coming in they were going to challenge this secondary early and often they were going to use their speed to their advantage and take advantage of this quarterback's touch and arm talent and they already in the second quarter they've got over 200 yards thrown and the Panthers have it with a first and 10 looking to throw it's jarnell and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down well the quarterback knew he wanted to go to his tight end on that play he's a big physical Target but it was the hit on the play that forced the incompletion after the quarterback and receiver couldn't connect it second and 10 he's looking throw finds the tight end he's R out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down ever since they invented the forward pass the tight ends have been running the drag and getting the first down I I think it's because the tight ends just so much versatility you know they can block and stay in the formation or they can release and come out but either way if the quarterback's patient most of the time that drag route's going to come over he's got it on the move they go up top to get it down to the five yd line as they try to pay off this drive right second quarter getting closer to the half offense is still having a lot of success stringing some first downs together defense is going to need to figure something out before they get to halftime this offense has been running up and down the field and here they are first and goal a chance to tack on another one before halftime he wants it all and he was looking to the end zone and they couldn't make the connection this defense is going to have to make some adjustments here at halftime because they have been taken advantage of deep down the field in the passing game they've already given up two TD passes that was almost number three and we're only in the first half they'll try to dial up a better one this time on second and goal from the five they want to just keep throwing it HS it in in the end zone touchdown p and that's his second receiv receiving touchdown of the game my man is just finding Pay Dirt tell you what these are the kind of guys that you continue to feature throughout a game when he can do this kind of damage after he catches the football they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead they covered half the field with a 50yd touchdown drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass they lining up to booted away and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the beat offense ready to go back to work these guys have taken some body blows in the first half but now a chance to do something to feel a little better going into halftime ree they got to respond now they they they got to put points on the board right here cut into this deficit create a little bit of momentum cuz this one's going to get out of hand otherwise yeah there are a lot of offenses out there that might just say okay let's just regroup and figure it out this offense doesn't have time to do that they've got to be aggressive they've got to throw it down field they've got to score points catch in the middle it's Henderson there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer now here on second down see if they keep tossing it around he's looking to throw got him downfield touchdown Cincinnati made the snag and strolled his way into the end zone man nice job getting the passing game going this is big man going to the half and listen I know you're trailing but building some momentum maybe this second half we can keep airing the football out cutting into this deficit and who knows what the heck will happen [Music] ling up to add another splits those uprights right in half quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and the scoring play coming on a 56 ydd touchdown pass the lead is 17 as they try to fight their way back in they'll need a stop on this possession about to kick it off here and they desperately wanted to attempt to return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback they'll throw it on first down unloads to the wide out all kinds of room to throw that one in there quick time out call by the offense after the play and with that pass right there over 300 yards that's a good day at the office being able to execute doing a good job seeing what's coming anticipating taking some shots today but his hold really strong put up some good numbers and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few after that last completion it's second down to the air it's y now he's got his man tackle was made at the 44 but he picked up 10 yards and enough for a first down the offense will stop the clock and use one of its timeouts pit coming to the line after getting another first down wants to throw quickly to the tight end the offense waste no time getting the timeout call a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game and a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do trying to get to him just had to get rid of that one good job to fight another play just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it he is brought down and Sack that is not the offense's ideal way to finish up the half but we'll head to loer room we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update phyas what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good oldfashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a oneman wrecking crew the kids been everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out the bear cats will kick it away first and we'll start the second [Applause] half on the run from inside his own five and the returner could find no daylight he goes down the pit offense back on the field and ready to roll they go to work in the third quarter with the lead but they have had a little trouble keeping their quarterback upright yeah and you you have the lead you're positive but the offensive line coach is definitely going to be upset and the offensive coordinate listen I don't want my guy getting touched he's being productive but give him some more time here in the second half I think he can do that too offensively by maybe leaving your tight end in to help block maybe chipping with running backs to help these tackles out on the edge because you're right that pocket has been shaky and if it continues to be that way in the second half this could be a much different looking football game and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my Speedster in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for and the defense finally makes the stop after the sweet run and good gain this is going to be a big key for him David with the lead here in the second half running the football right staying on the field and bleeding the clock yeah run the football you're ahead you can be a little bit more conservative but again this opens up the pass this keeps everything in balance for this offense he'll put the tight end in motion off the play fake on first down wants to throw and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned back that offense having to deal with the last thing you want on first down giving up a sack as they come up to the line on second down got a man it's Lee coaches talk about running with violence running with bad intentions that's what that looks like as he gets it up to the two third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off to throw it's Yarnell he off one deep down the left side and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down it's so nice when you know it's third and long you know a pass is coming you worked on it all week get your feet set at the sticks understand that quarterback's got to be rushed get him off of his spot nice execution by this defense pit will line up to pun it away running it back it's Smith the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field the last time they had it they took it down the field for a touchdown they can build some confidence that they could go backto back scoring drives here yeah and remember it's not uncommon for offenses to find themselves as the game goes on they had some things not go their way early but they found something last Drive David let's see if they can build on yeah you you just pick and pick and pick until you find that place where you're like okay this is an advantage I have they've clearly found that dude they score here we're in for a ball game he'll keep it himself nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle penetrate what a great first step he shot right through the offensive line and got the tfl third down and this offense is already in a world of trouble they could really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores from the gun wants to pass throws for the tight end he's got it off he goes and he's brought down after a huge completion what a great play call offensively taking the shot you flip the field and now you better get those Red Zone play calls ready and dialed [Applause] up and the Bearcats headed quickly to the [Applause] Line run in the Red Zone it's ker and and this one will be stopped for no game well this is a defense that we know takes tons of Pride stopping the Run that's where it all starts and ends with them and you saw a great effort on that last play going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down the hand to the running back they could have used a little bit more there pick up of three it's third and seven boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal they try to pop a run on the draw and they're able to get a third down stop here see if they go for it on Fourth and now on fourth down they'll try a field goal right on target the first time now he'll try another from 24 yds out it's good [Music] [Music] so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down fielded In The End Zone it's Johnson he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the Touchback the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field hand off from the shotgun find some space enough to get five to the 22 really nice first down run and you're seeing why this running back is an every down tight back he can run between the tackles he can run outside he can catch the football he can block this guy can do it all halfway there on first down it's second and five fast motion from the offense dropping back it's Arnell and the quarterback caught up two and sacked at the 12 and how about the strong safety on that Blitz great job timing it and also getting to the quarterback sometimes you're going to have to negotiate around tight ends and running backs and that strong safety he just beelined into the back field not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 snagged in the middle it's mfield and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more than 30 yards down the field before he's finally stopped yeah and you see some quarterbacks who hesitate to throw the ball over the middle I love it when attack the whole field and the middle of the field and being able to throw over linebackers and between safeties is a big skill but show that defense you're you will attack everywhere they'll run it out of the shotgun and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finish f after the nyd pickup on first down here's second and one now they'll try the right side they get him on the ground but it's a first down and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs Pittsburgh has a really nice drive [Applause] going from the gun running back on the Move Pils ahead for a pick up of one to the 32 there's strong and they're scraw defensive tackles they're scraw there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy grabbing you around the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quickly wide out in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage really good job by the defense seeing it and going and getting it nice job understanding the touch pass it could happen those guys go in motion man I got to understand safety's got to see that start flying down getting ready to play that nice job by the defense being ready for that play seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down they're trying to get to it just can't pull the trigger and the quarterback is sacked at the 41 how great is it if you're a defensive coordinator that you know I can put 6bs on the field in my dime package and I can still get home rushing for my guys up front are better than your guys and we're going to go prove it they did just there pit will have to boot this one away second time today they've been forced to punt and that one will Sail Out of Bounds no chance for a return there the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David and generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking for a crease it's ker he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense if every Journey begins with a step this offense needs to step into a third down conversion and then try to turn it into some scores and F oh he wants it all he's got it down the left side open Runway ahead touchdown beats and here they come almost all the way back a lot of times you see those receivers as soon as they get by the DBS you know that hand goes straight up in the air I got him I got to step on him he got a step on him and the ball was thrown perfectly out in front you can see he runs underneath it gets it and gets the long touchdown on the go route ready to try by the point after and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they finish it with a flare a 77 yd touchdown pass kickoff team lining up to send this one away he'll bring it back from inside to SP he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the pit offense back on the field and ready to roll complete to start this drive and they pick up just a few on that completion you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now they may want to think about bracketing him having a Defender play to the outside and to the inside probably some sort of Zone coverage where you're trying to get two bodies forcing the quarterback to have to go somewhere else with the ball oh it's a reverse they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one what great discipline showed by the defense when your jobs contain you're supposed to contain the football not let your eyes deceive you ball starts to go away your job is to still contain the backside great job staying disciplined great win for the defense they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here they're trying to slow Rush down with the draw they stop him after a short game probably just wanted to mitigate the losses with fourth down coming H will line up to PL it away let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one no return coming he'll call for the fair catch Here Comes comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one Dave we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going let's see what they've got on second down give to the back that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there ball is at the 42 yd line close to four down territory here's third and short dropping back it's sorby and it's incomplete on third down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion the Bearcats will line up to pun it away they're up to a half dozen kicks today and the punt will hit at the seven and they can't Corral it it goes into the end zone it'll come out to the 20 out of the gun they'll run it inside stopped at the 25 after a 5yd gain I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make them know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively halfway there on first down it's second and five looking for room it's Hammond and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more they've got a first and 10 at the 34 [Applause] the give from the gun he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down I tell you what with this kind of success on the ground I I think you two Knuckleheads could call plays I mean that's how easy it is for this offense right now they got the ground game working it's really easy now you can open up for other things but you guys could even try your hand because they're dominating right now they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for it got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four back to pass it's jarnell got it set up on the outside and the gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving man this guy's going to need some water when he gets to the sidelines they've been putting him to work on this drive right we've seen him tote in the rock with success now you're seeing him get involved in the passing game too they are highlighting his versatility here on this drive the Panthers with the first and [Applause] 10 it'll be a draw and they drag him down but not before he picked up the first first down first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody B Bas on the number of guys getting touches and a chance to show off their hands in the passing game one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory finally some signs of life from this offense which has done nothing in the second half it's first and 10 can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down quarterbacks time when they're in the pocket to complete throws that QB had no shot after taking that hit the incompletion on first down now they face a second and 10 from the 31 off the play fate fires left how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion and that's a big play for the defense playing at home your trailing you need to create takeaways you got to get the ball back nice job breaking on that one and knocking it away they were really starting to put a drive together but after a couple of incompletions now they need a big play on Third and 10 to the air it's Jarell and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up and that's exactly what I want from my quarterback I trust you I want to throw the ball down the field on third long make a play but understanding the situation throw that thing to the crowd now a field go puts me by by two possessions in the fourth quarter where I like my chances so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it's good and that was dead solid perfect and that lead grows even bigger after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away and he hauls it in and everybody's on the edge of their seats he was looking for more Running Room but to be found as he stopped at the 23 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work they'll leave it with him he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three so no room to run there and you wonder after that loss on first down where they turn now yeah and that's why it's so important for the defense to win these first downs right you want to create negative plays to make this offense so much more predictable not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 he's looking to throw good timing on the quick out and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one yeah and he runs a quick out route and this is a timing route quarterback has to trust him throw him the football you could tell they've thrown this a time or two nice job nice success looking for that first down on Third and short from the [Music] 28 looking to pass it's he took a hit as he threw it and couldn't deliver the football it's incomplete and fourth Down's coming and the quarterback gets hit again we already know this defense has gotten home to him multiple times in this game so here you are you're trailing in the game defense knows you're going to throw it they're pinning their ears back you can't feel very confident right now if you're the play caller and certainly if you're the quarterback that you're going to have time to throw fair catch called for and made the p offense is back on the field out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's going to be tough sledding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game but the defense knows the run's coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did interesting to see what the defense does on this next one he'll try to pop the draw they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down offensive linemen love when you sneak in draws when you sneak in screens it holds these defensive linan accountable you want to rush the quarterback you want to fly up field every single play we'll sneak right behind you and get some yardage they'll try to muscle their way forward on Third and short from the 29 from the gun wants to pass finds his tight end and they'll get it to the 39 yd line and they'll move the chains boy the defense really needed to get off the field there and they just couldn't do it and it's a fresh set of downs man that hurts when you're trailing late in the ball game you need those stops and you get them to third down you get them to those critical points now they get the first down you don't have many left you better get aggressive looking for room it's Hammond continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the def defense finally able to make a play getting a tackle for loss they haven't had many of those today because this running back really has answered the Bell they knew coming in they were going to have to give him the football force feed it to him and let him go to work he's done that well over a 100 yards rushing in this game and the defense just has not had the answers consistently for him they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker they've got it to the 49 yd line and they'll move the chains and this is exactly what this defense wants and wants to continue to do a couple more first downs they just got two first downs couple more first downs run the clock with the lead great recipe for getting the win this pit offense has been quicking on this drive it's a draw make the stop at the 40 but it's a 10 yard gain and a fresh set of downs everything going the offense's way they're trying to face this game late they've got a really nice lead so you just want to run the ball high percentage throws and keep the chains moving and they're doing that this has been a beautiful drive to watch offense continues to stay in a nice Rhythm here late gives it to the back on the draw he's knocked down at the 34 but they're sort of hitting them in the mouth with a 6yd pick up there they've got a lead here in the fourth quarter and there's certainly still plenty of football to go but this is where you'd love to control the flow of the game right you want to dictate everything to the defense and you do that by running the football that was a really nice run this offensive line is firing off late looks like they're getting stronger as the game goes on and that is a good sign for the offense not much room to run let's give him one to the 33 they come to the line three yards away from the first down marker they've converted twice on this drive back to throw it's y now not able to hook up there incomplete really nice job by the defense playing aggressive understanding it could be a running situation but still playing disciplined enough to play the pass and be successful on that third and short and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot no good lead is still double digits but missed a chance to make it [Music] bigger here comes the cincin offense back on the field line gets set first down running back searching for a hole he stop him CLE maybe gets a yard to the 34 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine is looking to throw can't make the catch and it'll be third down he had that thing and just lost his concentration come on alligator arms I know you're running over the middle of the field but do your quarterback a favor and just make the play they couldn't connect on second down now staring at a third and nine from the gun wants to pass that's caught it's Johnson and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop great job by the quarterback thrown against Zone coverage you cannot Telegraph where you're throwing the football you cannot eyeball wide receivers so great job by the quarterback using his eyes not staring down his guy and then throwing him open fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he's able to pick his way for just a bit but he'll be stopped at the 18 good job by the punt team the pit offense back on the field and Ready To Roll On The Run it's Hammond find some space enough to get five to the 22 you got to give the coaching staff credit because they really do Focus all season long on situational football with the lead late in the game if we're on offense we're trying to stay in bounds we're trying to bleed the clock and after ripping off a really nice run that guy knew I've got to get down I cannot get push out of bounds cannot get tackled out of bounds really really nice job the short hands it's Hammond and they wrap him up but not before he gets enough on the catch for the first down such a tough spot to be in on defense because you're trailing You're Expecting the offense to run the football they just did it on the last play and then on a critical third down they go play action and they throw it over your head you got to feel for this defense with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 grab behind the line it's Reynolds they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down second and short now after that completion wants to throw it's yarell spits it out to the back he makes the grab makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground this defense is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs routes too he is a versatile back and the Panthers are moving quickly down the field wide receiver now comes in motion off the play fake on first down fires to the tight end I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for a quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job got the completion on the last play still some work to do on second down he'll pull it on the read he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and I think everybody wants to run the option nowadays but the problem is can everybody read it you got to be able to stick the ball in the belly the running back and you have to be able to understand or I'm pitching it to him whatever the read is you can tell he was a little bit confused a little bit slow and that's why the defense won this R trying to move the sticks on third down through the air finds his man it's mfield and this defense was flailing as he weaved his way and got down to the 26 well this guy's been a Goto guy for this offense all game long we've seen that and here on a critical third down late in the game with the lead guess who shows up with another big one that guy pit pushing the [Applause] pace trying to find his man on first down gets rid of it oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down oh man you don't see many of those anymore nowadays the gloves are so good the hands are so good you don't see a lot of dro passes missed opportunity there for the receiver last play didn't go as planned now second and 10 from the 26 it's reverse breaks the tackle he has an extensive Juke library and he exhausted it and still didn't pick up much they've moved it to the 25 but now facing a third and long looking for a man it's y now finds his big tight end and he'll H it in and take it to the end zone touchdown Panthers they've extended this lead guys but sometimes in a rivalry game you get down and you fight back that much harder man you've seen crazy comebacks and crazy swings of momentum in rivalry games you just need that first thing to break your way Palmer I think it really comes down to their key Playmakers David they can come back but these guys need to take ownership Now's the Time in this type of game they have got to step up and start making plays on to attempt the try and that extra point is a big one as they now have a thre possession 17-point lead in the fourth lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll start the return inside to spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work they'll crank up this drive with the pass he'll pull it down and run on the run and he'll slide to avoid the big hit he does a good job of dropping back going through his progressions nothing there what do I do go get some yardage make it positive don't sit back in the pocket and force something into a bad situation or take a sack great job making something out of nothing this offense has a second down play he's looking to throw quick completion on the out route good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch Precision execution and timing to pick up the first down on the out route I think you're spot on those out routes man it's got to be about timing you got to throw that football before he breaks nice job seeing it short yard situation throwing the ball on the money so the receiver can get up field and get the first down fires to the wide out that is just a sideline credit throw catch tow drag everything you want don't you just love the big boys when the big boys up front do their job and create a great pocket and the quarterback has time now to survey the field and take shots down the field and make huge plays and the Bearcats come to the line in the hurry up wants to throw on first down he's moving out of the pocket they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down well he does a really nice job buying time and I love the awareness there understanding no one's open down field knowing where the sticks are and he's able to use his athleticism to get that first down and the Bearcats have it with a first and 10 he's looking to throw it grabbed in the back field it's Johnson the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage he was not fooled on that one you know a lot of times you want to buy space and you throw this route really when it's off coverage but you could tell the quarterback was up ready to come on that screen and get the tackle for a loss and now on second down for this offense scanning the field it's sorby shoots it to the left makes a connection and they finally get him stopped but it's a big throw and catch and he's down at the five and Jesse there's a huge mountain to climb here but you might as well start with a chunk play well you got to start somewhere ree it's been tough going for this offense all game long they find themselves in a hole but I love the aggressive nature keep taking shots keep trying to claw your way back into this one two minutes now left in this one and time is running short if they want to find a way to pull this one out first and goal and this feels like their chance to make a game of it was the pass getting some heat and runs it in for the score touchdown beats nice job by the offense going down the field putting points on the board but you're still down a couple possessions still need some good things to happen you need your kicker to go over there get warmed up we need an onside we need to score some points we need a lot of things to go right to win this football game [Music] getting set for the point after and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer so a scoring drive there of 83 yards and they punctuated it with the 5yd touchdown run they are running out of time here they need to get the ball back they'll line up for the onside kick cool as a cucumber as the hands team makes a sure catch the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field okay you have a two-score Advantage here so while you want to be aggressive David don't hand them achievement dang right I'm not being got a lot of Running Room quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense I bet that running back's eyes got so big when he gets that hand off going to the right and he sees the huge holes yes please the defense just didn't flow quickly enough all of the blockers had leverage on their men and that defensive line has to get off the ball a little bit better get some penetration to stop that outside run operating in the Red Zone here on second down they'll try to keep this clock moving on the ground time out now called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal to the air it's yarell a little screen to the running back defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down they allowed the completion but this defense was warming to keep them away from that first down line yeah and you allow completions in those third down situations underneath the sticks and you come up and rally and everybody flies to the football that's great execution by this defense no good guys a double digit lead is good but more would have been better you wonder if mechanically something is off with this kicker that's now his second goal the day and guys we've got almost perfect conditions to kick the football I'm not sure what's going [Music] on here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field no time to feel sorry for yourself here Jesse there's still a chance but you've got to get it going now no doubt two possession game at this point right David not a lot of time left so execution has to be at a premium here yeah and I probably want to go fast I want to throw the football I I don't know possessions I got left I got to make them all count they created a lot of breathing room with that first play of the drive now first down from the 39 he's going to pass looking to the big tight end they've avoided the interception all day but they were lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down great coverage great breaking the ball had a chance to really make a big play and may even take that thing back to the house but you got to secure the catch we like to hit people more than we like to catch balls second down coming up he's looking to throw and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down they line up with some serious work to do if they want to this one looking to throw at sorby a strip downfield he's got first down yardage as they move it to the 44 Hey listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that Cur route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to it's a first down they'll stop the clock to reset the chains offense Up Tempo to the line quickly they'll spike it to save some time and here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup what a great job outside working that route not only did he get to the sticks to make sure he got the first down but also was able to get himself out of bounds to stop the clock you could not do that any better in a two-minute situation he'll come out throwing on first down coming after him here comes the rush and they've got him wrapped up at the 20 28 for e e
