New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders | Madden NFL 25 Roster Simulation #madden24

[Applause] it's the National Football League on EA Sports where we'll see a brawl inside the NFC East it's the New York Giants and the Washington commanders and it's all up next we are just inside the Beltway about 10 miles east of the Capitol Dome as we come to you from FedEx Field here in Landover today long time foes square off in the NFC East as it'll be the New York Giants Taking on the Washington commanders Brandon G and Charles Davis thrilled to be with you from the broadcast booth and partner before we get this thing started what are you going to be watching who gets off to a fast start in horse racing terms they talk about catching a flyer out of the gate who sets the pace and makes the other team Chase that's [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] the kicker Graham GNA set to put his foot into this one and we are underway from FedEx field and no run back on the opening kickoff it'll come out to the 25 so out comes the Washington offense on to the field and they will be L out by their rookie quarterback I tell you what when he on schedule for that week secondaries take notice because you've got to stay alert back there on every snap a truly powerful arm one is capable of challenging any level of the defense on any given play that's why so many Scouts preach arm Talent when preparing for the NFL draft a quarterback with arm strength to make every throw in the book he's an asset to have in any offense on first down Daniels got a man right side it's maccaffrey and they get him down but not before he takes it across the 40 yd line 16 yds on the game's first play and a quick first down and partner they're locked in man coverage out left and they end up running a Crossing route rounded it a little bit more than a slant he's just going to angle himself towards the right side of the field and that's very difficult for Defender to Shadow him across all that ground and now a throw on first down there but it's incomplete and I can see the officials kind of looking at each other down there silently wondering does this meet the level of grounding fortunately he did have a receiver in the area but I have seen less obvious throwaways called as penalties here's second and [Music] 10 throwing again Daniels over the middle that's complete to mafre nine yds not quite enough and they'll be left now with third and one so they just need one yard here to pick up the first down again he'll drop to throw and he is caught and he'll be taken down but he does have first down yardage call it a gain of seven and it gets him a new set of downs give the rookie another on this opening drive and a first down with it nice start Charles for the first year passer he's come out made a few plays nice plays to begin this contest he certainly has and if he finishes off this drive with a touchdown pass I vote we don't call him rookie anymore we'll move him right to veteran and continue from there now a throw here to his running back call it a gain of six on the play and it'll be second down I like it I like it I like it get everyone involved in the passing game and you know you can create those great great mismatches throwing it to your guys out of the back field and on the first drive that can also help establish some Rhythm right I think so and gets everyone involved they feel like they're part of it and really gets them amped up as they go forward off the play fake Daniels and this one is going to be off the mark too far out in front well touching time a critical for those types of throws he put a lot of zip on that one needed just a little bit more finesse trying to get it to back here comes the seventh play of this opening drive they've moved it well but here's third down they'll look to throw again this is Z on the pitch and catch and he's going to have a commander first down by about a yard it's a gain of five on third and four solid opening drive so far Charles they moved this football into field goal range but you know that they want to cap this off with six and not three absolutely as one of the better coaches in the league always tells me on offense I want throw body blows all game long and finish it with uppercuts well here are the body blows right now he's hoping one uppercut will take care of the end of this drive eight yds on the pickup and now they'll have some options on second and short someone's looking fresh and this old line is definitely looking their chops Everyone likes to run block if you're an offensive lineman nice early burst nice gain too from the 25 here's second and two they'll run again here with Robinson and he's going to take this one down to about the 23 yd line defensively we always know that he is tough in run support and I think the way that he gets there is he understands what an offense is going to do before the ball's even snapped a great job of scouting prior to the game then reading reacting and taking the right path to the ball carrier Robinson will try to pick it up and he will have the first down across the 20 to the 19 yd line a third down gain of three yds and that'll be enough if you make the stop there maybe you hold him to three on this opening drive they didn't get the stop yeah a new set of downs now now you're worried about just as you pointed out not just giving up three possibly giving up six let's see what they decide to do here because they've got to change up what they have been doing it hasn't been working he completes this one to Harry mclen and the commanders are going to be looking at first and goal as they move this down to the four yd line a lot of precision being shown on this opening drive they've been methodical they've been Crisp And as a reward they're going to be set up with an early first and goal a terrific opening drive has them knocking on the door first and goal operating from the gun Daniels looking for the point and he's got him touchdown Washington four yds on the touchdown gra and the commanders will jump on top with a game's first score here this afternoon well with this rookie QB we talk a lot about his ball placement and how good he can be at laying it right in there I think we just saw Charles though the strength of that arm that was an absolute rifle for the completed touchdown absolutely was and let's face it you think he was really ready to get that first touchdown absolutely he threw that pass with authority just as you describ big time arm right there and let's face it a lot of quarterbacks used to be pitchers in baseball the fast ball was usually their best pitch and we saw it there [Applause] [Applause] Washington kick team back out there now as they will send this one away from his in zone Isaiah McKenzie and tackled at the 21 one yd line so a net negative there of four [Applause] yds first go on offense for the Giants under the guidance of Daniel Jones the former Duke Blue Devil I still remember when he was drafted there was a little bit of controversy about how high he was selected by the New York Giants but his talents were revealed he can make every throw in the book surprisingly good athlete as long as he takes care of the football doesn't turn it over he can really make plays [Applause] Jones in the Giants now with a first and 10 at their own 21 they'll try and start this drive in the air and his pass incomplete so many times we've seen him try to escape the pocket and do something with his legs but in this case the pressure was too intense and he made the wise choice to just get rid of the football and make sure no one was going to get it now a second and [Applause] 10 throwing Jones over the middle caught by Bellinger and they're going to get this beyond the 40 before he's taken down def so the pi Decline and that'll give him a fresh set of downs and when you Scout tight ends one thing you want to know just how strong they are and we saw it in evidence there he was able to fight through all the contact and still secure the football now Jones that's complete to Jaylen Hyatt and he'll be cored out across mid field down to the 45 it's a gain of 13 for number 13 and it gives him a first down but one of the ways the quarterbacks keep all the receivers alive in a play Never lock in on any one guy make sure you keep your eyes moving scan the field and here he finds the open guy for a nice pickup on first down they look downfield and it's complete and they'll have it in the Red Zone before he crosses over out of bounds a good pickup there 26 yards and forget about the run to set up the pass they're just coming out throwing forget trying to set anything up they feel like they have the advantage they feel like they have the matchups and they're just attacking right now y going to the air on the opening drive so here's a first and 10 now down inside the 20 Devin single ter with his first Carry of the game and he is going to be stopped CAU hold behind the line of scrimmage officially it's a one yd loss that's going to bring up second and 11 sometimes I forget how much information he has to go through before the balls even snapped but what a diagnosis right there saw the Play Shot Through The Gap like a rocket ends up spilling it for a loss looking to throw on second Down Jones he's got and he lost the football and it's Washington that Scoops it up always costly to cough up that football these Defenders they become so ad depth though at jarring and free yeah it's amazing that there aren't more fumbles cause because now if you're an offensive player you go through ball security drills every single day it's really not out of line to think you should take the ball to bed with you and just hold on to it but the bottom line is no matter how much you try to protect it these guys are pretty good at finding ways to knock it out and now before the ball changes hands they're going to take a look at this just to make sure that they have it right and the question was the knee in fact down before this ball comes loose and is the video convincing enough to overturn it a lot of factors here remember you also need clear possession of the football afterwards this is a tough one to overturn so that one overturned they say the knee was down and that will not be ruled a fumble so possession still theirs but now they face a third [Applause] down back to throw Jones able to find the open man that's complete and he's brought down they're able to convert on third down and that sets up a first and goal I think he has to be saying to himself how did that not wind up a touchdown remember you just need the tip of the ball across the plane it's not going to get there but they're going to be set up in great shape with first and goal single T he is going nowhere in a hurry as he is going to lose yardage here in a big way a loss of a full three yds and now it's second down I think we got to give it up for him right there that's a heck of an athletic move for a big man right in the middle of the line how about the play he makes there nowhere to run and he finishes that one off for a loss they give it off here to the tight end trying to keep those big legs turnning but he's going to go down in the back field that backs him up one yard and brings up third down I like the idea to mix it up from time to time cuz let's face it you can't be predictable but the execution was a little lacking on this one right they might want to go back to the draw board with that call now Jones going to throw on Third and goal and just shy of the goal line as he's out of bounds right at the one a four- yd pickup not enough fourth down now that's going to be a tough one to explain when they get together watch the game film isn't it I me they had the right call had the out route he's got to know where the first down sticks are yet he steps out of bound that close not their best play single ter they'll run for it and they are going to stop him on fourth and one as they'll wind up going backwards after one 7even nothing on EA Sports second quarter now from our nation's capital and it's Washington in possession of the football as they get set to start their drive with a first and 10 the Washington offense at the line and ready to roll they've got the seven to nothing lead now they've got the football back after their defense got the stop CD and you get the feeling if they could score here they really have all the momentum on their side and you just wonder right now is the quarterback and the play caller totally in sync are they have one mind that hey what worked last time let's keep doing it until they stop us or do they go to a different section of in the Playbook show them something different either way they want a repeat of their first drive here's second and seven looking to throw Daniels and this one will be taken up will spot it right at the seven all that gets him is just a yard and now it's third down they made a nice effort to stick him with a loss for that play but it's going to take more than that to keep him from advancing the ball should be an entertaining battle anytime he tucks and runs over the second half of this contest on third down Daniels and he'll be taken down but he does have first down yards n yds that time Brandon you know all about quarterbacks protecting themselves but I have to admit it I liked what I just saw there that rookie wasn't afraid of absorbing a big hit now you don't want to see him taking those shots all game long but he picked up the first down kept fighting for yards and was willing to embrace some contact to keep the play moving slings this deep from mclen and that is incomplete took a shot there on first down but he couldn't reel it in how about this offense already feeling good about themselves with a touchdown already in their first drive they've certainly come out firing even though that one was incomplete with the seven nothing lead more apt to take a shot like that downfield hey you're one to the good go ahead and try and Press Your Advantage he'll try again with the arm here on second down throwing quickly there but it's incomplete so many things have to go right for any passing Play to work out quarterback has to understand the defense deliver an accurate ball receiver has to concentrate and bring it in somewhere along the assembly line something was off with that one this offense so far on third down a perfect four for four thus far this is third and 10 now yet another incompletion here as they fail to connect on Third and that's a good bounce back after giv up a touchdown on the opening drive just one first down permitted and then out obviously no loss of confidence with that defense and now they get to turn it back to their offense so on fourth down Washington going to call on trese to putt it away and back deep gun oleski oh good move a punt of 46 a return of five and it'll be Giant football first and 10 so the Giants getting the football back here for their second drive and last time they had it fourth and goal rolled the dice didn't get it now they've got got to put that behind him try to put together another drive he simple tip of the cap a knot of the head to the defense congratulations you got us last time but you didn't hold us the whole time we got down to position we were able to be in position to score let's go ahead and attack again continue to have that kind of confidence not worry about the one play that didn't allow him to get into the end zone and this time they'll be trying to get it into the end zone we'll see what they do five yds is the tally on first down that brings up second and five that's a really good gain right there they pick up five yards halfway to a first down the only problem now in the Huddle everyone's going to want to touch the football be a lot of chattering now because they've seen that they can move the line of scrimmage and he's swallowed up right near the line of scrimmage they'll say no gain on the play there and now it'll be third down the running Lanes have definitely not been there for him here in the first half and I don't think it's all been his fault his offensive line hasn't given him much space a loss results there here is third at five back to throw Jones he's got his Target that's complete and they're well past Midfield just a yard or two shy of the 40 second catch for him today and it'll wind up a first down for many people that's not your standard play call in that third down situation but for so many offenses they just want the ball in the hands of their Playmakers in open space and after he caught it he did a nice job picking up the first down [Applause] they go playaction here on first down high it able to make the catch downfield and they'll have it in the Red Zone before he crosses over out of bounds that one goes for 24 yards and time to give some credit to the Big Fellas the offensive line here because because you've got to have good protection on Crossing routes because you got to give your receiver time to work all the way across the field that time able to scan the field spot his receiver moving left to right and make a good accurate throw thank you guys and he'll get this one down to about the 17 making the stop that time Bobby Wagner vision is so important for the man in the middle because his ability to to to look through all the Clutter that's happening in front of him diagnose a play and then go make it and finish it that's when the great ones know that they have the goods on second down here's a run with single T and he'll go down here at the 12 yd line call it a gain of five that time and they'll be left with a third and about four I really like the vision he displayed on that play because he saw there wasn't a lane to completely break off a huge gain so he found where there was the most space and got what he could a nice dirty run that's a positive play for the offense here's Jones from the gun on third down and that is incomplete strong coverage by Washington and now fourth down what an excellent defensive stand there in the Red Zone nice tight coverage they certainly recognized how important it was to bring up fourth down here so Jones off Graham GNA on here for the New York Giants field goal from the right hash and this one just a chippy G's kick is good and they are on the board but still trailing it's seven to three so they're able to end that drive with three points in this one possession ball game and ideally you want to end every drive with points most quarterbacks would tell you let's end it with a kick right A P that's number one field goal you'll take punts you really don't want to do that in this case they'll take the field goal and get prepared for the rest of the game [Applause] after knocking through the field goal here's GNA back out there now for the kickoff and they will not get a chance to return this one as it's through the end zone for a Touchback the commander offense returning to the field these guys definitely hoping for a better showing than their last appearance they couldn't really even move the football much beyond the Shadows of their own goal post Charles we'll see if they can get a better more sustained drive going here yeah and every team that we ever talk to says the exact same thing when you start a drive from that deep in your own territory the goal is a minimum of at least two first downs because even if you have to punt then you change the field position right you flip the field a little bit they didn't get that done this time they want to string together a nice drive and help themselves out throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete now you got a Young quarterback you know maybe that's just an example of a growing pain for him I think you're right about that because when the game starts to move fast and it moves quickly on him a lot of times they fall back on what they know best there AR he's he's slinging it on this one had a wide open Target but didn't have the proper footwork to increase his accuracy and this is going to be a commander first down as the tackle made at the 35 yd line that was good tough running right up the middle and if the defense can't penetrate and make him slow his Pace or change Direction that's often the end result ball up to the 35 now as they come up on First and 10 off play action Daniels this is her on the pitch and catch be a gain of five and it's second down nice play call a little bit of play action right there if you can get those linebackers to freeze for just a split second that's usually all the room you need in order to get it to your tight end ball at the 40 here for second and five looking to throw Daniels finding mcaffrey on the slant so just three yds on the completion there and that's going to bring up third and two you can see the time and effort and thought that they put into their passing game because it was evident right there it looks like a simple pitch and catch but you and I both know that they have planned for this and worked hard to make Could Happen off the play fake Daniels that's caught it's maccaffrey again and he's going to have a commander first down as they're able to get the third down conversion would it be safe to say that as precise as routes are supposed to be run in the NFL maybe they're not quite as precise in college ball that's accurate yeah and I think we saw a college route in the NFL there just five the soft spot find The Dead Zone and find the first down and that's what he just did so the drive takes him into Giants territory now first and 10 at the 41 out of the gun Eckler running it and nowhere to run on the interior of that defensive line he'll get back only to the line of scrimmage Dexter Lawrence that time in on the Stop and the big fell stuffed that one up in a big way I think doubling him has to be a priority because you can't move up to the next level if you don't take care of him first two minutes to play in this first half 73 our score second and 10 operating from the gun Daniels a throw out wide going to be incomplete they're going for a receiver there already has one touchdown this first half a second one not to be I like where their head space is though I mean I really like the thought process right you got a guy who's already scored one right you want to go back to him continue the hot hand and make them adjust to you defensively I like what they were trying to get done even though they weren't successful that one downfield for dson he's got it touchdown commanders Jan doson 40 yards and the commanders are able to stretch out their lead he put quite a bit of air underneath that touchdown pass of course we knew that he had the strong arm that part was easy you could see that throughout his college career but what you want to know about a rookie is when the pressure is on can you throw with touch he just did right there and boy it was pretty extra point forth coming [Applause] and this one's right through to make it a 143 ball game so that drive in total eight plays and it was Jan doson with a touchdown catch to finish things off [Applause] [Applause] out is the kickoff unit as they run up and send this one away and that'll carry over the back line of the inzone for a Touchback New York ready to go again offensively they Trail now 14-3 an 11-point deficit as they start things out with a first and 10 [Applause] throwing to start the drive Jones there's a short one to the tight end Johnson and he's upended at the 33 following a good pickup of eight nice Rhythm throw there on first down he located his tight end made it a nice easy pitch and catch hoping he can break a tackle or two wasn't able to do that there but still good yardage Jones signaling let's go let's go trying to get his guys up to the line Jones to throw on second down and he'll get this underneath to single T four yds the pickup first down that was a pretty favorable situation there what would you call that second and manageable smart play too didn't force it downfield when he didn't have it just checked it down let him get the first down and that's exactly what he did first down now but the clock continues to move back to throw Jones he'll get this out wide to single Terry and he's able to get this one out closer to Midfield across the 45 so the completion results there in nine yards and it'll bring up a second and short [Applause] they'll stick with the passing game as he looks to throw and a quick throw here that's complete and he's out of bounds as he gets this down to the 45 nine yds the pickup there and it's a first [Applause] down back to throw again that one tipped and it's incomplete a good hands there defensively it's second down and not a common sight at least on this drive a momentary setback though for this passing game that has been moving well this series good thing for them though still two more Downs to connect and try and pick up another first [Applause] down just roll once more on second and 10 Jones now one finds highy the Giants going to go head and use the first of their timeouts as they'll stop it with just over 40 seconds to go in the first [Applause] half a first and 10 here you know if they could just get three out of this something about whittling it to a one- score game at half that might provide a psychological boost a throw there but that's going to wind up incomplete this already looks like they sto some fight in them on this series because it seemed like things were headed for the Red Zone but if this defense gets two more stops they can keep them out of that area so now second and 10 after the incompletion on first down to throw again Jones oh that'll be incomplete well it took a shot as he let that go and it's going to bring up a third down well it look like they marched to the end zone just hit a momentary road block with that incompletion no need to panic they just got to come up with a high percentage play call and see if they can get their offense back on track this offense was on the Move now two straight incompletions have them looking at third and 10 from the shotgun he'll look to throw and he's going to find his man out of the back field that's complete the Washington now going to use the first of their three timeouts as they stop it with 28 seconds to go in the first half of [Applause] play so Jones off Graham GNA on here for the New York Giants field goal G's kick is good and a second field goal here Cuts their deficit to 14-6 now so the three points here they're still down but they put some what of a dent into that lead going into the break anything helps when you're trying to chip away at a lead but they do know that they're going to need a little bit better effort in the second [Applause] half after knocking through the field goal here's gó back out there now for the kickoff and here comes a return from just beyond the goal line and the decision to come out of the end zone is going to cost him five yards as he's taken down right at the 20 Washington going to go on offense one last time in this first half and with an eight-point lead probably not too much of an impetus to try and do too much here a little over 20 seconds remaining in the half as they'll line up here first and 10 throwing to start the Drive Daniels middle of the field he's got mclen he's still on his feet and he'll finally be taken down at the 18 now Washington going to use the second of their three timeouts as they'll stop it with 14 seconds to go in this first half a real field flipper there as all of a sudden they've got a first down in the Red Zone operating from the gun Daniels and that's complete to mcaffrey and they'll get him down after a pick up of Eight Second and two and with Just 4 seconds left in this first half a timeout [Applause] call boys do your thing so with 4 seconds to go in the half here's the field goal unit onto the field from the left half should be a fairly easy one here and his kick is good and that will extend their lead here to 176 so a Capper there to a pretty good first half and I love the way that they put a choke hold on the clock and pretty much drained everything before they put the field goal on the board as they headed into the half [Applause] [Applause] so barring a Touchback this likely the Final Act of the half as the kick is [Applause] away so we have reached halftime here in an 11-point contest as we'll get you down the coast to Orlando for Jonathan Coachman at Rea sports halime report coach all right Brandon back to you too in just a bit but first welcome everyone to downtown Orlando and our EA Sports halime report we were cly treated to an entertaining first half both these teams with some high points and maybe a couple of low points as well so it's going to be a question of who can be the most disciplined team going forward [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] the Giants set to get the football and they Trail here as we get back underway in the second half and no run back here as the third quarter will commence with a Touchback the Giants offense set to begin this third quarter this offense Charles had a strong first half throwing the football at least in terms of yardage but that hasn't translated so far on the scoreboard as they begin the third quarter here trailing and looking for a little momentum yeah you're right about that because you know let's face it in first half most of their focus was in the passing game and to their credit resulted in a healthy amount of yardage so I would think that at halftime they're going to anticipate that defense loosening up a little bit to try and cover the passing lanes they've got to get the running game going and there should be some gaps to run through now he'll lose a yard there and it's second and 11 this defense is just flat getting after it they have not given up much of anything in the Run game case in point right there after the loss to start out here's second and 11 [Applause] off play action Jones Pass to Bellinger on the crossing rounde and he'll get this one way up just shy of the 45 yd line that one a gain of 20 and a first down but give them credit for a good read right there because they read the man coverage on the right side and set the tight end a few steps down the field and then angled him to the left on a Crossing route and he was able to get enough Separation on this play to turn it into a nice game they'll run on first down with single ter and they're going to get him behind the line yet again as his nightmare afternoon continues how about Jonathan Allen there pushing up field to make the stop behind the line if these guys going to chop into that deficit they going have to do a much better job in the Run game caught behind the line of scrimmage no yardage would be found [Applause] Jones now looking to throw on second down they'll try and set up the screen it's complete and he'll be brought down at the 48 yd line they'll wind up getting 10 back as that sets them up for third down well they certainly have their share of troubles running the football in this one but this play is almost an extension of the running game right here they set up the screen let him work out in space on the perimeter and he turns it into a big pickup they'll try and run for this with single ter and this is not going to be enough was in search of two yards and only got halfway there what an advantage having a leite guy in the middle of the defensive line because not only does he take up the space and let the linebackers Run free but he can also make plays himself as we just saw there here's Jamie Gillan now as he should be able to pin him back deep here with his first punt and this one will not be returnable as it sails out of bounds first possession of the second half now for Washington [Applause] they begin the drive with Robinson and he's going to be met at the line of scrimmage and taken down and now time will be called here as Washington has an injured player down on the field so as the medical staff takes a look we'll step aside back to throw now on second and 10 complete it's doson nine yds not quite enough and they'll be left now with third and [Applause] one and they'll let their fullback try and push the pile and he is going to run into a brick wall right in the middle of the field and I don't think he got there no gain there on the play and that's going to leave him with a fourth down here's trese now as he'll kick it away for the second time and a fair catch called for it made just outside the 15 yd line so possession goes over here on the punt and they will take over first and [Applause] 10 Single ter to get the drive started a gain of three second down he continues to struggle to find a crease to break off a big one and might need to just put that aside and just try and RAM his way forward and get what he [Applause] can from the 21 here's second down at [Applause] seven looking to throw Jones his throw incomplete just what they need a lecture for me but subpar offense is what helped get them into this spot and now they're continuing the trend with incompletions that won't get them out of it if they don't change something soon this offense in desperate need of a conversion as they come up on third down operating from the gun Jones a short throw pulled in by Binger and he will get him down a couple yards shy of the first down marker a nice tackle coming coming up from his free safety spot so give him five yds there on the pitch and catch and that's going to bring up a fourth down I thought maybe when he caught he have a good chance of getting that first down but that's a nice job holding him up and preventing him from getting to the sticks and here's Gillan on now to punt as he gets this one away taken right on the 30 that'll go as a 42 yd punt but a net of 32 they had a 10yd return and it will be Washington football now for the first and 10 a look at Washington as they come onto the field This Crew had to punt last time they had the ball but when you've got a lead like this you content to play the field position game you are to an extent especially if you like your defense because you have the lead you've been controlling the game but why put them in a tougher spot you want to get out there and get something done on offense and maybe take command of this game yourself they start on the ground with Robinson here and a result here a pick up of eight leaves him with two to go on second down H had a ton of success here so far but you get the feeling that he might be on the verge of popping one yeah even on that one there was a little bit of a hole but it closed there quickly at the end inside four minutes to go third quarter on second down another shot for Robinson looking to find a lane but he can't re in at the line of scrimmage call it no gain that time as it's going to leave him with a third and about three to go well done to sniff that out defensively he had it diagnosed pretty quickly I love that description because diagnosed is perfect on that one read his keys made the play and he couldn't even get going moving the football and he's got the first down yardage there as he takes it just across Midfield a gain of four that time as the drive continues a lot depend on the spot there and he got it but it wasn't by much was it I remember coach Madden talking about depending on which foot the official used that would tell you whether you got the first down or not you want that upfield foot to be the one that spots the ball don't you and you and I have the luxury of a couple extra views here in the booth and he did get it but not that much and down to the 44 five yds at a Time Well you certainly have to give a little credit here because they're playing this game now at their Pace this is ball control football sustained runs taking their time and making it work now second and five now they'll switch it up here and look to throw and he's got maccaffrey Open complete so that'll be no better than an incompletion and it brings up third and five now well he caught it right at the line of scrimmage and before he could even think about advancing It Forward he got hit great tackling because that's what you're taught don't give up yards after the catch and most offenses make a living off of yards after catch those hidden yards it may not go into the score sheet but they count big for moving the ball and stretching the field really nice open field tackle and he's going to have a commander first down by about a yard as they find a way to convert there on third down and five as an unbiased Observer I think it would have been interesting to see what they would have done if they hadn't gotten the first down there but since they did I guess the point is moved yeah they were right there in that middle ground field goal range punt go for it but as you said they picked it up and he is met in his tracks behind the line of scrimmage Dexter Lawrence finding his way through defensively for the Stop they have three tight ends in that formation that's almost a universal sign that they're planning to run the football but how about the defense there they met force with force and caused a stack up behind the line of scrimmage and threw him for a loss on second down another shot for Robinson and forget about finding a lane he barely had time to look up before he was planted in the back field this will be a loss of three and now a much tougher third down looming so they'll get a little extra time to come up with this third down play as we played three quarters we'll return with more after this break you're watching the NFL on EA Sports ninth play of the drive now on Third and a country mile back now at FedEx Field it's Washington with the football and the lead as we start the fourth this is caught inside the 15 and he gets this one inside the 15 just a yard or two shy of the 10 boy a nice play there as they wind up converting on Third and 15 and this is seemingly how it's been all game long this defense has been just a step too slow and here they're burned again another big [Applause] play so how about this for field position after the big play inside the 15 now as they come up on First and 10 straight ahead it's Robinson and a nice job to break free of one tackle but it's slowed his momentum somewhat and he's taken down right after give him five on the carry there and it'll be second down starting to become a tough spot for this defense you're down fourth quarter looking a little fatigued maybe on that side of the ball partner we've seen this before haven't we because every coach we've ever talked to says body language is important and now you're seeing guys with their hands on their hips they bent over hands on their knees and he's in touchdown commanders taking it in from Seven yds away and the commanders have pretty well put it away here in the fourth quarter and this is a balancing act for a head coach with a rookie quarterback you've got to walk a line with it you don't want him getting Happy Feet but you also don't want to reain in what worked for him in college and here he pulls it down takes it himself and takes it into the end zone now the try here for the extra point and the lead is up to 18 now a pretty long drive that time 11 plays all told and in the end it's capped off by a seven yd run [Music] the kickoff team on the field now as they will send this one away McKenzie will not return this and it'll be brought out to the 25 the Giants going to take over again on offense and Charles a very uninspired effort the last time we saw them out there it was a quick three and out and they punted the football yeah and you never want to get stopped so soundly during the series but what would be even worse now is letting it happen again right here they you got to get going Jones and the Giants now with a first and 10 at their 25 yd line they'll come out throwing here to start the drive he has high it over the middle and he's going to get a good gain of nine here up to the 34 [Applause] maybe a good spot to take a shot here's second and a yard from the 34 throwing Jones now they go screen it's complete and he'll bring it up here to right at the 40 yd line six yds the pickup and that's a first down well they certainly had success throughout this contest getting him the ball in the passing game and there he picks up another first down whatever they saw going into this one they've been able to capitalize on it and no adjustment has been made to take it away now Jones on First and 10 and that one going to be off Target and incomplete they lead big and a major part of that has been how they've taken their play to a whole new level this second half no points allowed since the break and you can add another incompletion to the total number that they forced in this runaway contest an incomplete pass on first down that leads to a second and 10 they'll look to throw again oh it's a screen pass that's complete and he is going to lose yardage here so that'll go as a four yd loss of the play and that'll Force upon him a third and 14 I thought that wasn't a bad time to call the screen I thought late game down on the scoreboard had to figure they were expecting a pass down field so the edge rushers they're coming that could have hit big you're right good recognition defensively to Snuff that one out now Jones looking left side he's got it complete and just three yds on the catch there he couldn't get away and that's going to make it fourth down you got the big lead defensively willing to give him that underneath stuff right and this is why you work on your tackling tackle them after the catch inbounds keep the clock running just go ahead and bleed the game out that way desperation time now here's Jones and is incomplete the GI it's go on Fourth but come up empty and Washington will take control of the football in great field position well at this stage of the game in the second half down three scores I guess they felt like they needed a push and let's face it with this deficit if they give up another score here after they didn't get it does it really matter right it really doesn't they had to go and try and make something happen if they had any chance of winning this game go so from the 39 now they'll come up on a first and 10 Robinson on a give right side down at the 35 it'll be second down I'm guessing you'd say this is kind of the key here grind out some yardage work on that clock see if you can continue to tick it down definitely you want to bleed things out at this point right continue to possess the football gain some yardage and put the onus on the defense to they have to use timeouts what are they going to do to stop you you're taking charge on second down another shot for Robinson three yds is half of what they needed now can they get the other three here on third down Brandon I've got to think this offensive line has got some Smiles on its faces and and I know it sounds crazy but they practiced for this back in training camp they knew they'd be in situations where' be extra defenders in the Box coming after them trying to keep them from locking down a game right now they want to show the world they're up to the challenge and they'll be tackled about two yd shy of the line to gain a one yd pickup leads to fourth down this late in the game Charles I think you maybe seriously have to think about going for it especially where they are in terms of field position because this is almost like no man's land might hurt your punter because there might not be enough space maybe too far for your field goal kicker I I'm like the old rule possession is 9/10 of the law possession is 9/10 of winning in the game go for it get the first down close it out and nowhere to go he's going to be stopped behind the line he needed a couple but he didn't even get back to the line of scrimmage and the Giants are going to get the football back so we were looking at each other up here in the booth when they went for that saying oh wow talk about trying to add insult to injury some teams are just like that you know some philosophy some coaches are like look when I got a chance to put some more points on the board I don't care what the situation I'm going to do it and they're also the same coaches as a general rule that if someone does it to them you won't hear people of protest out of them that's just who they are Jones and the Giants now with a first and 10 at the 33 yd line they'll try and start this drive in the air throw caught by high on the slant and he's coralled at the 40 but not before picking up eight Nothing Fancy on first down but a very consistent type of a play hit that slant a lot of people call it an extension of the running game and it can be if that pass is completed cuz you hit a guy on the run like that you often can go for big yardage sets him up nicely for second down staying ahead of schedule now Jones now they set up the screen that's complete and he'll be brought down right at the 45 yd line a gain of five good enough for the first down for for a second there I thought that might break big screen pass looked like it was coming together looked like there was an opening still ended up with a solid game and now it looks like they're going to be in the hurry up here's Jones throwing on first down now he'll dump it underneath to his running back complete the result only four yds there on the play and that's going to bring up second down defensively they're okay with that short little route tackle them inbounds okay all right cliche alert it's time for someone to make a play cuz they've got to have something bigger downfield they can't just take what they give them they've got to force it and make something big happen for them to throw again on second Down Jones throwing over the middle but it's incomplete at this point in the game they've got to continue to try anything they can they're still working at it even though this one feels like a lost [Applause] cause this offense on third down today they've struggled to the tune of two for eight so far this will be third and six able to find the open man that's complete and they're going to have another first down here as the tackle made at Washington's 37 the drive stays intact with a pickup of 13 from Commander territory now it's first and 10 at the 37 yd line line meanwhile Jones throw pulled in by Robinson here and he's going to get this down near the 20 yd line another first down as they call his number again he's got 15 yds here those are the types of plays they probably wish they had made more of in the first three quarters and this deficit going to be tough to overcome here in the fourth but a nice first down and a pickup on that throw yeah and this is where as coaches you're looking for effort and execution even though the scoreboard is going against you you want to find out who's going to fight who's going to scrap who's going to keep their heads up and continue to play again he'll drop to throw not only did he have a chance to scan the field there felt like he had a chance to scan it twice the protection was that good unfortunately for him the coverage downfield equally good [Applause] so after the incompletion second and 10 from the [Applause] 22 operating from the gun Jones and it's caught and he doesn't quite make it taking it with it an eyelash dropped at the one a well executed 22 yd gain well I can put my defensive cap on right now and I know they're saying don't give up any big plays now they've controlled R this game throughout and all they want to do is see it through to the end I think they let their guard down a little bit with that last completion sometimes when you're trying not to give up bigger plays you don't react as fast as you should on other throws so no gain on the play and that'll set up second and goal well that was a simple throw and catch but even with that completion zero yards gained so they're behind schedule on down in distance I think they were hoping to get it to him he could make a man or two Miss but that window closed quickly throwing again on second Down Jones and that is caught he's got it for a giant touchdown jayen H hayatt there to make the grab and the Giants are finally into the end zone here in this fourth quarter I'm not sure win-win is the proper term here but it certainly felt like it they got the touchdown they needed but if I'm on the defensive side of the ball okay you got the touchdown but it sure took you a long time time yeah cuz offensively there you're probably hoping for a one to five playay drive that one ate up a little more time than they were hoping you're exactly right and if you have that one to five play drive you actually build up momentum and even more hope when they had to slog their way down field they got the touchdown but it's almost like ah yeah you know do feel right exactly [Applause] [Applause] so two scores down time definitely not an ally But Here Comes the onside kick and this is going to be recovered by the hands and that should just about put a Capper on this one they knew they needed a miracle they had to have that onside kick they didn't get it well as we knew even before they put the the toe to the leather on that one their chances of getting that done slim and none and I do believe we saw slim just leave the door didn't we we did indeed I think we're down to none and Washington going to come back out here to take over offensively and a few kneel Downs should just about do it now defensively they do have all three timeouts but very little reason to use them at this point line of scrimmage the 37 on First and 10 hand off to Robinson out of the shotgun and not a whole lot of room to operate there on the first down run he gets maybe three go have to imagine this will be on the ground as well as they come up second and seven he's going to get it again just looking to get forward and protect the ball now the Giants will use the second of their three timeouts as the clock's going to stop with 47 seconds to go in the [Applause] fourth the D can only stop it one more time as they take the knee the Giants going to burn their third and final timeout and as the two teams talk it over on their respective Sidelines we take a break Washington about to close this one out as they are down to a knee [Applause] down to a knee one more time and that should just about do it so it's Washington getting the victory here and you look back over the score sheet interesting a very clean game no turnovers by either side an absolute Rarity when we watch games now because defenses have put such an emphasis on taking the ball away well what we saw here was offense is spending their time saying look you know they're coming for it ball security is Paramount so they worked on that not just a week of practice but I'm sure all during training camp make sure when you have it tuck it away because danger lurks everywhere you turn so that's a wrap for Charles Davis I'm Brandon G and this has been a presentation of the NFL on EA Sports for more check us out at easports.com the commanders pick up the victory as we say so long from our nation's capital
