welcome everyone to Tucson Arizona Arizona Stadium where this red and blue crowd ready to Bear down with their wild cats there's nothing quite like a great rivalry matchup in college football the bitterness the intensity the lifetime of memories that will come as a result of what we're about to see in this one as we'll a from the Mountain West the New Mexico Lobos taking on the 16th ranked team in the land the Arizona Wildcat for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up and the Lobos will kick it away to start looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and the coverage team able to make the tackle the Wildcats offense will get the first swing of the game these rivalry games can really get the blood pumping and we'll see who can manage their emotions best early everyone's been waiting for this game right you know both of these teams have had this game circled all the way back to the beginning of the off SE so you got to be able to play Under Control with passion with energy with hatred because it's a rivalry game but keep your emotions in check and make sure I'm controlling what I can control they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 they'll ride the running back and leave it with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they're trying to run the football there's just nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside he tried to bounce it to the outside that linebacker way too fast met him there and forc the tfl after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 back to throw it's faf finds his big tight end excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down see I like this tight end because he's not just running flat routes and little stick routes and drags this guy can get vertically down the field he showed you his speed there running the Crosser and the wild cats getting set on First and 10 out of the gun the running back has it and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David in a game like this just goes way up and I think managing the emotions in these typ of games you know last year was a classic now you're trying to form this year's identity of this team and go out and get a win in a big time rivalry game he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short yeah and what a good job by the defense the objective number one in the passing game get pressure on the quarterback get hits because those hits Palmer they add up don't they they do and for this quarterback he's going to have to do a really good job moving forward of not seeing ghosts and letting those hits you're talking about start to affect him that won't be the last time he gets hit in this game this running for the tap and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early motion from the offense to the ground he's got it again and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown Arizona and they just keep feeding it to their Workhorse back to open this game great job in the open field he's got tremendous Vision he can make people miss you saw all of that on display here in the opening drive lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game 76 yd on the drive for the touchdown and the Capper on that drive the 10y touchdown run they're just about ready to kick it away just into the end zone and he'll bring it out stopped at the 17 and he's probably second guessing that return so New Mexico's offense will get the ball for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this week no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football defense was prepared and I'm really impressed by the eye discipline right now that's not easy to do it's not easy to locate that receiver coming across in motion with good timing and getting the Jet Sweep but they were ready for that play after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 coming after and the pressure gets him back at the eight yd line defense came on the field with fresh legs and here on just the second play of the drive they're able to get a sack not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long back up inside their 20 looking to throw and he needs a chunk play going deep oh he gets down field for the Big Catch and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more than 30 yard down the field before he's finally stopped that last chunk play is one that'll really put a drive on the move it's first and 10 from the 43 they'll give it to the back and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just of Midfield at the 49 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you could run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and four to the air it's Danier and they got him he'll get him down for the sack how nice is it as a defense when you can drop seven guys in a coverage only Rush four and still get home that makes you feel good if you're the de coordinator they've got a good chunk of ground to cover on Third and long from the [Applause] 41 from the gun wants to pass quick strike complete boy did he look as if he was going to go gets it down to the 37 hard work pays off Guys these offenses work so hard week in we out working on those critical down and distances third downs and having that conversion this early in the game that's got to feel good for this offense the lobal look to keep this drive [Applause] humming out of the gun the inside K and they're able to shove him to the as they stop him for a short game I know you want to prepare for every game the same way but there's just something different about rivalry games Jesse it's because Rees I think players are aware that games like this Define your legacy as a player your record in rivalry games is something that people are going to talk about for years and years down the road you have got to show up and play your best football in games like this and there was no space nowhere to go play went absolutely nowhere sometimes you just need a dude to show up and make a play and he did sometimes you just need to block that dude and they didn't this will be the eighth play of the drive but a great opportunity for the defense to get off the field fires to the wide out it's caught down field finally run out of bounds but he has this off rolling with a first down well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this off needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression using his legs it's Henry they make the stop but you can't give up four yards a chunk on the ground down in this area of the field it's at the 18 solid pick up of four on first down it's second and [Applause] six and off from the shotgun nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car and a great job by the linebacker you could tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss let's see what they've dialed up on Third and long from the 22 to throw it's dampier unloads to the wide out the end zone touchdown Loos and what a ni start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic right down the middle they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and the scoring comes on a touchdown pass from 22 yds out all tied up and just about set to kick it away from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Arizona has it back the offense coming out to Bear down from the gun running back on the move they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward eight yd pick up on first down leaves them with second and short trying play action got it in the middle it's McMillan and he unleash the M on that pass man this sophomore has an arm I know we're a long way up here in the booth but guys y'all remember that ball you could throw that whistled that thing was whistling it had so many RPMs on it they've got it at the 36 it's a first and 10 from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your off up in a good spot after the productive first down play it's second and six grab behind the line it's Reed brought to the ground but not before getting enough for the first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding it Blitz and not just that Blitz but knowing whether it's man coverage or Zone coverage behind the blitz You' still got to know where your answer is going to be based on what the defense is doing in the back end and he add the answer to the test right there from the gun the ground game really putting together a threat now they get the first it's at the 37 first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense a run up the middle is stuck for No Gain well you love to see that from the defense right it's like Ben don't break they've given up a bunch of plays on this drive but now that they're getting down close to field goal range you're seeing them start to stiffen up there yeah and plays don't matter matter anymore yards don't matter all that matter with these defenses nowadays is points and limiting them to the ground with the back little too soft in that run defense he picks up four to the 32 this will be the seventh play of the drive and they need to third and six wide receiver coming across in motion on third down he drops to throw working that left side and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they able to cover him throughout the rest of this game in the red area it's Conley bir his way ahead for about three it's down at the eight going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone they go to the ground and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge great team defense on that run play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D linemen staying in their gaps linebackers and DBS filling you just can't do it better the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first scoring feeling some heat it's complete and the Defense Forces him to step out at the three man and that's just making it way too easy on the defense they're laughing at that short throw they're like really okay we'll just make an easy tackle and jawar punt return team out on the field you're going to make it that easy for us they're going to go for it on fourth down with a couple of good options a first down or a touchdown they'll try it on the ground and he takes it in for score touchdown Wilds wow this offense they have a lot of faith in this running back knowing if they get down this area of the field he can get it and he can answer the Bell two rushing touchdowns for this off they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and Clos the deal with a three- yd touchdown run kickoff team has the ball teed up in they're about ready to go and will just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 now New Mexico will go back to work on offense from the gun they'll try to impose their will he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage boy there wasn't much room to wiggle for that running back there none at all great job by the defense getting in the back field quickly closing up all the holes nowhere they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 out of the gun to give to the back Forge is ahead picks up about three to the 29 now that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the road Ball's at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long looking for a man it's Danier starts to collapse he took a hit as he threw it and couldn't deliver the football it's incomplete and fourth Down's coming and this QB already in the first quarter has taken some serious punishment got sacked a bunch got hit a bunch he's been he's been targeted a lot this offense needs to find some answers before we're going to be looking at his backup playing some serious snaps fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way looking for a block it's McMill he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yardage he could on the punt return Arizona sending the offense onto the field they'll run it out of the shotgun that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down from the shotgun the hand off to the back creating some space getting just enough good blocking and they've got it up to the 47 yd line and runs like that are like body blows and a boxing match four five sixy gains early turn into 20 30 40 yard gains later they really wear down defenses and they test their [Applause] physicality they will try to run for it looks as if Arizona will have enough to move the chains offensively are you going to take four to six every play yes please sign me up for that I'm going to take that every single time great job by the offense staying patient staying true to who they are you want to run the football you want to be physical you want to establish yourself check check check and the wild cat will snap it on First and 10 they've got him looking run now they're going to throw it snap in the middle it's Reed and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage both teams made no secret they wanted to Target their big play receivers and they've done just that in the first lots of time left and we ready to get back to it and open the second [Applause] period the give out of the gun he get it down to the 35 before he stopped 10yd pick up on the play and it's a first down another good run man he has been picking up yards in bunches today Jesse showing off all the skills and he's showing no signs of slowing down David this guy just gets better as the game goes on he is a beast the wild cats have offense in high gear looking down field it's faf finds the tight end and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few must be nice for this quarterback knowing he's got this type of athlete playing the tight end position that can work the middle of the field form he's a guy who can stretch it vertically as well but this is a guy the QB will look for early and often in this game that completion leaves us with second and [Music] [Applause] medium leaves it with the back stop is made at the 22 a 10yd pick up and a first down just outside the Red Zone and that last run is just a nice job seeing the hole exploding through it he has had a heck of a night now with that carry over a 100 yards on the game that's the mark you really want to hit as a running back and he's got that here tonight looking to go up top on first down got it behind the line it's Reed and the defense coming with bad intentions they knock him down for a loss well we knew coming into this one the tight end was a big part of this offense and you've seen it early in this game they've moved him around they've thrown it to him in a lot of different ways defense is going to have to make some adjustments trying to stop this guy hand off from the gun they'll pick up five it'll be third and five listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what ho to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down Arizona will try to pay off this Red Zone trip keep it on the ground and they're able to get a third down stop here see if they go for it on Fourth yeah and that's a really good job by the defense because when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing both got it stopped now forcing a fourth down they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down good right down the Boulevard and now the lead is even bigger so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 let's see what the Lobos offense has in store they are trailing by here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fastpaced now you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you keep being aggressive and now on second down for this offense and he drops it just took his eye off of it at the last minute tell you what that was a lightning fast decision you could tell he knew what he wanted to do right away makes the decision but maybe his footwork wasn't a little bit good and the pass wasn't where he wanted to put that thing I know that ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short they'll try to get the first through the air makes a connection ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds that's a beautiful pass and catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the defense with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his receiver more room to work as R and the Lobos have it with a first and 10 from the gun the running back has it they'll pick up four second and Six coming small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six wants to throw it's dampier shoots it to the left he's got an open man and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up and when you get Zone coverage and you're running curls and the wide receiver Sprints off the ball you know what happens that DB starts to bail and that wide receiver comes back and it's easy pitch and catch for the offense the Lobos are moving quickly down the [Applause] field run in the Red Zone it's Henry and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's looking to throw almost had the completion just missed it looked like the offense had a chance for a big play there but the running back just could not reel that ball in tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can pick up a first down without scoring third down they'll try to get it through the air makes the grab they'll get him stopped just of the end but they're in here with a first down so nice when you're an offense and you get in these third in shorts and you know the defense has to be aggressive has to commit guys up front especially the Red Zone area nice job by this offense slipping in the pass getting rid of the football setting up a first and goal they'll run it and the defense Stuffs the run and the ball will remain at the two how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions can the defense stop him again on second and goal tries again to get it in just hammer it with this running back again and he knowses his way into the end zone well well well somebody's been doing their box jumps you ain't lying getting up in the air Hey listen I'm taking a picture of that saving it that might be my screen saver on my phone that vertical way up in the air P unit on the field and with the extra point they close it to a 1714 [Applause] game so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty they're lining up to kick it off and he ought to be able to knock this one anywhere he wants after that extra 15 yard with the roughing the kicker no shot to return that one as he boomed it out of the back of the end zone a first down for the offense he's looking to throw it and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 good job by the defense dropping in zone coverage all eyes on the quarterback taking away the options and then finally the pass rush gets home gets him on the ground so let's see if they can make up for that loss on second down from the 18 out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game they come to the line facing third and long from the 25 they'll go right back to him at the 35 he's got room and they drag him down but not before he picks up the down there's really no secret to it David when this guy's running well this offense is so hard to stop it opens up everything and he's having a great day showing you a little bit of everything and this offense has got it rolling on the ground the wild cats have it with the first and 10 Ed the play fake now to throw got a in it's Reed really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down and this has got to be so demoralizing for this defense right now having given up multiple first downs on this drive somebody on defense has to step up make a play and stop the B Arizona has the offense humming set up with another first down leaves it with the back and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up it's the emmo of this offense and they really put a lot on the offensive line to go out and really try and establish their dominance and their assertiveness and they've done a good job of that early in this game running the football after the productive first down play it's second and six back to throw it's faf the middle aftering the catch my old coach said don't never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain now this defense could really use a stop on third down as the offense has had its way they'll run the option and the ball is free on the pitch that looks like a really easy thing to do oh the ball's just on the ground jump on it that's an odd shaped ball that bounces all kind of crazy ways great job on the defense covering that thing up one step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game on second down he'll let it fly and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit well that's just a great play by the defender and great it was the hit that forced that incomp they'll try to move the chains on this third and long from the 50 gives it to the back on the draw what a nice job on the ground working his way ahead for seven yard and leaving them with fourth and short they're about two yard away and the Lobos send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he came so close to pinning them deep but maybe just a little too greedy tried to get it too close and it'll come out to the [Applause] 20 wants to throw on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there is second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they' throw it again he'll do it himself they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle St what a great first step he shot right through the offensive line and got the tfl you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking to throw it's faf and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line just a great job defensively making him go through his progressions and he really didn't have time to do it and that's exactly what you do in zone coverage you dring your spots you read the quarterback's eyes make sure you take away that quick stuff and a great job rushing the passer and getting the sack the wild cats will have to send out the punt team doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt that's usually Prime return position but he'll make the fair catch just outside the 40 we will get another look at this New Mexico offense last time David it was one two three kick last drive that three and out sometimes that put your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable in that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels halfway there on first down it's second and five the playaction fake throws to the wide out complete downfield he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down when you're throwing these comeback routes man the timing has got to be so good between the two of them because you know the ball is going to be in the air a long time you can't throw it late it's going to get picked that time really nice job getting it out early and the receiver doing a nice job on his route so that the ball was right on him as soon as he turned around excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away yeah and a really good job by the defender understanding the ball's coming I got to break on it and go and not try to intercept it and make a bad play he swats it down and make sure that's an incompletion after the incompletion let's see if they go back to the air on second and 10 from the 33 back to pass it's Danier get it out on the screen they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some Lan for their running back hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screen and behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play they make the stop after a pick up of three just inside the red zone at the 19 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs got three on first down it's second and seven they'll run it from the gun dropped after a pick up of four down to the 16 well that didn't bust for a long one but now third down becomes very manageable it's not third in eternity now the whole Playbook long passing game all of it's available third down after the [Applause] run they'll try to run for it didn't get much picked up a yard and that will lead them with fourth and two out the kicker [Applause] here never doubt and with the field goal we are tied here in the second quarter and we're all square as he set to kick it away and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 Arizona has it back the offense coming out bear down power football with the Run that's the kind of play that can really get you going as they get it out to the 36 and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mark Bill snap it from the 36 they've got a first down he wants to throw grabbed in the middle it's Reed they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing game whatever the fastest Tempo they have is that's what they'll use looking to move it through the air getting some heat and they got him for the sack the offense calls a timeout to stop the clock and nice answer by this defense you give up a big play you go take a big play sometimes you get down on yourselves and one play turns to two nice job by this defense getting a sack creating some momentum grabbed over the middle it's McMillan they make the stop but not before takes chunk out of what they need to move the sticks and that is exactly where the football was supposed to go offensive coordinators call drag routes anticipating man coverage even though the ball's only traveling two three four yards down the field if the receiver is able to get a rub and create some separation and the quarterback hits him in stride that little completion that can turn into a 20 30 yd gain can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard noos pass defense and now it's Fourth Down is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play Arizona runs out the punt te this will be the second time they've had to kick it away able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 let's see what the Lobos offense has dialed up this time trying to start the drive with a pass the quick out and good coverage by the defense just a short gain this is a very tough slot receiver to cover if you're a linebacker because of how quick and how Shifty he is he never seem to know which way he's going and he always seems to create an open space for his QB picked up some yardage with that completion now second down dropping back it's Danier trying to burn this defensive back makes to grab on the left found a bunch of room and got it to the 44 yd line the offense will have to use its first time out of the half just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime going up top on first down throws for the tight ends it in they'll use a timeout right before halim maybe time for one or two more plays the Lobos have it with a first and 10 from the Red Zone looking for a space got his man in the middle we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays and here on second down they'll send out the field goal unit to try to get three before the break didn't make him sweat at all it's good and with that field goal they now have the lead well you love to see that right they put themselves in a position at the end of the half to take the lead they put it on their kicker he knocks it through the upright so nothing but good vibes for this team now with the lead heading in at half time so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer here he comes from inside his own five he'll be brought down and that's the final play of the half that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halime update thanks so much guys and I need not tell you rivalry games always bring out a ton of emotion and no surprise we saw just that in the first half today and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most that said let's get back to the field and our guys in the booth to see who comes out on top of this rivalry contest and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yard line now New Mexico will go back to work on offense they start this third quarter with the lead but they might want to think about Shoring up that protection yeah the good news is you're you're leading on the scoreboard the bad news is your quarterback doesn't feel like it because you can't protect him so David adjustments and pass protection that has to be something they were talking about here at halftime 100% just you can't get him hit that much still good job delivering the football but if you keep hitting the quarterback enough man they'll start to see ghost they'll panic and they'll make some of those mistakes and they'll come to the line just needing a few chain links for a first down looking to pass it's Danier fires to the big fella and they'll spot it at the 38 and that'll be plenty for the first down they saw that Blitz coming and the way to get out of it is find the tight end yeah how quick did he see that too sees the blitz understands this is a match up where I got my big tight end the big fella I trust I'm going to find that match up get him the football for the first down off the play fake on first down to throw and he's all bottled up and now it's worse the ball's loose man those are so frustrating when you're a defense and you swarm to the football you stick the quarterback and you make him cough it just to have the other team recover it again and you don't get it still a good stick still a good physical play keep hitting that quarterback the drive continues after that fumble scare sent the offensive coordinator's blood pressure into orbit trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here really nice job to squirt his way up to the 31 yd line it's a nice game but the big theme Here is they just haven't been able to get the Run game going on offense they've been very onedimensional they're just not being physical enough at the point of attack this is a third and long looking down field and he needs a bunch going to try to get it himself turns it on in Midfield Nifty Scamper on this one enough for the first down and he slides in safely I mean these quarterbacks nowadays can run so fast think about who you've got chasing him defensive Lin those big old defensive tackles defensive ends linebackers they can't catching because they're faster than them nowadays so much speed so much electricity now with these [Applause] guys he's got it down the middle and they pick up just a few on that completion man it helps you a lot when you can be a linebacker or a corner or some safety anybody and you see the QB throw the football now I can break on the football right away and limit gains like right here on this play stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again looking to throw it's dampier now he's going to break the pocket a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage the back end nowh for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on third down going up top throws to the tight end got him downfield nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down defense is about learning the plays third down what do they like to do how do they do it so far the offense having a little bit of success but the defense now you got to figure out what they're doing and the Lobos come to the line with a fresh set of downs they're looking to pass from the Red Zone moving away from pressure on the run and he'll slide to avoid the big hit Hey listen it's important at that position to be able to be good off schedule everything's easy when it's on get the ball out but when things break down and they get off schedule you got to have a guy back there that can make the right decisions he did exactly that operating in the Red Zone here on second [Applause] down give to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and when you play defensive end it's all about getting off the football you can tell gets off the football really fast Gets In The Back Field gets the running back before he knows what hit him what a play by the defensive end really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal on Third and short they'll ride the running back here third and two trying to be physical trying to win the battle up front almost there Palmer just short fourth and inches yeah and he was so disappointed he didn't pick up that first he's looking over to the sidelines right now asking for the ball again here on Fourth and this field goal team has been busy this kicker comes out for the third time tonight it's good well the head coach decided to play it safe on Fourth and inches and try his field goal team out there and his field goal kicker just made him look like a pretty smart guy so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away on the move from inside is five couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 Arizona sending the offense onto the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack them a negative play to open the Drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 fast from the offense looking down field it's faf unloads it left and he had it for a second but it just dribbled out of his hands we know this guy's a weapon not just taking handoffs but he can catch the ball too that play not so much got to do a better job reeling it in a third and long coming up here he's looking down field throw trying to get to him and the quarterback caught up two and sacked at the 12 when the offense goes empty that triggers the defense to want to Blitz the linebacker came that time they couldn't get him blocked and down goes the QB the wild cats will have to out the punt team three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch let's see what the Lobos offense has in store it's a settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they'd love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to the quarterback scrambled around but the defense able to scramble him and turn it into a sack I'm the offensive coordinat I'm thinking about chipping this defensive end with running backs I'm leaving my tight ends in to help this tackle because we cannot block him he's already got two sacks first down sack pushes it back now it's second down they go to the draw One Step WRA Two Step squeeze this junor knows how to get him on the [Applause] ground I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm they've got the screen set up defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fored down you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion whoopy Doo you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and Cate he'll bring it back it's McMill cover guys getting down to do their job and they'll stop him at the 15 Arizona has it back the offense coming out bear down give to the running back a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three how nice is it as a play caller when you've got a running back as good as this guy right I mean you can just dial up conservative run calls nothing has to be too tricky too fancy you just know he's going to go make good things happen even when it's not blocked properly he is still finding ways to rip off long runs this guy now has over 150 yards rushing in the game do look like he's slowing down guys gets it out to the 25 yd line a gain of three they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 25 wide out in motion little touch pass to the receiver they'll mark it down and that'll be enough for an Arizona first down hard earned yards man you got to get these first downs any way you can and sometimes it's not going to be easy and you can't just do it conventionally handing it off this offense is going to have to be creative football is a game of inches and you've just got to find the angles to give yourself an advantage that creative play call right there really helped them out coming out on first down with the play fake and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with the sack and you could easily argue the biggest reason this team is tring here in the second half is because they have not been able to protect their quarterback tonight they've already given up five sacks in the game and you just saw another one right there this offensive line has had problems all night long they'll try to put it in drive this time on second down from the 22 here's the hand off and he's a real no where man tackled in this no gain land awesome job up front by this defensive line being so good at the point of attack and eating blocks eating some double teams that allows these linebackers to run free unencumbered and get to the football this is a third and long looking to throw and he needs a bunch feeling the heat as he lets it Go and it's incomplete good play Down F by the DB and this is why this team is losing this game right now they cannot protect their quarterback he's already been sacked a bunch of times almost got sacked right there this guy doesn't have a chance with the way this offensive line is playing Arizona runs out the punt team he only needs a sliver of daylight returns like that are why you don't settle for the fair catch you don't to picks up just a little bit of yards to help out the O off the play fake on first down going to take a shot and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on second and 10 after the previous play [Applause] back to throw it's Danier using the quick game didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the slot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched up on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let him make plays on Third and long try to convert through the air he makes a catch he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense this quarterback obviously did a lot of film prep coming into this one he has been picking this defense apart with that last completion guys he's now got over 300 yards passing the Lobos come to the line with a new set of downs movement here from the tight end out of the shotgun they go to the ground a strong tack and wrap up from the Junior and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first after picking up a couple it's second and [Applause] eight he's looking to throw they're trying to get to it he's going to run it on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty up there he does a good job of dropping back going through his progressions nothing there what do I do go get some yardage make it positive don't sit back in the pocket and force something into a bad situation or take a sack great job making something out of nothing winding up to convert third down they'll try to pick up the first through the air gets it out quickly he's stopped quickly but not before he has enough for the first down defenses throughout the week study every third down situation you got to be ready for what they do how they do it and then be able to adjust great job by the offense so far having success and the Lobos have this offense rolling looking for a physical attack from the gun he make the stop but he got work done on the ground picking up six to the 23 yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting Drive the ball on first down on these running plays they're getting chunks of yardage got six on first down now a lot of options on second and [Applause] four it's a draw defense there to stop him at the 20 let's give him three yard on that carry IM manageable distance on third down as they try to convert from the 20 they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down yeah and I just need a crease I need you offensive lineman just like right here great job holding the point of attack don't let any penetration come in give me a little sliver and then you see the running back Palmer he'll do the rest lower his shoulder and make sure he gets the first down yeah means a this offense too to have a guy like this that always just seems to fall forward he always in the short yarded situations knows where that first down marker is and he's able to get those hidden yards in piles driving his legs to help keep this drive alive every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there the Lobos line it up with a first and goal he'll put the tight end in motion they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal he'll pick up three before he's down at the six now the offense tries to punch it in on second and goal he'll run it to the the middle looking for the End Zone he pushes it forward all the way to the two yd line and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this little third to midrange you got two downs what are you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a b they've gotten right on the cusp of the end zone they still need two yards will they try to bang it in with a run or go over the top oh and he dropped it had a touch down right in his hands and couldn't hang on it'll be fourth [Applause] down this field goal unit getting some serious run they've already been out there three times a kicker will try it again and he missed it no good guys still a Sixpoint game but a missed opportunity and that's just a chip shot that's just a field goal they got to make guys Arizona sending the offense onto the field their Drive chart is starting to look a little monotonous punt punt punt David and their defense is starting to get a little frustrated too oh look out there he goes and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it explosive picks up more than [Applause] 30 and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've [Applause] seen one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory now they'll try to cash in this drive first and 10 from the 50 he's going to pass throwing right and he dropped it just didn't look the thing all the way in man that's a big missed opportunity for the running back I'm trying to find ways to feature this guy and get him the football in space and not just hand it to him all the time and tell you what I'm a lot less likely to find those plays if he can't reel in those catches the incompletion brings up a second down the give to the running back from the shotgun really nice stop there from this senior leader if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum back to pass it's faf fires to the wide out is complete ripping through the defense and getting it all the way down to the 24 yd line there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football game Arizona in a hurry wide receiver now comes in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts us to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only allamerican in this booth David if I were allowed to put have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the outside nice job by the defense staying glued to him getting him on the ground as soon as he catches the football knowing he's a threat I'm not going to let this guy get out of my sights nice job by the D quite a bit of work to do on third down from the 23 and this D would love to force a field goal try running back searching for a hole they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and you can tell that play went nowhere from the start that was definitely a great play by that Defender oh yeah he got the back field so quick the running back had absolutely no chance so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it's good and that's massive all the pressure on your defense now you've made the field goal you got to get the ball back you need one more kick that's what you need and so the defense has to be ready to take the field right now play with intensity play with energy and get it back to the offense quickly after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it [Applause] away here's the return from inside 10 really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 we will get another look at this New Mexico offense fires to the tight end and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one that's catch by the big Target those big tight ends you can tell in football just becoming more and more of a weapon on every single team after that last comption second down looking to throw it's Danier keeps it himself and gets the first those Defenders were seeing red the quarterback felt it and got down quickly nice job by the QB sitting back in the pocket you can tell he wants to throw the football go through his progressions nothing home take off and slide I love the slide at the end don't take a big shot with the first down they'll put it in play from the 33 on the run it's Henry he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so you get stuffed on first down you had an idea of what you wanted to do on second but I'm guessing it's back to the drawing board now you got to figure out who you are and what you are uh what's your next best play or what is the defense going to do they've been aggressive okay if they've been aggressive throw that deep ball if they've been sitting back I might sneak a draw in you pretty good job of running to get two there to the [Applause] 32 now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass looking left and it's incomplete on third down and that is a stting possession for this offense you wanted to run the football maybe take some time you did the opposite got in a bad situation threw the football stop the clock not how you manage a game late in the fourth quarter and the Lobos will punt it away on fourth down he'll try to really get into this [Applause] one running it back it's McMillan he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot line gets set first [Applause] down quick release on the RPO and the explosive play they're on the move all the way to the 44 and youve created some great momentum getting the stop forcing the punt now getting it back to your offense your offense starting to get in a Groove late in the game you need some big plays you just wonder how much Panic there is right now in the defensive side of the football too because of what you just said David they can feel and sense the momentum leaving them right now with the lead so someone defensively better step up here soon and make a play from the gun they'll try to impose their running game they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create because why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down they'll leave it with him and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anywhere probably need to pick up a few yards from here it would be a 62 yd attempt dropping back it's faf fires to the middle and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop so the officials take a closer look and the replay Booth will overturn the call going with the counter play here you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down after the three- ydd pickup they come to the line Second and seven wide receiver shows motion quick pass on the Fly motion tackled but he has a first down just went with something very easy very reliable Flip It Forward let your receiver do the rest I only got to get a few yards nice job nice execution first down Arizona going back to work with another first down he's looking to throw it pulls it in it's McMillan they'll get it down to the eight yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall and that's just a great individual effort by the wide receiver he catches this ball way short of the sticks but because he's able to make the defender missed now he's able to get the extra yards and turn that into an explosive play so the opportunity with they touchdown here to take a fourth quarter lead they'll use the running game on first and goal he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is reeling and down here near the goal line You' got to be physical and this guy's proven it today Palmer they've given it to him he's put it in the end zone twice already I'm going to keep featuring him so you know the defense is going to be keying him too right because he's hurting him a little bit in this game already they're going to be finding a way to try to get some penetration anticipating this guy to touch it again and he never had a chance just sto cold as soon as he got it the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my speeder in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss that's it fly touchdown Arizona and they've moved out front here in the fourth and some of these guys make it look so easy but these are tight windows down here man there's not a lot of space in the field and he drops back knows exactly where he's going with the football throws it in there makes the play and more importantly now his team is in the lead in the fourth quarter he'll try to tack on one more and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive looking for a productive play on first down the give to the back into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine the inside hand off defense there to stop him after a gain of one to the 22 [Applause] they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here scanning the field it's Danier he looks that one in nicely and you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowaday will try to pin them back with the punt they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today on the return it's McMillan makes a move that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt Arizona has it back the offense coming out to Bear Down they'll go to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well this guy's been eating them alive all game long finally though David you wonder if the def has been able to make some adjustments and find something positive to help slow this guy down hey baby steps right that's a tackle for a loss I know he's got over aund on the game but this defense is definitely going to have to be more aggressive commit more guys to stopping that bad man on second down he's looking down field catch in the middle it's Murphy and he was just a couple of steps away from taking that one even further after the catch you got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down now across the 50 and at the 48 yd line they'll have it first and 10 they're bringing heat quarterback needs to make a better throw there incomplete after the misfire now on second down from the gun running back gets the give he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three yeah it's a nice job by this defense obviously backed up against it time running out got to get the football back two good plays now third down I stay aggressive have to come after him if they decide to throw the football so be it but aggressive get that football back for your offense on Third and long you'll need to push it down field had to get rid of it quickly and they fail to hook up on third down and this is why you don't want to get in these situations third and long defense knows its pass they're playing past playing deep QB has nowhere to go with the football so he just throws it away the wild cats will have to send out the punt team they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today another punt on the way got to make sure those hammies and glutes all activated don't want any muscle pulls from overuse let's see what the Lobos offense has dialed up this time the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum they've got a first and 10 at the [Applause] 34 they'll run it from the gun that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down got three on first down and second and [Applause] seven to the air it's dampier swings it out to the flat and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up they were able to make the completion but he had to pick his way for just a little bit needed a little more help to Spring him for some yardage yeah if you're going to have success when you throw it outside like that you're going to need some more blocking and better blocking Dage down field give the defense credit though they were able to rally and made a tack trying to move the sticks on third down through the air got the Quick Pass and they're getting it rolling with that play to the 42 yd line well the defense just has not had an answer for this guy working out of the slot so far man coverage has been tricky he's beaten them in zone you might want to think about bracketing him where you've got a defender on the outside and the inside to see if you can force the quart go somewhere else with the ball they'll throw it on first down Dan is way to BU time and he has a solid gain on the play before sliding yeah I think you're just seeing the experience this guy has right he's so poised that initially he's flushed out of the pocket nothing's open and he doesn't panic he's not throwing it away he's not sliding early he just knows where the defense isn't he's able to attack that space with his speed and get a positive play dialing up a second down pass play and he just flat dropped it I think he wanted to run before he secured it man he was open he had an opportunity just got of look that thing a lot of time guys are catching it and as they're catching it you see their head start to turn to try to think about getting up field they just lose that concentration for a second little missed opportunity there for this offense snap it to the back can't get him to the ground tough sliding in there picks up a couple but still needs two more on fourth down and I think this offense ran the football knowing it's in fourth down territory it's Fourth and short it's go time almost near Midfield to me this is green light I got to stay aggressive I'm losing but the situation favors me in fourth and short down late in a fourpoint game they'll keep the offense on the field on fourth down direct snap [Applause] how about that defense rising up and stopping him short on fourth down they've got the Big Fellas out there a three tight end look on First and 10 they'll run the ball the clock is on their side defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their [Applause] offense at this point the defense has little choice but to sell out to stop the run on second and seven from the shotgun now here's an inside G quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense this is a big pressure moment for the offense too because they've got the lead but it's now third down on their own side of the field they would love nothing more than to be able to convert this stay on the field keep bleeding the clock but the defense I'd expect them to bring pressure here trying to force the ball out of the QB's hands quickly Arizona runs out the punt team here's the fair Catch and he'll make it close to the 20 yd line now New Mexico will go back to work on offense these are the games these are the moments this is the opportunity for the Finish that people remember in rivalries like this one and those highlights that are shown for years and years to come these Big Time moments Palmer coming down to the wire who steps up and makes a big time play and this is why you lift the weights in the off seon this is why you do all the GS and all the Sprints for moments like this game on the line in one of the biggest games of the year he wants a big play here late oh the Freshman lucky that one didn't get picked off well I know it hasn't been a tremendous day statistically for this quarterback but his decision making has been good enough to win this game hasn't thrown a lot of TD so far but when things aren't open he throws it away like on that play right there he's not putting his team in a bad spot and that's why they still have a shot to walk out of here with a W and that pass is intercepted and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception aggressive versus re such a fine line when you're trailing and you need to make plays late in the game the offense was Reckless turn the football over and this one doesn't look [Applause] great here's this offense with a fresh set of downs and the quarterback takes a knee for
