just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it's going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today 32 that one misses so a lead off walk leading off the afternoon for Texas next up for Texas Josh Smith Smith and the righty deals and the two- on hammered but foul runner at first with no outs here [Applause] and no throw for some reason as he reaches first that's got to be an error Josh Smith with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does it kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here so next to hit for Texas Wyatt Langford hammered on the line base hit coming around third is Simeon he will score and they take the lead one nothing so he gets two miles stones with that hit his first big leak knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an it bad he's never going to [Applause] forget and now here is adolis Garcia the pitch swing and a ball hit out towards left center field McCarthy makes the catch Runner tagging and heading for home it's a sack fly as he comes across to score and they lead by two well that's a quality at bat right there you know the situation you need something in the air and deep enough and that's exactly what he did good pass to the baseball here's Nathaniel low man at first one away and that gets the top of the zone for a strike so now three and two back to the mound and hit him safe at first and now after the play we'll check on the right-hander status Nathaniel low with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here so first and second with one man gone here's Josh Young right side he's got it tags up from second and he'll head to third Carrol quickly throws it in and it forces him to hold up at third base and now we take a look at the Rangers lineup and down towards the bottom of the lineup hitting eighth here Carson Kelly well these days we know teams you know they put a game plan together for every hitter in a lineup but a guy like this they Circle him make sure he doesn't beat you uh so you know they put in a little extra time and effort and on how they're going to approach him he can be a huge difference maker when he's hot so and a foul ball left [Applause] side yeah good solid contact right there just to bit out in front of that fast got to try to stay on that backside just a little bit longer and see if he can do some damage this one in the air center field tracks it down for the out and that is that but two runs for them and they jump ahead bottom half of inning number one coming up it's the Rangers two and the Dbacks coming up back here at Chase Field and starting this one Chase Anderson and singing a special day for him he's making his major league debut here and I'm sure he's got some nerves he'll be excited for that first pitch to be in and over with so that he can settle in to pitching just like he did in the minor leagues exciting moment he's got his family in town I think This Moment's going to be a huge tone Setter for his career we go to the bottom of the first and stepping in is the Speedy Corbin Carroll looking for his first big league hit right here over to low one up one down time to take a look at the Diamondbacks lineup this is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks Chris so we'll probably see a very patient approach from them yeah booie and that's often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored you get guys on base you work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers and then you take advantage when they make mistakes you get into that bullpit you can tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack a lot of patience just like you said Anderson he's become known as a guy that's really tough to take deep and that is especially valuable today Chris when the ball's going out of the ballpark so much that misses the zone and the counts even a two it's very important it's all about run prevention right so uh when you have that it's a plus but if you are going to give up the long ball you want the bases to be empty and that's where control and command really comes into play for a guy like this no trouble here puts it away for the out two down left two outs Bas is empty here's the left fielder Jack Peterson two outs Bas is [Applause] empty and that one a little little below the knees three and [Applause] one right through there for a strike [Applause] helpful the rander gives up the two out walk one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so all down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it it's no surprise they call this batter a day player he statistically performs better in these games and he's hoping for a big performance in this one on to Simeon and that is the inning so no runs on no hits no errors and a runner left on to the second inning here in the desert it's the Rangers two and the Diamondbacks nothing back here in the desert second inning set to go and now the batter is Carson Kelly and a swinging to miss sing he wasn't very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn't able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah boo he wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious where adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches he's going to need to figure it out quickly and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up KS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strike out is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further one down base is empty chases the fast up the ladder struck him out thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fast balls in that location hitter especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger two down but on late on that fast B the strong second inning is a confidence builder for him a relief for his manager doesn't have to get into that Bol but quite as early two outs comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt that completes the strike out and that'll do it so they go quietly there we go to the bottom of inning number two it's the Rangers two and the Diamondbacks nothing we head to the bottom of the second and now here's a speed threat outfielder Jake McCarthy righty delivers foul ball there rightand her kick steals that's ball have we seen an early at bat change the course of a game it happens every night in baseball and maybe it happens again here here McCarthy the lead runner at second Suarez over at first with one away this is a good chance to tie up this ball game see if he can find some open grass in the Outfield and they're all loaded up so back to the top of the Arizona lineup Corin Caroll stands in now for the Diamondbacks kicks and fires there's the strike so all three runners will be off with the Full Count pitch for two away yeah this is a good chance to tie this ball game up maybe even take the lead if they can get something deep into the Gap in the Outfield two outs bases are full him huge strike out there Diamondbacks leave him loaded they Trail things here two nothing and welcome back to the ballark on to the third inning and the batter will be the short stop Josh Smith the one to one inside well these Rangers showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one they're doing a good job of working the pitch count and they've been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well at the belt and FES that's inside and now it's three and two still relatively early but with the pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game and down on strikes he goes looks like he's picked up right where he left now the left fielder Wyatt [Applause] Langford and another ball they chis through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this [Applause] game and he deals in the air left side Peterson drifts towards it makes the catch for the out it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their Bullpen two lead a new pitcher in the game Cody Bradford still pretty early in the ball game so this Bullpen has some work ahead of him best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him paven Smith stands in now for the Diamondbacks the first Smith the wi of the pitch swings and misses and the count one and two [Applause] battling and in right there and typically if you're going to have a chance with the pitch if it's down that's your best chance of doing anything with it it's kind of like a mini slider just with a little less right-handed reliever swings through that good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand so good and then by the time he getss in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it B is empty one away field lford reaching back towards the wall pulls it in and the warning track now back left fi J Peterson and Jack Peterson stands in you know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher what you tell yourself is I want to stay Square to the plate try to hit the ball over the short Stop's head looking to get the tying run on base and another ball he really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the Zone he knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone it gets hit hard by a power guy like this that's a nice Miss right there and that's a base hit joh
