just about set to go and for the Cardinals here this afternoon it's miles michelas and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position and most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout the pitch just off the outside edge and it's a ball and a strike foul ball there here's a batter who for whatever reasons plays better on the road and that should help him here today spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another flew open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch keep theive got him looking for the K and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers can sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up KS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further the pitch and there's a ball one and one and to count one and two to tie a guy up like that you're feeling like you are in command one down base is empty right side hard hit gets it to First quick start to this afternoon's action to gone here's David Bell's lineup for the Cincinnati Reds this is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks Chris so we'll probably see a very patient approach from them yeah booie and that's often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored you get Runners on base you work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers and then you take advantage when they make mistakes you get into that bullpit you can tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack a lot of patience and today's starting pitcher Jake junis what should we keep an eye on here well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side Mason wi the lead off batter as he looks at ball [Applause] one there's a swinging a Miss wow no fair right there I mean that slider didn't move till the very last moment incredibly difficult to pick that up just kind to have to tip your cap on that [Applause] [Music] pitch and base hit so a man on base to start the inning runs batted in doing damage on on the regular man making opposing pitchers just sweat out there it's kind of fun to watch get ready for a show when he steps into the box checks over to First back bottom half of in number two now it's the second Bas Jose Fair the line to the pitch and he lays down a bun and he bare hands it nicely done for the out well I think the defense was anticipating something here because they were really ready to defend as that ball was put down nice little draag BNT but they get the out way to go now batting Micha siani good Defender he's been inconsistent [Applause] offensively that misses ball one right through there for a strike looks like he's just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns on and a swinging to miss good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it and now it's even up that's a really good take right there slider down and in very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with one down base is empty bals that off to the left and will do it again and a pitch just missed really good take especially with two strikes ripped on a line pulls it down and there's two [Applause] gone now now it's pitch single and have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter rander kick Steals and down on strikes he goes and good work there as he gets a one two three nothing doing there for St Louis but attemp popped up stretches out and holds it in well he gave the bun a shot there but not able to yeah I think he rushed it a little bit and when guys Rush can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player there the batter now Spencer steer and that one wrapped foul steer getting to start in left hitting lead off in today's game and he was a third round pick back in 2019 that one out first hit at the big league level you can feel the extra attention on Ellie anytime he comes to the plate this guy's a player that keeps you on the edge of your seat because you don't know what he's going to do next he can hit for power steals bases he can throw the ball 100 Mil hour across Le take off pitching for a strike save it second and that was not close High throw may have made the difference right there it's kind of hard to say though it's a little tougher for a catcher with a left-handed hitter in the box and that hitter does not have to move at all to help you out he just got under the throw and it took off on him a little bit and the pitch the short stop takes the ball one ball two strikes count next pitch is outside it's a good [Applause] take man it's second on the ground to the left orado to First in time got him good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hitter to roll over up cincin the catch and here's the catcher Tyler Stevenson and he's already singled in this game that's out to center field SE pulls it down and that is that so one left for Cincinnati they Trail it here two [Applause] nothing ready to go for the last half of the inning and now the DH Alec burlson Al burs get out junis back to work and first off ring is fouled [Applause] off late swing fouled to the left [Applause] righty delivers up and in now one and two outside to Third on to France lead off man retired here in the third the ble the first B Paul gold now it's gold Schmid up to the plate singled and scored his first time and a foul [Applause] ball hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch account he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game outside low and that's ball three it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressive that one is absolutely beled in one Off the Wall should be extra basis Here Comes Goldie around third throw is up line and he scores and they lead by three puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI welld deserved double on a great swing got everything going on time he stay balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly [Applause] ask one out runner at second now here is Lars nbar bounce to the left side throws across the diamond now two out now Patt catcher Ivan Herrera and now the Cardinals catcher Ivon Herrera one for one with a single so [Applause] far that's a strike when you're struggling out there on the mound hitters know that there'll be plenty of opportunities within the bat to try to get something to hit hard runner at second two down here in the last half of the third just [Applause] missed center field sizes this one up no trouble here puts it away for the out and the inning is over cards on the board with this double it's now 3 nothing you're watching Major League Baseball on the show as we go to the top of the fourth and now the center fielder TJ Fredo the W to kick the pitch down the middle for a strike one one well these Reds as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases that are turning into to a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the Zone we'll see but I think they have to one ball and now one and two that one missed he's been pitching well but we'll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order we'll know if he's got really good stuff in this one or not struck him out looking frustrating end to the atat for the hitter and I'm sure that's going to on him for a little while you want to be ready to hit the fast sometimes you can first pitch misses for ball one well these Reds just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game chasing pitches has been a big part of the story we've seen it quite a bit today it's been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn't look like they're seeing it very well as a group fall off foul and on the mound you know confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses he's had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game and another ball one stri [Applause] at the belt and fires that one fouled off two and two pretty good pitch there to take a rip at he wants to get his arms extended he likes the ball away from him a little bit just not able to square it up to the right side to Second for one not in time at first it's a fielder's Choice well he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ball good execution now the third baseman he popped out his first [Applause] time swinging a foul straight back this is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball's got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they're going to have a chance to go for a double play Michael throws the first Rosario back in standing base runner with a one-way lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher move had no intent of stealing on that pitch on that fast for third play situation here he's been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch that's off the Inside Edge one and two the count got him looking and he didn't like the call so back to the top of the Red's lineup now the left fielder Spencer steer one for [Applause] two looked like it was a little bit up [Applause] pass through there for a strike the Reds traing by three and we're at the top of the [Applause] fifth that's a little bit low really close pitch down around the knees there and you could see him asking where it missed probably doesn't agree but it appears he's ready to move on to the next pitch two outs there's a swing and a drive that's back there hits the fence coming home he'll score and it's now a two-run game now [Applause] stepping in Ellie De La [Applause] Cruz that one close rule the ball and that's ball one one man on second two down swing and a high fly ball down the left field line but hooking [Applause] foul and here it comes swing in a miss and the count one two clearly was sitting on a FAS right there just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can't fault him for his commitment now he's just going to have to battle with two strikes he's got it and that'll do it run scoring double here for the Reds it's now a 3-1 ball game and we're back and now Mason wi s you talk about a guy that has all the skills the range is really good but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays and first off ring is fouled off and because of that big Power arm he's able to ble to play a little bit deeper make throws from The Outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner that's impressive and the right-hander deals Line Drive caught it's never fun going back to the Dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you've done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control and a foul [Applause] ball that one ripped and it gets into the corner but it's foul one out base is empty and one and [Applause] two that's toward Center and that'll fall for a base hit so they get a man aboard with the one out single Alec burlson with his first major league hit and this is the moment I'm know even if he gets the back to that ball it's probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side tell you what that's a tremendous two strike pitch arado in the Box again takes a [Applause] strike next offering misses and now it's even one and [Applause] one the pitch they tried to get him to chase on a slider down he's been trying to tease the Zone with that slider but these hitters have showed patience not going outside the strike zone the two one Del La Cruz they take the force out and that is that the cards leave one and the score stays three to [Applause] one all set for the top of the six in now for the Reds Tyler Stevenson St Stevenson measures 6' 4 in 27 years old a former first round pick back in 2015 and the righty deals on the ground to third sends it across the first and that's one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six now the center TJ and next will be the clean up hit TJ [Music] frel first pitch misses well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way he gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside play coverage face is empty one away and we're in the top half of the six swing and a miss that one in the dirt ow two away now after the drop third strike well he's on a great run of strikeouts and showing excellent control and command not walking opposing batters you know this offense they've got to find a way to break his rhythm put the bat on the ball maybe try to base hit get him off the M moving around step out something to interrupt his timing because he's coming right after these guys France in the Box here lets that one go for a [Applause] ball close one doesn't get the call two [Applause] and0 the pitch that one spoiled they count now two and one that's to third jump throw and that's a nice play to end the inning three up three down for him there we go to the bottom half of inning number six and the 56 s slots do up it's the Cardinals three and the Reds one now on the bump Buck farmer and this is the best way to make your major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him in here without any added pressure with traffic on the bases as he turns on the rubber with that good live arm delivers foul ball there you know these Cardinals really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one it's been fun getting a chance to see them go to work they really made that opposing starter work in this one ran his pitch count up and now they've got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen and a one-1 [Applause] hey and they'll do it again and no they haven't broken through in a big way in the runs column but with the way they're grinding out at bats it definitely feels like there's potential for more coming and that chance handled tosses to first one up one down now P catcher Ivon Herrera here's the catcher Ivon [Applause] Herrera close one doesn't get the call ball one [Applause] the wind in the pitch and a foul [Applause] ball and another ball out to Short Del La Cruz On The Run sends it over to first two up two down well we talk about how the ball is coming pitch hand the way comes out of his hand as an infield wow really impressive now it's the right fielder Jordan [Applause] Walker oh he doesn't get the call and that is ball one two down nobody on here in the bottom of the six there's a strike 95 of that one one ball one [Applause] strike so a foul ball makes it one and two two down nobody on headed down the line and that lands in no man's land a foul ball swing and a miss struck him out and it's a one two three inning red Bird's down quietly but they still lead it 3-1 new inning getting started and now here is Santiago Espin this pitcher has done a good job of disrupting the hitters timing with the mix of pitches and changing speeds you want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter their swings are hesitant and that's exactly what you want on the M action in the pen down there Andrew pitri getting loose out there lior also [Applause] throwing swing and a miss and that's strike one changing speeds has this lineup completely off balance in this one we've seen a lot of mtime swings and it's been a challenge for these hitters to get their Rhythm right pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there started on the edge of the plate with the spin you know it's going to finish well off the plate and another ball here's an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense 31 count be ready to turn on a fast 31 and he couldn't come up with it well there might be time to dig into that Bullpen he's looking a little fatigued to me and now the right fielder Jake Frey now these guys definitely looking for big swing of the bat right here try to close that Gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way the tag and they get two double play next for Cincinnati Ahmed Rosario Chris his skill set straight out of the mid 80s good contact not much power and he could run he always uses the wheels to his Advantage his biggest challenge in this day and age is to not get caught up in trying to hit home runs because so many people are two outs breaking ball inside ball three I Le baseball starting to understand that those guys are valuable like they once were they need them in this game today and there's ball for one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so ball down the line into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it popped up to the left into foul ground on his his major league debut so we'll see if he's ready for the big stage he just has to remember this is the same game that he's played all the way through the minor leagues to this point the only
