just about set to go and our starting pitcher here today Dylan C and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with Runners and scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout handled by m Shadow throws the first in time one out in the top of the first let's take a peek of the Mets lineup here they're dealing with a top level arm on the mount so this figures to be a tough matchup for them what's the key to the offense today singi oh B I think when you got a guy that's this talented on the mound you got to find ways to disrupt his rhythm make him uncomfortable a little bit the guys that can handle the bat and perhaps you know bunt bunt for a base hit get him moving off the mound if you're in the box and he's seems to be just in a flow step out mess up his timing somehow try to get in his head a little bit and then when he does come in the zone you may only get one pitch you better not miss it he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious two outs Bas is empty there's Brandon nmo right through there for a strike and singy as a team you need to make the most of the very few opportunities he's going to give you right absolutely and and you know if you don't get to guys like this a lot of times early once they really settle in it's going to be the later Innings that they hand that ball over to a relever if they do at all two outs good eye on that spot cuts and misses it's a strike out Mets go down quickly and now the Friars will get their first chance no score you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back here at petle Park pitching in our game today Luis sevino what's the scouting report on him well he's been a real quality starter for his claw and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how right-handers do against him in this one bottom of the first Lis arise stands in ripped on the line and a base hit just kind of slic that one into Center just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front side and the hands just Contin to carry through the middle of the [Applause] field now badic jerks in profar first offering Runner goes swing in the m one throw and they got him not a fast runner on the base path so this kind of looks like it was a hit and run call from The Dugout got to make contact someway or somehow because that guy's not going to be able to second base and be [Applause] [Applause] safe swings through that one it's a strike out now here's Jake cranworth [Applause] sharp grounder that's through for a base hit Joey gets on base and keeps it going I'm sure he feels really good about that one to get the ball by the pitcher there's a lot of base hits up the middle even on ground ball so nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit here's Manny Machado srino so a foul ball makes it one and two boo the runner at first needs to be careful right here he's dealing with a pickoff artist on the B and another [Applause] ball the pitch just misses Full Count three and two knocks that one away and we'll do it again G two on the way gets a piece and stays a [Applause] lot srino kicks deals swings and misses struck him out Padre's leave one we played an inning no score and we're back all set for the start of the inning and now it's going to be P alonszoo he's a bad ball hitter so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the Zone he still might beat you not an easy out by any [Applause] means F back ourway and that's out of play [Music] two two by him for the K oh that's a curveball that I'm sure he wants back at the plate two strikes the sort of pitch you're hoping for a bit of a mistake and I'd say in a very hitable location but clearly the break was enough to get him to swing through [Applause] it here's Jesse Winker [Applause] got him swinging well he's really dialed in and this offense is going to have to do something to try to break that Rhythm maybe it's square around the B step out of the box agitate him a little bit do something that just changes what's happening right now because at this pace it's going to be a long game so you got to figure it out quickly two down nobody on and down on strikes and nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three impeccable command in that one three batters three strikeouts that's electric stuff out there on the mound and welcome back to the ballpark we head to the bottom of the second and here is Xander go and a pitch that one almost got [Applause] him swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher Alvarez snags it and there's one away batting the center field Jack Mero so digging in now for San Diego Jackson [Applause] Mero and he Dodges that fast B well you've got to establish the inside part of the plate early and that sends a message not just to this hitter but to the rest of the lineup as well next offering upstairs Eric summersgill with home plate Duty in this one kind of known for being generous with the corners Chris you know I think that used to be a lot bigger deal in past eras where pitchers were working more in and out with their pitches but yeah we'll see if those Corners come into play in this one hey no pitchers going to argue at all foul ball there how much were you aware of the Umpire Scouting Report or even who was going to be umpiring not a whole lot I mean there were a couple of umpires that weren real good but outside of that you just kind of went into the game especially back when I was playing man there was no deviating from the fast ball right there he just kept coming after him with it here it is hit it if you can and he just couldn't find a way to put it in play David peral at the plate 3-1 is on the way swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play righty delivers in the air right field Taylor ranging after it makes the grab and that'll end the inning we'll move to the third with no score back here in San Diego well here we go top of the third scoreless game and stepping in for New York Francisco Alvarez [Applause] looks like the weather could actually play a factor in this one it's coming down pretty good yeah it is and it's not too bad yet but The Field's not going to be able to hold up if the rain gets any worse than this so keep an eye on the pitcher round as well and the rest of the infield start to puddle up a little bit jeck mcneel stands [Applause] in swing and a miss ball two St the wi and the pitch on the ground right side Cronin work takes it himself first two batters retired here in the top of the third a well thrown slider like that one can be tough to get in the air good downward break on that one and next for the Mets Tyrone Taylor top of the third no [Applause] score Line Drive nice grab that one was ticketed for The Gap but couldn't get through security great job there of Leaping making the catch and ending the inning back here at Petco Park set for the bottom of the Third stepping in for San Diego Luis cusano here comes a pitch lifted in the air right center field tracks it down for the out one down that's a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch we all know those could be a little tricky especially if the wind swolling around out there Mason McCoy the next up for the Padre's one out base is empty swinging a miss and the count one and two oh that's that slurf right there he threw it extremely well talk about just a ton of breaks so T to get that Barrel to got him looking and he didn't like the call really love the pitch sequence right there I'm telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now next for the padr Luis arise two outs and another ball [Applause] grab ball up the middle Lindor tosses to First and it's a one two three inning nothing doing there for the Friars still no [Applause] score as we go to the top of the fourth here's the Mets lead off man Francisco Lindor [Applause] the pitch and that's in the dirt well these Mets just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they're chasing outside of the strike zone you can't do much of anything with those locations and that's been true again today and a pitch gets a piece there we'll do it again and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that Strike Zone and Beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand the two- two on the way swings and misses it's a strike out and that's his 200 strikeout of the Season just absolutely rolling on the mound he's looking very much on his game in the early parts of this one boo fully on the attack with these hitters that's seven strikeouts already so he's got a good going no doubt and now it's Mark Vientos ball to strike fought off foul on the ground to the left into the Outfield base hit so a man aboard now with one [Applause] away the back number n there's something about pulling one down the line and shooting it through the infield that's just so satisfying as a hitter it's just fun turning on a pitch like he did right there man at first with one gone so up next for New York Brandon nmo the pitch nope that's inside [Applause] just missed all tied up top half of inning number four and there's ball for maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass and now it's the polar there pet Alonzo he's been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the play it's like everyone else is in slow motion and he's in full speed that one misses three and one now at the dish looking to look the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning ining double play [Applause] boo bounce to the left side and it's just foul that was close and the pitch goes down looking just locked him up right there for the second out and that's not bad as we going to be thinking about for a little while didn't pull the trigger not how you want to go down in an RBI spot so now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up so first and second with two outs at the batter now Jesse Winker swings and misses two and two Vientos the lead Runner out at second nmo at first two out of the inning wouldn't chase that time number 11 Waits on Deck [Applause] now a screamer into the Outfield Kar settles under it makes the grab and that's the third out so it's no runs on a hit no errors and two are left to the bottom of inning number four now no [Applause] score jerks and proile the next up for the Padres the left field Jer Ro and the pitch profar gets a piece [Applause] there this to third oh look at the stop throws from the seat of his pants and that's a great play for the out have to be so quick with their first step reactions Hot Shots like that that's why they call it the Hot Corner that's a perfect example though there's no way he gloves that one if he's not dialed in anticipating something coming in his way staying on his toes every pitch really nice job to get back up set himself and make a strong throw across the DI next to hit Jake Cronin worth [Applause] swing and a drop deep left field that one's carrying out of here just like that they move in front it's one nothing he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that's what he expects of himself and bat after a bat he's that confident that's the exact definition of hitting the ball where it's pitched taking that outside fast and driving it the opposite way out of the ballark you want to bottle that type of approach one down Manny Machado up to the plate outside low ball two the wi of the pitch not close with that one three and two [Applause] now battling here as he fouls it away one down base is empty swing and a miss him out he battled for a long time but it finishes with a strike out you can't be mad at yourself after anat like that one Xander to the plate now he played in the so series to open the 2024 season such a cool experience for both teams Boo the Barts it was the fifth this one's into the Outfield could be extra bases makes the turn and heads for second bards into second couldn't have timed it up any better than that just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit there's always great so two down so digging in now for San Diego Jackson Merill right through there for a strike [Applause] and a miss struck him out that ends the inning and they limit the damage so they pick up a run on two hits no errors in a man left we're headed to the fifth it's the Padre's one and the Mets nothing [Applause] and we're back ready now for the fifth inning now the third basem number 11 we haven't seen a break in the weather and the umpires might be forced to make a decision soon yeah I think so boo I mean everyone looking and wondering when they're going to stop play it definitely feels close these Mets showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one starters leash has to be tighter with his pitch count where it is but so far he's been really effective in this one that misses the zone and that's ball three you know sometimes it just takes getting to the bullpen in order to be able to score runs and that might be the case today three1 and he couldn't come up with it well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over first now here is Francisco Alvarez [Applause] 32 the 3-2 is off the outside edge and that is ball for he's making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he's going to have to buckle down right here first and second no outs and now here's Jeff mcneel the one one Line Drive brings it in rounder tags it second and he's in safely at third with one out Tyrone Taylor up now for the men Tyrone all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning Runners at the corners one away and we're in the top of the fifth Dr ball right side nice stop to Second that's one to First not in time great effort there I promise you their guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI that was a possible in ending double play great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it [Applause] so the batting order turns over now up to hit Francisco Lindor two outs f ball for a strike keeps the it back going with a foul ball the pitch and a swing in a miss and that's that so they right there you know these Padres showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one the starter pitch count is high because they've worked the count full against him five different times their pitch selection's been off the charts today hit hard that gets through solo Runner aboard to start the [Applause] inning Luis cusano the next up for the padr Luso here's a 1-1 swing and a miss he was late strike two with two strikes may see some movement over there first base trying to stay out of the double play right here and another ball the M right there as infielders took care of business pretty textbook execution between short and second to turn that into two outs and now the short stop Mason McCoy that one finds the Zone it's a Mark Vientos you know the first manager to ever win a game here at Petco Park was Tony Gwyn yes Tony Gwyn they had a college baseball tournament here in March 200 four and Tony managed San Diego State turn a ball around at 107 off the bat it's going to make you feel really good inside if he elevates that a little bit more it's definitely out of [Applause] here and now the DH Brandon nmo [Applause] I got to call nlds game four here in 2022 at pill Park where the Padres knocked out their Rivals the LA Dodgers the place was just nuts the entire game terrific fan support and there's a ball he's really working him away this bat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield and that's ball four oh you know this guy wants to swing it but he's showing some good patience in this one it's the second time he's taken Ball Four manager out of the Dugout now and it looks like we'll see a change on the mound Dylan CE departs only two hits allowed for him so a great effort and we'll be back after a quick break to tell you about the new arm team Paris comes on now and he's been hit pretty hard at times this year so he's looking for better right now giving up more than a hit for [Applause] any go ahead run on base here's Pete Alonzo oh look out here he's going to come up ready to swing in this situation and here it comes just missed could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch [Applause] coming and now the Lefty check swing did he go yes he did the two two now spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at B so far just one of those days for this lineup you get a couple of Runners on and you're looking at having a big inning and that strikeout right there just pours water on the fire look for the next hitter to step up and try to do something pick up his teammate and his club and stepping in for New York Jesse Winker swing and a miss as he was late that time the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot go ahead run it second and we're the top half of the six bals it off still one and two two on one out and that's outside and that's ball while you want to be ready to hit the fast ball sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there here's the third baseman [Applause] two outs couple of base runners at first and second and fouled off the pitch on the ground to Second there's Bogarts third out two left for the Mets score remains tied 1-1 bottom of the six now it's the DH Luis Aras he's kind of an outlier especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power the one-1 and a good eye there yeah his swing is so good it's in the zone a long time he gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits swing and a miss chased it out of the Zone see one of the things that's interesting is that guys really don't worry about swing and Miss from an offensive standpoint anymore so when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this do you think of that as plus value absolutely if he's doing damage now's rolling over and and grounding out then it's a different story but yeah he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence 100% you I was watching his rounds during batting practice today so impressed with his ability to let the travel go back up the m and the other way sometimes when you step in the Box dur in the game you get a little anxious and you get away from that but so far I've seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation here's the switch hitting left fielder jerks in proile and it goes just foul the pitch now this is in the air down the line into the corner but foul when you're taking your lead over there at first you got to be very careful this guy on the Mounds got a good pickoff move that's foul off to the right side keeps the AV going ball set to throw pitch number 100 he needs a quick inning here if he's going to be able to make it through six complete that misses and the count is two and two kicks and fires left field proar is out and there's one [Applause] down now B first B work Jake cronenworth the next up for the Padre's definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball in the ground in the infield should be an in ending double play B a strike the pitch that's ball D well it's been a very impressive outing so far his command has been a big part of it even when he misses he misses outside the strike zone which is exactly what a pitcher wants the count two and one one and a foul ball left side with the goahead run at first here in the bottom of the [Applause] six that one the other way face hit Linker hurries it back in runner holds it second but they've got something going on here everything came together for him anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run here comes the skipper and we're going to see a pitching change in this spot Luis sevino out of the game and as he heads for The Dugout we'll take a quick break new arm on the mound when we get back Shawn manah taking over on the mound and he's been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year typically at least one in inning so he'll be tough to get here first and second one out now Machado up here here comes a pitch that close he's looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this [Applause] Jam the rides the lead runner at second cronenworth at first one go gone and he grounds one to the right side down the line and it's foul hitter's got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the Outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit and there's two away yeah that was a wasted RBI opportunity but competitor like him he is looking forward to making up for it in his nexted back and here is Xander B second [Applause] bander swing and a miss and that's strike two good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it bounced up the middle On The Run throw to first out with room to spare and that's the inning Padres leave a pair still tied [Applause] one welcome back we're in the seventh we have a new pitcher on the M Tanner Scott he's having an excellent season so far ra is under two lot of flexibility coming out of the bullpen Francisco Alvarez up now for the Mets number Francisco [Applause] Al two and one now and there's a foul [Applause] ball the two two swing and a miss struck him out that was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fast balls in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull theer Jeff mcneel up now for the Mets mcneel having a lot more success on the road this [Applause] season and a one-1 tapped at the plate but it's a foul [Applause] ball at the belt and fires swings and misses now two out chance to strike out the side now you talk about the benefits the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and Miss whether it's inherited hunters or maybe a little Jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat tell you what that's huge and can change the ball game and there's a strike good heater at inning here with two of the three hitters he set to face batting from the left side same side he throws from the two one out the line out toward Center no trouble here puts it away for the out one away good piece of hitting right there nice hard line drive to the Outfield you're trying to get on base represent that goahead run can't hang your head on that at all B is one away here the bottom of the seven and that one ripped into right Taylor calls it in and there's two away great swing of the bat right there trying to get on as that goahead run he just wasn't able to find a hole Luis kusan rander kicks deals and that one is lifted in the air Peralta has a beat on it makes the grab and there's one away so digging in Mark Vientos all tied up and we're in the top of the [Applause] eth and another ball movement in the bullpen Jason Adam up and loosening in the pen [Applause] and he deals and that one fouled [Applause] off and a base hit right there well they an advantage count for a reason you're so much more likely to get something you can handle show the willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit substitution being made at first coming in as the pinch Runner Harrison Bader Harrison Brandon nmo up now for the [Applause] Mets swing in a miss one and two your base runner You' got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in scoring position Bader runs and a foul ball he stays fast ball I'm sure the pitcher taking a note look for an off speed pitch on this next one Runner goes again pitches High here's what I think the manager thinking right now today we're not driving the ball it's hard to get extra base hits we've got to make something happen to get a runner in scoring position that stolen base excellent call now all it takes is perhaps a single to put a run on the [Applause] board and it's second up the middle lays out oh it's off his love and he beats it he's safe two consecutive base hits for this team didn't try to do too much with it just a really controlled simple swing we don't see a whole lot of that these days with hitters trying to launch and hit home runs but sometimes you got to shorten up just like that Runners at the corners here one away stepping in Pete Alonzo [Applause] two on one out fights that one away still one and two and the right-hander deals line drive base hit runner from third into score they lead it in the eight well he comes through clutch with the RBI single that was big solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive knock two on one out and next for the Mets Jesse Winker [Applause] got him and there's two away third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual performance lot of flush he just hasn't looked very comfortable up there just one of those days but when you're still winning the ball game at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that w [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] two on two outs now he breaks his back and that's the third out but the RBI single pushes across a run and the home team down a run it's major league baseball and it's on the show now into the game Harrison Bader he'll be patrolling center field Reed Garrett gets the call from the pen well the best forever all the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we'll see what he's got here now pitch hitter coming on for the Padres Donovan Solano they're running out of time in this game trying to get something started [Applause] here looking to get the dying run on base and that's a little bit High and the count two and [Applause] one right-handed reliever and that is cut on and missed and the discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly now a huge atat in this game coming up looks like we've got a substitution at first on the right fielder Tyrone Taylor there's a breaking ball that drops in there not looking like they'll be adding any insurance runs heading to the bottom of the ninth so it's going to be on the B pen to
