so just about set now and on the mound in this one Nathan evaldi safe to say he's pretty stingy Chris well this guy's just been filthy out there on the mound hitters batting under 200 against him and they're just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it's going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today and the right-hander deals that missed that's a ball little Chopper rolls foul one and two now and that skips in dirt [Music] this one in the air center field no trouble here puts it away for the out one away all right let's take a look at the Angels lineup this has been a good productive lineup so far this year currently ranking among the better teams in terms of total hits and runs per game well you know this lineup sees it as very important to put the ball in play boo I mean this is an age where strikeouts are up so so high and players are swinging and missing going for the fences but if you can increase that contact rate you can be a dangerous Club you get more Runners on base and then all of a sudden when that big swing comes through you're plating more runs so we'll see if this pitcher can get some soft contact let the defense work behind her that hanging breaking ball looks so juicy to The Hitter and nothing more frustrating when you miss that pitch and you pop out he's going to have to think about that till his next ADV bat trying to pick up his first knock in the big Le leagues that one's upstairs ball one starter for his club and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how right-handers do against him in this one and the matter will be the short stop Josh Smith looking for his first big league hit right the pitch sequence of that at bad and the thing to notice are the pitch locations every single one of them on the edges of the strike zone and as a hitter that can be pretty frustrating because you don't expect the pitcher to be able to make quality pit pitches one after another like that so those are tough spots to do damage in a great demonstration of pitch command and it got him a punch out stepping in for the Rangers Outfield playing pretty shallow that one the other way and that's a fair ball they're waving around Duran and now it gets into the corner he'll score and the Rangers tie the game it's 1-1 so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an IT bat he's never going to forget so the lineup flips over Josh Smith now at the plate canning checks the runner and he's back in [Applause] [Music] there bounced and that got the pitcher and they get the out after the Ricochet and now the hustle out to check on him that was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee yeah clearly in some real pain but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn't have to it's looking to me like he's going to try to shake it off and continue Wyatt Langford stepping in for the Rangers he hit to a double play his first time up and this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here [Applause] ball one and a pitch inside right field down the line and that one slices foul two outs just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get the hitter thinking f fast ball speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little move it and a pitch goes down looking a lot of adrenaline we can see it right there and sometimes you just got to let it out that's an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough inning Mickey monia the next to hit for the [Music] Angels the right hander back to work sh you know these Angels doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient at bats out of him he's only giving up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense that one missed you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today hitter well he's been incredibly efficient in this one first pitch strike percentage over 70% that's well above League average and that's what's allowed him to pitch well up into this point that one way inside you can see was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little Tardy on the fast ball kick sand swing and a miss and he struck him out and one gone to the fourth as they get the lead off man oh really went aggressive in with that slider good two- strike pitch right there at worst case scenario it's weak contact in play exactly where where he and the catcher wanted it adolis Garcia stepping in for the Rangers 0 for one with a fly out to Center that pitch in for a strike going [Applause] one and that's downstairs and outside one out base is good at framing but it's that big arm that really stands out that one inside and that's ball one yeah and because he's got the big armm he pays attention to the running game game and is sure to manage it there's a strike you have a catcher that can throw like that a pitcher doesn't have to worry as much about the slid step he can keep his mechanics intact and have a better opportunity of getting there's one away the right fielder number 16 Travis jski so digging in Travis Janowski he doubled home a run at his first AB he's someone that you might not describe as having Elite level speed but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game Bo this guy's definitely a plus Runner but what I'd love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break guys like that even though they don't have the Elite Speed the fact that they're consistent with it they make moves on the base passs and now the oan it's in there in the dirt one and two the count he's looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this Jam that one hit to right Adele sizing this one up he's got it and there's two away yeah that was a wasted RBI opportunity but competitor like him he is looking forward to making up for it in his next at bat so the Rangers batting order turns over here's the short stop at the play Josh Smith right through there for a strike H the lead Runner out at second to Varys at first two out of the inning next offering is in for a strike oh and two and he deals swings through it and that's a strike out a couple of hits in the inning but they can't get him the strike you know these angels need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings just one extra base hit for them so they haven't exactly been hitting the ball Gap to Gap or curveballs in the sport today that break like that thing does huge movement it's so difficult to get on the same plane and even think about squaring it up let alone get a piece and hope he throws top three balls two strikes outside and that is ball four one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so ball down attack these other guys get your team back in the Dugout One down base is empty and that one hammered way back there a dive and he can't haul it in round second digging for third and he's got himself a triple having a really nice game here that's his second extra base hit a lot of times in today's game right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that but he hit that one pretty well first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an it bad he's never going to forget so first and second with two outs Jonah Heim stepping in for the [Applause] Rangers slice the other way that's a always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher I'm sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing and now leot Tas in the first pitch misses for ball one not the easiest thing when you're talking about a guy that's you know perhaps was going to be in the rotation maybe a long relief guy to not start an inning to come into an inning with pressure on it and and try to get yourself comfortable wouldn't chase that time tough spot right here a couple Runners on two ball count you can't nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it's going to bring in some runs two on two outs that's a strike in today's game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they're looking for one two change up call right there excellent pitch selection to go with next off is down low Ezekiel Duran waiting for a turn at the plate the pitch 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it now Bas is full to gone Ezekiel Durant the next to hit and ball one one ball no strike Bas is loaded two down the next offering misses and that's ball two pressure's on right here two count base is loaded you don't want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on he's got to challenge The Hitter right here that misses the Zone ball three in situations like these the air can get really thin up there at the plate got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down fast major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him in here without any added pressure with traffic on the bases so in now for the Angels Zack Netto the Halos in Striking Distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the lad off man need a good and bad out of him right here the pitch and that's off and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here man at first first with one gone Anthony randone the next to hit for the angels and first off ring is fouled off now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that Gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it's really important of getting back into this ball game the 01 foul ball shanell the runner at first with one gone in the inning that missed by a lot going to count one and [Music] two and the fielder Travis Janowski this is a guy you got to keep an eye on when he digs in definitely been known to drop a drag bunt from time to time and he's pretty good at it Chris yeah and he creates a sense of urgency for the defense because of the speed because of the ability to put down that BN the wind of the pitch just missed now you see even Sluggers from time to time try and use the bunt really as a way to beat the shift in the air right field Adele moves under it makes the grab one away the batter number eight short stop back to the top of theine lineup now Josh Smith come on up and in ball one 1 swing and a miss one ball two strikes one down base is empty two2 well he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here 22 he's already seen the curveball couple of times in this at bat so might have it timed up and ready for it and now the Lefty got it by for the K he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious that'll do it Grant Anderson taking over on the mound and he's got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters Anderson Mickey monia digs in now over for three a fly out of ground out a strike out the pitch that misses the zone and it's one and0 meanwhile activity in the bullpen Andrew Heeney getting loose out there Chaffin also getting ready let's go leftand hitter Waits there's a swing and a drive that one carrying and it bangs off the foul pole home run so he goes the opposite way with that one and they inch closer it's 63 well he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it clanked off the pole and every time that happens it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something but really it's just a stroke of lock that it stays Fair long enough and now the catcher comes up to hit Logan ohappy first pitch just misses always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning righty delivers a swing and a miss and that's strike one one and one [Applause] ripped to Third and caught that it that is a positive sign even though it probably doesn't feel like it he hit the ball hard but it doesn't always work out in your favor sometimes a Defender is there to make a play he's two outs away now it's the second baseman Brandon
