when you consider the top hitters ballparks in the sport this has got to be one of them I'll say this pitchers have to stay with their game they can't look over their shoulder and think I have to be fine and perfect on every pitch continue to pitch to your strength and you'll come out of here with a good outing all right we'll be back to get this one started after this all right just about set to go and our pitcher in this game DJ hers and Chris he's a guy that gets better when things get tough well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have a really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion but just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side Jaz jism Jr in the Box here lets that one go for a ball wouldn't chase that time the pitch fouls one off out of play back to our left the wine of the pitch that one off the mark now three and [Music] one pass ball for a strike okay kicks and fires gets a piece there we'll do it again [Applause] and a swing in a miss and there's one away was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fasts in that location hits especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger and here is Brian Del La [Applause] Cruz one out is empty and a foul [Applause] ball and there's a [Applause] [Music] ball swing and a miss struck him out two down man there was no deviating from the fast right there he just kept coming after him with it here it is hit it if you can and he just couldn't find a way to put it in [Applause] play and first off ring is fouled off [Applause] and a pitch and a swinging to miss that he really sells the change up with that arm action outside now one and two two down nobody on Down the Line Thomas drifts towards it and he can't quite get there it's a foul ball here comes a [Applause] pitch two out Bas is empty got him strikes out the side to begin the game what a start and the Marlins down quietly and now the Nets get their first opportunity there's no score you're watching Major League Baseball on the show back here in Nationals Park and on the hill the Lefty Trevor Rogers what do you got on him Chris well he's been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hits have really strug batting below 200 on the year it seems they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how right-handers do against him in this one CJ ABR in now takes ball one off the [Applause] plate that one ripped right center field and it's gone H run his second Homer of this series and they grab the lead it's one nothing you can't ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first at back to give your team the lead well he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time took a direct path to the ball excellent extension and just drove it out of here nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that here's Lane Thomas and that's in there at the knees always exciting to see a late off home run and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big [Applause] inning missed with a change up and the count even one and one with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he's really going to have to execute against these next couple of [Applause] batters [Applause] stairs next offering misses and that's ball three first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no Panic at all by The Hitter very patient showing good discipline now he's in the driver seat with a 3-1 count 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it now this was a story we were paying attention to before the game we' seen him up the it's an issue again early on here's Jesse Winker he's been a great free agent side swinging a Miss that's strike one one strike runner at first with no outs [Applause] here next offering is in for a strike got him looking that's a strike out well he froze him with the change up right there and I think he was so geared up for fast once he recogniz that it was off speed he just wasn't able to make an adjustment so a really good strike out and just won the battle Rogers checks over to First and he's back here's Eddie Rosario and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter [Applause] foul ball there Thomas stands it first with one [Applause] out swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field Gordon racing over to make the catch B here's Dave Martinez lineup for the Nationals getting Guys across the plate not exactly a forte for them this year as their offense is in the bottom third of the league and run scor Bo it becomes extremely frustrating and then what happens is guys press especially in run scoring opportunities and situations and on top of that I mean you really make it harder on your pitcher he feels like he's got to be perfect to go out there and win a ball game or at least to put the team in a position to win a ball game so they've got to figure out a way to relax get those Runners across when they have them on and especially when they're in scoring [Applause] position one b and a pitch out but nothing going [Music] [Applause] on in the air left field and it stays Fair around third the relay and he's out okay C down and that ends the inning always exciting to see a play at the plate trying to score with two outs but the tag just gets him in time and they cut down the run to end the [Applause] inning and welcome back to the ballpark second inning set to go here's the third basem Jake burger and that one is inside [Applause] right through there for a strike Matthew Ross umpiring behind home played for us in this one he's got a reputation for having a bit of a wide Strike Zone Chris yeah no doubt boo he rewards pitchers when they're working the edges and sometimes a little bit beyond that so for the hitters just have to really be aware don't miss your pitch when you get it early in the count tosses to First and a quick out number one singy what kind of strike zone is most frustrating for hitters I'd say off the plate away and down and why those are the toughest locations to hit the [Applause] baseball pesus Sanchez in the box now no balls in a St right the Marlins down by a run here at the top of the second sharp grounder that's through for a base [Applause] hit man at first with one gone Xavier Edwards will hit next Short Stop takes the ball man it first one away that one [Applause] missed next offering upstairs [Applause] there's a [Applause] strike fouls one away and now three and [Applause] two kicks Indians struck him out looking Nick Gordon the next up for the Marlins that one at the knees for a [Applause] [Applause] strike that's outside Ball wall the one- one is fouled off two outs that misses the zone two and [Applause] two and now the Lefty still two and two after the foul [Applause] ball the pitch swings through it for the K slider got him for strike three so one hit is all they get we go to the bottom of inning number two it's the Nationals one and the marins nothing and we're back and now it's K Ruiz the catcher R the Lefty fires fouled off he was late I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the could [Applause] beo hammers that one a deep left field and get it a gigantic blast and they t one on the board it's two nothing that was blasted absolutely no doubt off the bat that's exactly the pitch he was looking for crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark [Applause] now it's Nick [Applause] senzel ripped to third fires across the diamond that's one out the bottom of the second group right down the middle usually a lot of damage with that pitch a hard grounder but he wanted to get that ball in the air maybe drive it into the Gap Joey Gallow steps to the [Applause] plate swings through that one going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball oh he doesn't get the call and it's one and one think he wanted that call on the upper part of the Zone but just didn't get it now he's just trying to get a better feel for how much it missed so he can adjust his sights just a little [Music] [Applause] bit one run acrossing the frame so far bottom half of inning number two he goes down looking wow that's a tough call for the hitter but the pitcher will take that all day long not quite in the strike zone but he found a spot that the Umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call so hitters are going to have to make an adjustment but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can number 30 stands in with two away as he takes a ball the one and a breaking ball drops in for a strike [Applause] so a foul ball makes it one and two two down nobody on next offering misses down and Away recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it not even close there and the Count's full wi in the pitch and it's Ball Four he missed down low one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so ball down the line into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of [Music] it ABS the next to hit takes ball one he's going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he's not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch leftand hitter Waits foul [Applause] ball just off the outside edge home throw into third and he's it safely at third and a run comes into the score in there safely well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win and here's the D for Washington Jesse Winker struck out looking in his first it [Music] back and ball one hey it's still early in this ball game but you know this hit bat right here could be a big factor the outcome you think about it there's a chance to really blow this thing open right here and that one fouled [Applause] Off Pitch misses inside and the count two and one and here it comes two balls two strikes to count with two outs hson misses it's a strike out so they get two runs on two hits one of them left the yard we head on now to the top of the third it's the Nationals three and the Marlins nothing new inning getting started and now it's Vidal bruhan VI ran ruhan in the eighth spot in today's lineup and he was born in the Dominican Republic Swang in a line drive slicing in right field and that's down a base hit so a runner aboard to start the inning didn't take long to get a result for that at B show the willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit and now Nick forz Gallow makes the grab one down good hard fast up in the zone right there they look really good coming in but so hard to get on top of as a hit Jazz Chisum Jr now struck out swinging his first time [Applause] no [Applause] oh liner sa to First that it bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn't feel like it he hit the ball hard but it doesn't always work out in your favor sometimes a Defender is there to make a play and it first now the number two hitter Brian Del La Cruz d [Applause] slider misses outside [Applause] one just missed well he looks more focused at the pl and working the count after that first at bat strikeout the fish trailing by three we're here in the top half of inning number three and it is two and one [Applause] base hit center field throw stops the lead runner at second two on and two out well they call that an advantage count for a reason you're so much more likely to get something you can handle just a cookie down the middle I mean those are the ones you dream about ones in the cage you're just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it Bell takes a ball as he stands in for the second time [Music] and the pitch that one drifts inside could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch [Applause] coming BL drive and that should be extra bases rounds third headed for the plate one run across CR the relay throw and he's out T down and that ends the inning but they push across one run on three hits no errors and a runner left we move on to the bottom of inning number three it's the Nationals three and the Marlins one back in Washington DC set for the bottom of the third now it's the Nationals cleanup hitter Eddie Rosario on the ground right side and It Go just foul you know these Nationals do a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient at bats out of them they worked three walks already so that proves they're not anxious up there they're sticking to their game plan and it's working got them looking one [Applause] down now and now it's Luis Garcia doubled his first time up Garcia [Applause] one down base is empty breaking ball in there for a strike just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get the hitter Thinking Fast Ball speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement the pinch got him swinging for the strike out slider got him for a strike three backto back strikeouts to start the frame and that's now three in a row yeah he's really settling in and getting a feel for his pitches throwing him where he wants to right now so we'll see how long he can keep this streak going two outs faces empty and now up for Washington Hebert Ruiz that one down the line and it finds its way through for aeit and that keeps the inning [Applause] going well that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there he kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock and you'll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole now here is Nick senzel that one not close and it's w and0 [Applause] and the pitch fought off foul instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended tied him up a little bit slightly up slightly in two outs that's down and in [Applause] fouls one off two and [Applause] two at the belt and fires great ball and another ball great harbi spot here just got to stay focused on the pitch the runner will be in motion so something in the Gap should definitely score that's foul off to the right side keeps the ab going Ruiz the runner at first with two gone [Applause] bals that off to the left and will do it [Applause] again the pitch and that'sall four that's a great atat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk gosh another walk in this one man he is having some real issues with control so first and second with two outs and now it's Joey gall he's over one drilled to right will back there and that is gone they must be going crazy in the Dugout it's his sixth home run of the season and they boost their lead it's 6-1 that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on [Applause] autopilot well he went up there o oh looking to do damage I think he had his sight set on that pitch he went and got it and circled the bases so two down here's the center fielder Bunting and it's in the air and sa he busted it down the line for that infield single this is a big part of his skill set and he puts himself into situations where he can rely on his speed to impact the ball game and this is just another example of it and we'll see what else he can do now that he's on first here's CJ Abrams to hit slapped foul already three runs across in the frame here in the last half of the third the short stop takes the ball go Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this [Applause] game that one a 95 missed up top and that's ball two Miami's bullpan with action Dean Cronin up and loosening in the [Music] pen d and a foul ball it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are swings through that and it's a strike out and that is that but the national strike for three all coming via this three-run Homer and this is now a 6-1 ball game you're dialed into the show start to the fourth down the third baseman Jake burer Tak high in the draft he's had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that's starts to go away and you've got to produce at the big league level that's off the mark and that's ball one he's been pitching well but we'll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order we'll know if he's got really good stuff in this one or not and that's outside two balls no strikes and there's the [Music] strike now one one fouled off two and [Applause] two there's a swing and a drive that's back forget it that'll fire up the Dugout his second home run of the series and they cut into the deficit it's 62 that gives them hope they can pull off this comeback they just need a few more swings like that and they're back in business took on the big part of the yard for that home run and just barely got it over the wall I thought for a second he brought it back out there too gave it a great effort but you know those plays are so tough to pull off and I'm sure he'd love to have another shot at it and he lays down a bun throw off line he's safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away Ed and now for the Marlins Xavier Edwards struck out looking his first time trying to bun his way on whips it to Gallow and the bunt doesn't work out well there looked like the batter was trying to bunt for a base hit and as he got thrown out the runner Advanced so he's going to get credit with the sack Bond you know there's this redheaded announcer that I work with sometimes that gets really angry when that happens Nick Gordon the next up for the Marlins struck out swinging his first time close but call the ball and that is ball one evidently not too impressed with that call and it feels like he got squeezed on the outside corner so he's making his case you got to be careful to pick your spots in terms of showing your frustration with the Umpire and he felt this was his time that's in there one ball one strike the Nets leading by four top half of inning number four hit in the air left field that one gets down for a hit around third he'll score it's 6 to three comes through with the RBI that's a ball that a lot of times you'll see the short stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough but right there it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff with base hit Runner on at first with one gone Vidal bruhan getting ready to hit that one's upstairs ball one one stra and a pitch liner caught it Second That Swing right there tells me he's seing the ball pretty well I know it didn't produce a hit but he made Solid contact and that's all the ball bottom four up now for Washington Lane Thomas the wind to kick the pitch just off the Inside Edge well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats next offering way upstairs the pitch here's a Sligh and a drive left field and he knew it he flexes his power with that swing it's 73 that's their fourth home run of the game they can't stop and they won't stop hitting home runs in this one boo they're clearly feeding off of each other at the dish and a two- count a hitter is on high alert this is what you live for to be in the driver's seat here he got a pitch that he could handle and he hit that pitch really hard nice home run here comes the skipper and we're going to see a pitching change in this spot that'll be it for Trevor Rogers and as he heads off we'll step aside for a minute back with a new pitcher after this break now a right-handed arm out of the bullpen Dean Cronin they know that he can get get a right-hander out but he's in position to face a couple of lefties this inning next to hit for the Nets Jesse Winker who's so for two with a pair of strikeouts misses off the plate one and0 fight that one off and the righty deals fights it off he'll see another well he's having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you're seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact stays alive five foul balls in this in Bat so far and these two are going head to-head you can see the crowd they're starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn't been a ball in play yet [Applause] and he walked him it wasn't easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat well that's a nice job of grinding out that at bat saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk very gritty and now up for Washington Luis Garcia and first offering is fouled off [Applause] just [Applause] missed Cronin over to First Rosario Dives back in rasario at first one gone inside almost got [Applause] him SL on beled and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases the Run scores from first extending their lead and it's 83 well done drives in the Run good pitch to drive stayed short with his back path to the ball and C it out front and he stayed long in his follow through that's how you split the Gap and that's mound in this situation aead 2 he's put himself in a really good spot and the rander deals just missed well I would expect in this three count you're taking all the way see if they'll walk you next soft hits will always make you smile that line drive isn't going to light up stat cast or anything like that but it gets the job done and he just kind of caught it on a weird spot of the bat but he didn't get cheated with the swing that's for sure and first offering is fouled off the Nationals leading by five and we're at the top of the fifth pitch misses there and one and one right through there for a [Applause] strike battling here as he fouls it away clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast ball back kick sandal nobody out runner at the two two that's three swing in a miss no Advance good job behind the dish oh he's been racking up the strikeouts and what's so impressive not walking anyone I mean this guy's just going right after hitters filling up the strike zone and it looks like hitters they're trying to think with him but they just are a pitch behind dominating stuff out there on the mound Bell in the Box again takes a strike activity in the bullpen for the Nationals Hunter Harvey the hard throwing righty is up and loosening Barnes also throwing Here Comes thean Love how vocal the ire is today no doubt in the hitter's mind catcher mind and even the pitcher mind as to the conviction in the call breaking ball inside and it's one and two foul ball left side he'll see another the onew and they'll do it again put are producing a lot of quality swings everything seems to be clicking and the six extra base hits in the game kind of tells you everything you need to know they're not not getting fooled up there
