hello Baseball fans and welcome Sunday baseball on the show it's the Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays first pitch coming your way next [Applause] all right just about ready for baseball and out the hill in this one Kevin Gosman but Chris he hasn't exactly been Stellar here on his home now well I'll say this every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans in front of the city and you know this guy no different he wants to be more effective here so you know you look at the numbers they haven't been great at home I'm sure he wants to turn that around and we'll see if he's able to start that in this one and the righty deals out to short over to first one out the top of the first all right let's take a look at the Angels lot and probably their most productive player so far this year Zack Netto and boo he's their team leader in home run so you know the pitchers on that other side man they take a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting you know he's got a lot of pop and it's real pop it's not fluky at all he can absolutely change the Outlook of a game very quickly so watch out when he steps in and now Zack nto hammers that one deep left field and forget it home run number 20 on the year and the Halos jump out in front it's one nothing he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for Homer and you can see that's what he expects of himself at bat after it bat he's that confident love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat you watch him from the on Deck Circle so when you step in the Box you're ready to pull the trigger wherever it's at really good job by the hitter total conviction on that swing so now the DH spot Nolan shanell P misses one and0 shanell measures 6' 4 in hitting third in the lineup and he's usually a first baseman but today he's the designated hitter one down base is empty pitch misses and that's ball two some people say that first basem kind of have the day off regularly because they don't run around a whole lot but when you think about it they are involved in just about every single play and there's a lot of stress that gets put on their legs so a welld deserved day at the DH spot for him and he walked him on four pitches four pitches that's an easy walk man he could have walked me right there boo last one wasn't even relay but an excellent job of execution and getting that out at the dish as he tried to make it home all the way from first base and next for the Angels Mickey Monier that's a slider for a strike oh solo Homer and the home team down to run Major League Baseball is on the show back here at Rogers Center our starting pitcher in this one Griffin canning and Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him yeah and you don't want to be too quick to say that he can't pitch on the road sometimes you know it's just a matter of walk it's not having a feel difference between the bullpen down to the m out there on the playing field don't know what it is but I know this he's got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home so we'll see what he's able to do in this one and the right-hander deals Springer swings belts one out to left and it's caught just in front of the wall all right let's take a look at the lineup this an offense Chris that's having a hard time scoring runs right now yeah sometimes things just aren't going to click and unfortunately what happens is guys press they try to do a little bit bit more and they get out of their game you've got to let the game come to you if you chase it it's going to run from you so this is a team that just needs to calm down relax and understand that they're going to come out of this and now it's doton VAR settles underneath it two away down batting third the designated hitter two outs Bas is empty Vladimir Guerrero Jr now what a season it's been for him he has supplied a lot of power that's just a part of pitching missed Gary Simmons are played umpire today sort of has a reputation as a pitcher umpire yeah a little bit of a wider Zone than most I'd say in a wide Zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter cuz you have to start expanding what you're looking for for covering both sides and with the stuff pitchers have today just not going to have a lot of success bar under it and he makes the catch and there's one [Applause] down mat face comes up to hit here [Music] first pitch doesn't find the [Applause] zone right through there for a strike [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out now two out man there was no deviating from the fastball right there he just kept coming after him with it here it is hit it if you can and he just couldn't find a way to put it in play little bit so he doesn't have as much outside plate coverage and a onew and another ball with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt a good secondary lead doesn't have to get away from the catcher but if you're anticipating based off the trajectory get yourself in the scoring position and next for La Zack nto he's already homered in this game and there's a foul ball Stefan the base close if he does that he's going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some Authority instead of a fly out to left back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup George Springer next up for the Blue Jays in the air left field down the line Ward sizes this one up fing for the wall makes the catch and foul ground Blue Jays held in check they're down one nothing back here at Rogers this one he's only given up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense and he deals that one fouled off you know sometimes all Vladimir Guerrero J here's Vladimir Guerrero Jr flyed to left his first time latty measures 6 feet 2 in in 245 lb and he was born in [Applause] Canada one down base is empty this one chopped on the ground but [Applause] foul kicks Indi fights that one away way still one and two one out base is empty that missed by a lot two and two well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the advat I'm sure there's sometimes where pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter righty delivers lad swings drives one left field W going back and brings it in at the wall the B the first Bas spener horz Spencer Horwitz next up for the Blue Jays he's over one and the first pitch misses for ball one the Angels leading by a run we're here in the bottom B of the four and it's fou away here's a 1-1 and that one fouled [Applause] off BS it off still one and two flew open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch keep the alive bounce to third nice grab gathers and throws and it beats him what a play well that's catlike reflexes over there at the Hot Corner nice job of making that play and ending the inning and we're back ready now for the fifth inning now at the plate Matt Di and the pitch and there's a [Music] ball slides but he can't come up with [Applause] it everything came together for him pretty tough for the infielders to do anything with that one he pulled a hard into the Outfield in even when you keep it on the ground it feels great when you hit a missile like that Nico kavadas the next to hit for the [Applause] angels that one ripped way back there makes the catch up against the wall now yeah it's a really nice catch right there near the wall and you have to use everything available to you know when your feet leave the grass and hit the warning track also when you're able to use the bare hand to feel for exactly how close you are and right there perfect use of his instruments stonic batting with one down takes a strike [Applause] one down right through there for a strike just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get the hitter thinking fast speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little move o and two now the punch out there and there two down well that was a pretty poor of bat he just never got the B off the shoulder I mean you got to go up there looking a swing at some point especially once you're down 02 and at that point make an adjustment look to put the ball in play if it's anywhere close and I'm just not sure what the plan was there back to the top of the Angels lineup Taylor Ward the next to hit outside low and that's very smooth feed the second right there you got to love that gr toss Bo you know sometimes people think these guys are being a little flashy but it actually can make more sense to do that than try to thanks to that home run and that's exactly what they needed High fast balls especially with good velocity can be really hard to catch up to but he stays tall his Top Hand Works extremely well and he of favor on the M no question about it it's not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that and I'm sure there's some chirping going on from The Dugout making it clear that wasn't his best call behind the pl today next to hit Matt th gets under it and Pops it up should have this one he's there he's two down the the first ni so in now for the Angels Nico [Applause] kavadas that's in there well as good as things can be it can be a tough day at the office even for the Skippers seeing the offense just sputter not able to get anything going one gets a check swing appeal to Third and no swing says James Kingsley comes up empty as he chases that one in the dir man that's just a nasty splitter a falls out of it see a lot of guys throw that these days but I tell you what he's got a good one swing and a ball lined out towards Center no trouble here puts it away for the out and that is that Angels go down one two three and our score remains 2-1 Leander out of the boltman Matt Moore well he's been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes he's definitely struggled with pre passes this year and now the Toronto clean Spencer Horwitz more a 63 Lefty 34y old vet and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2007 movement in the bullpen Hunter Strickland the veteran right-hander appears to be loosening up Fulmer warming up as well and now the Lefty and a now Pat catcher and the batter now Alejandro Kirk this guy one of the best defensive catchers going you talk about framing the ability to block catch and throw he is at the top of the game first pitch misses really good athlete and many times you talk about you know the feat of infielders this catcher as well really quick feet he's able to recognize the pitch see the trajectory and get into a spot where he can block those balls and keep them from going to the back stop here's a highfly ball out to Center moniac makes the grab for the second out now back second Bas two outs Bas is empty here's the second [Applause] base he was late there strike one in the on Circle you really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball last thing you want to do is Miss a good love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we'll see what he's got here well one run game Michael Stefan now at the plate off foul way out front for strike two one ball two St bals that off to the left and will do it [Applause] again that one is absolutely belted that's back there and that ball is out of here he sends a rocket to left his 17th of the year and we are all tied up it's 22 how in the world did he manage to hit that one out it wasn't even in the strike zone looks like this guy was looking out over the plate but he was ready to turn on the inside fast ball so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ball [Applause] P so it's all tied up thanks to the Home Run here's the short stop at the play Zack Netto first patch just misses [Applause] right-handed reliever bounced up the middle On The Run sends it over to first two away I love how guys at this level are able to slow the game down whether it's in the batter box or on defense and right there that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had we talk about that internal clock he was able to gather himself get a good grip and make an accurate throw across the diamond and now the designated hitter for the Angels Nolan shanell first offering and a just misses two down bases empty but one run across and we're in the top of the [Applause] eighth hit weakly on the ground Horwitz he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run and we're deadlocked now at two a piece back now new pit on the M as we roll into the bottom of the eight Hunter strick he doesn't get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him they'll have to be in their toes with him on the bump Ernie Clement getting ready to hit he's already hom red here in this [Applause] one and a pitch and ball one [Applause] the one one swing and a miss he was late strike two one ball two straight that ball is foul and the pressure is building swings through it and that's a strike out oh that slider was way out of the zone and for me it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand not tracking into the zone and then also being a little bit anxious not confident in your two- strike approach and so when a guy's in that position you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and Miss as you did right there now number nine and a foul ball left side that pitch Clips the outside corner and it's only two action in the pen down there Jack kachan appears to be getting [Applause] loose got him looking that's a strike out well definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn't look too conin as he headed back to the Dugout those are tough ones that let go as a hit but with the human umpire calling balls and Strikes it's always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes Leo him looking he's got to be frustrated with that call nice work there to get the strike out and that's a big second out tell you this home crowd will be fired up they can get out of this and leave that
