[Music] and welcome in everybody glad you're with us the show has an NL East matchup it's the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals alongside Chris Singleton I'm John shami well singi when you consider the top hitters ballparks in the sport this has got to be one of them I'll say this pitchers have to stay with their game they can't look over their shoulder and think I have to be fine and perfect on every pitch continue to pitch to your strengths and you'll come out of here with a good outing all right we'll be back to get this one started after this so just about set now and getting to start DJ herds and Chris he's a guy that gets better when things get tough well he's been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how right-handers do against him in this one the wind and the pitch Jazz Chisum Jr in now takes ball one off the [Applause] plate in the the air right field pretty well struck way back there and it bangs off the out of scoreboard and that's a leadoff double everything came together for him just missed out on a home run right there but he certainly hit it hard enough just didn't have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall but still an excellent swing of the back Ryan Del Cruz the next up for the Marlins Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads and that drops in for a [Applause] strike Runner and scoring position nobody out and we're just getting started here in the top of the first f ball for a strike well he's realizing out there on the mound that he's got to settle in pretty quickly or else he's going to get hit hard in this first inning swing and a miss struck him out not what you're looking for after the leadoff double a strike out and there's one away well clearly just anxious right there and understandably so in an 02 count you feel like you've got a lot of plate to cover and you don't want to strike out and you end up striking out that's just one of those pitches where it's not over the plate but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand by the time you realized it wasn't going to be in the zone it's too late to hold up your swing on the ground and it goes just foul Chism over at second one down that misses the zone and that's ball two and it's second and that one is lifted in the air Thomas moving under it and there's two away the third take a look at the lineup this team Chris not one that gets a lot of production from hitting homers so they've got to find offense in other ways yeah boo hit sequencing is so important for this team you know getting that walk at the right time coming up with that next knock or extra base hit so that you can actually play to run if not then you see the record go in that's ripped face hit jazz on his horse coming around third he will score and the Marlins have the lead one nothing well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team [Music] win so two down Jesus Sanchez the next up for the Marlins right through there for a strike [Applause] [Applause] the pitch that's in there and the count is 0 and two all you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch get yourself out of the jam back into the [Music] Dugout that one not close now one and two [Applause] spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see another two outs in the dirt blocked and now a man into scoring position runner at second two down battling here as he fouls it away Andy deals swing and a ground ball out to short whips it to Gallow they limit the damage here so one run in the Inning on this Bas hit it's an early one nothing lead back in Washington DC starting on the mound in this one Trevor Rogers Well you know this guy wants to be better than that I mean the ER is bloated he understands that he's got to put his team in a better position to win ball games and at this point you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W and if you do that you'll look up and most likely that ER will have dropped over time CJ Abrams the leadoff batter as he looks at ball [Applause] one and there's a foul [Applause] ball way out front for strike two p started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track and that gets down for a base hit so a runner aboard to start the [Applause] inning nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and now they've got szel snags it one up one down got the pitch that he wanted just a little bit quick front shoulder open backside collapsed a little bit in the launch angle not where he needed it to be and up next for Miami Nick Gordon first pitch doesn't find the zone swinging a foul over the screen and back out of [Music] play hon misses it's a strike out man there was no deviating from the fast right there he just kept coming after him with it here it is hit it if you can and he just couldn't find a way to put it in play and now it's Vidal bruhan and that one just misses a ball and no strikes and now the Lefty fought off foul and that's outside and it's two and one two out space is empty next offering is in for a strike two down nobody and that one upstairs swag at a bouncer to First Marlin set down pitchers when they're working the edges and sometimes a little bit beyond that so for the hitters just have to really be aware don't miss your pitch when you get it early in the count Chism hauls it pitch if you don't get it inside and not because as a hitter you see it coming across the plate the whole way no problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time Josh Bell at the plate now swing and a miss chased it out of the [Applause] Zone way upstairs and it's a ball on a strike that one missed it's a big opportunity right here but I love the way he's slowing the game down he's shrinking his Zone making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit fouls one off two and two Lefty out of the stretch Runners at first and third foul ball another two- two upcoming kicks andand and a base hit knocks in a run well he wasn't afraid to hit with two strikes I think he choked up a little bit maybe spread out but he got the job done right there so one out with two a board now the third baseman Jake burer singled and drove in a run as first first time through outside corner there's a strike Del La Cruz the lead Runner out at second Bell over at first with one away the next offering misses and it's one and one two on one out wouldn't chase that time could miss with that change up away he needs a ball on the ground for a double play minimize the Potential Threat right here on the hitter side nice job of laying off that pitch and in and it's three and [Music] two and it's Ball Four he missed down low he's making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he's going to have to buckle down right here one out base is loaded and now for the Marlins Jesus Sanchez and that's a little bit high ball one the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot one out think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield got him swinging he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here first time up was a pop out that's off the mark and that is ball one laboring here about out to throw his 30th pitch of the inning sliced hard but foul look out that ball is smoked man I am so relieved that they have this netting down the lines just ensure safety for the fans last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit Gallow steps on the bag that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand but they pick up one run on the RBI single it's now a two and ball one and a pitch and that just misses recognized that change up right out of the hand just spit on it outside low Full Count now the guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand didn't stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch and that one is lifted in the air sizes this one up makes the catch for the [Applause] the next up for the Marlins he's over for one right down to shoot it's own and one well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn't pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you'll see in this atat to hit two down nobody on top half of inning number four just misses with that one two two still two and two after the foul ball [Applause] here comes a pitch breaking ball inside and the Count's full wow this guy's really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run I love his tenacity two outs foul we'll see another payoff pitch ninth pitch of the atat do next and down on strikes and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three and the Marlins down quietly they're up two nothing back in Washington DC B of four now it's the DH Jesse Winker Winker the pitch that Clips the inside corner for a strike he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict baseball and a quick out number one the Le number eight EDD so next will be the Four Hole hitter for the Nationals Eddie Rosario he's over one [Applause] close but called the ball probably a challenge pitch [Music] coming that's off the mark and that's ball three getting ready for some action here good r I guy at the plate runners in scoring position and a hitters count and he walked him on four pitches well the stage has been set for this offense boo it's all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here Bas is loaded with one away and at the play for line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there's nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact that's almost always going now this ball is hit this one's got a chance out of here and this place is rocking his second Homer of this series and they're on the scoreboard it's 2-1 that gives this offense something to celebrate for the first time in this [Applause] one well not every home run is a majestic blast off the bat and even though he hit it pretty well it was anything but a sure thing to get out but today the conditions were right he got just enough of it and I think the Back Spin really helped that thing carry now it's Nick senzel sends it across the first one away that ground ball may have him back on track after the Homer good two seam action right there running away from the batter rolled over it got the ground out and now it's Joey Gallo 0 for one so far fouled off he was late home team down a run last half of inning number five that's in there and that is strike two there's a swing and a drive chisen going back on the warning track and hauls it in man boo I love watching an outfielder take on the wall to make that play and it's a lot easier to watch from up here because that can be painful in the end you know the Wall's coming up on you quickly so you have to maintain concentration in able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact number 30 in the box now as he leaves that one up high and a big swing in a miss man he really sells the change up with that arm action two down do so a foul ball makes it one and two and The Pitch Out to short that's a hit just one of those scen ey based hits through the infield he just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find a hole and get not and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first so the batting order turns over here's CJ Abrams to [Applause] hit up the middle Edwards they take the force out that's the third out inning over but not before they're able to draw closer with this blast and this is now a 2-1 ball game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show top six the batter now Xavier Edwards zavier Edwards and he deals the short stop takes the ball you know these Marlins putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the play they really made that opposing starter work in this one ran his pitch count off and now they've got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen next offering misses ball two and no they haven't broken through in a big way in the runs column but with the way they're grinding out at bats it definitely feels like there's potential for more coming the pitch this one marins two and the Nets one well we go bottom six up now for Washington Lane Thomas and the pitch out front and foul to the left side and now the Lefty ball one there one ball one strike that misses and the count two and one the wine of the pitch and another ball Jesse Winker up next for Washington there's a strike stke caught him looking for the K Jesse Winker digging in for the Nationals you know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher what you tell yourself is I want to stay Square to the plate try to hit the ball over the short Stop's head and a sang and a line drive at a right field no trouble here puts it away for the out two away now the leel number Eddie here's the left fielder Eddie Rosario the offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter he's doing his thing out out there they're going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder Off the Mark there ball one and another ball kicks and Deals just missed definitely a frustrating day for the offense but when they look at it this guy's had his best stuff pain in the corners working on the edges and changing speeds just a difficult one you tip your cap that one finds the Zone that's strike one the fish leading by a run here in the bottom of the six and he walked him one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so ball down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it ripped on a line this looks like extra bases Rosario around second headed for third headed for the plate relay throw home and he's out cut down and that ends the inning always exciting to see a play at the plate trying to score with two outs but the tag just gets him in time and they cut down the run to end the inning [Applause] we go to the top of the seven and now the catcher comes up to him Nick fortez down the middle for a strike and it's own and one DC and here he comes tapped at the plate but it's a foul [Applause] ball out and the pitch swing in a popup Garcia drifts towards it he's got it and there's one down so the lineup flips over Jazz Chisum Jr the next up for the Marlins and there's the strike just a bit tardy there not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed try to get him to chase on the change up that time faces empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven that's down and in fought off foul left hand batter Waits that one inside three and two now hanging in there pretty good against the Lefty re balls two strikes the count line drive and that's a base hit so they get a man aboard with a one out single oh this has been a really nice game at the plate for him he looks locked in just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great one gone runner at first and now here's the Marlins DH Brian Del La Cruz Rudder takes off strike in there and that's a stolen base not even close well it seems like 90 ft is such a big deal in a tight one-run game like this one maybe it's a little bit risky but they felt good about it and it paid off let's see if they can turn this into a big run moved to Second and he Dives back in safely man it's second there's the strike at the knees [Applause] at the belt and fires in the air to left down the line and it gets into the corner but it's foul and there's a ball to the right side and it finds its way through for a hit now a long throw home in there he scores it's 3-1 comes through with the RBI not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play that's a team to bat right there nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep Runner on at first with one gone and now the first baseman Josh Bell come on let's get the right through there for a [Applause] [Music] strike that misses the zone and now it's even one and one [Applause] the pitch keeps the back going with a foul ball and a pitch this one popped up Garcia Under it puts it away for the out two down now batt the third Jak Jake burer the next up for the Marlins and the first pitch misses for ball [Applause] one that one is hammered right field Thomas ranging back and it hits the fence rounds third headed for the plate the relay he'll score and they take a three run lead puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI anytime you smoke a ball off the wall you kind of think about what it could have been but obviously you have to be happy with that result now a right-handed arm out of the bullpen Hunter just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the [Applause] game and now Jesu Sanchez over for three with two ground outs and a strikeout and that one fouled off [Music] man on second two down close one doesn't get the call one and one that catches the corner and another ball two outs and one in scored [Applause] position spoils that one and it remains two and two two outs and a swing and a miss good job at damage control right there two runs three hits no errors and one left seventh inning stretch time it's the marins four and the Nats one and it's the catcher for the Nationals Hebert Ruiz it was a homer for him back in the 5ifth just a solo shot but an important swing in this game yeah and it was a beautiful swing as well everything just came together timing wise and he blasted it out of here and that one Clips the corner action in the pen down there AJ Puck the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose Bender also getting ready here comes a pitch and a foul ball well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shutdown inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats the wi of the pitch stays alive Edwards gets it to First and they get the lead off hitter in the seven third banck next to hit for the Nets Nick senzel just off the outside edge ball one [Music] oneall foul ball there the Nationals trailing by three here the bottom of the seven misses the zone and he gets him to chase one ball [Applause] the pitch foul ball still a one and two count here's a high Chopper Edwards to first but it pulls him off the bag the that's a play you expect your short stop to make pretty much every time pretty routine hard to tell if he didn't get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down but that gives this pitch misses one [Applause] DC drilled out towards left center field that's well struck and no one can get there around third he scores and it's now a two-run game safely into second he's got a double well done Narrows the deficit with the RBI there put a pretty good jolt into that one great swing nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the Deep part of the [Applause] field so the N lineup turns over and the batter will be the short stop CJ Abrams one for three and a good eye there as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed a base hit it's probably going to be a big run so you really have to execute on the well he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit but when you've got opportunities to drive in runs you've got to expand the Zone he's capable of going and now this one's a rocket to right way back there gone he powers that one out of here and we have a tie ball game it's 44 listen to these fans this place to score and they take a two-run lead in a nth picks himself up a couple of ribbies got a good pitch to drive stay short with his Bat path to the ball and caught it out front and he stayed long in his Tanner Scott well he's been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that's his first test this looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup Joey Gallow steps to the plate strikes he goes and here's one away well the first batter it's always a big one for the closer I mean you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you're in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you're going to wrap this thing up number 30 batted with one down takes the strike just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days I never would had a chance now a highfly ball out to left Center calls it in for the out
