here in Miami lone Depot Park the show has an NL East matchup it's the Washington Nationals taking on the Miami Marlins John shami alongside Chris Singleton and singy the big bat in the lineup so far this year Brian De La Cruz leads the team in Ops so he's the guy that looks to Slug and basically make things happen for them offensively just a machine in terms of production at the plate he'll take his walks he'll Barrel up the baseball he hit the ball in the gaps he'll hit the ball over the fence so talk about a guy going good that's him right now and he's a bat that you want to stay away from if you're the pitcher just about set to go getting the nod in this one Trevor Rogers try to stay back for that power change up speed differential between the fast ball and the change up is huge hitters they have a hard time staying back here's CJ Abrams to the afternoon for Washington the short CJ ABR as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers pitch misses ball one [Music] that Clips the inside corner for a [Applause] strike swing and a ball lifted left field Dela Cruz calls it in and there's one away as we take a look at the Nationals lineup this group was shut out their last game so we're going to see if they can bounce back with A Better Effort here today and boo it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out you're frustrated you're seeing that consecutive Stak of innings you haven't scored and you want to get off to a great start score early because if you don't you feel like you could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of one down base is empty and there's a foul ball [Applause] [Music] one out base is [Applause] empty just missed well he's not afraid to fall into a two- strike count knows the strike zone very well so much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it's a ball or strike if he swings or not pulls it down and there's two gone it's never fun going back to not everything is in your control and first offering is fouled off Rogers 26 years old and he's one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in New Mexico and misses inside well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way he gets those arms EXT Ed so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside play coverage the line of the pitch and down on strikes he goes and good work there as he gets a one two three Nationals go quietly now the Marlins will see what they can do no score you're dialed into the show back here in Miami and on the B for Washington in this one Jake Irvin what do you look for here well he's not a rookie but still very young in this game learning his craft I think the key is getting consistent reps and the opportunity to develop his stuff looking forward to watching him pitch in this one bottom of the first Lise stands in ch baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to Pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out yeah his swing is so good it's in the zone a long time he gets the barrel to it a lot and the plate early and that sends a message not just to this hitter but to the rest of the lineup as well and a pitch would chase that time [Applause] swing and a ground ball out to short and he can't of those that didn't stay fair but off the bat it looked like it was going to been foul was able to keep it in there tucked it nicely he gets the jog around the base is good for him now it's going to be Jazz Chisum Jr fouls went off out of play back to our left rander kicks deals there's a strike up high and the count is 0 and two two stri [Applause] that one almost got him and the rhander deals that velocity not every hitter's capable of getting that kind of jump off the bat no matter how hard they swing so man aboard and now the short stop Tim Anderson that's inside that's inside well Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count out he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this [Applause] game and he deals and a foul ball it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building that he hasn't issued any free passes unfortunately they're making pretty good contacts so not getting the swings and misses and making that Defense work behind it wouldn't chase that time two balls don't think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much so a man aboard now it's the Nationals cleanup hitter Luis Garcia his first hit bat was a strikeout just missed [Applause] in there at the knees and it's one and one on the ground right side over to Anderson and they get him easily in first it's a double play for me that's one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield the first baseman has to get inside create a throwing Lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there it back to First really good job all the way around and now it's Joey Gallow struck out swinging his first time inside just missed Gallow goes 6' 5 in 250 lbs a former first round pick back in 2012 two down nobody on top half of inning number four slapped hard the other way but foul the pitch ripped towards third fires across the diamond and they take care of Gallow for the out and the inning is over no runs one hit no errors and no one left and Midway in the catch it out front many times if you do it's a foul ball and you know a lot of pitchers they really don't like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter and when they've got him up against the ropes got to figure out a way to put him away did a nice job right there out to Short [Applause] Abrams tosses the first already two gone here in the home for the left strike you know these Nationals just aren't putting great swings on the baseball in this one they're trying to find ways to drive the ball with some Authority but it's just not happening for him so far zero extra base hits in the game so it's been tough for him to get anything going sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through but it's a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there late swing foul to the left one down base is empty fouled off to the [Applause] right leftand hitter Waits center field pitches in there and that's strike one you know these Marlins putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the play it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early get him out of the game before he settles in so I'd say mission accomplished the pitch and another [Applause] ball that one missing explanation can't say he's convinced but it looks like he's accepted it that one misses and that's ball three he's really tightening up his Hitting Zone with two strikes here I love it got him swinging boo if you can set up a good two strike splitter with the fast ball on the previous pitch it's going to be so tough to recognize and adjust your swing to get a piece of clearly had him the Zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don't get it great it's still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder that one finds the zone and the count is 0 and [Applause] two and that's a strike out looking strike three
