welcome to Lincoln Nebraska home of the Corn Huskers and home to some of the most loyal fans in the sport where once again Memorial Stadium will be sold out this matchup Today part of the lifeblood of the sport a rivalry game where the results will be remembered for a lifetime as we'll see a squad from the Big 12 the Colorado Buffalo taking on a team from the Big 10 the Nebraska Corn Husker for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Applause] started the Huskers will put total WEA to crank a up from inside the 15 chance for a good return couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 so Colorado's offense takes the field for the first time today these rivalry games can really get the blood pumping and we'll see who can manage their emotions best early everyone's been waiting for this game right you know both of these teams have had this game circled all the way back to the beginning of the off SE so you got to be a able to play Under Control with passion with energy with hatred because it's a rivalry game but keep your emotions in check and making sure I'm controlling what I can [Applause] control and the Buffalo come to the line in the hurry up the give to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple yeah I think the running back kind of went rogue on that last running play I'm not sure it was designed to go that direction he tried to make it happen on his own and unfortunately ended up losing yards this crowd bringing the energy and noise early back to throw it's Sanders that was almost picked off and what a disaster that would have been to throw a KCK on the opening drive instead it's fourth down you just got to wonder too guys if the crowd didn't impact the offense they playing on the road on the first third down of this football game incomplete the idea here I think just punt it away and see if you can regroup because this environment is hostile he will signal for the fair Catch and take it just inside the 35 the Corn Huskers offense will have its first possession of the game here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play he's going to go for a big one oh he can't hang on to the football a big play sitting right there for the taking and they can't get it done early in this one well on defense they know this offense is going to try and take shots they're going to try and keep their secondary players in a position to make these types of plays good job on the back and forcing that incompletion on the run it's Irving just sort of a Relentless run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 now staring at a third and short from the [Applause] 40 now they'll run the draw he's able to fight his way for a couple of yards but it'll be fourth down in three and the Huskers will try to pin them back with the punt [Applause] on the return it's horn everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field hand off to the lone back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and a great job by the linebacker you can tell starting to crowd the line scrimage get up there in line of scriage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss the buffalos want to crank the tempo running back searching for a hole pretty good job of running to get two there to the 32 they have had to wear that beat down since the last time these two met Jesse they've been talking about it for a long time they were absolutely embarrassed the players the coaches the fans you know David coming into this game this time they want to put out a much better performance oh there's nothing worse the coaches are riding you all week leading up into this game reminding you show going to throw it over the top of the deep and the Deep shot is complete inside the 35 yd line what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in and the buffalo's getting set on First and 10 he's going to pass makes the catch it's h he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and I think you're seeing these guys in offense now these little are guys that they're so quick it's hard to get a hand on them run Cris routs you can throw it short you can throw it long but they're just big time Playmakers you've definitely seen an emphasis shift towards smaller wide receivers with some serious skill on the ground it's Hayden and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pickup on that play it's really frustrating you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy on the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense where now they got a a manageable situation leaves it with the back here just trying to bash It Forward he got a couple it's down at the 11 [Applause] boy they'd love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal he'll keep it himself and that Ball's on the ground behind the line it's as if that ball had a magnet going back to the offense how in the world did they keep it that ball carrier is very lucky that easily could have ended up in the hands of the defense you have got to do a better job with ball security they'll try to salvage a field goal on this drive it is perfect and the first points of the day come on that field goal so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the corn Oscar's ready to go back to work on offense trying to turn the corner on the right on the move at the 30 gets it to the 42 yd line and that's a first down well the defense knew coming into this one Reese that this team was going to try to use their speed and take advantage of it and they did right there nice gain on the Run play to the right found plenty of Running Room in that defense they've got to find a way to get there and make the tackle in the open field yeah and they got to do a good job with their eyes finding the football and they've got to get a lot of bodies to this guy cuz he is fast fast motion from the offense might as well give it to him again they'll pick up four second and Six coming listen I know that's not a huge game but those run plays add up they make you tackle the back every single play physically you have to get some guy on the ground it takes its toll throughout a fourth quarter game solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six On The Run it's Irving tackle was made at the 44 but he picked up 10 yards and up for a first down well when you talk Nebraska football it always comes down to their ability running it on offense whether it's the option or whether it's conventional they've got a long and illustrious history of great running backs and this guy is on the field for a reason his vision his ability to make people Miss run with toughness he can do it all hand off from the gun we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up I know you want to prepare for every game the same way but there's just something different about rivalry games Jesse it's because ree I think players are aware that games like this Define your legacy as a player your record in rivalry games is something that people are going to talk about for years and years down the road you have got to show up and play your best football in games like this draws are such a smart way to take advantage of fast defensive lineman they want to get up field and get after the quarterback it keeps them honest makes them realize they got to play the run too great play call after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again they'll try to pick it up on the ground just what they had hoped for on third down as they've got a first at the 32 basic run plays I don't I don't need a complicated stuff sometimes I just need to get the first down and get the sticks [Applause] moving the cornar come to the line with a new set of downs moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust the short hands it's Fone and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup I just love the job this offensive line is doing in this game communicating priest snap they know where the pass rush is coming from and they're working their single and double teams and not giving up any ground just look how clean that pocket was for the quarterback to throw from trying the left side they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out lost yardage on that last when it's second and [Applause] 11 quarterback on the keeper that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a two see if they can pull it off to throw it's Rola throws to the wide out oh he just flat dropped it he had the ball and didn't look it all the way in and it'll be fourth down and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third and long so hard to execute especially when the field starts to shrink but the good news is they got a field goal in their back pocket and on fourth down they'll try to salvage the drive with a field goal [Applause] it's good and after the three spot guys we all tied up and we're all swear as he set to kick it away [Applause] from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back and he did a good job bobbing and weaving and finding a little bit of Running Room on that return Colorado has the ball back and the buffalo's hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense cross the 30 out to the 33 and gains four on the play [Applause] and the buffalo's racing to the line in the hurry up the hand to the running back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carry and a great job by the defensive line getting some p push making them use their resources on him linebacker comes free Bo and making the back field for a tackle for a loss better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down to the air it's Sanders feeling some heat and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf QBs and receivers on third down everything has to happen just a split seconds sooner You're Expecting pressure the quarterback gets hit just down on the same page with this target the Buffalo will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll take it on the return and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive first play of this drive comes from the 35 yd line looking for space it's Irving and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down some misdirection with the counter and how about that interior defense stopping the run for nothing stopping the run is about physicality it's about I'm bigger than you I'm stronger than you up front really nice job by the defense showing their strength bowing up stuffing the run if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down man what a break on the football he read that the whole way he just couldn't finish it you know he saw the end zone he saw the grass in front of him to break on that and maybe take it to the house but just a missed opportunity the Huskers will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return coming he'll call for the fair Catch and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field l throw on first down he tosses one high and deep down the left side he's got it downfield for a huge game man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different and the buffalos will hustle to the line keeping it on the ground with the running back you definitely want to commit to the Run game you you want to establish the Run game you want the defense to honor it but if it doesn't work a little later down the road you might think about airing that puppy out didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they give it to him again productive four yd gain there on the ground as he gets it down to the [Applause] 31 Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down back to throw it's Sanders fires it beautifully in on the Crosser and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep him from getting the first down well that's why this guy's one of the best receivers in the country even when he's double covered he's open he's able to make the catch and get the first down and the buffalos are on the move looking for a crease it's Hayden they'll give him maybe one on the play it's down to the 20 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he'll run it again knocked down but not before he crossed into the Red Zone and picked up four yards down to the 17 third down and this crowd will blow out a vocal cord to help this defense from the gun wants to pass and the misconnection on third down obviously when you're playing in weather like this the ball is very slippery and it's hard to catch the QB threw a bullet that time and his receiver just could not reel it in and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight and he'll try to keep that smooth leg swing going for the second time today this one from 34 yards out splits the upright it's good and with that field goal they now have the lead after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to [Applause] go he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field trying to find his man on first down got it behind the line it's Banks and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up defense man it helps you a lot when you can be a linebacker or a corner or some safety anybody and you see the QB throw the football now I can break on the football right away and limit gains like right here on this play looking to throw it's Rola final play of the quarter and the ball Falls incomplete guys Colorado has the lead here one period in the books and let's take a look at the steps they've swapped into the field and we're ready to go in the second they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long he has to throw for it and he drops it just a little too slippery in the hands well the receiver getting a little ahead of himself on that one you saw him calling for the ball he thought he was is wide open he thought that was going to be an easy catch the ball finally gets to him and he drops it if you're going to call for the ball like that and call your shot you've got to secure the catch fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fair catch just inside the 40 looking to go up top on first down got the Quick Pass he stopped just a chain link or two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here I really like the slot receiver and I understand he's not the biggest guy in the world but he just runs really good routes and he's always under control he can run option rounds he can run double moves he does a great job cutting and he's dangerous after the catch nice weapon to have work in the middle of the field out of the gun the inside give PS through the defense just dismissing tackles really nice pick up on that one as they get it to the 36 it'll be first down and that is exactly why you stick to running the football haven't had a lot of success but boom you pop one right that's what you got to do you got you cannot become onedimensional and just throw the football every down love the offense stick to the Run nice job getting the first down [Applause] off the RPO complete he make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first [Applause] down the buffalo's in the hurry up wants to throw it's Sanders receiver looks it in it's complete and they do a really good job not as easy as it looks to get those blocks and he picks up the first down it is so good for an offense early in the game to get in a rhythm and to start stringing first downs together it makes the game really easy and puts that defense in a situation where they're starting to get tired they want to sub they want to get other guys on the field stringing first downs together like this makes it hard to defend a run up the middle is stuck for No Gain well they want to come out and try to get the Run game established but UPF front defensively they made a play they gave up nothing on that one got to find some breathing room if you're going to establish yourself on the ground and there wasn't any that time yeah ree I wonder now if this offense is maybe going to try to get to the perimeter of the field and see if they can use their speed to hurt this defense keep it on the ground he's dro behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three man how about that defense on the snap they are in the back field with great penetration nowhere to go for the running back that defense was sitting on G waiting on o Dees Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down looking down field and he needs a bunch snags it over the middle and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion whoopy do you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and celebrate it is good they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away from inside the 10 here he comes really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the cornar ready to go back to work on offense going to run it it's irvan crosses the 30 he's got Lane that's the kind of play that can really get you going as they get it out to the 36 that's a great looking run there Nebraska's had such a great lineage running back when you think back to the great Roger Craig or Aman green Lawrence Phillips Rex Burkhead they always seem to be pumping somebody up into the NFL this guy has a chance to play on Sunday because of his skills they're going to ride this running back you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six power football with the run and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go man nowhere to run on that play at all about all you can say is do better but that's the problem are they able to do better and that's why you keep trying things right keep trying to get on the perimeter running up the middle try different things to see what you do well they try to pop a run on the draw Gets behind those pads picks up four on the play but it's still a fourth down and three and the Huskers will send out the punt unit not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Colorado has the ball back and the Buffalo hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense a knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point and the buffalo's moving quickly to the line dropping back it's Sanders pressure coming got away from trouble and got rid of it and he dropped it it looked for all the world like that would be a catch and he just got too excited well he did a good job getting to the middle of the field that's where the off to attack on that play he's just got to do a better job looking that football in better find the ear plugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass he lobs one high down the left side and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chain they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's fourth down well the defender got his hand on that one tipped it up in the air and offense man they're lucky that one was and the buffalos decide to pun it away they'll look to pin him [Applause] deep fair catch is called for in the midst of all this range is concentrate on one thing making the catch leaves it with the running back and he's almost to that first down marker there saying he's a little bit short they might want to bring out the sticks and measure but it looks as if he'll be just short of the first down and the entire Playbook is wide open on second and short like this they move the tight end all over the G out of the gun at the 35 he's open they are finding soft spot in this defense he's got it down to the 25 and with that run goes over 100 yards we knew coming into this game tonight they wanted to force feed him the football they knew to win the game they were going to have to establish the running game and be the more physical team in the trenches you turn around and give this guy the ball good things generally happen and we've seen that over the course of this game quarterback just flat and missed him incomplete that is one when they watch film next week that that receiver is going to wish he had back that quarterback had all day to throw the football that was basically seven on seven there was no one near the QB receivers got to make the catch now on second down after the incompletion it's a draw and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pickup these are the ones in the stands where you get booed if it doesn't work work why would you run the ball in second and long you stink OC or you get the big Applause and you're like yes nice job keeping the manageable third down situation good call so tough spot to be in in second long nice answer nice run by the running back they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker wrestled to the ground after picking up the first down well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off and make tackles couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run play this first half of offense won't go on the Highlight Reel so far but starting to get things moving it's first and 10 and he wses in for the score touchdown Huskers and what a push up front by this offensive line everyone playing in unison driving out of their stance working into the second level hats on that's creating a lane for that running back ready to try the point [Applause] after and and the extra point puts him on top 10 to nine so that scoring Drive took only six plays and it was punctuated by an 11 yd Run for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] drive on the run from inside of zone five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 and the Colorado offense is coming back back onto the field he'll start this drive firing throws to the tight end got his man they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones you got to get him involved the buffal want to move quickly hand off from the shotgun we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long you saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical enough after picking up a couple at second and eight back to pass it's Sanders fires to the wide out complete to the left he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down quarterback and receiver on the same page there on the crow route nice job by the receiver finding the soft spot in zone and just settling down making that throw a whole bunch easier and the buffalos will snap it on First and 10 [Applause] grabbed behind the line it's horn man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out let's see what they've got on second down he's looking to throw just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the [Applause] loss Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down it'll be a draw he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple while the linebacker showing you read and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football to the line of scrimmage and forc the tfl and the buffalos will line up to PL it [Applause] away and The Return Man will have no chance as the ball sails out of bounds and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field you like oldfashioned grind it up run over and football that last touchdown Drive was for you Jesse that was impressive man great blocking up front and tough physical running by these ball carriers D and now you wonder how the defense responds like are they going to get way more aggressive to try to stop the run I got to do something to break the rhythm of that running game the offense lines up at the 40 they've got a first down back to pass it's Rola makes his connection and a quick completion an even quicker loss the defense was right there to knock him down he was not fooled on that one you know a lot of times you want to buy space and you throw this route really when it's off coverage but you could tell the quarterback was up ready to come pounce on that screen and get the tackle [Applause] for he'll try to pop the draw he's knocked down in the back Back Field he'll lose a couple you can't let the same guy beat you over and over and over again you got to make adjustments sometimes you got to bring more guys in the Box more guys to the football and make sure he's not the one who beat you I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next [Applause] County on Third and long no secret what he needs here grabbed in the back field it's Banks and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker you know I got to tell you as an offense moving forward in this game third and long you're going to have to push the ball downfield a little bit more you got to throw to the sticks and give yourself a chance to convert these third Downs the cornar will punt this one away they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today here's the fair Catch and he'll make it close to the 20yd line Colorado has the ball back and the Buffalo hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense the give to the back at the 35 he's got room he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense I bet that running back's eyes got so big when he gets that hand off going to the right and he sees the huge holes yes please the defense just didn't flow quickly enough all of the blockers had leverage on their and that defensive line has to get off the ball a little bit better get some penetration to stop that outside run they're working that left side makes that one pay off and they finally get him down at the 38 it'll be first down yeah I don't know defensively if you want to keep giving this guy that much cushion because when he gets the ball in space he's able to shake all these Defenders and turns a 5yd completion into a first down the buffalos want to pick up the tempo we've reached the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the half they're lining up on First and 10 from the [Applause] 38 he wants to throw trying to get to him that quarterback was doing his has Houdini escaping in the back field but the defense finally gets to it it has been said that the other team's quarterback must go down and he must go down hard and he did and often is good too the most you can get to him but great job by the defense rushing the quarterback understanding pass and getting the big fell on the ground dropping back it's Sanders it's complete on the right right side finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down you know and that's why this guy can play first second and third down you've already seen him earlier in the drive rip off some nice runs but he can catch the football as well and they're going to find ways to get him going in all sorts of ways but you're seeing it specifically on this drive they'll throw it on first down through his hands and incomplete he normally makes that catch every time it's second down the offense uses a timeout to stop the clock and they'll get a quick breather he's looking for a man on second down pocket starts to collapse good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the [Applause] loss they were on the move but two straight incompletions have them staring at third and 10 from the gun wants to pass it's caught he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming this kicker's leg is getting a workout he's already made three field goals and here he comes again it is is true as he puts three on the board and guys after the field goal now they have the lead after putting up a three spot the kickoff unit set to go looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and the return man showing great vision to be able to find some space and put his team in much better field position they'll crank up this drive with a pass unloads to the wide out and the pass is incomplete but the flag flies and there was a lot of early contact [Applause] there how many times you think they're going to run that one back in film study don't do that don't do that don't do that that's a penalty that's a penalty that's a penalty it'll be a long film study for him and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down I don't know if the quarterback read the coverage properly on that one but obviously the result is an incompletion and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense looking to pass it's Rola fires to the right he's got it they're ripping off chunks of yardage they get it to the 33 a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half and this set of downs get started from the 3 first and 10 he's looking to throw it and they dialed up a shot play but they couldn't hook up you know the saying no risk it no biscuit if you want big plays on offense you've got to be able to take shots they didn't hit that one but moving ahead in the second half expect this offense to keep dialing them up after the incompletion let's see if they go back to the air on second and 10 from the 33 couldn't connect on first down now back to the air got it in the middle it's Irving listen running backs are not just running backs anymore you're going to be a wide receiver in today's football and a great job sneaking out of the back field getting him the football letting them get some positive yards a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 there's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half so with only seconds left in the half here comes the field goal unit [Applause] no good and with that Miss still down by a deuce and missing an opportunity to take the lead that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halftime update phy is what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good old-fashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen and panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out kickoff and kickoff return teams on the field and we are just about ready to go in the second half he'll start the return inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the corn Oskar ready to go back to work on offense they start this third quarter one possession game and hoping to get an early drive going this offense is ready and they're ready to take the field here and see if they can get something established they don't have to change everything and reinvent the wheel they've had some successes in the first half so let's get that continued here on the opening gr yeah and I love getting that break at half to go talk with my coaches and pick my offensive coordinator's brain so I know exactly what I need to do to attack this defense and I get ball first he'll try the outside to the left he's drop behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three I love DBS that want a tackle and they get an opportunity to look like Heroes on these outside toss plays physical play by the corner there getting the ball carried down behind the line of scrimmage last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 looking for man it's Rola he's got his man they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down coaches always tell their quarterbacks you can't go broke taking a profit you can't always hit posts and bombs deep down the field if the coverage takes away throws down field just take what's underneath and let your receiver Advance the football from the gun on third down and the incomplete pass pass will bring up fourth down well after struggling so much in the first half you thought they would have made some adjustments here at halftime to see if they can open up this passing game but early on in the second half they just not really able to get that done incompletion on third down and your own end you're expecting them to punt the Huskers line up to punt it away and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the day signals for the fair Catch and makes it at the 20 and the Colorado offense is coming back on to the field man oh man these offenses just haven't been able to find any room to get things going David and to quote the great philosopher reys Davis this is very UNG good just nothing working for this offense Palmer they got to find something well the plays look good against the scout team during the week in practice but they have just not been able to find a rhythm against this defense today and the Buffalo are in the hurry up on second down wants to throw quick strike [Applause] complete they'll try to muscle their way forward on third and short from the 29 looking for a man it's Sanders throws to the wide out just masterful working that sideline and getting the toe down for the catch well he was licking his chops as soon as he saw Blitz he knew some guy was trying to cover him manto man ain't going to happen with his skill set he's one of the best in the country and that is just way too easy and the buffalos come to the line with a fresh set of downs they'll throw it on first down with the catch it's har really nice job there by both guys to throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down tight ends nowadays they're oversized wide receivers they they run routes like wide receivers they make people Miss now in space they're just they're guys that are now featured in where in the past that wasn't the case the buffal are on the move to the air on first down fires to the tight end and good coverage by the defense just a short gain they're able to find the tight end for an easy completion but good job tackling not allowing him to get the first down they get to the line quickly he'll ride his man on the option and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play well you love to see that from the defense right it's like Ben don't break they've given up a bunch of plays on strive but now that they're getting down close to field goal range you're seeing them start to stiffen up yeah and plays don't matter anymore yards don't matter all that matter with these defenses nowadays is points and limiting them on Third and long try to convert through the air lets his slip right through his hands and it'll be forth down after the rare drop from this dude yeah and third and short that choose not to run throw the the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in Feld goal range they can take the three points on the board and the buffal will punt it away on fourth down they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today he'll get away another punt he's been really active today and no doubt he's going to earn his varsity lad and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the [Applause] field now they'll try the right side he hits that hole it opened up for him as he gets six and all the way out to the nyd line well this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage early got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four the give to the left side drives into the pile just a pick up of one they'll spot it at the 10 this is the type of play that can give the offense momentum third and short from inside the 20 they'll move the running back to try to force the defense to adjust they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster that's a great great job executing up front by the defense they looked like they were ready for that play and that was a bit of a more unconventional look from the offense on third down but the defense was there to make a big stop and the Huskers send out the punt unit so from his own in zone the punt is away boy that seemed to be prime return territory instead he'll make the fair catch Colorado has the ball back and the Buffalo hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense trying to get behind the defense and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it this defense has a lot of speed especially in the secondary and you saw that speed that Defender got to that receiver so quick and because of the hit incomplete pass couldn't connect on that last play now second and 10 from the 42 looking downfield it's Sanders going back to the well another deep ball and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have held on Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass he'll take another shot here and trying to put points on the board on third down now they're staring at fourth down it's so nice when you know it's third and long you know a pass is coming you worked on it all week get your feet set at the sticks understand that quarterback's got to be rushed get him off of his spot nice execution by this defense and the buffalos will try to pin them back with the punt they're up to a half dozen kicks today and that one will Sail Out of Bounds no chance for a return there the corn Oscars ready to go back to work on offense out of the gun the running back has it he's drop behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three you know the one thing you can say about this defense they pursue the football the first guy might miss the second guy might miss but there's going to be more and more hats flying to the ball carryer you saw it on that play getting the tackle for loss not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 they're looking for an advantage to the right he's loose at the 15 and chunk plays of the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the [Applause] stop it's first down from their own 23 yd line looking for room it's Irving finds his way ahead for five and now they've got it at the 28 I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make him know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively halfway there on first down it's second and five they've been running it but now the pass grab near the marker it's n this freshman quarterback has a host did he Zing that thing in there when you get man coverage you definitely like taking advantage of the inside really quickly running a nice slant rack real quick being physical getting on the inside quarterback putting it right on the money the corkers are moving quickly down the field they're bringing heat and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes nice coverage on the back end great job nothing open right away the QB holds the ball in the pocket and the pass rush finally gets home sometimes it's the DBS doing great work sometimes it's the defensive linean winning up front they'll snap it from the 25 here on second and long the give to the tail back still running at the 40 and he won't quite get there but boy after that pick up just a few inches to go for the first and array of possibilities here this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 the playaction fake quickly out to the tight end nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 and listen that's why I love why they're not abandoning the Run game I know they're trailing right now but it doesn't mean you got to quit on it they've had success running it on this drive and I think because of that you go play action on third down you freeze the linebackers you're able to get that completion to keep this drive going and give yourself an opportunity to get back in this one got three on first down it's second and seven movement here from the tight end here's the hand off using that running game to budge and forward he's got four down to the 35 they're trying to extend this already long drive the ninth play is a third and three trying to pick it up on the ground and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt splits the uprights right down the middle and after the field goal guys they are back on top well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do from inside the 15 here comes the return not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 going up top on first down a little screen to the running back and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play love the execution there in the screen the running back shows pass protect pass protect last second turns around so he's able to get the ball the D linan have already run past him now he can turn up field for a big Gainer the buffalo's headed quickly to the [Applause] line looking downfield it's Sanders and just a flat misfire not even close to his [Applause] receiver better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down they'll try to pick up the first through the air another incompletion on third down all right so third and one and I throw the football and I'm on offense that makes me think I'm going for it on fourth down anyways and so now I can run my run play try to take a shot try to catch the defense napping but now you got a fourth down and CH and the buffalos will call on their punt team he'll try to really get into this one fair catch called for and taken at the 30 yd line and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field you want to talk about having a weapon to bail out and drive David that's why kickers are so important after that long field goal and listen important is a relative term we need to make longer passes and get better gains so we don't have to kick long field goals Palmer again on offense and they've got the weapons to do that David they just got to be able to dial those plays up guys have to be able to make them oneon-one to make life easier on this kicker who is so important to this team he's got it down the middle they make to stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks so an example of a tight end doing a little unheralded work to set up a much better third down situation and I like the QB here Reese I like the decision where I understand let's get this football out let's get some positive yards and then get to third down and we can still have a better situation now because we got rid of the football and took the yards that were there makes the grab that'll be enough for a first down as he crosses the 50 and gets it to the 48 this tight end is such a weapon because he can line up all over the field that time he starts in the slot he's running the corner route against Zone coverage and he's just got athleticism and wiggle and the ability to separate and make big plays so nice to have a Target like that they make the tackle at the 33 but he's ripped off 15 yds and picked up a first down the Huskers are flying down the [Applause] field he'll come out throwing on first down can't hang on and he'll tell you he really should have made that catch and he had an opportunity right in the middle it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again looking for a physical attack from the gun makes a man miss and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good gain before the stop is made here they come up to the 23 yd line not thinking field goal wanting to conver this third and short he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs those little chunks keep annoying the crud out of you when you're on defense it's just putting them in Easy situations chewing up four to six yards at a pop like that put you in a bad situation as a defensive coordinator what do I call either way priority number one we got to stop the run wide receiver shows motion trying the run it's urb I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all operating in the Red Zone here on second [Applause] down from the gun they'll try to impose their will they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well this defense obviously knows they have to be able to stop the run now in the second half if they're going to win this game and you wonder if they were able to make some tweaks and some adjustments at halftime maybe getting some more bodies close to the line of scrimmage to give themselves a chance to come back in this game they want to continue this long drive ninth play coming it's third and five it's a draw he's drop behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three if you like old school running games this has been the game for you and a couple of guys who starred through the first three [Applause] periods one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot it's good [Applause] they'll k it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field takes a hand off it's Hayden he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three yeah and this offense has to find a way to run the football they got to get more creative but whatever that looks like for this offense something to jump start them because nothing really going on the ground yeah defensively though you got to give them credit too because they knew that physically they were going to try to be challenged up front that was a Big Mo for this offense coming into it but the defense they've risen to the occasion their front seven has dominated this entire game fires to the wide out connection to the right there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down that QB is absolutely going to buy all the hog moles up front a steak dinner tonight my goodness when you have that much time in the pocket I think I could be successful and I don't even like quarterbacks or want to play quarterback and the buffalos come to the line in the hurry up looking to move it through the air makes the grab it's hor this has their work cut out for him man because the coverage has been so tight and if you're not throwing to the sideline or you're not getting past the sticks this defense is going to tackle you inbounds like they just did on that last play and bleed the clock that completion leaves us with second and medium they'll try the Run they got him at the 42 but he got five yards on the play you know they Pride themselves on being physical at the point of attack dominating at the line of scrimmage nice job there picking up the first down the buffalos are marching down the field might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coord you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense six yard pickup on first down leaves him with second and four he'll do it himself he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle penetrate what a great first step he shot right through the offensive line and got the tfl these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down to the air it's Sanders going to try to pop one on the screen he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screen and behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play they'll give it to the back on the move it's a 30 and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 defensively you'll take the slow death you'll take three four five yards a pop but but you can't give up the massive plays you got to do a better job containing the football making them run the guys and get him on the ground for goodness sakes this guy is fast I know but defensively we got to swarm to the football and get him on the ground comes out throwing on first down it's incomplete and trust me you will not see that very often from this guy it's second down hopefully that's not going to affect the quarterback's confidence going back to this guy later that was a catch he should have made he dropped it let's see what the QB does moving forward line getting set on second [Applause] down he'll pull it on the read nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car I just love the way the defense prepares each and every week we see this defense come out and it's like 11 guys they've got their head in the game and they're playing as one unit they knew it was going to be tough facing this option game with the quarterback in the running attack but they've just done such a good job so far staying home playing their assignments you saw it on that last play right there rallying to the football nowhere for him to go and creating a big loss it's third down it's money down and you can just tell something wasn't right from the get go with that play and you know it strung along and the option just didn't work and the defense was very successful fourth down coming for this offense and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot between the uprights it's good so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 the cor Oskar ready to go back to work on offense guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win after the productive first down play it's second and six scanning the field it's Rola unloads to the Wi out got him down field he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down this is why quarterbacks always take care of their offensive line This is why they feed them in the off season invite them to the house buy them gifts take care of the big boys because they take care of you and those numbers start to pile [Applause] up from the gun the ground game really nice stop there from this senior leader this offensive line better figure out a plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last play picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they go to the ground and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down well they get another big run for a first down and if you're on offense you love the way your offensive line is blocking early in this game they are getting tremendous movement and they're making life pretty easy for these running backs right now looking for room it's irvan noses ahead to the 30 yard line to pick up of one didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine trying to surprise him with the pass catch in the middle it's Foo really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down love the play call offensively because you've got the lead the defense expect you to run the ball you just did it the previous play so there you dial up play action set up an easy throw and you keep the clock ticking and the Huskers have it with a first and 10 they'll go to the ground they finally make the stop but the big run is plenty to move those sticks for the first down and when the offense can run the football and you can feature a guy like this that will get more yards in Block that you can really on hangs on to the football like it makes offense super easy especially down the stretch when you want to eat that clock and you want to possess the football just nice to have that kind of guy and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now now a second and long coming back to throw it's rova he's got and he won't be able to push his way in he stopped at the one the these guys are called matchup guys they're not the biggest guys on the field but they're going to win short and they're going to catch the ball and they're going to make yards after the catch you can tell those are the type of guys in college football that are starting to get maximized and used a lot more than they were in the past a designed Run for the quarterback that just never had a chance as they controlled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down man if I'm quarterback right now after this long of a drive down this close I'm going for a touchdown here p and I get that but I've worn this defense out man I'm going to go for the touchdown right here and if I miss they got to go the whole length of the field to score a touchdown spit uprights [Applause] good so after the field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their defense and he takes this from inside the five and the returner is stopped Colorado has the ball back and the Buffalo hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense give to the back danced his way through traffic pick up of four to the 19 and the Buffalo want to crank the [Applause] tempo looking to throw it's Sanders oh goes right through his hands and he will think about that one for a while be third down o there's there's an example Jesse of a receiver making his quarterback look bad most of the time and make it look good and cover up for him all those balls y'all don't throw online but that would hit him in a pretty good spot he needs to come down with one on third down he drops to throw he's got an open man and he breaks into the open he's at the 10 touchdown bucks they've got the lead here in the fourth yeah and a nice job in the fourth quarter making plays and a nice job being on the same page QB receiver you could tell he broke with the football he caught it in stride gets into the end zone nice pitch and catch right there nice Chemistry by the QB and wide receiver needs this one to push the lead to a field goal and it's good and he pushes the lead to three quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they top it off by going up top 81 yards on the touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away here's the return from inside is 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field and a settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they'd love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to extion too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here D yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points didn't get much on first down it's second and nine give to the running back getting that push a pick up of four out to the 26 now looking for that first down on Third and short from the 26 to the air it's Rola the EAS going foral fires and picked off looking for more room and they'll close in on him after a good return on the inter ction what a nice play by the DB there when that rain starts coming down the ball gets a little bit heavier the quarterback throws the ball a little bit lighter DBS can take advantage sometimes of some underthrown balls go out and make some big plays and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field [Applause] from the gun the running back has it yeah and he's been dependable havn't he like just he's been a guy that they've given him the ball a lot he's just been so productive given this offense an easy way to move the football down the field 97 yards on the day linebacker shuffling around trying to keep the quarterback from getting a read the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting down hill and getting in the back field and making a tackle for a loss big third down as the crowd Gets behind this defense from the gun wants to pass all kinds of room to throw that one in there he's got enough for the first down they'll spot him at the 24 yd line boy the defense really needed to get off the field there and they just couldn't do it and it's a fresh set of downs man that hurts when you're trailing late in the ball game you need those stops and you get them to third down you get them to those critical points now they get the first down you don't have many left you better get aggressive he's going to pass they've avoided the interception all day but they're lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down oh you're living dangerously now you've got the lead late in the game don't do anything to turn it over and they almost did throwing it there if I'm the head coach now I'm thinking man let's just run the ball they'll try again on second down after the incompletion looking to throw it's Sanders nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away and that's a big play for the defense playing at home you're trailing you need to create takeaways you got to get the ball back nice job breaking on that one and knocking it away this defense forcing them to throw into Windows they need another stop on Third and long they're going to throw it again didn't have anything working and just had to throw it away on third down and this is why it's so nice to have a guy under Center you can trust you understand the situation third and love I want to go get this first down but I'm in field goal range I got a chance to go up by more than a field goal nice job throwing the football away when he didn't see the look he so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world just drives it between the uprights so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 the corners ready to go back to work on offense they'll start this drive with a pass makes the grab it's going and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the location of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning we've reached the two-in warning and the defense needs to come up with a stop to close this thing out it'll be a first down from the 49 yard line dropping back it's Rola and he'll Chuck it into the cheap seats there and save the down nobody getting open there hey Lon that's hard for an offense when you're trailing late in a game you've got to throw to get back in the defense already knows it anyway on on top of that you've got this weather that you have to deal with these conditions are not conducive to playing pitch and catch this is a big uphill battle for this offense he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete third and long defense knows the pass is coming so they're going to have guys with their eyes on the QB but they are going to try to get to him with pressure pinning their ears back if you're on offense you might be thinking Blitz here you better get rid of this one quick boy guys they got to a great start with that big first play on this drive but now a couple of incompletions leaves him in a hole another incompletion on third down I know they've got all their timeouts left but it feels like this is the ball game right here fourth down the quarterback's got to do something special knowing that they need a touchdown here to win time is not on their side down six late fourth down l they'll have to get this to stay in it desperate to convert and he'll throw it can't find his man it'll be incomplete and that is a heartbreaker this late in the game here's this offense with a fresh set of downs he want that clock to run he is going nowhere sto at the line of scrimmage timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible ordinarily on second and 10 you might look past but here you just want to keep that clock moving from the gun they'll try the middle he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense they're down to the 35 on First and 10 out of the gun the give to the back and he'll pick up the first down after a tough run there defense uses a time out quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense and the Buffalo will snap it on First and 10 and the quarterback's just going to take a knee for for e e for for e for
