welcome to San Marcos Texas home of the Texas State Bobcats a place widely known as one of the continuously inhabited sites in America and we expect our crowd to continually inhabit and make their presence known in this game there's nothing quite like a great rivalry matchup in college football the bitterness the intensity the lifetime of memories that will come as a result of what we're about to see in this one as we'll see a squad from the AAC the UTSA road runners taking on a team from the Sun Belt the Texas State Bobcats for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Bobcats offense will have the first possession of the game these rivalry games can really get the blood pumping and will'll see who can manage their emotions best early everyone's been waiting for this game right you know both of these teams have had this game circled all the way back to the beginning of the off seon so you got to be able to play Under Control with passion with energy with hatred because it's a rivalry game but keep your emotions in check and making sure I'm controlling what I can control and the Bobcats want to move quickly they'll run it out of the shotgun just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two the biggest lie college football coaches tell is nameless faceless oppon David game like this you know their name and you know their face you know them well and it does mean just a little bit more because it's bragging rights like the rivalries matter so much all throughout the year all the fans talking about this game in particular that's why it means more and that's why these players will be jacked out of their minds really nice job to get it past the sticks pick up the first down at the 30 it's a really good sign if you're on offense here you're putting it on your offensive line on third down critical down and distance opening drive of the game let those guys fire off get a hat on a hat you can run the ball pick up the first you're around Midfield all things looking pretty good here early for this offense leaves it with the back stopped after a pick up of four good run to get it out to the 34 nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six they'll try the run good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets up to the 38 yd line I think you run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High sucess they plow ahead with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster and that seemed a little off from the start didn't it that was a big time play and it was off from the start because of the play he made and I don't think it would have who was playing running back there was absolutely nowhere to go fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way cover guys do their job and they get him stopped at the 22 yd line the road runers offense has its first opportunity of the day here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching stabs this week and we them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys of the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed and the road runners in the hurry [Applause] up looking for a man it's maau snags it over the middle at the 40 there he goes they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down good job by the receiver there not to run into coverage but to find a spot that the quarterback can throw him the ball yeah on those types of routes ree they say if you're looking you're booking so if that's man coverage the receiver staring at the quarterback all the way across the field that time the receiver didn't give the quarterback his eyes so they were on the same page they both knew his Zone and they executed that perfectly trying to get to it hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David in a game like this just goes way and I think managing the emotions in these type of games you know last year was a CL now you're trying to form this year's identity of this team and go out and get a win in a big time rivalry game well they try to go withraw they didn't catch the defense blitzing so it wasn't a great look anyway but up front they just got beat regardless and that back David had nowhere to go he had nowhere to go but those offensive linemen you got to set and you got to invite those defensive linemen up the field and kind of push them by and you could tell they didn't do that they didn't lets it fly deep down field and good cover there to knock it away and deny the score well it looked like that might be the first touchdown of the game but what a great job by the defender seeing the football and swatting it [Applause] away the road runners will line up to pun it away first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon looking for a block it's Wilson and they'll get him down after the return at the Y Line Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense they're going to throw it to start the drive got the Quick Pass and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one QB excellent location on that throw out route against man coverage you cannot miss if you throw that behind that might be a pick six so nice job by the quarterback with his accuracy little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second down down running it to the right just trucks through it great pick up as they'll keep this drive moving and they've got it at the 45 with the weapons this offense has you knew it was just a matter of time in the Run game before someone was going to break a long one they' just been running into a wall that just couldn't seem to find their creases and get enough movement up front but they finally got it there picking up the first let's see what happens next as well run him until they stop him he's got it again well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward the Bob cads want to pick up the tempo he'll do it himself really nice run there good solid pick up and they'll move the sticks with a first down there's an example of the offense taking advantage of all the attention the defense is giving this outstanding running back remember he's one of the best in the game they're expecting him to get the football so the quarterback says you know what I'll just keep it no one's keying on me I'm going to get up field and find an explosive play the give on the inside relying on that running game and it works for about three yard to the 31 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven they'll keep it on the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one great job by that Defender I mean he timed that snap count perfectly got into the back field and created the negative play a third and long coming up here looking to throw it's for cloud wide open down field and a nice grab with a Defender right on him and he's down at the 20 that was a really well run route on the curl to pick up the first down yeah and it's a nice job too by the receiver getting his depth and then finding space in between the Defenders giving his quarterback a nice Target and the Bobcats come to the line with a fresh set of downs from the Red Zone he's going to throw it he's got his man nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down power football with the Run they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out the Bobcats are threatening on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he'll be brought down at the five yd line and this defense is on it heels and the Bobcats will hustle to the [Applause] line he'll run it to the right looking for the goal line he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is reing they keep pushing forward down to the three but now it's third and goal looking to pass it's McLoud fires into the end zone and he's got it touchdown Texas State they can use this first score to sort of set the tone guys in this rivalry matchup man doesn't this feel good to come out score early get the involved get the nerves out of the way Palmer when you're playing in a big rivalry game yeah and I feel like momentum is always a big thing in any game but in rivalry games it's that much more important because everybody is going to feed off that first score now getting set for the point after and with the point they get the first seven of the game they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown he'll bring it out it's Carpenter nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 UTSA takes over and the ready to hit the field firing deep oh right through his hands they came out attacking wanted to impose their will and they missed a big chance on that one man if you're going to win games you have got to hit on the Home Run type plays and that was a great opportunity right there the receiver has got to be able to look that football in and make the catch and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense looking for a gap it's Henry may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets him out to the 25 yd line and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his BS they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 25 to the ground to try to pick up the first and the road runners get it past the sticks and I just need a crease I I need you offensive lineman just like right here great job holding the point of attack don't let any penetration come in give me a little sliver and then you see the running back Palmer he'll do the rest lower his shoulder and make sure he gets the first down yeah it means a lot to this offense too to have a guy like this that always just seems to fall forward he always in the short yarded situations knows that first down marker is and he's able to get those hidden yards in piles driving his legs to help keep this drive alive defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats because he is not easy to bring down the road runners headed quickly to the line [Applause] they got him looking run but they're going to throw it now he's going to break the pocket he felt the heat trying to get away but down he goes he'll lose a yard or two offensively I love balance I love when I get some big gains on the ground now taking shots down the field but I got to protect my QB they did not keep him upright he had a chance to make a play especially after the big Run play the play before the defense was playing the Run QB couldn't get it done looking down field it's m now they're setting up the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short gain there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down you know sometimes even a short game like that can be used to set up something bigger later on no doubt re they can pump that take a shot down the field and don't worry they're going to go back to that same play because they know this guy with the ball in his hands is dangerous he makes one guy Miss he can take it to the house pressure coming and they got him for the sack third and long situation we're bringing an extra DB on the field we're telling our front guys to pin your ears back and go get the QV and they get the job done and the road runners will punt this one away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense how about the way they attacked the last time they had the ball mixing run and pass and winding up in the end zone Jesse that's why recruiting is so important they've got weapons at every skill position on the field any of these guys is dangerous if they touch the football let's see what they do on this drive David and so I got to take away something I can't let them have everything and have success I got to be aggressive against the run or play for the pass I can't give him everything that three yd pickup gets it out to the 28 it's second and seven from the shotgun the hand off to the back and he gets it up to the 36 it'll be a first down and you know big chunks like this don't happen unless you commit to the running game you got to those up front into the game understanding I want to knock people off the football create some holes like you do here for my running back make the game easy they'll snap it from the 36 they've got a first down to the air it's Cloud can't hold on he had him right down the middle and he flat dropped it and those are frustrating because you know you're supposed to catch that you're supposed to secure it it's going to happen but it's just frustrating for those receivers just tap the chest my bad dog here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw this one's complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch the Bob Cats racing to the line in the hurry up they'll throw it on first down catch in the middle it's Wilson really putting together a threat now they get the first H at the 37 stop me when you've heard this before first down first down first down just continuing to put first downs together so far this defense just can't find any answers and the Bobcats getting set on First and 10 the give to the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three so you get stuffed on first down you had an idea of what you wanted to do on second but I'm guessing it's back to the drawing board now yeah you got to figure out who you are and what you are uh what's your next best play or what is the defense going to do they've been aggressive okay well if they've been aggressive I'm going to throw that deep ball if they've been sitting back I might sneak a draw in here and with that stop we are headed toward the end of the first quarter how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we at the first quarter stats they are lined up and ready to go and get things started here in the second seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down he's got it really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down on third down offenses have their play what they like in thir third short what they like third and medium third and long great job by the offense having success now it's Inc combing upon the defense to learn their plays and try to shut it down throughout the game they'll leave it with him and how about the efficiency on that when it'll bring up second and four keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and four he'll pull it on the re got some room headed to the goal line and he rolls into the house touchdown Bobs that touchdown was a clinic in keeping your offense on the field and wearing the other defense out sometimes your best defense is your offense being able to stay on the field you're absolutely right re that was a clinic running the ball playing at Great Rhythm and Pace QB making good smart decisions and not shooting yourselves in the foot no penalties no turnovers it doesn't get any better than that last Drive they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead so that was a 10pl 75 yd drive and it was capped off with an impressive 16 yd Run for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] drive here he comes with return pulled down at the 18 and the decision to bring it out of the end zone was not a good one UTSA will take over in the defense ready to return to the field this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so Palmer no need to pay it I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely different the road runners moving quickly to the [Applause] line off the play fake on first down and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with the sack what a great job by this defense setting the tone early in the first half they've been hitting the quarterback early and often make him feel uncomfortable make him feel that pressure keep on the ground that's why they've built a lead this offensive line has just been unable to keep them away from the quarterback now it's second and long to the air it's maau safe completion on the screen they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks well a nice Gainer on that running back screen how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks really help out the back find some space to go to work they've got some work to do on this third and long from the 40 from the gun wants to pass got it in the middle it's bars and he's not going to look at the defense denying him the first down and that's why as a defense you want to set up third and long situations you just want to be able to keep the football in front of you it's okay for that quarterback to hit the running back on that pass now you have all those bodies flying with the football and they're able to make a tackle and the road runners will call on their punt team they'll look to pin them deep they'll get him coral and down at about the 19 yd line Texas state get the football back and here comes the offense they've jumped on them executing at a high level and up 14 nothing David this is the exact start you wanted I mean he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they could have done it but second down coming and as an offense you want to stay aggressive you want to keep calling these down field shots I know you didn't complete that one but you want to send a clear message you're trying to take the top off this defense you keep call down field shots you soften up the coverage you get those safeties playing deep that's going to open up your running game later on out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a crease they wrestle him to the ground but he's got PL for a first down well he was able to gash him on that plane you just give this guy one inch one little crease he puts his foot in the ground and he gets North fast it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line used the play fake now to throw flushed out of the pocket on the run and he'll slide to avoid the big hit welcome to the frustrating reality of college football like the guy at the quarterback spot he can just do that pull it down get positive yards makes the def to account for him every single play the Bobcats are in the hurry up the RPO fire complete to the left and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here scanning the field it's McLoud he finds his man that'll be enough for the first down and they'll mark it at the 48 and on that third and short I don't think he was unhappy to see that zone nope there a great job by the offense hey see where the holes in the zone are sit down you only need a little bit yards on this third down get the conversion move the sticks and the Bobcats are moving quickly down the field from the gun the running back has it they make the tackle at the 33 but he's ripped off 15 Y and picked up a first down another good run man he has been picking up yards in bunches today Jesse showing off all the skills no signs of slowing down David this guy just gets better as the game goes on he is a beast the Bobcats will have it first and 10 pulls it and fires to the left and the defense had that one well covered just a short gain there stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand and with the completion out to the sideline they'll pick up a couple I'll tell you for this defense they're going to have to find a way to bracket the slot receiver because of how athletic he is they're going to need to make sure they've got linebackers and DBS surrounding this guy at all times Ball's at the 25 they're in field goal range but they' love to convert this third and short they'll try to bully their way for the first slamed to the ground but not before he gets the first down wow the running back there showing you his skill set as is able to rip off that one for a first down now inside the 20 first and 10 from the 18 they'll throw it from the Red Zone and it's caught touchdown Texas State and it's so underrated the the relationship between a QB and a wide receiver the timing the ability to know where he's going to be and be accurate the football that's what leads to nice touchdowns Jesse chemistry between these two guys has to be great when you're throwing into the game because coverage is going to be tight the throw might not be perfect but this is something these two guys have been repping in practice over and over and over and it's paying dividends now on game lining up to T one more onto that lead and with the extra point they're up 21 to nothing they put together an 81 yd drive and the finisher an 18yd touchdown throw the kickoff team out there and ready to [Applause] go he'll take the return and try to improve the field position good job by the coverage unit to stop the Return Man UTSA takes over and the offense ready to hit the the field they're down by 21 points but you got a touchdown here and you do at least apply a little game pressure Jesse it's true I think for them to get back in this one at this point now they need the quarterback to play his best football he's going to have to be good really pre- snap David making sure they're in the right looks and he's got to be really good with his decision making he's got to be Dow in because defensively you're giving up points so it's not like you have the luxury for defense playing great the offense is going to have to score and score pretty dang quickly it's complete to the left makes the tackle at the 32 but they were backed up inside their 20 and they pick up 15 and that's just a great individual effort by the wide receiver he catches this ball way short of the sticks but because he's able to make the defender Miss now he's able to get the extra yards and turn that into an explosive play the road runners come to the line in the hurry up the give from the gun pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down [Applause] on the move it's Mars nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car well that guy is so quick coming out of his stance do you see how fast he got to the ball carrier to get that tackle for loss wow Ball's at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long looking to throw it's maau and they got him he'll get him down for the sack you got to be impressed with this defense early in this game guys they've got a big lead because they are getting after the quarterback they've already generated multiple sacks they thought coming into this game they could take advantage of this offensive line and that game plan is working to Perfection and the road runners will bring the punt team onto the field he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight excellent coverage that time didn't give him any room to set up a big return Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense off the play fake on first down to throw he makes a catch and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and the quarterback knew exactly where wanted to go to the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giv him and creating the explosive Play From The 39 yd line it's first and 10 quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver got a lot of running room and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to man I love that play call and I love the timing of the pre-nap motion because the quarterback was able to get it to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to use his speed nice job with the pre- snap motion and time from the Red Zone looking for a man he was open he had it and he dropped it would have been a touchdown instead it's second down this def going to have to make some adjustments here at halftime because they have been taken advantage of deep down the field in the passing game they've already given up two TD passes that was almost number three and we're only in the first half operating in the Red Zone here on second down he's got it on the Run they'll get it down to the eight yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall well this offense knew coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone he wants to throw it again and the third down pass is incomplete got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your INF field goal range what do you do here it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal and he'll boot one from the right hash he ought to be able to navigate that angle from this distance it is good and they'll push that lead out a little further they're really starting to extend that lead as they get ready to kick it away again fielded In The End Zone it's Carpenter not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 UTSA will take over in the offense ready to return to the field they face a pretty tall mountain here Jesse down 24 but if they're going to climb it this is a good time to start sense of urgency got to be big right here you just get the feeling at this point of the game David they've got to score on this drive obviously their defense needs to get stops but at this point offensively they've got to execute much better they they got to be super aggressive down 24 you're going to need three touchdowns three two-point conversions everything to kind of go your way so fast and throwing the football not much there picks up a to the 22 and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game fires to the wide out and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion the road runners will punt it away on fourth down they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today a fair catch taken just inside the 40 yd line Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense and to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they' love for this to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here D yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focused on execution and getting six points after trying the running game let's see if they do it again on second down back to throw it's for cloud he'll get rid of it PS it in and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning we've reached the two-minute warning and they will try to build on what has already been a dominant first half performance theyve got it inside the 30 at the 28 first down he's going to pass makes the grab on the left he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down now on second down he's looking to throw grab near the marker it's Fox he sto just of the line at the one explosive has him set up the magic bean is spinning out of control already over 200 yards in the first half yeah they're being aggressive offensively throwing the football trying to take advantage of this defense on the back end they've got their quarterback right now in a Groove this offense is about to face the one thing that can stop it time expiring in the first half before then they can get another score po forward he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and on that situation on the one yd line the defense brings so many guys Palmer Gets In The Back Field creates the negative play yeah I think we're seeing the overall athleticism of this defense they've got guys flying to the ball the offense will quickly use a timeout can the defense stop them again on second and goal back to pass it's McLoud into the house touchdown bobat [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass kickoff team has the ball teed up in there about ready to go here he comes from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 UTSA takes over in the offense ready to hit the field they find themselves in a pretty deep what a snag by the defense touch down Texas State the defense put six on the board with a big time interception return look I know it's only the second quarter but we're starting to see a pretty significant Gap devel between these two teams right now no doubt when your defense is scoring your offense is scoring good things happening for your ball Club this defense on point reading their Scouting Report making big [Music] plays lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering he'll start the return inside his five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 UTSA will take over in the offense ready to return to the field boy they've been caught in a buzz saw here in the first half but maybe a chance to car some momentum into the break here it all comes down to this drive right here ree obviously this offense hasn't had everything go right for them in the first half but here's an opportunity David to execute some plays put some throws together and generate some points and you're right Jesse and this offense needs to start now like we got to get some points on the board create some momentum and continue it because you've dug yourself a significant hole that's caught it's McCoy they make the Stop and that is the end of the first half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update phyas what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good oldfashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kid's been everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out and the Bobcats will boot it away to start the second [Applause] half he'll bring it out it's Carpenter stopped at the 17 and he's probably second guessing that return UTSA takes over and the offense ready to hit the field what could go wrong did in the first half and they start this third quarter at the bottom of the mountain man that was bad that was a frying pan to the head that was a TKO it was awful in the first half flush it I got to start doing something right I got to find some positives I get the ball first to start this possession try to put a scoring drive together the only thing you can do at this point offensively is just make sure your best players are touching the football as often as possible you recruited these guys you got guys out of the portal you put your faith in them to make plays this is a time to go out and do it passing game very effective on second down what about here on third they move the tight end all over on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with the pass makes the grab finally run out of bounds but he has this off rolling with a first down third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you on the run it's Barnes and they picked up nine on first down it'll bring up second and short listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive game making your situation really good on the next down that kind of pick up on first down and you can take a shot here on second and short looking for a crease to the left he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well there was just nowhere to go for the runner on that last play just way too much penetration up front and as a result they lose yardage in the dead center of the field as they try tot this third and looking to throw for it they've got the screen set up and they wrap him up but not before he gets enough on the catch for the first down well it's a nice play design there you're getting the running back involved in the pass game quarterback gives it to him early so he can go to work up field and get the first down and the road runners are marching down the field dropping back it's Macau grabs it in the middle they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker and here comes the offense on second down back to the ground game on the left that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physic you he a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it they'll snap it from the gun on third down he's going to let one fly down the middle almost intercepted it'll fall incomplete the defense almost came up with a turnover well on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down and the field goal unit is on the field it's good and that was dead solid perfect I wouldn't say they cut into the deficit they sort of microscopically uh edged off the deficit still a mountain decline after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go he'll bring it out it's Wilson not nearly as much as he had hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense to the ground with the back nudges ahead for one out to the 16 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he'll try it again now they've got a little room to work with they're out to the 28 with a first down and that's another productive run this offense has had a bunch of them today and the running back I think this lead was built on this guy he's done a great job all game long setting the tone and I think that's why this offense has been successful offense has it at the 28 on first down Ed the play fake now to throw and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf and finally the defense is able to get some pressure on this quarterback they had been trying all game long different ways to affect him weren't able to get there but on that play because of the pressure it affected his accuracy and that's why the ball Falls incomplete let's see what they've got on second down dropping back it's Cloud fires to the tight and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few a nice jot by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one and the misconnection on third down the Bobcats will try to pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away fair catch called for and made UTSA will take over and the offense ready to return to the field man how comforting is it to know that even if your offense stalls out a little Jesse that field goal kicker can knock it in from a long way out Well's of in the country re no doubt but this offense would like him and prefer for him to kick an extra point on this drive and to do that David they've got to have more Rhythm on offense yeah create some more Rhythm create some more explosive plays and maybe some more balance and listen it's nice to have that weapon and kick long field goals you kick too many field goals you don't get very many W's he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down man that was a good run but it was even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more a first and 10 for this offense working the middle it's complete they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first and on second down for this offense and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down you can hand it to him you can throw it to him either way he's making his presence felt those are your favorite plays re the him plays right they finding ways to get him the ball because he can make plays whether it's running or receiving out of the back field they're going to continue to highlight this guy free snap motion quarterback trying to get a read got it behind the line it's Barnes and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up man this guy's going to need some water when he gets to the sidelines they've been putting him to work on this drive right we've seen him toen the rock with success now you're seeing him get involved in the passing game too they are high highlighting his versatility here on this drive got eight on first down now looking at a second and two back to throw it's Macau he looks that one in nicely and he'll be run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage not a very productive play there they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the slot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let him make plays in the gun looking to throw on third down it's complete he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down and it looks as if they've buzzed down replay wants to have another peek at that last play and you know the standard is indisputable video evidence and the officials will change the call oh he missed it no good hoping to cut into that lead and they did not is Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense they missed an opportunity to extend this lead the last time they had it Jesse yeah they got to be able to regain that momentum right go back to what was working earlier on in this one and David to me that starts with being the more physical team no I definitely agree being the more physical team but understanding the situation of the game you're still winning you got the football back now put a nice drive together and execute didn't get much on first down it's second and nine from the gun running back on the move and he's able to shed one tackle and pick up pretty good yardage I think tackling is about effort most of the time it's about how much passion how much physicality you can bring to get your guy on the ground refuse not to get him on the ground that's not a big back you got to get that guy on the ground you can't let him pick up an extra couple yards and stay ahead of the sticks they're going to try to throw for it on third down pulls it in he's got enough to move the chain and they'll spot it at the 47 well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and distances there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first missed his receiver there it's incomplete I don't know if the quarterback read the coverage properly on that one but obviously the result is an incompletion now on second down after the incompletion looking for a man it's McLoud shoots it to the left he got his hands on it but couldn't hold on to it and what a time that would have been for their first pick of the game and that's why these guys play defense that offensive player receiver that would have easily have been a catch come on man you got to catch that and make that a pick third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off they want to just keep throwing it it's caught he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense well I think on that play you saw why this guy's such a big weapon in this offense it receiver he does such a nice nice job with his routes he's patient and he's consistent and he's got good hands you don't see him put a lot of balls on the ground nice job there picking up the first down the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the d That's the 20 he's got space and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play and obviously this offense has had their way getting a huge lead and now when you know it's a running situation you're in the ball games you're still getting pounded this defense has to step up at some point and be a lot more physical D cordinators down the road that have to play this offense man they're going to have nightmares because this unit has so much speed and so much skill at running back receiver tight end a quarterback making good decisions it is so tough trying to stop them and prevent explosive plays trying to get their receiver on a drag route and work him through all the bodies and traffic but there's just too much happening I don't think he saw the throw real well it falls incomplete going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone right back up top on second and 10 he's got it touchdown bat and the beat down has ensued now they have extended this lead guys starting to put the hammer but times a rivalry game can give you a little of extra fight back and there can be no Panic at this now you worked too hard this offseason David they've had this game circled for so long you've got to play your best football right now and fight back and you just need something good to happen on this next possession you got to get the crowd back into this football game big rivalry get some emotion get some momentum on your side ling up to add another and extra point will tack another one onto this lead that touchdown Drive covered 61 yards and the score comes on a 12yd touchdown pass the kickoff unit about to go to [Applause] work on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 UTSA takes over and the offense ready to hit the field he Wast no time and comes out throwing he makes the connection tackled immediately after the catch that completion leaves us with second and medium looking to throw it's Macau and the quarterback knocked down back at the 13 and this offensive L got to do a better job man you got to protect your quar listen this offense is not playing great they got to somehow find a way to start to get something together here in this second half not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long back up inside their 20 he's looking down field to throw setting up the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion whoopy Doo you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and C fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way not able to pop the big return but they've got the ball back and ready to go with a fresh possession Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense what a good mix of plays keeping that defense off balance last time David and Reese they don't know if it's run or if it's pass they got him right where they wanted this defense doesn't know how to react from getting punched in the mouth on that last drive so in this next Drive David I think you keep running the football because that sets up the play action it sets up the RPO game and then you keep this defense guessing offense gets set for second down quick completion to the right and they pick up just a few on that completion and that was close for the offense they try to go wide receiver screen they're counting on that receiver beating that Defender wasn't able to make him miss that time but if I'm on offense I'm going back to that play later now on third down after that run they'll try to pick it up on the ground and the Bobcats will have a first down that is how it's done on third down at Short no doubt about it an easy hole to get through and clearly get the first down if you really want to simplify football the low man wins that time the offense got the better of the D easily pick that up top catch with the first and 10 they're getting this guy lathered up and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine went to the running game on first down now here they come again out of the gun the running back has it and a really short game before he gets a whole bunch of company from the defense they'll need to get the ball to the 34 to convert this third down from the gun the ground game and the defense had four but they finally wrestle him down short of the first down keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense here you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you've set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive Alive Now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal unit everything will have to be clean from 55 y away and he's got it counted all the way to 55 never in doubt nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just strut him out there and let him stroke it through the upright they keep pushing that lead out and the kickoff team's getting some work and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 UTSA will take over in the offense ready to return to the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get first downs get some positive momentum with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 caught in the back field it's Clark and good coverage by the defense just a short gain [Applause] running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second down to throw it's Macau back open in the middle didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen so will the beat down continue or is this a comeback for the ages in store we'll see as we start the fourth he's looking to throw on Third and short unloads to the Wi out got his man to the left now with a great opportunity as they pick up the first down they've got it at the 40 the offense has struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game caught over the middle it's barns they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down this defense is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs run routes too he is a versatile back trying to convert this second and short he'll just keep slinging it looking left got his Man Down field and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains man listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to the road runners will snap it on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw fires to the wide out he caught it and he's into the end Z TD UT San Antonio and this has been a rough day for this offense and finally some good things to happen build some momentum maybe for the future you know that's that's the way the to spin it when you're getting beat up and you're getting destroyed like listen let's find something for the future let's keep fighting let's keep working this team's done that put some points on the board so it's not all bad lining up for the pat and it's up and good they go 83 y on the drive he'll bring it back from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 state gets the football back and here comes the offense you want to talk about having a weapon to bail out a drive David that's why kickers are so important after that long field goal and listen important is a relative term we need to make longer passes and get better gains so we don't have to kick long field goals Palmer again on offense and they've got the weapons to do that David they just got to be able to dial those plays up guys have to be able to make them oneon-one to make life easier on this kicker who is so important to this team the run from the shotgun just gets it to the 28 pick up of one if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum they'll run it from the gun and the defense is swarming to keep him from getting to the first down and the Bobcats line up to punt it away he'll try to really get into this one slips through the line coverage team was down there to Corral him they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 UTSA takes over and the offense ready to hit the field they'll start this drive with a pass catch in the middle it's Mars I want to get my running backs the ball in space as much as possible and sometimes it doesn't work in the running game but I can throw it to him I can try to create some space out wide dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out of it still some work to do after that last completion it's second down dropping back it's maau unloads it down field makes a catch at the 20 just what they were looking for a huge explosive play they inside the 15 at the 13 yd line you know as the head coach of this team this is one positive you're going to take away from this game is that your players don't quit and they're still willing to fight there's obviously a lot of things they've got to Iron Out offensively and we've seen that today but I do love the grit they're showing here late still trying to make plays after ripping off a huge chunk of yardage now they've got it first and 10 from the 13 the lone backs got it they knock him down after a pick up of four ball is at the N yd line going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down might as well stick with him he bullies his way all the way down to the five yd line and now a big third down coming up down multiple possessions this is one Palmer I'm looking for six I'm not trying to kick a field goal I want to cut into this lead with a touchdown no you got to have it and also considering all that this is four down territory too so you need to identify who are your best players on offense and how can you give them a chance to score this touchdown and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line man I think this quarterback needs to take his offensive line out for dinners more often because they're not protecting him and sometimes it doesn't they're trying that now the sixth sack of the game for this defense down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down stagged in the end zone touchdown UTSA yeah good for them they they put together a drive they they got a touchdown it's been a bad day I mean this is a day they're going to want to forget they're getting destroyed but at least you get some positive vibes maybe maybe finish this game on a little bit of a high note a little bit now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic right down the middle so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish it with an 11 yd touchdown D kickoff team lining up to send this one away coming out with it it's Wilson stopped at theeven and he's probably second guessing that return Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers reys I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here on the ground on first down see if they stick with that plan on second movement here from the tight end from the gun the G looking for room the Bobcats get up for the first down I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the D line they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first they'll start this from the 29 on first down they'll ride the hot hand and this one will be stopped for no game defense is about firing off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 touch pass on the Jet Sweep these little Gams can start to add up as he gets it up to the 34 and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to P have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the outside and the Bobcats will send out the punt unit fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt running it back it's Carpenter that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense wants to throw on first down he's right on target they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch that last completion sets him up on second down wants to throw it's Macau dumps it to the back that pass is incomplete this defense has just been all over this guy all game long Under Pressure they're finding a way to get to him and affect his rhythm of course they have an interception in this game that's why they've got a big lead here in the fourth quarter this guy has never gotten into a rhythm third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here just a to the tight end nice pick up there gets him the first down and sets him up at the 45 yd line that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep it's exactly right find the guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my match up get it to him let him do the rest through his hands and inom compl he normally makes that catch every time it's second down at this point of the game in the fourth quarter it is going to be tough for this offense to get some completions here because now trailing by this much the defense is expecting pass and they're putting a whole bunch of extra DBS on the field to help them out in coverage the playaction fake short throw to the sideline is complete and he's out of bounds after picking up a couple the def playing Zone coverage there they're taking away all the QB's primary options down the field so he has to check it down to the drag running underneath the marker is at the 35 and they need to get it there to convert third down looking to throw it again unloads to the Wi out all kinds of room to throw that one in there and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the def finally makes a stop and the road runners are moving quickly down the field gets it out fast and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage nice job defense you people talk about tackling the catch you saw it right there there was nowhere for that receiver to go once he had possession as a result no game and now on second down for this offense Red Pass it's complete and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain and I don't like the play call guys screen pass at this point of the game against the defense playing big zones reent trying to keep the ball in front it's just not going to got to take shots offensively already two for two on third down but this time they'll need nine to convert hand off from the shotgun and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down caught near the sticks it's McCoy touchdown road runners and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house nice pitch nice catch and listen maybe this helps next game right like we're trying to find a rhythm find something that works find somebody to go to and this offense is struggling you're down by a thousand but I like they continue to fight he'll try to tack on one more bangs it through for an extra point they put together a 65 yd drive for the score and the score comes on a 12yd touchdown pass the deficit is huge this one is all but over they'll keep trying and line up for the onside kick few anxious moments there but the hands team true to its name as they make the grab and get the ball on first down here comes this offense quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's a completion they lost yardage the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block the edge I got to get my Speedster in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss at the 35 he's got room they just gashed the defense on that one and they've got it down to the 23 man sometimes it just gets frustrating and you've just been beat down all day this defense hasn't had answers but now you can't let him run the football and just run it down your throat and be physical this defense has to do something different and find a way to make something happen down to the 23 for this first and 10 the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick able to move it ahead a couple yards he gets it down to the 20 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they go to the ground they make the stop after a pick up of three balls at the 18 we reached a two-minute warning and this offense we be quite cont just to drain the rest of the time away coming to the line of scrimmage on third down back to throw it's Cloud fires to the middle he CAU it so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense he has been the go-to guy on offense all game long know thetical down here in the fourth quarter surprise surprise guess who they go to that guy the Bob catch lined up with a first and goal he'll try to get it in with the Run they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the defense finally able to make a play getting a tackle for loss they haven't had many of those today because this running back really has answered the Bell they knew coming in they were going to have to give him the football force feed it to him and let him go to work he's done that well over a 100 yards rushing in this game and the defense just has not had the answers consistently for him on second and goal they go right back to him and they're going to put another one into the end zone as they just keep piling points on the scoreboard and this always is the debate of where you fall it's your job to stop me or I should get conserva this off OB ly has had themselves a day and apparently their day is not over they're going to continue to keep scoring and the defense better do something about on to attempt the try and the extra point just TS a little bit more onto this huge lead so they take advantage of good field position and move it 46 Y and finish the deal with the short touchdown run from the two they're just about ready to kick it [Applause] away on the run from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 UTSA will take over in the offense ready to return to the field they'll crank up this drive with a pass this one has pretty much been a bludgeoning but they'll try to finish with something positive late well they ran into a buzz saw today and I don't think it would matter what type of x's and o's they're out there executing David Jimmy's in the Joe's they just they're just not as good as the opponent today and as an athlete it sometimes hit you in the face and it stinks but you're not good enough and today they were not good enough and I'm going to do the best I can to try to flush this down the toilet not remember it forget it move on for the next game maybe something right here I can create positive that carries over to practice and maybe next week and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built the momentum this is this is one of those days you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to like but hopefully you can learn from it and do better next time he wants a big play here and the ball falls to the ground incomplete the game is over and that's just sort of how this one is gone for
