welcome to n Virginia home of the Old Dominion monarchs and close to a Full House here as fans are eagerly anticipating this Clash we have in store there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the AAC the East Carolina Pates taking on a team from the Sun Belt the Old Dominion Monarch for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth as always by David poock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one up the Pirates will get us underway with the opening [Applause] kickoff on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 so old dominions offense will get the first swing of the game and here he comes guys the man who makes everything go everything in this offense is built around his ability he's got such great feel Vision he's got it all he is must watch TV let's not get it twisted people show up to this Stadium people are watching back at home because of this guy right here he'll pull it on the re he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the monarchs racing to the line in the hurry up Wilson will throw quarterback moving trying to make magic on the scramble and he avoids The Tackle with the slide and the monarchs will punt this one away they'll look to pin him deep he gets a block returns like that are why you don't settle for the fair catch if you don't have to picks up just a little bit of yards to help out the O the Pirates offense has its first opportunity of the day here comes the offense on first down out of the gun the running back has it and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of field at the 49 after the productive first down play it's second and six he's looking to throw grabbed behind the line it's Smith they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker and they got the completion but still looking at a third down they'll try to pick it up on the ground he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and the Pirates send out the punt unit first punt of the day and he'd love to lock him up close to their goal line and the punt will hit at the seven and they can't Coral it it goes into the end zone it'll come out to the 20 give to the running back found a little bit of Running Room knocked down at the 24 after a pick up of four solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six trying play action getting some heat just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the loss couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six out of the shotgun they go to the ground and gang tackling on this dude is a good idea they needed it but he still got the first down and they just kind of sneak that one in there as a defensive guy third and five plus I'm thinking pass they were thinking pass Palmer and they SLI the running and it's so nice then to have this guy running back too right because you could throw it to him on third down or hand it off and he's got the vision and the athleticism to go pick up that first keep the drive going hand off from the gun we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up moving quickly trying to Rattle the [Applause] D Wilson to pass fires to the wide out and that one's incomplete if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he has to throw for it safe completion on the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short game there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down the monarchs line up to punt it away a fairly short distance here toward the sine not his best work East Carolina has it back and the purple pirate offense will go to work from the gun they'll try the middle and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on a defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this if they're going to be successful on offense from the shotgun they'll run it couldn't find a lane a pick up of one to the 31 how bold will they be on third down after that last run gives it to the back on the draw he gets it oh so CL close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short the Pirates will try to pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away really good job by the coverage team to make the Stop and that's where they'll put it in play ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field he'll do it himself just searching and working for the Running Room as he gets it out to the 26 and the monarchs in the hurry up looking for room it's young that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one and they dialed up a shot play but they couldn't hook up the monarchs will call on their punt team let's see if can help the coverage team out with this one this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fair catch just inside the 40 they go to the ground running with power you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into long runs and they pick up just a few on that completion tackled almost immediately they're well short of the first down Garcia to pass throws to the wide out just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab and the Pirates will line it up on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw a shot toward the end zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score really need positive yards on second down after the incompletion they'll snap it from the 44 he picks up four that'll leave them with third and six trying to pick up a first down he'll try to pop the draw and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here they really have no Choice here this is a no-brainer you go for it here on this fourth down they stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on down on first down here comes this offense and off from the shotgun not a whole lot of room there three yard maybe second and seven tried to pound it on first down now back to the line the give to the tail back and they'll pick up the first down and Mark it at the 47 they want to get this defense on its [Applause] heels looking to go up top on first down grabbed in the middle it's Williams they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down from the shotgun now here's an inside G and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down and the monarchs want to crank the [Applause] tempo to the ground he's got it again and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pick up sixy pick up on first down leaves him with second and four using his legs it's Young they make the stop but this running game moves to change as they get the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs it's a draw they make the stop after a pick up of three balls at the 18 after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven he'll keep it himself and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground they've controlled the football on this drive the eighth play will be a third and three Wilson will throw he's got his man he's there to make the stop but not before he sets up this offense first and goal from the seven he'll try to get it in with the Run he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming quarterback on the keeper oh what a move he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer let's see what the offense dials up on Third and goal from the gun wants to pass moves away as he feels pressure he felt the heat trying to get away but down he goes he'll lose a yard or two well that Defender just was better in his one-on-one on the pass rush he does a great job beating the offensive lineman to get to the QB now on fourth down they'll settle for a field goal try he'll booted from the left side and from this distance that angle ought to be fairly easy and it's right down the Boulevard and the first points of the day come on that field [Music] goal so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away here he comes with return really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 East Carolina sending the offense back to work I think the one thing you can say here Jesse is that both defenses have done a pretty good job mitigating damages yeah and on that last drive not getting it on Fourth basically only cost you three points that's the good news let's just turn the page David and move on so I think you can still be aggressive you can still go for on fourth down now you know you can trust your defense gets it out to the 3 yd line after picking up on that one coming out on first down with the play fake s spot in the middle they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks the Pirates come to the line in the hurry up really nice job on that play quarterback and receiver being on the same page quarterback not telegraphing to throw and the receiver does a job finding the soft spot in the defense just settling down anding his quarterback a nice Target to throw to Nifty little dance step they finally make the stop with the big run is plenty to move those sticks for the first down and the Pirates come to the line with a new set of downs they'll give it to the back he works his way down to the 30 yd line before he stopped a gain of three got three on first down it's second and seven looking for room it's B they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass fires to the right a beautifully placed ball to the outside in the tow drag for the big pickup now down to the 12 Y Line it's first down from the shotgun the inside G operating in the Red Zone here on second down from the gun the ground game and this one will be stopped for No Gain really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal Garcia wants to throw the catch and he was pushing for that goal line but the KN stopped him at the two so nice when you're an offense and you get in these third in shorts and you know the defense has to be aggressive has to commit guys up front especially in the Red Zone area nice job by this offense slipping in the pass getting rid of the football setting up a first and goal they'll use the running game on first and goal and he takes it to the house touchdown East Olina that was an absolute Sledgehammer of a drive just taking the air out of the ball and it's hard when you run that many plays not to make a mistake and throw an interception or get penalties and put you in a bad spot but the offense just strung play after play after play together and got in the end zone lining up for the pat and the extra point is good and it's a four-point lead they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field Jesse they had to kick a field goal the last time they had it yeah and often times early in games you're just trying to find your rhythm things work some don't on that first drive David it' be interesting to see what happens here in the second Drive yeah you got to feel for the defense now you understand what they're trying to do what their game plan is now you get to go into phase two of your game plan jumped on top of the pile the monards want to move quickly he'll PLL it on the re and the monarchs get up for the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs movement here from the tight end the give on the inside oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack he'll try it again and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the stop they've got a good chunk of ground to cover on Third and long from the 41 and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down the monarchs decide to punt it away he'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position line get set first down from the gun the G looking for room halfway there on first down it's second and five Garcia to pass it Fly and it's intercepted a turnover for the defense not a lot on the return but they can live they got it at the 49 you know I like the decision by the quarterback in terms of where he was going with the ball just don't like the accuracy that was not good location on the throw got away from him a little bit and the defense able to come up with a big [Music] Pi ODU ready to send the off back onto the field the give to the back brought down at the 39 after a pick up of 10 it'll be a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs he'll do it himself he bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last one it's second and 11 well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle penetrate what a great first step he shot right through through the offensive line and got the tfl makes the catch it's Altin they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down shotgun snap on third down unloads to the wide out complete down field he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down big third down there for the quarterback and he knew where his best chance was at getting that first he found the curl route made an accurate throw and as a result the offense stays on the field and the monarchs moving quickly to the line they' marched to the Red Zone and here they go and he had it for a second but it just dribbled out of his hands going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he's got it and still on his feet they get it down to the seven on that pass play in Prime position for a score the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring how about these two running game so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter stats [Applause] heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can pick up a first down without scoring third down looking for the score snagged In The End Zone touchdown Monarch one of the areas they really focused on with this receiver in the off seon was we need you to make more Place For Us in the end zone and we're taking shots we need to be able to step up and make tough catches David what a grab right there and I think a lot of that has to do with trusting your guy knowing where he's going to be knowing when he's going to sit down when he's not so being on the same page and then having a guy that can go get it just when the ball is near him he's going to make the play just like he did right there for six points and the extra point puts them up by a field goal so a drive that started just be Midfield only 49 ydd and they close the deal with the seven Y for the score and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 East Carolina has it back and the purple pirate offense will go to work and he intercepts it he would have loved to make the big return there but he still gives his team the ball 37 this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his [Applause] [Music] decision first down for this offense he wants to start this drive with a pass quarterback extends the play and has solid gain on the play before sliding second and two and four receivers spread all over the field you know QBs want to make those big plays they want to they want to put up the big stats but when nothing's there sometimes you just tuck the ball get a minimal gain I like the slide by the way to get down and don't take a big hit coming to the line looking for that first down on Third and short from the 29 they'll run the option they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker knocked it right through showing that big range from 4 y out you've got to make the opponent pay for turning the football over and while this team would have liked to have scor a touchdown off that pick I think they're pretty happy getting the Feld [Music] so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather he'll bring it back from inside is five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 East Carolina sending the offense back to work the short hands it's right and the defense makes the immediate tackle but has for the first down used the play fake now to throw pressure coming hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance second and 10 after the previous play the give to the running back from the shotgun and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few they've got it at the 41 third and shorty to the change moving looking to throw for it caught close to the marker it's Kelly he's got enough to move the chain and they'll spot it at the 47 out of the gun the give to the back and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine went to the running game on first down now here they come again Garcia wants to throw looking to the big tight end just masterful working that sideline and getting the toe down for the catch he's out of bounds after a big pick up but there's a flag on the field and this might be coming back the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty it'll be a draw he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three going gone second down in the red zone and still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he got it oh and he thought he had a chance to house him but the defense tackles him at the three not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone he wants it all reels it in in the end zone touchdown ECU ready to try the point after and the extra point gives them the lead of 1413 so they move the ball ball 43 yard on that drive and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss on the run from inside zone five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field into a mass of giant bodies we'll call it a one yd gain to the 24 the monarchs want to pick up the tempo he'll keep it himself he's there to make the stop wow this offense is doing nothing they've already punted four times and staring at the possibility of a fifth trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up yet another punt on the way got to make sure that hamstring stays loose he's been busy he only needs a sliver of daylight and the returner will be brought down now they'll try to cash in this drive first and 10 from the 50 he Wast no time and comes out throwing snagged in the middle it's right and they got the defense on that one and they get it to the 29 yd line [Applause] looking for a physical attack from the gun he locked up and held on to bring him down they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 here's a quick throw out to the left that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot is he can go either direction you get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties and they're going to head out the lineup for a field goal the kicker will reach for a 36 yd attempt splits the uprights it's good well the head coach decided to play it safe on Fourth and inches and try his field goal team out there and his field goal kicker just made him look like a pretty smart guy after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it [Applause] away here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field they'll throw it on first down quick completion on the out route he's there to make the stop but the damage has been as they pick up the first down on the throwing [Applause] catch looking to move it through the air a strike downfield oh look out and he eluded the defense and he'll take it all the way touchdown o and this offense right now they doing some damage through the air that's now their second passing touchdown they thought coming into this game they were going to have some matchups on the perimeter of the field that they could take advantage of and they've done that so far here today they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point puts them up by a field goal you want to see quick strike ability it was epitomized there two plays 80 yd touchdown on the board he'll start the return inside his SP couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 car has it back and the purple pirate offense will go to work they're going to open this drive with a pass got it in the middle it's Kelly and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down got the completion on the last play still some work to do on second down they knock him down right there balls at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long really nice job by the defense playing responsibility football making sure the quarterback could make it his reads making sure the picture is not clear getting downhill getting the quarterback on the ground and with that run he goes over a 100 yards we knew coming into this game tonight they wanted to force feed him the football they knew to win the game they were going to have to establish the running game and be the more physical team in the trenches you turn around and give this guy the ball good things generally happen and we've seen that over the course of this game really nice stop there from this senior leader after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven Garcia to pass and he'll Chuck it into the cheap seats there and save the down nobody getting open there they'll come to the line at the 42 facing a third and long now they'll run the draw almost got to the on third down able to pick up six but they're looking at a fourth and one the Pirates will send out the punt unit and just a spectacular punt it'll go out of bounds inside the five yd line and really put this offense in a hole from the gun running back gets to give gives him a little more Breathing Room a three yd gain out to the seven and the monarchs will hustle to the line to give to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass fires to the big F tackle is made but not until he gets the first down the monarchs come to the line with a fresh set of downs they saw that Blitz coming and the way to get out of it is find the tight end yeah how quick did he see that too sees the blitz understands this is a match up where I got my big tight end the big fell I trust I'm going to find that match up get him the football for the first half and the monarchs are moving quickly down the field and this has got to be so demoralizing for this def right having given up multiple first downs on this drive somebody on defense has to step up make a play and stop the Le creating some space getting just enough good blocking and they've got it up to the 47 yd line the give out of the gun finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs I love teams that make it a priority to run the football and they have today another good run by this running back he's been doing it all night over 100 yard on the day really really good night for this young man on the ground it's young and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up they've controlled the football on this drive the eighth play will be a third and three they'll try to pick up the first through the air pressure is effective from the defense they knock him down just behind the Midfield stripe at the 48 and the offense sprung a big time leak and the quarterback went down and when you're throwing the football you're trying to stop the best athletes in the world from getting to your quarterback they're going to get there they're pinning their ears back get to the QB get the sack the will bring the punt team onto the field and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the day and that is an excellent punt as it lands out of bounds inside the 10 yd line East Carolina sending the offense back to work makes the quick grab a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three offense in a split Back Field wide receiver shows motion Garcia wants to throw firing to the right complete and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down FR set Downs After the completion they'll run it out of the shotgun picks his way and gets four out to the 27 after the productive first down play it's second and six to the ground with the back get him on the ground after a four y run out to the 31 trying to move the sticks on third down they'll try to run for it shakes off the defender oh and what a move what a Juke and he makes it past the marker they'll snap it from the 36 they've got a first down they'll leave it with him they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last one it's second and 11 running back searching for a hole just sort of a Rel run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 on third along trying to have a big completion here working that left side defense caught out of position and they get him down finally at the 38 there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a hug goes a long way deciding who wins a football game got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 got his man quickly the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage third down has been right in the Wheelhouse on this drive they've already converted a couple of times but they need the full 10 yards now oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down and here comes the field goal unit for the for the second time tonight from 55 y out and he's got it never a doubt after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away [Applause] again looking for those open spaces and opportunity not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing the incompletion leads to Second and 10 Wilson to pass pocket starts to collapse and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 and how about the defense getting home with the pass rush playing man coverage in the back end you need to win up front those guys got to get to the quarterback do a great job rushing the passer I can play man when I got a pass rush like that you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking to throw and he needs a chunk play fires to the wide out and the pass is intercepted trying to take it back touchdown Pirates what a great play by the defense and paying it off with the interception return the DB saw it thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field from the gun he leaves it with the back may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets them out to the 25 yd line out of the gun the inside K they get him on the ground but it's a first down now on First and 10 from the 29 caught in the back field it's Williams they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down and the monarchs head it quickly to the line going up top on first down he looks that one in nicely they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first leaves it with the running back they'll wrestling down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one we've reached the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the half and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up the monarchs will line up to punt it away it'll go out of bounds and we'll see where they mark it it's going to be right around the 35 e Carol has it back and the purple pirate offense will go to work he'll come out throwing on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again Garcia to pass just goes right through the Wicket and brings up third down man he will be thinking about that one from the gun wants to pass throws to the wide out got his Man Down field he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 and the Pirates come to the line with a new set of downs using his feet to buy time he'll try to do it himself how about that nice run from this junior quarterback from inside the 40 at the 37 it's first down he wants to throw gets rid of it grabed over the middle it's Smith brought down just outside the Red Zone he moves the chain it's at the 22 the offense lining up for a first down play he's going to pass makes a catch you this is simple pitching catch quarterback and wide receiver have done this four million times in the off seon he catches waits for take a couple steps boom fires it right on his chest they can complete this probably with their eyes got it in the end zone touchdown purple Pirates and how about the offense they spread them out everybody spread wide easier to read a defense when you do that they find the matchup they want and they get rewarded with the score he'll try to tack on one more and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further so they got the touchdown now going to put it in the hands of their defense to finish off this half and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field so late in the half this is really an opportunity David maybe to swing the momentum in their favor dang right there's no time to be conservative we're a little bit down listen I just think this is a point with the offense that they can prove like we're here we're going to create something now that we can build on of the second half coach said all week he wanted to be aggressive this is a great opportunity to show that right now at the end of the first half try and generate some momentum score some points before going into halftime a timeout is called as this off to find a way to get more points on the board before the half Wilson will throw it's complete to the right didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few they'll try to kick it into overdrive clock's running second down coming we've got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break wide receivers all over the place trips to the left on second and seven he's looking to throw unloads it left and he dropped it just didn't look the thing all the way in they couldn't make the connection on second down now a third and seven to keep the drive alive from the gun wants to pass fires it beautifully in on the Crosser they just gashed the defense on that one and they've got it down to the 23 hey the defense knew coming into this one this guy was going to be a factor but they have done nothing to stop him they don't have any answers already has over 100 yards receiving and we're not even done the half his offense lines up feeling awfully good after that big play comes out throwing on first down and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one and here on second down they'll send out the field goal unit to try to get three before the break it is as he puts three on the board [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer looking for an alley from inside his own 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 and holding on to the lead the offense will simply take a knee and that's how we will wrap up the first half that's the end of the second quarter that means well oiled machines but it doesn't take a geni to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be able to figure things out here at halim and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Ballard stadium and the monarchs will kick it away to start the second [Applause] half from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 East Carolina sending the offense back to work if it's working why change it and that running game was working in the first half I imagine we'll see a lot more of it here in the third quarter and you just know the offensive line was telling their coordinator put this on us let us continue to go out there push these guys around we can put this game on our back and end this thing by running the ball and this is a manhood question for this defense like a defensive lineman and you're pounding the rock can anyone catch him and they are pushing the ball down the field a big pick up on that one and the tackle is finally made love the individual effort by the wide receiver after the catch making people Miss showing you the speed now he set up his offense down in the Red Zone the Pirates come to the line in the hurry up [Applause] takes a hand off it's Harris trying to run it in in the Red Zone he's got four and he's down at the 12 solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six he's got it again pick up of one it's down at the 11 boy they' love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal Garcia wants to throw trying to get to him and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 sometimes you beat your guy and you get sacked so clean and sometimes like on this play the DBS do a great job covering make the QB hold the football and then the rush gets home and this kicker has had a busy night the field goal unit is out there for the third time the will spoted about 35 yd out never doubt and now the leads extended a little farther so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away he'll bring it back from inside to spot nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field to the air on first down he's got his man he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down quarterback on the keeper he showed it all there a little elusiveness a little power and he's got the first down no huddle here for the offense trying to find his man on first down Chu it away just as he was hit hit hard just as released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver this one's complete guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive they'll put the tight end in motion on Third and short the run and looking for the first down and the defense stands up offensive line and stuffs him right at the line of scrimmage he didn't get it fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and that one will Sail Out of Bounds no chance for a return there East Carolina has it back in the purple pirate offense will go to work they'll try the run that may not look like a huge run but they'll take it as it gets him up to the 24 good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three off the RPO complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch from the gun give on the inside good pick up on the ground and they'll Mark him down at the 39 eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short they'll keep it on the ground they'll get him on the ground at the 46 and it'll be a first down and the Pirates are flying down the field the RPO fire complete to the left brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down the offense lines up at the 41 with a first and 10 hand off from the shotgun and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down the big pick up on first down leaves them with second and one out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a crease not much there on the Run he gets one to the 31 they plow ahead with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up so here comes the field goal unit again this kicker has already made three in this one oh and the attempt is no good missed the field goal missed the chance a three possession game but still a 14-point lead [Music] guys Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field out of the shotgun they go to the ground at the 45 on his way and he's to the 48 Y Line that would be good enough for a first down the monarchs in the hurry up might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again they'll finally drag him down but not before he gets it to the 40 and it's a first down and in this game this guy has shown you why he's one of the best in the country he has so much ability at the running back position speed quickness the ability to break tackles unbelievable Vision already now with 150 yards rushing the defense has no answer for him they've got to find a way to slow this guy down out of the gun the running back has it he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three this is a third and long they'll throw it to the back on the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down this kicker's leg is getting a workout he's already made three field goals and here he comes again never a doubt for this bigf footed guy 49 yd field goal is good [Music] they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it [Applause] away on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that off coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 East Carolina sending the offense back to work you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to execute at a higher level how bold will they be third down after that last run Garcia to pass can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's fourth [Applause] down he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 a first down for the offense ball in the air intercepted taking it the other way touchdown East Carolina how about that D coming up with a play like that what a play by this defense with the pick six and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to do breaks on the football makes the interception everybody on defense we turn to offense go lay some blocks so my guy can get it and take it back to the house now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point they're on top by 18 they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pi six let's see if he can make a play on the return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field they're trying to get to him quarterback now on the Run still looking trying to make magic with his feet short gain on the play before he slide and the monarchs want to crank the tempo grabbed in the middle it's Butler slamed to the ground but not before he gets the first down now on first down from the 28 these routes have some reads in adaptability built in and the big fella found that cushion and made the play man it's so awesome how much offenses have evolved they know exactly what they're getting where to sit down quarterback tight end on the same page gets the first give to the running back they'll Mark him down at the 40 after ripping off 10 the Minards are marching down the field and they say a quarterback's best friend is a good run game and a good running back I think he agrees over 150 yards on the day I don't even think I need a quarterback the way he's been running the football all game long so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty first down here for the offense Wilson to pass quickly out to the tight end a huge play and they get it all the way to the 45 yd line well this defense has tried to find ways to disguise their coverage and mix it up to try to confuse the QB it's not working though with that last completion he's now get over 300 yards coming out on first down with the play fake catch in the middle it's Butler and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and that's the beauty of run and play action everybody sucks up plays the run and you get to slip that tight end down the field with a full head of steam make a big play and the monarchs with the and 10 he'll pull it on the read and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that offense gets set for second down yeah and a great job by the defense holding the line of scrimmage playing downhill playing responsibility football making sure they shut down that option here they come facing third long from the 20 from the gun wants to pass throws toward the end zone and it's CAU touchdown Old Dominion he has been surgical Precision passes using the scaff the fine instrument rather than the bu one and the defense has had absolutely no answer for it just he's been down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying this [Music] defense they'll try to attack one more on their score right down the middle lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 East Carolina has it back and the purple pirate offense will go to work didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 after picking up a couple at second and eight Garcia wants to throw grabs it in the middle and they reacted well to the comption but it was too L to keep him from getting the first down it'll be a first and 10 from the 29 the give to the back at the 40 there he goes knocked down at the 44 but he got 15 on that one and now on first down after converting with the run to the ground he's got it again picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down [Applause] he'll try to pop the draw that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one he's going for it all and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it a fairly short distance here toward theine not his best work Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field this feels like a pivotal moment get the ball back on the punt you need to put points on the board on this drive yeah it's a sense of urgency right now has got to be high for this offense trailing the way they are here David they've got to be able to put something together score some points and build confidence yeah it's not panic time but you do want to build that confidence and find something that you can do well to start to build on offense is starting to figure themselves out a little bit trying to move the sticks on third down through the air misses again it's incomplete and that's three in a row the monarchs send out the punt unit running it back it's Murphy he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot looking for a productive play on first down they'll crank up this drive with a pass incomplete and very lucky that one wasn't picked off and man could they have used that it'll be second down they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw offensive linemen love when you sneak in draws when you sneak in screens that holds these defense alive and accountable you want to rush the quarterback who going to fly up field every single play right behind you and get some yardage third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the offense and the ball Falls incomplete wants to bring it back he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field he Wast no time and comes out throwing and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down after the misfire it's second down he'll do it himself gets it past the marker and the defense finally makes the stop after the sweet run and good gain well no surprise I mean with the way they're running the ball early in this game they're just going to keep doing it and they're just not hammering out two three four yd gains they're gashing this defense you saw it right there makes a catch down the right side touchdown Monarch and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house this dude is just slicing and dicing this defense into little tiny pieces carving him up completely comfortable knows exactly what he's getting had so much success today you got to find a way to make these quarterbacks feel more [Music] uncomfortable there they're going to go ahead and go for two here and try to make it a field goal game they're going to run it he gets it in for the two and now a field goal with ti quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they finish with a 62 yd pass for the score he'll bring it back looking for help and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down On The Ground East Carol sending the offense back to work their Drive chart is starting to look a little monotonous punt punt punt David and their defense is starting to get a little frustrated too they just keep putting me back on the field possession after possession Jesse this offense needs to get their heads out of there you know what the punter's on the sideline with the oxygen mask right now he's been playing so much he's not used to this this offense they just got to stay on the field they' got to put a drive together and get some balance going running throwing the ball dumps it to the back caught near the sticks it's Harris they'll move those chains getting it out to the 29 yd line and trying to get this drive rolling out of the gun to give to the back he stopped after getting a yard out to the 30 didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine using his legs Harris finds his way for three out to the 33 how bold will they be on third down after that last run from the gun wants to pass oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down the Pirates will try to pin them back with the punt BS it all the way in and now turns his attention up field he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yardage he could on the punt return they'll go to the ground they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two football is about adjustments first half line up pound strong pound strong second half great job you're going to move your defense and shift to try to account for that boom we'll pull some guys and run a counter back side and success and the monarchs moving quickly to the line from the gun the ground game really nice stop there from this senior leader the offense in hurry up mode they move the tight end all over he'll keep it himself makes that one pay off and they finally get him down at the 38 it'll be first down the monarchs come to the line with a fresh set of downs they'll run it from the gun and a pick up of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two looking to push the pace with the no huddle out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back tackled but he has a first down and the monarchs are on the Move leaves it with the back defense there to stop him at the 20 let's give him three yard on that carry after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven been showing them the run now they'll throw and the defense makes a play they get the quarterback down at the 26 and you want to talk about favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches in a chance to show off their hands in the passing [Applause] game not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth gives it to the back on the draw and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop this kick is going to need nerves of Steel on this one right down the boulevard it's good and here in the fourth quarter this game [Music] is and we're all square as he's set to kick it away he'll start the return inside his five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 East Carolina has it back in the purple pirate offense will go to work nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the car a negative play to open the Drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 Garcia to pass moving out of the pocket and he is snowed under sacked at the seven and come on now o line you got to take care of your quarterback he takes care of you he's the one who takes you to meals he's the ones that get you those niil deals everything happens through your quarterback you got to keep him upright that is your number one priority not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 looking down field and he needs a bunch and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on so from the shadow of his goal post he gets the punt away no return coming he'll call for the fair catch Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field out of the gun the inside k and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop the monarchs are in the hurry up the playaction fake and the defense picks up a sack getting the quarterback down at the 44 they can really use a few yards here on third down because from here it would be a 61 yd attempt all kinds of room to throw that one in there they are on the as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 28 I love the job the quarterback does surveying the defense there great job pre-nap recognition understanding the coverage he goes to his curl route gets the completion and picks up the first offense has it at the 28 on first down the give to the tail back not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line they'll run it out of the shotgun finds a little bit of room give him a couple down to the 23 quite a bit of work to do on third down from the 23 and this D would love to force a field goal try makes his connection they get him on the ground but it's a first down and the monarchs have this offense rolling hand off from the gun you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six quick Tempo here for the offense Wilson will throw touchdown ODU and they've moved out front here in the fourth [Applause] [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead the extra point is good and now in the fourth they're up by a touchdown and an extra point just about set to kick it [Applause] away and he takes this from inside the five and the returner goes down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs looking to go up top on first down can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second [Applause] down to the ground with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple this defense has kept them backed up now one more and can get off the field on Third and long getting some heat he tosses one high and deep down the left side and the Pirates will call on their punt [Applause] team that's usually Prime return position but he'll make the fair catch just outside the 40 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 the mons racing to the line in the hurry up man so nice to have a guy that you can depend on like this offense is built around him for a reason just a a good running back you can see gets north south doesn't dance picks up positive yards breaks tackles he's just a really good player and that's why this offense runs through on Third and short the power run here nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 and the monarchs come to the line with a new set of downs well the defense didn't Blitz they didn't have everybody in gaps and the offensive line took advantage at the point of attack getting some push opening up a hole and the offense ripping off a nice run there and he was loose and in the open field and on his a tremendous pick up on that one well they wanted this guy catching the ball on the right side of the field they could have just lined him there but it didn't that time he started off on the left side he crossed the defense and made the catch on the right side of the field they've moved to the 16 it's first and [Applause] 10 from the gun they'll try to impose their will made a little something out of that Ronnie picked up a couple down to the 14 going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the down without getting it into the end zone the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the d p down after a gain of five it's at the N yd line they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal Wilson to pass excellent coverage and good hands to knock it away and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with this foot good right down the Boulevard and now the lead is even bigger you know it's funny in an age where there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter by kicking that field goal you've now made it a two possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 East Carolina sending the offense back to work he'll come out throwing on first down fires one high and deep and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in on second down he'll fire throwing right just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started fires down field a beautifully placed ball to the outside and the tow drag for the big up the Pirates want to move quickly and even though they're trailing here in the fourth quarter they've got a quarterback that can bring them back but they need him now to play his A+ level of football we saw a nice completion on that last third down let's see if he can keep it going and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback and the Pirates are moving quickly down the field they're getting this guy lathered up relying on that running game and it works for about three yard to the 31 got three on first down it's second and seven quarterback on the keeper and how about that interior defense in the run for nothing coming to the line of scrimmage at the 30 it would be a long field goal but they'd love to pick up a few here on Third and long so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 y out so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it [Applause] away he'll bring it back from inside to spot and returner will be dragged down Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field and now that cushion is a little bit smaller Jesse and any mistake would get magnified yeah little bit of pressure now on this offense too David I think they got to go back to their Playmakers and get these guys going in the game no doubt find those plays those plays you know you can run them in your sleep you make sure you execute build this lead a little bit bigger put this thing away in the fourth quarter they really things moving on this drive second play of the drive comes from the 37 going up top on first down works the middle of the field they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down second down coming up this offense is not letting up guys they've got a lead here late and they are still taking shots looking for explosive plays this defense just has not had an answer here all game long and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one the defense finally makes the monarchs want to pick up the tempo [Applause] used the play fake now to throw and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 you can just see the excitement this defense has every play they're almost wishing this quarterback drops back to throw because they know they're going to get home to him that's the sixth time they've registered a sack that sack gets this offense behind the chains it's second down reads it fires complete and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out and the monarchs have it with a first and 10 he'll pull it on the read the offense coughs it up and they were on the move defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery man I I can't do that here right I got the football I got the lead the clock is my friend and now I cough it up offense have to understand the situation have to understand I got to get to the ground I can make sure I don't fight for extra yards I make sure I don't fumble costly fumble East Carol has it back and the purple pirate offense will go to work looking for room it's Harris good blocking up front great job following it he's got six to the [Applause] 18 got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four [Applause] they'll give it to the back makes one man miss tackled after picking up the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs wide receiver coming across in motion looking to move it through the air grabed behind the line it's right and you could tell they set up the screen action but how about the ability to adjust right I see what the defense is giving me you going to leave that open okay I'm going to take it right now leaves it with the running back the Pirates pick up the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of [Applause] downs from the gun the running back has it still on his feet at the 45 he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense the fake now to throw a strike downfield defense needs to regroup as he gets it down to the 26 and on that last play he's now over 400 yard passing well Reese if you're going to throw for over 400 bills you got to spread the praise around up front they've done an outstanding job protecting this quarterback and his receivers have been winning oneon-one and the Pirates will hustle to the line they'll throw it on first down got it on the Run touchdown pirates that is the ultimate grab and go for the score this is a running back who is versatile and his catching ability really helps this offense out vertically down the field and you saw it on that play on the wheel route that wasn't just a screen or a swing they got him faking going to the flat turning up the sideline for a touchdown he'll try to tack on one more and no problem on that extra point and we have a tie ball game here in the fourth we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away on the run from inside his zone five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field they'll come out on this drive and let it rip and that'll be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter on first down but second Down's coming up couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again fires to the big fella that's a really good tackle there giving up some size and still making the play if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum throws for the tight end and this is going to be incomplete on third the monarchs will bring the punt team onto the field this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fair catch just inside the 40 he leaves it with his back continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 got eight on first down now looking at second and [Applause] two off the play fake catch in the middle it's right really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down and this offense throwing the ball has just been up and down the field all game long they're now approaching 450 yards passing on the day they'll snap it from the 39 first and 10 [Applause] Garcia wants to throw he makes the catch close to the sticks but he'll be a little short of the first down he's just winning that match up in the slot every time and when you put him in the slot re's closer to the quarterback it's an easier throw we can run in we can run out and really take advantage of his versatility of the guy that slot position little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second down On The Run it's Harris makes the tackle at the 27 it's a pick up of five and enough for the first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs and second down for this offense the give to the back he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down the Pirates come to the line with a fresh set of downs they're going to go right back to him on first down works his way ahead for about three it's down at the eight operating in the Red Zone here on second down from the shotgun the inside give forges ahead for one to the8 yd line third and long and they can get the first down without scoring a touchdown from the gun wants to pass into the end zone can't make the grab as he was looking for his man right at the goal line so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot absolutely perfect and now they've taken the lead here in the final two minutes here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field they'll throw it on first down got his man in the middle he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down he's got tripped right a single receiver to the left second and short he finds a soft spot in the middle the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious they are dialed in on this drive a couple of Chunk plays and now they'll snap it on first down and he dropped it it looked for all the world like that would be a catch and he just got too excited they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 the aerial assault continues he's got an open man and how about that what the doctor always ordered an explosive play to the [Applause] 40 he's going to pass looking left makes the grab and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains you know the defense they just haven't been able to find an answer for this guy throughout the course of the game obviously he's got two touchdowns picks up the first down there they've tried doubling him they've tried man coverage Zone coverage nothing working on defense they can't stop [Applause] them Wilson will throw wide down field defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal at the six calling a timeout here you have to avoid making a mistake in this situation he'll do it himself he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming touchdown oh dominion and they've got the lead in the final minute man this game has been incredible to watch and the offense comes through late in the game takes the lead what a clutch drive by this offense now I'm looking at you defense we got the lead late in the game I need you to go put this thing on ice and win it for lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth now that they have the lead this kickoff unit has to stay in their Lane create some field position and hand it over to the defense he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 East Carolina sending the offense back to work they're going to throw it to start the drive working that left side quick timeout called by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible they've got to move quickly here still a chance but they've got to the ball down the field wants to throw on first down complete to the right he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go the officials throw the flag but the offense won't need it they'll decline that and keep the big play gar to pass he's going to let one fly down the middle he just put this game away if you've been able to hold on to that one instead it's second down he's looking to throw can't make the catch and it'll be third down he had that thing and just lost his concentration from the gun wants to pass throws to the wide out makes a connection timeout call by the offense 24 seconds left on the clock and the Pirates getting set on First and 10 he's looking to throw it quick completion on the out great job in this
